  1. If the metals are more useful for seeing the future and are already available, why did Mraize work so hard to get the bond in the first place? Certainly not for the healing abilities
  2. I am wondering what would happen if a spren were to become a vessel for a shard. More specifically, what happens if the spren's variety contradicts the Intent of the shard (ex. an honorspren holding Odium or cultivationspren holding Ruin)? Would the conflict destroy the vessel?
  3. haha, well, maybe if you don't have Baron Harkonnen as your ancestor, you would be ok
  4. We learn in The Rhythm of War that Mraize approached Sja-anat (through Shallan) to send to him a corrupted/enlightened mistspren to bond. Fortunately, Tumi (the spren) chose Rlain instead and Mraize is probably not able to see the future yet (yay!). It would be rather terrifying if the Ghostbloods had access to oracular powers. What do you think happened between Tumi and Mraize? Did the spren consider him personally not worthy or did it turn out to be mechanically impossible for someone of his decent?
  5. I was wondering the same. Technically, in the Sunlit Man, we see that the Torment gets stronger over time, so perhaps Rock is still capable to inflict harm at the stage when he kills Amaram, i.e. not lock up yet?
  6. I think you are right and I just got confused. I remember reading somewhere that in addition to the description you gave, Frost was also a shard. Now I can't find the reference anywhere. So thank you for the clarification!
  7. Frost is a shard though, so I guess he should be excluded from the consideration
  8. That is what I thought initially too, but there is a quote by Teft in chapter 41 of Oathbringer: So I guess, other orders of radiants, even budding ones can feel the darkness.
  9. Haha, I believe Brandofandonitis should be officially classified as a pandemic at this point by the WHO
  10. Fun! I wish there was a scene like that where all our favorite Cosmere characters come together to fight a common threat. For one, I would like to see if Wayne and The Lopen would get along nicely
  11. @Treamayne Thank you, this is awesome!
  12. I love the books and read them all with excitement. Yet, upon rereading I find myself skipping Venli's chapters most often. She plays an important role in the development of the story but feels rather one-sided to me (more so in the earlier books than the later).
  13. In Chapter 29 of Oathbringer, Shallan and Renarin agree that Dalinar doesn't seem to be able tp feel the wrongness. Can you please refer me to the moments where Adolin and Kaladin "sense" it?
  14. You are right, of course, that Khriss is like a walking Cosmere encyclopedia, but she is not an active participants of the Stormlight events. Her involvement is limited to the observation and the recoding of history (and maps/sketches by Nazh), while Hoid frantically tries to direct the worlds in a certain direction. He reappears throughout the story to remind of the larger scale behind the scenes and nudge the characters just the right (though only known to him) way. As for Jasnah's incompetence, no matter how little Hoid shares with her, it still makes her more knowledgable than other main characters. For example, he describes Rayse's personality to her, justifies the terms of the contract of contest of champions as well as admits to her that he had once refused the power of shards. It is unlikely he would have that kind of conversation with anyone else, and so I find it interesting to watch.
  15. I found their relationship very refreshing. It was new to see either of them to have personal aspirations as opposed to the ambitious goal of saving Roshar/Cosmere, which defines the two of them more than any other characters in the series. Both dedicate their lives to the greater good of humankind: Jasnah through her research and position of a queen and radiant, Wit - through his worldhopping and emotional and tactical support. They focus on tasks larger than life and focus on hem so completely, that the reader and people around them forget they are human. It was great to finally see them as such! Moreover, I think their conversations add another layer of complexity to the plot. They know more about the Cosmere-wide events than anyone else (Ghostbloods excluded), and provide a different larger-picture prospective (eg. we have hints about the Sleepless and the Aharietiam from their comments). Looking forward to seeing more of them together
  16. "Now comes the storm, but you'll be warm, the wind will rock your basket. The crystals fine... will glow sublime... And with a song... you'll sleep... my baby dear" - Shallan singing the lullaby to her dying father as he is watching her kill him is just heart-wrenching.
  17. Hello, can someone explain why only Shallan and Renarin out of all radiants could sense Re-Shepir's presence at the Urithiru tower?
  18. I read and enjoyed it, thank you! I think the shorter version is my favorite of the two (not sure if it is because I read it first or because it had mink kits), but I loved both. P.S. hurray to killing Vyre right after the Oathbringer though
  19. When you call your daily gym routine a "morning kata"
  20. Well, whoever it will be, I just hope we will get to have the warm and fuzzy feeling on behalf of Kaladin sometime in SA 5.
  21. I think it would be nice if because of the Ishar's experiments with bringing spren to the physical realm, Syl sound become corporeal. She would become very emotionally mature if Kaladin swears the fifth ideal, and could potentially be able to love him as a woman. I think it would be a beautiful conclusion to their bond. (but then, there are a lot of ifs in this scenario). P.S interesting note about he girl in Stormfather's dream. I didn't consider that before.
  22. Thanks! I would appreciate it
  23. HI Robin, thank you for the recommendation. I have read Terry Pratchett's work before and enjoyed his books a lot. I have never heard of Lois McMaster Bujold,s so thank you so much for the reference!
  24. Hello, I am fairly new to the 17th shard, but I have to say... WOW! It is wonderful to find an entire platform dedicated to Brandon's work. I have read every series and standalone works, except for Alcatraz so far. It has been a blast! Now that I have almost read everything by Brandon, I have a question for you. What do you do between the book releases? I am a sworn bookworm, but recently can't seem to find another author that would hook me in a similar way. Any recommendations to pass the time until we get to Brandon's next published works? Thank you!
