I haven't read everything in the cosmere. I am sure Aons could do this but I am looking for any ways to make portals. Wont lie, after watching live action Lilo and Stitch that portal gun was too dope to not ask about ways to pull that off in the cosmere. Just such a cool magic (my personal chosen super power if any would be portals. To many moves and too much time commuting to not see huge value in it.) Bonus points if the user could manipulate the portal they create by shifting its position and use it to scoop someone / something up.

Can you use A-Duralumin to drain your metalmind realy fast?
DoctaDajman replied to Sythrin's topic in Cosmere Discussion
This one is hard. We dont have numbers so take these with a grain of salt. There are diminishing returns when tapping beyond what you stored. If you weigh 200lbs and store 50% of your weight then that is 100lbs. You will not lose any of that to diminishing returns so long as you tap it in that same increment. 1 minutes at 50% storage is 6,000lbs 1 hour is 360,000. The only way you dont lose any of this is if you tap it at a rate that would stretch it out for an hour or more. If you choose to tap it all at once some of that weight will be lost in the conversion. We dont know how much... say you lose 20%. Instead of weighing 360,200lbs for 1 second you would only weigh 288,200lbs for 1 sec. Again we dont know how much you lose but we know you will lose something. As for duralumin and its uses here... I dont know 100% but I would guess that those allomantic metals would work on metalminds. If you were tapping a ring and used duralumin you may be forced to use it all with no loss of attribute... but then you are losing all excess anyways because the entire metalmind would empty. I believe the same with nicrosil vs a feruchemist and chromium against a feruchemist. The metalmind in use actively will be wiped clean. In golds case, you have enough health to heal 5 bullet wounds over a few hours. You want that healing instantly? Maybe you only heal 3 bullet wounds from what is lost. Using duralumin while tapping will make sure you lose all health, 5 bullet wounds worth, no matter how many holes you are trying to patch up... Using larger amounts quickly comes with a promise of waste right? But some waste while you rapidly titrate the amount of attribute you need to use could still be far more advantageous than using duralumin to make sure yoh dont lose any of your storage if it ends up being way overkill on use. -
So if there is a passive use of an ability and an active use for each ability belonging to a fused, what do you suspect is the passive use of tension for The Focused Ones. I know its probably all speculation but I so want to hear ideas tossed around here.
-
Could you spike one of the focused ones?
DoctaDajman replied to DoctaDajman's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I like this. Might be easiest to just bond a peakspren but I would rather the ability straight from them. Do you think this is a nicrosil spike or an atium spike? -
Tension is by far my favorite surge. So Im trying to imagine ways of getting it outside of becoming a radiant. The most obvious thought... spiking a focused one. But their entire ability is based around making themselves unpenetrable. How would you, if its possible, spike one of these fused to steal their command over tension and what metal would you use to do it? I'll @Trusk'our because hemalurgy, but I welcome anyones thoughts on the subject.

If flying is a passive ability that does not cost the heavenly ones anything, and they are moving via fall, then what does it matter if they are falling at a feathers pace or not? Instead of titrating their lashing amount to speed up or slow down they can titrate their weight. The point is that they can be storing all of their weight and still be mobile because they move around for free at the speed of a fall. Wind resistance may make them slower the lighter they are, but the fact stands that they can still be mobile. That isn't even talking about the fact that they will never become boyant because they will still be wearing metalminds which will always have weight. I dont know how much heavenly ones way but the Fused are usually depicted as a good deal larger than humans and they are covered in heavy natural chitin armoring which I imagine makes them far denser and heavier than their human counter parts. If a heavenly ones weighs 400lbs and stored even 90% of their weight they would still have enough mass to move around via lashings. If they aren't in a hurry they could probably store closer to 100%. But even at only 90% storage just 1 hour of storing would leave them 1.3million pounds to play with later. And again, because their flight is their passive free mobility, that adds up really really fast. They can manipulate their flight in ways that kaladin or the lord ruler could only dream of. Give a heavenly one iron feruchemy and you will make the most maneuverable, and dangerous flier in the entire cosmere bar none. Add onto that their own armoring and and a healing source and you have mini nukes flying around. They could reach dangerous levels of acceleration and if they swap their massive aluminum spears out for something more dense like tungsten (which they could lash with them to make it nearly weightless in their hands as it would be falling in the same direction as themselves). Then they could reach speeds in a dive bombing run and let that puppy fly unlike anything we have seen.
-
So outside of a vacuum this should all work? I would still think that at 1 lashing the speed of acceleration from gravity is the standard 9meters per second per second. I assume that cutting weight in half would simply double the speed the person is currently moving... if you did it at 1 second it would only double you from 9 meters per second to 18. Really the idea is that you could drastically reduce the time to terminal velocity which takes ~10 seconds to reach at 1 lashing. But this still would not accelerate you in the way that a coinshot would accelerate from a push. I think gravity just takes a while to ramp up flight speed. Anything to speed that up would be beneficial. The benefit to being an iron ferring and a heavenly one is that you could store millions and millions of lbs each day since you are floating anyways. You can cut a million in half a bunch of times to build ludicrous momentum with a single second of falling.
-
The passive flight makes F-iron insane on them. You could store nearly 100% of your weight at all times if you are moving around via lashings. Honestly they are already insanely mobile and adept at flying. If you added on the ability to manipulate speed via conservation of momentum on top of that... completely bonkers the results they could achieve. Even if their passive use is limited in the amount of lashings they can use. The added weight would not damage any of the environment around them and so they could make themselves magnitudes heavier as they start their lashing only to cut down and boost acceleration even more. Now I am curious how quickly lashings can stop someone from falling... if you started at 100,000 lbs to rocket yourself forward by dropping your weight to nothing in the first moments of a lashing how hard would it be to negate all of the inertia when you want to slow down? I guess you could always tap another 100,000 lbs to come to a near dead stop instantly.
-
This is actually a really dope thought. I dont know how much stonewards can manipulate matter but it seems like they could almost replicate the feats seen by the boy in "Race to Witch Mountain". A stoneward with iron feruchemy could pull off the most bonkers feats!
-
This is largely what I was getting at. If you gave Tarson a spike with duralumin do you think he could duralumin burn 3-4 days worth of consistent pewter burn in a under a minute and have healed his arm that quickly? Heck find yourself a buddy like Wayne who can toss up a speed bubble and you might be able to make the healing look near instant as if there was gold feruchemy working.
-
I'll be honest... this post alone makes me revisit years old thoughts on Stonewards. Definately my favorite order without a doubt. My question is, we see stone shaping via the will of the user right? Would this then allow a stoneward to not only harden soft materials and shape them, but also soften hard materials and shape them to their will? One of my favorite imaginings is the iron spider suit from the MCU. In the past I imagined it as awakened ropes /steel cables and they would work on their own based on their interpretation of a command. But with this would it be the stoneward who can invest some chains and control / distort and manipulate them to their own will in real time? Like honestly a lot cheaper way of doing a super cool thing IMO. Get some ropes /chains / steel cables and infuse them with stormlight manipulating the molecular bonds over and over again to create some legit doc ock arms?

Kelsier vs Hoid Who Would Win
DoctaDajman replied to The WorldHopper Taynix's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Okay. I see my technical error. I had theorized he was eaten and reshaped years ago. I guess in my mind is didnt categorize kandra and mistwraith separately enough. Yes kandra specific blessings vs a single eye spike and what not. I love the theory. The advantages of a kandra body Im interested in are still available to a mistwraith. Functional immortality save very specific death scenes... no trap doors into acid! I am a spoiler addict too. To be honest... I sort of hate the story behind the stormlight archives. I dont find the internal everyone battling depression to be enjoyable to read in the slightest. The world has too many emo mysterious guys in the corner of the tavern already. I haven't read RoW or dawnshard or edgedance... but I love the magics so I will grab spoilers as necessary to see the magic play out. Keep on spoiling peeps! -
Kelsier vs Hoid Who Would Win
DoctaDajman replied to The WorldHopper Taynix's topic in Cosmere Discussion
What is full power for Kelsier? If you hold a shard for a moment but cant hold it again is the vs battle taking place in that moment or in the here and now. Kelsier here and now is staying hidden for good reasons. He is lying about his powers for good reasons. I dont know that Kelsier has much to work with other than a boat load of experience with powers he doesn't have anymore. That isn't to say that a cognitive shadow stapled to a body isn't still dangerous. (Even more so if he happens to be stapled to a kandra body but this is wild speculation and probably not true... I will @Treamayne and maybe they know?) Even with the bands, if Kelsier doesn't have a weapon like nightblood Hoid will simply regen anything back... -
Kelsier vs Hoid Who Would Win
DoctaDajman replied to The WorldHopper Taynix's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Perhaps this is just my first thing in the morning eyes but that last paragraph comes off quite unkind and not really how I like to see the community act towards one another. Having read or listened to all of Brandon's works is not a prerequisite for participating in this forum. The OP isn't the first one to ask this question and wont be the last. If the dawnshard didn't limit Hoids actions the man would absolutely body anyone else in the cosmere short of a shard. I think vs battles are what first made me participate in these forums. Nice thought exercises that stretch the systems. But fair warning... Brandon did not make the magics balanced towards one another. Hoid has collected enough of the systems of magic that he would be a complete menace if he was allowed to hurt anything. Kelsier at the moment is not a shard and is, if you take his word for it, powerless aside from the spike stapling his soul to his body. If he had full bands of mourning he would be a menace as well but even gold compounding is not as effective as dawnshard healing. Give anyone Nightblood and I think Hoid would start sweating. Nightblood vs anyone makes for a one-sided match-up. -
Proprioception and the sense of balance plus F Tin
DoctaDajman replied to DoctaDajman's topic in Cosmere Discussion
You are for sure remembered. The pewter being duralumin boosted really is just a time and effort saver. Thinking of what life without proprioception would be like is sad. But in this case you can sacrifice some money on metals and store copious amounts of proprioception in just a few moments. Thinking about the fact that you could store weeks worth of pewter enhanced proprioception and balance (probably a two-fer here in that they are each different senses) in just moments. Yes, you are willingly sacrificing the other benefits of pewter, but the metal is one of the cheaper metals and it is readily available. If you have the duralumin sitting around for it, you might as well quickly burn as much as you can and fill those metalminds up. Now you dont have to choose to give up the senses over a long period of time. This may be one of the only metals that can really allow you to store as if you were a compounder... 10s, 100s, even 1000's+ times faster than just storing it yourself. I mean if you can store 30 minutes worth of that in a second. It's Likely you could store days worth in jusy slightly more than that same second. -
Oh it would take copious amounts. If as @Treamayne said, it took Vin months to recover and that was with a slow burn of pewter then it would probably take at least that much pewter to get her back on her feet in a shorter amount of time. My thought was, how much pewter in volume could you feasibly burn in a day? If you were burning say a quarter of a pound of pewter shavings in a normal day and it took you 2 months worth to recover that would still be like 15lbs worth of pewter to get results equivalent to the pewter. Even if pewter did double normal healing factor that 2 months worth of pewter would still leave you needing 2 months of typical healing time to to catch up. So, say you had some money to spend on duralumin and pewter and you just go to town duralumin burning 30lbs of pewter in a half hour. I dont see why your body wouldn't start to knit itself up better. For massive wounds this would be an issue. For smaller wounds this could be a legitimate option to getting back to work faster. I absolutely agree. 1 oz of pewter being instantly used up with a duralumin burn bracing for impact and or avoiding the damage all together is probably the oz of prevention that is worth hundreds of pounds of the cure.
-
So I believe that pewter allomancy speeds up the healing process for the user. This isn't said to be by a great amount but Vin made pretty great use of it a few times going from nearly dead to able to fight again a scene later. (I know it could be days weeks or months) But what I want to explore is the potential for pewter healing when it is not used as a background slow burning unconscious usage. What of someone with access to duralumin and pewter? Could an allomancer gets stabbed in the gut and duralumin burn lbs of pewter in a matter of moments and the body naturally move through the healing process for them.

Proprioception and the sense of balance plus F Tin
DoctaDajman replied to DoctaDajman's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Well... I sort of envision the combo of A-pewter and F-tin being a boosted DareDevil. Adding in an option to duralumin burst your pewter for insane amount of proprioception may enter spidey senses territory. In fact I think a duralumin pewter push is the closest thing to Spidermans body mechanics without himself holding back out there... but the sensation of knowing your body in relation to all other objects and space around it sounds a lot like spidey sense IMO. -
I have to @Koloss17 for this post for obvious reasons F-tin. So I have long believed that a person could store that sense of balance and proprioception into Tin minds. I also believe that because A-pewter increases both of those things, a tin ferring could store at a faster rate and at a higher threshold. We are use to seeing feruchemy scrape off small amounts of storage over a large amount of time and then compress that attribute into a large boosted enhancement for a short amount of time. Is it possible to do the reverse? If I am laying down safely in my isolation chamber I probably don't need to worry about my senses being dulled. And there isn't an inherently dangerous pitfall to storing 100% of a sense like there is for speed or health or strength. So can I store 100% of all of my senses as I meditate for an hour and then be 125% more sensitive for 4 hours later? If so it leads me to another question. My big question would be if it were boosted by say a duralumin enhanced pewter burn would that increased, likely perfected, proprioception be stored as a massive chunk usable in over time? If proprioception and balance were increased by double their standard while pewter is burning and you store 100% of that then wouldnt you end up with 200% stored over duration of the pewter burn for future use? If I had a chunk of pewter that would normally burn over an hour and I duralumin blasted it over a few seconds could I then say I have an hours worth of 200% normal proprioception and balance stored in 2 seconds? Now I can go around with triple the normal balance and proprioception for an hour for 2 seconds of storage time yeah?

Lashings and protection from friction

Lashings and protection from friction
DoctaDajman replied to DoctaDajman's topic in Cosmere Discussion
But there is a difference in capping it between the two. If you go too fast with feruchemy and are not a full feruchemist you are cooked. But a fullborn could simply heal themselves through traveling mach X (x being the point where they can nolonger keep metalminds touching them.) A big difference here is that radiants already have a built in healing factor to offset any damage they may deal. Radiants also have shardplate at later stages that is designed to be nearly impervious to all heat attacks. There is a big difference on a cap imposed by the system and a theoretical point where any user would say ouch and stop playing. -
Lashings and protection from friction
DoctaDajman replied to DoctaDajman's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Oh really? That is really interesting. How does that work with terminal velocity? I always figured that with the ability to stack lashings windrunners could accelerate basically as fast as they wanted. Not only that but that they could turn anything pebble into a death machine even at close range. Being a tried and true mistborn fan I was disappointed that windrunners could do everything a coinshot could do but better with minimal effort. But this makes it sound like there is a hard limit on acceleration due to lashings... something I would be delighted to see. -
So lashings are able to be stacked to magnify multiples of gravity. For a radiant I assume this doesn't mean anything because the shardplate or stormlight will protect / heal them from air resistance and said friction... But what about for someone the surgebinder chooses to inflict lashings onto? Could a windrunner throw 300 lashings on a person and make them accelerate some 2700meters per second per second and basically kill them that way? Or would the Lashing itself protect the subject from those forces that would try to kill them? We see many many lashing dumped into things to accelerate them faster... or to try to rip stones out of their places in walls and such.

There are different levels of aethers. Not just the primal ones. There are tiers if I am not mistaken. Have you considered the possibility that an aether bonded themselves to a native Rosharan and the unmaking process simply altered them and corrupted them in a way that allows them to use voidlight to fuel their bindings and adds efficiency and power through that?

Do you think Sanderson releases too fast too many books?
DoctaDajman replied to Sythrin's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Perhaps that is what will happen with era 3 of mistborn. I believe his plan is to write all 3 books before releasing any of them. Maybe that will give the time and refinement that we are all hoping for.
