  1. @Emeralis00: You're mistaking the Oathpact for the ideals of the Knights Radiant. The Oathpact is only referenced in the prelude in the conversation between the Heralds. So far as we know, it has nothing to do with the Knights Radiant. The Knights Radiant may have based their ideals on the Oathpact, or something else entirely. We just don't know. However, the ideals of the Knights Radiant and the Oathpact are not one and the same.
  2. I'm game to meet up with people, though I'd have to go to classes during the day. But I'd come wait in line before eight with all of you, and get numbers so we're all relatively close together in line and can talk. Who's actually planning on being there? And what obscenely early time would you all want me to show up?
  3. a) You would have to have SO many spheres for this to work, even with them constantly recharging. Like covering like a decent portion of the planet. You would have to be standing outside in the middle of a frikking highstorm in order to access the spheres while they recharge. I just don't see getting the amount of Stormlight necessary to coat a large portion of the planet in it. The theory itself is really cool, but I can't see a way for it to work.
  4. Awesome. I'll get to work shortening them so they don't suck. Play-by-play is a good word to describe what they are right now.
  5. Oh, I know the writing sucks in a large number of those. I fully intend to go on an editing spree to fix them up so that they sound like semi-decent writing. What I'm mostly wondering is if you lose too much detail in the second, or if it's still ok for our purposes. If you guys feel like that's enough detail for a summary, I'll trim them all down to that length, as I prefer conciseness. But if there needs to be more than that, I'll work on getting a decent length that doesn't sound like the craptastic book-summary hybrid Munin mentioned that it sounds like now.
  6. Apparently not, as no one has replied yet. Also, since the exclamation point makes that sentence a really bad fragment, we're going to pretend it wasn't there. was caused by
  7. So I've done several of these in the last couple of days, and now I'm wondering - Do you guys think that the summaries I've already done are too detailed? Granted, there's a lot of ground to cover, but if I keep adding summaries this size, that page is going to be huge. A lot of the material I've been putting in really isn't strictly necessary to understand the story, too. I've just been going through and summarizing everything that happens, not necessarily what moves the plot along. For example, the current version of chapter 1:
  8. Because there are other Shards on Sel, and the Almighty is plenty busy with Roshar. Odium has direct reason to want to visit Sel, namely killing Aona and Skai. The Almighty has no such motivation, since he's not planning on killing any other Shards. I don't see why he'd randomly jaunt off to another Shardworld that he has no standing interest in.
  9. It would appear so, since this apparently ended on the 30th.
  10. Well he couldn't. So he obviously got some from somewhere. But that makes Szeth all the more interesting as a character. I wonder if his use of Stormlight is considered profane by the Shin. I also have to wonder if that doesn't have something to do with him being Truthless. EDIT: And Munin beat me to it. But I essentially am meaning the same thing. Though I also think that the Shin do see some storms - they're just exceedingly rare.
  11. The original post about the contest mentions that you have to send them the location of your link for them to enter it. So as awesome as this is....
  12. That could possibly go a long way toward explaining why the Shin consider the Stormlight to be sacred, though. If they never get storms, Stormlight is going to be hard to come by.
  13. Probably the best Way of Kings Fan Art I've ever seen. Lots of competition there, too.
  14. Which also explains the huge amounts of time, as most of them count the time if you're active within fifteen minutes or so.
  15. So this could be completely insignificant, but I just noticed something in my reread. Sound kind of like a certain group of symbols on the inside cover of a certain book to anyone else? Which is apparently related to the Radiants, as per the interview that finally went up..... Or possibly it could be the ones on the back. That said, it just sounds so much like it, I had to post and see what you guys thought.
  16. What do you guys do? Just sit there and refresh pages all the time? In all seriousness, I've been on here every day for the last several weeks, posting when I see a topic that I have something to say on, which is fairly frequently. I have 74 posts and 14 hours online. And I've been here almost since the beginning of the site, in some form or another. Though I did just lurk for a while, granted. And I feel like I'm getting on pretty regularly. I bow in deference to Eerongal's lurking power. And I refuse to bow to Chaos' posting power, mostly because I can't figure out where he's making so many posts at...
  17. I wouldn't worry too much about waiting in line for forever and a day. I doubt there will be too many more people there than there were for the way of kings release. If you want a number in the top fifty, be there early the morning of and you'll probably be ok. If you want a really low number, that's gonna be a problem. Several days in advance would be a good bet. I got my ticket for Way of Kings at 6 at night and I got #96. After the initial rush, they don't have all that many people until later in the day. As to why they chose to put the release over halloween, um.... nothing else big was published that week? They thought it was a good day? It's the first Tuesday in November? I really got nothing here.
