Midnight essence and midnight aether.
Tamriel Wolfsbaine replied to Tamriel Wolfsbaine's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think this all helps. At first thought my mind for a midnight aetherbound was just a pet class. Now I am picturing more of a Symbiote like Venom or something. Honestly one of the cooler things I have cooked up in my mind. The fact that it can create claws capable of damaging shardplate is super interesting. I assume if it can create something hard enough to damage plate and it is considered highly invested it could likely resist a blade as well to an extent. Only big turn off from the coppermind is that it smells putrid? Is that just the roshar version or is it described that way in other works where it exists? -
Honestly I have long thought about this interaction with groups of enemies all trying to get in to you at the same time. Whether it be a group of thugs charging you or if you were to stand ground in the front lines of some large scale melee conflict this could be useful. Just imagine charging against an enemy and suddenly your buddy who was in front of you is standing still. How do you get massive pileups on freeways? Same thing here! And with both types of bubbles you could appear to be at the same exact speed as the person inside of it. Its not until you go through the first one that you would know something is off. By then its too late. Like a massive glue trap. Also note and make use of the nausea and jolt of going through time bubbles. In the MAG it specifies you lose a beat (lose a turn). I think getting disoriented by a bubble all while getting slammed into by your allies from behind and then seeing your enemies moving like blurrs in front of you would do it. Part of the name Pulser I think comes from the idea of this trick. You could easily throw up a cadmium bubble let the first group of enemies hit it and cause the wreck only to drop the cadmium bubble step back 10 feet in your own bendalloy bubble and throw up another cadmium bubble. Pulsing out waves of disorienting time bubbles that make for a near impassable barrier. Add in allomantic grenades and you could even play beyond that. Having multiple multiple bubbles. You could create a bigger bendalloy bubble and then yourself inside of it in a smaller one dilating the already dilated time. The biggest issue you are going to run into with all of this is that your metal reserves are going to a bit whacky to balance.

How hard and sharp can midnight essence get? When the crimes were being copied in Oathbringer was the essence gathering up weapons to use or did it create them? Or I am just misremembering it all and the question simply makes no sense. I'm a fan of summoning weapons or creating them from the Aethers and curious how well Midnight essence could form weapons or defenses. Roseite I figure is pretty straight forward but I really like the idea of being able to experience and see through the creations of midnight essence. When Twinsoul grew the roseite under the door I feel like I remember silajana explaining what was on the other side. He couldn't see and experience through roseite right? But Midnight essence does allow for that right?

Feruchemy/Hemalurgy and Forgery
Tamriel Wolfsbaine replied to aetherbound's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Okay. But what about soulcasting? If a metalmind can be soulcast to disapear could it be soulcast to a new type of metal and use that attribute? I guess if you could access stormlight you could probably just skip it and convert it into whatever attribute you needed when you needed it. -
Stone and moving joints
Tamriel Wolfsbaine replied to Tamriel Wolfsbaine's topic in Cosmere Discussion
So rad. If this same idea crossed over to Aethers you could rock a suit of armor that allows full range of motion while having no visible gaps. Obviously it is still not shardplate or anything in terms of protection but with potential compounding hacks in the future this could be super dope (Bendalloy compounding for the win... heck even just a metalmind with months worth of water at once). I can see a dude just spending a day at the drinking fountain to carry around a ring sized reserve of water worth hundreds of camelbaks. Not to mention we already have one person who has hacked Stormlight enough to use it to maintain themselves... whos to say Aetherbound couldnt hack and breath in unkeyed stormlight and feed it the way Twinsoul used the unkeyed dor? -
Feruchemy/Hemalurgy and Forgery

So we know that zinc and steel are both hard to store into. Also gold seems quite uncomfortable to store into... But if you had large iron metalminds and could forge them into steel, zinc or gold and then tap those for physical / mental speed and health that would be huge. You could store nearly all of your weight nearly all the time if you just couch potato it and the drawbacks would be so minor. Then forge yourself to be able to use zinc / gold / steel and suddenly you have full metalminds of the more useful metals. That is pretty genius actually. We see with Wax how quickly Iron can be filled with little thought and consequence vs Wayne. My question would be... does a full iron metalmind act the same as a full gold metalmind once forged? A goldmind could take months of feeling like garbage to fill up where as an ironmetalmind could be filled in a matter of days just because it is far easier to store your weight than it is to endure a bad enough illness to really make a dent. -
Twinsoul was able to grow a massive roseite golem and reside inside of it as a huge suit of armor and wielding a massive hammer. I am curious what people think the limits of these sorts of constructs are? How fast could that a roseite mechsuit move? If an Aetherbound had the investiture or water stores for it could they grow roseite steed to match the speed of travel a horse would grant? What would be the limits of this? Could a Roseite bird or dragon fly? There was just such a difference going from making stationary roseite objects that increase quality of life and then making a moving suit carrying not only the Aetherbound and itself but also a large mace. Do you think these effects of roseite would be tied to the users physical abilities? Roseite works as the Aetherbound could without it? If it is limited to what the person inside would be able to do what would happen if a pewter arm was burning pewter while Aetherbinding something like that? Or a feruchemist? We already know Feruchemical steel would let you burn metals faster and compress the benefits into something smaller. Would an Feruchemical steel user be able to cause the Roseite suit or a Roseite steed to move quicker? Would Feruchemical iron allow it to be lighter? How much of a connection does an Aetherbound actually have to the Aether they are making? Obviously it is connected to them so long as they are using it otherwise it wouldnt fall apart so easily when they break that connection.

Okay, I know we have seen this is a working thing and I know that investiture is able to make it work but I am trying to picture it in my mind. Were Kalads phantoms solid stone and the investiture allowed it to bend? Or were they made of many different stone pieces set upon eachother like our bones are with joints? I have seen WoBs that indicate a body turned to stone could be awakened and brought back lifeless. But what of those joints? Will the investiture just turn the stone bendy enough to move? What of Roseite Aether? I assume Twinsoul's Golem was able to move, in the art it depicts him sitting in the center and controlling it with what I can only assume is through his mind and intent. Do you think that Roseite must be grown with many pieces that can move within eachother or do you think it can simply flex when and where it is needed by the Aetherbound growing it?

Best Twinborn Powerset for a detective
Tamriel Wolfsbaine replied to Stormtide_Leviathan's topic in Mistborn
Anything that mashes up systems sounds like a win. Anyone introduced an F-bendalloy Aetherbound? My mind has been fairly obsessed with that combo for a while now... especially if it is decided that the correct investiture fields are in play for Aethers to stick around a bit. -
Thematically appropriate Radiant Twinborn Combinations
Tamriel Wolfsbaine replied to Hatman's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I feel like A-pewter shouldn't be ignored for edgedancers. They are described as being graceful and I remember Vin feeling the same on pewter. This isn't just thematically based but it would also benefit an edge dancer so well also with the increased proprioception and balance. I don't know how I could fit this thematically with it but I would love to see a twinborn A pewter / F iron on either of the abrasion orders. If they really skate around the balance and conservation of momentum could do a ton. I think the synergy of the two would quite possibly make the most maneuverable non flyer in the cosmere. Dancing and skating around manipulating weight to make their trajectory nearly impossible to estimate. But how do you make the pewter / iron twinborn thematic outside of both powers being used and described as allowing their users to be nimble and graceful? -
Exactly. As well as I enjoy reading the Wax and Wayne dynamic... I think I would have preferred a series devoted to Ham and Breeze haha. They didn't get enough screen time.

Kandra and Sustenance.
Tamriel Wolfsbaine replied to Tamriel Wolfsbaine's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Thanks for these its been a while since I visited this book. For some reason I thought Kandra only lived off of meat and eating anything else was just plain gross. -
Ah okay. This paints a better picture in my head and I am going to go with it given the comparisons and theories that it may actually be more related to aethers. So your stable rate is how fast the cells replenish the water. This makes me think that F bendalloy would probably help well and that the hydration is from the cells not just the water of the body. The excess electrolytes are likely taken care of via the magic or they are used up at the same time as the water. I feel like healing in the cosmere would likely fix the dehydration from killing you while still not fixing the hydration issue itself. Like being strangled... you are alive and living but until you breath the gold would have to be used constantly. That does leave me curious if you were to consume a large amount of water and then used some healing as a severely dehydrated person... would the gold speed up the whole osmosis process with the available water and make it available for more use faster? I haven't read anything on Sandmasters but please don't be shy with the spoilers. Same with Tress. I don't have the time to read more... just faster to ask the shard for the mechanics. It seems like water applied to aether spores causes an effect. Does pouring water directly onto white sand do anything or is it only through the mastery? Potentially showing a difference in spores vs aetherbound style usage.

I know I remember that Kandra are carnivores. I am curious to what end they get all of their sustenance. I assume Kandra could eat a regular diet to fit into society but what is their body actually running on? Do they require water the way other animals do? Could they die of dehydration or just starvation? Can a Kandra use any sustenance to regrow limbs or is it limited to consuming meat and bodies? I know some of this was covered in the 101 tricks started by @Trusk'our but I am curious about this specifically. If a Kandra got ahold of F bendalloy could turn all of that storage straight into more mass? Continually growing or regrowing?

Thanks for this. Yeah I was mostly concerned with hyper/hypo-kalemia or hyper/hypo-natremia. Had a patient with a midline getting potassium the other day and it through him into some whacky arrhythmias. Simple enough to swap down to a much smaller vein up stream to help dilute it before it hit the heart. But the electrolytes are spooky. Magical protection seemed the best solution and you make a good point about an old dude being an example of aetherbinding not killing you off. It sounds like a conventional camelbak with just about 3liters of storage can double or more the typical capacities of an aetherbound good to know. Come to think of it I don't think I remember Twinsoul ever even needing to drink from that. He did pretty minor things with his power and then skipped straight to purified dor for the Aetherbinding Finale.
-
I know there really isn't a great indication or answer for how much water you need to get effect X, Y, or Z. That doesn't stop me from asking opinions. Do you think the water consumed could be broken down into some form of mass conversion? We saw Twinsoul prepare to leave on the mission in TLM and he basically took a camelbak. I am curious how big you think that pack of water was? I assume he over hydrated before leaving as well as taking as much as he could carry. A big camelbak is 100oz or right around 3liters. Do you think he took a bigger pack than that? Water is also heavy and cumbersome. I am curious how much you think Twinsoul actually carried with him on that expedition? So would it be fair to gauge an Aetherbounds capabilities based on the amount of water or hydration they have available to spend? With more use does the Aetherbinding get cheaper or more expensive? And does a higher growth rate drain more hydration for the same end result than if you were to build it slowly? Example: Would Twinsoul's 3D map drain more water if he built it faster or drain less if he drained it slower? How do you think this would all work across a Bendalloy Bubble? Since you are bound to Silajana through your bud or whatever does that mean that Silajana's mind is capable of communicating at different speeds across the cosmere? She is bound to multiple practitioners so would that mean that when one practitioner is under the effects of time dilation the Aether is able to function the same regardless? Other questions I have in regard to this: Hydration and water aren't exactly the same thing as each other. Magics in the cosmere seem to cover up some scientific inconsistencies that would otherwise harm the users. I assume that when an Aetherbound uses their powers they have some sort of magical protection from the electrolyte imbalances that could happen. But could you use some extreme hydration tricks to help out? If carbs help hold water could an Aetherbound carb load a ton to help the body retain more water? Do you think that drinking more of a saline mixture would be more beneficial to an Aetherbound than to drink plain water? If you drink a mouthful of water is that immediately available or does it need to be processed slightly more than that before it becomes useful as a fuel for Aetherbinding?

Do you think it is possible to feed a pre-awakened item more intent through connection? In a way almost changing a command or having it linked to your intent like a new limb? I know that we already have seen commands for acting as hands and such but could you hack connection to the item in a way to have it entirely act as a seperate appendage hiding itself and revealing itself for specific tasks that you want based on thought vs audible command? I guess someone at 10th heightening has this advantage already but at lower hightenings with access to duralumin compounding or even bondsmith powers? Do you suppose that the 9th and 10th heightening bonuses of range and silence are based on connection in anyway?

Perfect lifeless or impossible lifeless?
Tamriel Wolfsbaine replied to Tamriel Wolfsbaine's topic in Cosmere Discussion
If you soulcast someone to stone how well would they function? Do you think it would function on one breath or require more breaths to be able to move? -
This is great to hear. I would rather not ever see a movie version of anything cosmere than to see it get destroyed to push an agenda... no matter what that agenda is... other than to entertain and be true to the books. Vin is strong. Vin is great. But Hollywood has a bad habit of ruining great strong female characters by neutering and embarrassing the male cast. I know its a controversial opinion to have but I think the worst possible thing that could ever happen to a Mistborn movie would be to make Breeze some sleezy greasy manipulative guy that noone is supposed to like. Or... if they make Ham a big himbo energy fellow. Those 2 HAVE to be gotten right or else half of her teachers will be wrecked. But they are my favorite characters in Era 1 so it makes sense that I don't want them to receive that. I mean Breeze does come off like a stuck up fellow but I can just imagine how Hollywood would treat a male character who schmoozes everyone and has the perfect power to let him get away with it even if he had the charisma of a rock. And Ham absolutely needs to be a philosopher. If he isn't they might as well not make the movie.

I don't think it needs to coil slowly. Look at how constricters catch and kill prey. They grab it and throw their body over in folds to initially bind it and then they slowly reposition those folds until it is neater and tighter. A rope with an untwisted and open end would have long fingers and could initially grab someone and then throw folds more like a constrictor. It happens in the blink of an eye. Maybe they don't have snakes in the cosmere to base the imagery off of. The braided line is smart. An awakened braided line could absolutely just cut fools in half after grabbing them for you. Eviscerate people. I have thought that some form steel wrapped cable, or aluminum if it would work, wrapped line would be great as well. The awakener version of the Iron Spider Suit instant kill would be spooky and possible with steel cable and the 9th heightening I think. Some doc ock awakened suit. But for rope constricting... I would fashion the imagery like a python striking and pulling while throwing itself over and around. Length of the rope probably doesn't have to be that long either. Have it lay couled against your arm and strike forward as you extend your arm towards the opposition grabbing them with the untwisted fingerling ends of the rope. Put sharp aluminum caps on the ends of the untwisted rope fingers and use imagery of the rope attacking eyes and noses... just these long rope tentacles of death. If that made it into the eyeslit of some plate and the aluminum tiped bits acted like drills boring into the soft tissue and targets it wouldn't be able to be healed through. Like aluminum bullets that won't let you simply heal them out. All while the body length of rope is wrapping around your arms. Fairly terrifying imagery. I love awakening.

Could Nightblood be used as a metalmind?
Tamriel Wolfsbaine replied to KelsierFortnite's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I simply meant that given Nightbloods siphoning of investiture he would likely have more space to fill into, were it possible, than he has at the current point in story. 1000 breaths isn't so much compared to the amount he has consumed since. That does lead me to another question though. Has Nightblood always dripped black smoke? In my mind it is the overabundance of investiture leaking out of him. Could he be primed to consume more of a shard than what he has if someone was able to make a way for him to stay unsheathed long enough? Like an aluminum cannister with the top opened so he can't destroy the world via gravity over time but he isn't fully contained. Allow him to offload a ton of that investiture and then hook him up to the shard as a starving sword. Or do you think he would be so hungry at that point that the first person to touch him would be drained at a rate far higher than what we see him consume while drawn now? -
Yeah strangle is a decent use of a small rope. A longer length and that rope could just crush them. This is why I am always trying to think of the limit of awakened objects. If it is limited not by breath but by the material itself then a longer piece of rope should be able to go further than just strangling. It should literally be able to wrap and crush them. A python without a head to cut off. Thinking about how my eyes bulge from just a bit of pressure in a rear naked choke makes me terrified of what would happen to a body if a 25 foot length of rope were to be commanded to crush it instead of just strangle. As it tightens pressure builds up everywhere else. Once the arms are trapped it wouldn't take too long for the rope alone to finish even Miles. Wrapped around the torso that thing would be absolutely destroying his body nonstop. Far more trauma per second than a firing squad I would think. Crushed ribs, punctured lungs, no space for the heart to even attempt a blood pressure. Shoot we can bottom out a blood pressure with too high of peep. Constricted would be easier. The amount of bleeding and intercranial pressure would be tremendous. Radiants too... although the plate is the trick there. I wonder how thick the rope would have to be to be able to constrain shardplate strength or to be able to crack plate and crush it.

Awakening and Feruchemical attributes.
Tamriel Wolfsbaine replied to Tamriel Wolfsbaine's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Medallions are terrifying enough. Now I have to think of the potential uses of shared breaths through them. The ability to take identity away from breaths is terrifying... not only as a tool or weapon but from a user perspective the idea that anyone could take them... I assume to access and make those breaths usable once you retrieve them from the medallion they would be keyed to you again. -
Could Nightblood be used as a metalmind?
Tamriel Wolfsbaine replied to KelsierFortnite's topic in Cosmere Discussion
If one was a feruchemist couldnt they store identity before storing an attribute and then it wouldn't matter? Vivennas blade is probably the best bet of this happening. Especially since they use aluminum scabbard? Store your identity while holding the scabbard and then store your speed completely bypassing any identity contamination. -
Could Nightblood be used as a metalmind?
Tamriel Wolfsbaine replied to KelsierFortnite's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I have had questions about how much investiture it takes to fully fill something and if breaths and attributes fill the same role in filling an item with investiture. I feel like I always pictured inquisitors being able to store into spikes. Which was especially useful for gold feruchemy because a gold spike is what steals it and it would double as a metalmind as well. But how full is too full? Nightblood as we see him on screen is so full he is literally leaking investiture. I don't know that he could hold any attribute. I would say it is more likely he could double as a metalmind when he was first created. Though if attributes =/= investiture in the same way that breaths do then it might be possible. I would ask if nightblood is a hard no does that exclude other awakened metal or invested metal? Could you store in a less invested sword like vivennas? Atium metalminds exist. Are feruchemists not actually filling the part of atium that is the godmetal and only the parts that are electrum? If one god metal can be filled with an attribute can they all? While we don't know the attribute it stores i assume even shards have feruchemical properties. If atium and lerasium can be used as metalminds then shouldn't a shardblade be used as a metalmind? Then why not nightblood?
