For clarification about the WOR leatherbound campaignis Backerkit basically Kickstarter? Brandon’s announcement and post are specifically stating the Words of Radiance anniversary launch is “entirely on BackerKit”.  For those of us who aren’t that Kickstarter/Backerkit savvy, is there a distinction we need to be aware of?

Short answer: they are different, but they do the same thing.

Slightly longer answer: for a long time BackerKit was just a company that helped Kickstarter projects with fulfillment, shipment, and things like that. Recently they launched their own crowdfunding platform that functions a lot like Kickstarter, or any other crowdfunding platform - there's a goal, different tiers of support, stretch goals, etc. So some projects have started using that instead of Kickstarter (I think KS got involved with NFTs at one point? there was something shady there). Practically speaking, at most you'll need to register a different account.

Here's the preview for Venli: https://cosmere.es/stormlight-premium-miniatures-venli-english/

They've also revealed there that the four larger, pre-painted miniatures will be Windrunner Kaladin, Elsecaller Jasnah, Skybreaker Szeth, and Shardbearer Adolin (you can see them all at the bottom of the page)

    There's also Dalinar's miniature: https://www.dicebreaker.com/topics/the-stormlight-archive/news/stormlight-archive-dalinar-kholin-miniature

As described in this post on Reddit, we'll get both Blackthorn Dalinar and Bondsmith Dalinar, the one shown is presumably Blackthorn

Also, some news from this post:

    • Official preview will be shown on Friday on r/Stormlight_Archive
    • There will be a special 11-pack "Starter Set" of official Stormlight paints (including Kholin Blue to Carapace Red) available on The Army Painter
    • Kenny Boucher (Next Level Painting) will start painting some of the miniatures on his Youtube channel on Friday

Great job keeping up with the news (and keeping others up as well)!

I'm not sure if the artist intended it to look like a rainbow version of the Angel of Death from the Prince of Egypt with some mildly rapey vibes going on with Vivenna's but I really approve.

Unfortunately there aren't many ways to portrait a ribbon-like Breath leaving one person's mouth and entering another's without invoking certain imagery, especially if the recipient doesn't want it. I blame Brandon here. I can assure you rapey vibes never entered the conversion.

@Argent, are we able to ask these artists questions about what they were thinking on the forums or is that a Patreon only thing? I'd really love to hear their answers.

It's a neither thing, actually, most of the artists we work with don't hang out on the forums, and they certainly don't hold AMAs on our Patreon. Your best way of reaching out to them is through their socials and (occasionally, rarely) our Discord server where some of them hang out. I encourage all of them to post these commissions themselves, so you can always leave a comment there.

There's Gold (on the Allomantic table), which lets you see your own past. Then there's Malatium (not on the Allomantic table), an alloy of Gold, that lets you see someone else's past. Gold Mistings can also burn Malatium, because the latter is an alloy of the first.

Allomancy doesn't work like that, unfortunately. Gold and malatium Mistings are distinct in the same way steel and iron Mistings are. We are trying to make the idea that atium can be burned by anyone, just like lerasium can (an idea Brandon seems to be toying with), work.

I can see that the Arcanum logo looks like an 'A' and the Coppermind logo represents an allomantic metal, but what is the 17th Shard logo supposed to resemble?

It's more subtle, just generally evoking both the old logo's shape, and the idea of something being broken off.

  6. Heh, having a marketing/SEO team (or any kind of team really), or hiring even a single person is probably going to be out of the picture for years to come, at best. We try to present ourselves professionally, but we are, at the end of the day, just a bunch of volunteers.

Tapping the community for some kind of organized effort might be a good idea though. We'd have to understand a little better what kind of needs visually impaired people have, and how to best aid them with alt text (because I wouldn't even know where to start - though that Hubspot page does look like a good resource). So we'll keep this in mind :)

When the websites get updated, will there be any time/energy devoted to adding more alt text and image descriptions?

This is something I personally know very little about, but it's been lowkey on my radar of things I think we could be doing better. It's not something we specifically are planning to do, but I agree that we should, and it's mostly a matter of doing it well (and wrangling the sites' software suites into cooperating).

So if this is something you know something about, I would value your thoughts, and any resources that might be useful to us in the future.

That bit where @Argent pauses to reflect on the types of chemical bonds, covalent and ionic, and then goes on to speak of forming aonic bonds...I genuinely could not tell if that was intentional or not, but it made me smile, either way. So thanks for making me smile!

    It wasn't, but that's funny :D

Yikes. So, this was my first time to listen to the podcast. I’ve read all of the Stormlight books (and nearly every other Sanderson book) and thought I was pretty knowledgeable about the Cosmere, but you guys make me feel like I’ve never even read the books! You guys go really deep. You were talking about things and even characters that I didn’t even remember from the books. Keep it up, though. I just need to catch up I guess.

Heh, a lot of us have been in this for a decade and more. I get that it feels kind of crummy to finish all these books and still feel like you are behind, and I hope we'll be able to do a few episodes geared specifically towards people in your position - people who just want to catch up without spending years of reading wiki pages, WoBs, and forum threads. Just... not sure when we'll get to those.
