  1. Calev thought through the situation. Those serpents...were made of ice. They weren't biological...so the Makers didn't create them. And they could talk...the Monstrosities never do that. It wasn't my fault. This time, that assurance did little good. Calev had barely known Elan 1; he'd only briefly interacted with him on the train. But a death hurt. It hurt too much. Even after so much, it still hurt as much as that day, years ago... And if Vena was gone too, then...
  2. @Ravenclawjedi42 Technically counts. And now I take my leave. EDIT: Facepalm. You were the one who made this thread. This is really embarrassing. How did I miss that. Now I really take my leave, but a lot more awkwardly.
  3. The sandwich vanishes and appears in a far away hole.
  4. Frowning, Calev dismissed his rifle. Where is Vena? he thought, a sense of wrongness growing as he looked around. Everyone seemed to be okay... At least, those that were still there.
  5. Calev blinked. Nevermind, then.
  6. Calev watched in horror as Elan 1 was devoured. Damn...what am I supposed to do here, if they're invulnerable to physical weapons? He started draining his Starlight, strength and energy driving away the cold. He felt strong, alert. But what can I do? Thinking of nothing else, he summoned a rifle and fired a series of powerful shots through the heads of several of the serpents. You'd better not ignore me this time.
  7. Calev walked silently for a few more moments. "I don't want to be alone," he said, "But I don't want to hurt people."
  8. "I have no doubt of that," Calev said, remembering the two that stood against the dark figure. "But those good people often suffer so, so much." He looked down, choking up slightly. "Sorry. Bad memories."
  9. "Yeah...or maybe it's that people are the same, deep down. No matter where you go." But is that a good or a bad thing? part of him asked. Good, right? If beauty could be found in all places, that meant it could be found in all people... Yet the memory of that figure in a dark robe, grinning wickedly as darkness wreathed his blade.... He shuddered.
  10. I didn't look closely at your PFP until now but it's awesome.

    I love it.

It takes another layer of meaning if you think of the faces behind those two spirits.

  11. TMM Calev only nodded. "No...it makes sense." He sighed, his breath forming a mist in front of him. He turned his gaze towards the mountains. "Kind of like my old homeworld, actually," he said softly.
  12. "Hm." Calev said, falling into silence. He didn't really know what to say. He thought for a moment, then said, "Eddie...can you tell me what this world is like?"
  13. Okay.

    I need a senior quote.

And the tradition at my science focus program is for the seniors to have goofy quotes.

    I want a Hoid quote.

Find me a goofy Hoid quote that you think would also fit The Bookwyrm.

    Go.

    Spoiler

    My backup is:

    "Oh." - [Firstname Lastname]

  14. Foot of the Moving Mountains "Can I ask who? And why?" @The Wandering Wizard @Being of Cacophony @Edema Rue
  15. Calev nodded in agreement, then fell silent for a moment. "So," he said eventually, "There are people trying to kill you?"
  16. "I mean, you pulled me into the train when I was running for my life. And I tried to save you from that whatever-it-was. Does that count as having met?"
  17. Calev trudged through the snow near the back of the group, gazing up at the mountains. Right now, they seemed still, their rocky peaks standing like sentinels over the landscape, stark against the cold blue sky. But based on some of the geology near the ends of the range, he assumed they did move from time to time...hopefully they wouldn't start while they were travelling through. He knew very little about them, only enough to know that the monstrosities of the Makers would probably steer clear, which was why he was heading this way. As soon as I figure out how to get enough Starlight to Jump, I can leave this planet. Run a little farther. Maybe the next world is the one where I'll find her... Though there was a part of him that protested that thought. He looked ahead, towards the group of...well, they were still basically strangers. Then why'd you go try to save on of their lives? He asked himself. Well, that was easy. You didn't just leave someone to die, stranger or not. Being a Lightwielder had taught him that much. He sighed. Perhaps he was going to spend more time on this world than he thought... @The Wandering Wizard @Edema Rue @Rallohir @The Aspiring Archivist @Experience @Anyone else
  18. Calev sighed. "It's...hard to describe. Just a very specific form of magical energy radiated by certain celestial bodies, namely stars. Us Lightwielders can absorb it just by being in it's presence."
  19. "I mean...it's possible. Do you know where you'd start?"
  20. "Hm...." Calev said, studying the glowing light that encased Aster's hands. "I think it's different than what I do. Similar...but different. You can never see the internal effects of my powers."
  21. "I don't think I can do that," Calev said. "What does it do?"
