  1. I tried to edit my last post but I couldn't add a quote to it.
  2. This is not an argument for 'Szeth will be Odium's champion', but he wouldn't necessarily lose his Radiance in doing so. If he achieved the 5th Ideal then he wouldn't have to follow the 3rd anymore.
  3. Szeth doesn't seem that unhinged to me yet and he seems pretty opposed to Odium. Also, he's likely to get his last Ideal near the end of the book and people are theorizing the contest will happen near the middle. Until he achieves the 5th Ideal, he still has to obey Dalinar. None of them know that its a new Vessel, though that may change by the time the contest comes Most importantly, Brandon has always said that you dont need to read all his books to enjoy them individually. While RoW was stretching that, he admitted he did it to give the whole thing an air of mysticism for those who hasn't read his earlier works. But using Breath in a battle would require a lot of explaining and it would require either giving a very important chunk of the book to someone who has had just one interlude or describing the contest from the view of a bystander, which would be far more confusing.
  4. Really hard to tell. Maybe M-Bot because he's M-Bot but it also might be one of the Superiority species. They're so interesting, especially the dione's methods of reproduction. Or maybe Brade so I can try to figure out her twisted logic. Or murder her. Much better.
  5. Welcome to Shard! Though you've already been here a while, so you're not exactly new. A surprising number of people don't post an introduction here- there are some 4,200 posts on the Intro page and over 27,000 members in the Shard. Either way, what's your favorite Cosmere book?
  6. Do pancakes count? Because pancakes are very similar to crepes. If it isnt baking, is it cooking? That doesnt seem to fit.
  7. I like baking but I cant bake much. Just pie and cakes and crepes. I've never tried gingerbread.
  8. Welcome to the Shard! There are a lot of theory discussions and some are pretty crazy so I'd say all theory discussions are encouraged. I agree that Elantris was a bit 'rougher' since it was one of his first novels but it had its own special feel. I definitely liked it better than Warbreaker. What's your favorite Non-Cosmere book?
  9. I'd pick the magic to make whatever I write, real. Then I could get all of the magics.
  10. Welcome to the Shard! I started with Mistborn but found my way to WoK since it was mentioned in the Acknowledgements. And I also told everyone I know who is interested in books- which amounts up to two people. You might want to read Warbreaker before Stormlight reread. Its not really that big, at least compared to Stormlight, and it contains some major easter eggs for OB and RoW. It was written just for Stormlight in the first place, I think .
  11. Definitely Kaladin. He is phenomenal. Syl and Adolin are pretty great too, though. *Rhythm of War Spoilers below*
  12. Welcome to the Shard! I'm pretty new too and joined for the exact same reasons. I haven't really been reading that long- its been, maybe, two years- but I'm a huge fan as well. And Rhythm of War definitely had more easter eggs than any other one of this books. What's your favorite character?
  13. I'm not sure what the purpose behind those metal inclusions is but they obviously change his power in some way. And maybe Lezian was so afraid because El had had, and perhaps still does, a formidable reputation among the Fused. It'll probably be revealed in the next book.
  14. Welcome to the Shard! Who's your favorite character? And I really like the name.
  15. Welcome to the Shard! I'm new too. A lot of people say they've discovered Brandon Sanderson through Wheel of Time. How is Wheel of Time? And whose your favorite Cosmere character?
  16. I registered recently as well. What is your second favorite series?
  17. Wow. Just wow. That was amazing. What happened to the light, though? And Mother?

  19. I first heard of Brandon Sanderson when one of my best friends mentioned Mistborn as one of her favorite books about . . . two years ago? I dont really remember, it feels much like longer. She got the recommendation from our English teacher who gave my mother a file to download books from when I got a Kindle. After reading Mistborn a few times, I read Era Two as well and found that Stormlight was mentioned in the Annotations as the reason he wasn't currently writing The Lost Metal. I was annoyed at the book and decided to see what was so important that he wouldn't finish Era Two. Then halfway through WoK I almost stopped but after finishing the book, my mind blew up and I read every Cosmere book after that along with Skyward and Perfect State.
  20. It was a hard choice but I like Skyward better. Starsight was much more informative but it dragged a bit in place and the ending was a huge cliffhangar. Skyward also had a cliffhangar ending but it was a bit more resolved, even if the whole plot was more predictable.
  21. I just recently read DE and it was great. I especially like Jason's idealism about the Superiority and how it ended. It gave more insight into the human wars and a lot of info on Cytonics.. I do have one question, though. If FTL is the most advanced cytonic skill, why hasn't Spin gotten mindblades yet?
  22. I definitely like the prose version better. It had much better character development and gave a clear view of their internal struggles. I wish it had ended on a less open note and I'd have liked to see Ais as a woman there. But, overall, the prose was a whole lot more complete than the GN and conveyed the world with a depth that the GN didnt.
  23. I agree. Maybe Dalinar cant kill a child but a child cant kill Dalinar either This seems more like a Kaladin Rattle to me. And the biggest factor is, no one except Brandon Sanderson knows what the contest will actually be. But this part implies that something will go wrong in the contest due to an 'honorable' decision.
  24. I also feel bad for Ironsides. She was just trying her best and she took time to handwrite letters to the parents of the casualties. She admitted her mistakes when it came to battle, but she was a very stubborn when it came to the 'defect'. But, from her point of view, she was the one who trusted Spensa's father and ignored the defect which got most of her flight killed. And she really did think that having the defect made you turn traitor in the middle of a battle.
