This is an idea I jokingly came up during Brandon's Steelheart tour, but the more events I read about, the more I realize that I should probably at least consider it seriously. In essence, I thought about printing (or writing) a ton of questions (maybe by making sure the Ultimate List of Questions is up to date and then just copying stuff from there) on something like flash cards, and bringing them with me to signings. At the beginning of the signing / personalization part of the event (since pretty much every signing I know of involves at least a general Q&A and a signing "phase") I would, with Brandon's consent, put those on the table with a sign like "Don't have a question? Just pick one!" (and maybe some 17S promo text and/or something about helping the fan community), and just let all the people who don't have a question ask something we could use around here. To avoid people accidentally spoiling a book for themselves, while still allowing some freedom of choice, I think that I should: Maybe have some way of allowing the inquirers to choose whether they want a basic (e.g. "what inspired you to make this character the (s)he is?") or more advanced / specific questions. Split the questions into categories - one category per book to start with Add a category for each finished series Add a category for cosmere questions - I'd probably throw Hoid in here too, though he has every right to be a category of its own Add a category about writing Add a category about misc questions Before you comment, let me say that this feels vaguely... callous to me, but I can't figure out why. I would be doing some good here, expanding the knowledge base we have, but it still feels like I would be doing something wrong. It's not like I am robbing people of their right to ask a question. I guess I am a little worried that it looks like I would be using Brandon for his insight, but it's not like all those people couldn't have come to this site and/or came up with the questions on their own. It's effectively the same as doing a promo campaign for the 17S and strongly encouraging people to become passionate about the books, learn more, and ask questions. But it still feels kind of wrong. So I wanted to get some input from all of you - including Peter. I still have a couple of weeks until the Chicago signing, so I am not in a terribly rush, but it would be nice to either polish up the idea a little and give it a shot, or shoot it down so I can rest. I will confess, the first option sounds much more appealing to me though...

Wait I will then.

Is this safe to read for people who are not done with Words of Radiance? (Also, @Talenelat, you should update your first post to include link - and hopefully credit - to the transcript)

A little busy right now, but you can always look at the Events, Signings, and Stalkings forum for things like that. It's usually up to each member / user / attendee to record and transcribe the event in question, so we don't have everything all the time, but this would be my first stop.

This is easier if you provide this hypothetical wallpaper creator with either a device model (e.g. Samsung Galaxy S4 or iPhone 5S) or target resolution (e.g. 640x480 px or 320 DPI) - which one of those are more comfortable with. Probably the easiest way is to look up your phone's resolution and just ask for that. It's not a perfect solution, but it will usually work.

Splintercast Reads WoR (WoR spoilers)
Argent replied to FeatherWriter's topic in 17th Shard Discussion
I'll finish the book before I indulge in... other things (the time I would spend listening to this would be better spent reading the book, at least the first time around), but I can help you with your URL woes! Pretty Link to Google- 39 replies

@Satsuoni, where is this answer coming from? Because if it's from the book itself (which I am about halfway done with, so I can't tell), you really should specify that it's a Words of Radiance spoiler.
-
Meh. Your loss. Lopen would've been a far better choice ... though I imagine Thanksgiving dinners might be a problem...
-
Eh, since this is a Words of Radiance tour, spoilery questions about this book are frowned upon. He won't answer any of those in the general Q&A, and asking them when you go for signing / personalization runs the risk of spoiling the book for somebody behind you in the line. Let's all be careful about those things (for example, by writing the questions down and asking for a short written response?)
-
What about the question(s) you yourself asked? Anything interesting and free of WoR spoilers there?
-
Man, you and @karaokeang need to figure something out with those avatars. Or things will get very confusing very quickly.

I should point out, this is a pretty weak Ideal. Imagine if Kaladin's Immortal Words were "I will protect those who cannot protect themselves. [but] I might change this some day." Lotsa wiggle room.

Heh, I saw the page and wondered whether it will remain untranslated for more than a day.

The whole thing about the One made me think of Adonalsium, really. As if Ym's people are actually different from the other races of Roshar, and Roshar is the Fourth Land. Given how unlikely this sounds, it's a theory I won't grasp too tightly.

NOTE: This piece of information is independent of the content of Words of Radiance, so it is spoiler-free! As a part of my personalization request for my Words of Radiance preorder from Weller Books, I asked Brandon to give me an answer the following (paraphrased) question: Of course Brandon figured out a way to weasel out of a direct response, but he still offered me some insight into the nature of the Spiritual Realm (photo will come later): So there you have it, folks. The Spiritual Realm is, at least in some way, Heaven.

Well, I now know why the chapter was not released...

I love how the forums just died around the time the eBook was released

Aha! I so called it when I said that not all Ideals will be of the form "I will X those who Y."

Words of Radiance Release Livestream
Argent commented on Chaos's article in Events, Signings, & Giveaways
That person who set up a tent in front of the bookstore on Friday - they made me feel like a fake fan for not flying there and buying a house by the doors or something... -
I am actually getting better and better at glancing at a reply and deciding whether it's meant for me. It was easy when DiamondMind was quoting me, because I could kind of let my eyes lose focus and look for a quote after one of my replies - and then quickly check whether I am the author. But you and Feather and making it trickier by not only addressing me directly, but in Feather's case also hiding my name in the middle of the reply. I might start Ctrl+Fing the page for my name On a more serious note, it wouldn't be too bad even if I stumbled over a heavy spoiler, as long as it's from Chapter 7. I feel that it's kind of okay for me to know what happens, because I've already read the previous and the next few chapters. And I am a few hours, a sleep, and a quick drive away from actually having the book, so I'll probably survive. But ultimately, I wouldn't live up to my new forum rank if I didn't do things like this

Error (19:23 Central Time) EDIT: I swear, I am not constantly refreshing the New Content page... -
Nope, Barnes & Noble is unwilling - ONCE AGAIN! - to break the law for me and sell me the book 5 minutes before closing time today. Little do they know that joke's on them. They are the ones who will have to buy new windows and clean up pieces of broken glass from the floor.

You had the name wrong. I fixed it for you.

I rest my case. Point in case. Q.E.D. Abd si ib,,,* * This means "And so on..." in the language of my right hand being one key to the left. Also, why, yes, I am typing more stuff in a vain attempt to kill a small fraction of the next 13 hours, after which the hardcover copy of Words of Radiance will be safely in my grasp. Stalling, I believe, is the term. Mmhmm.
