You know, you may be right. I’m a cat person, but I know better than anyone that kittens are small chasmfiends in disguise. -
Dalinar and the Contest (read with caution)
Procrastination replied to Procrastination's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yeah, I'm interested to see if Brandon will release a short(er) novella that's in between the two arcs. I'm so sad it's probably going to be like 30 years until the series is completely finished but these are huge books.- 55 replies

We know that Dalinar and Odium will have a contest of some kind ten days from the time RoW ends. We don't know any specifics except the agreement, what's being wagered, and that Dalinar is apparently going to be his own champion. (plus a little more buuut I'm trying to keep this short ) I'm an optimist, don't get me wrong. I want Dalinar to win. But I'm thinking that he will lose. -Wait! Don't leave! Hear me out! You still here? Good! The problem is, what will they DO if he wins?? (they being everyone) Odium, the Fused, and the Unmade will be gone. The Regals's powers are granted by Odium and the Fused. The regular singer soldiers will die quickly. Who is there left to have as an antagonist?? This will be book 5 in a ten-book series. What would Sanderson do?? Kill off Dalinar and perhaps Kaladin (as much as I like him, he's my favorite character, my second being maybe Veil, but she's gone..., I doubt that he'll get a happy ending. It'll likely be dying to save someone he loves, like Oroden, or even hates, like Moash, after swearing the 5th Ideal.) and have the Radiants be a group of freedom fighters in a Odium-controlled world, or have everyone who lives have a happier ending and fight occasional new bad guys while practicing their powers?? As sad as it is, if I were Brandon, I would do option A. But maybe it'll be option B and everything will be happy! ...But probably not. (Maybe it would be something in between though...I can't tell the future.)

Unpopular Rhythm of War opinions
Procrastination replied to Frustration's topic in Stormlight Archive
(not super unpopular opinion) I thought Jasnah was going the right direction. Free every slave? Yeah, go for it! But then Dalinar had to be like "Oh no no no no no Jasnah, you can't free every slave!!! It would cause social unrest and ruin the economy!!" Me: "Like that hasn't happened already. The singers already revolted, (for good reason, they were treated like animals.) and last I checked, you wanted Jasnah to stand up to all of the highprinces and lighteyes. That means you too." Dalinar just is so accustomed to getting his way he is kinda surprised if someone denies him. Also, I really liked Navini and the Sibling’s bond. It provides a problem (Navini makes fabrials which the Sibling doesn’t like) which wouldn’t have occurred if Rlain was the Bondsmith. I also actually like that Rlain got a corrupted spren. What could be better for him than a spren that really chose and wanted him, and Renarin, who may be one of his closest friends at this point, to not be alone anymore?? I personally thought that worked out very well. -
Here's my clumsy idea for a movie trailer for WoR: We see a black screen, the music starts soft but rises until it's a song, a chant. The Rhythm of Destruction. Voiceover: The Knights Radiant must stand again. Wide shot of Kaladin soaring over the Shattered Plains, Shallan creating Veil's face through Lightweaving, and Dalinar shouting, "I will unite instead of divide!!" Voiceover: The ancient oaths have again been spoken. Kaladin bursts alight with Stormlight as Syl shouts, "Stretch forth thy hand!" Voiceover: Men seek what was lost, but I fear the quest will destroy them. The Stormfather saying "You have killed her." Pattern saying, " Someday, you will kill me." Voiceover: It is the nature of the magic. A broken soul has cracks into which something can be fit. Surgebinding, the powers of creation themselves. They can brace a broken soul, but they can also widen its fissures. Kaladin says, "This is what comes from trusting lighteyes, Syl. Never again." Shallan saying to Pattern, "I hate you." Voiceover: The Windrunner is lost in a shattered land, balanced upon the boundary between vengeance and honor. Moash saying, " You know I'm right, don't you, Kal?" Cuts to Kaladin saying, "I gave my word to Dalinar." Syl responding, "You gave your word to Moash too..." Voiceover: The Lightweaver, slowly being consumed by her past, searches for the lie she must become. Shallan weeping as her father turns her away from the bodies. Cut to adult Shallan turning over the body of her mother, but it fades before we can fully see her face. Voiceover: The Bondsmith, born in blood and death, now strives to rebuild what was destroyed. Dalinar pulling off a lastclap as Szeth swings his sword toward him, and Dalinar reciting the parable about the stacked rocks to the highprinces. Voiceover: The Explorer, straddling the fates of two peoples, is forced to choose between slow death and a terrible betrayal of all she believes. Shots of Eshonai in the storm, holding the glowing gemstone, and Eshonai fighting Adolin. Voiceover: It is past time for them to awaken. Montage of clips of Radiants, Parshendi, and the Battle of Narak, with glowing eyes awakening across the chasm. It goes faster and faster until it blurs to black, and we start to see red bursts of light. Voiceover: For the Everstorm looms. Red lightning flashes across the screen, and amid the thunder, we hear an eerie, haunting song. Voiceover: And the Assassin has arrived. The music reaches a crescendo as Szeth slams into the ground amid feasting lighteyes, glowing with Stormlight, holding his Honorblade. They scream as he sweeps through them and Shardbearers charge out. Silence and a black screen, with Words Of Radiance projected in white-blue Stormlight letters.

I noticed that on page 715, two words are switched. It says: “What did you to do me?” he demanded, voice hoarse. It should be “What did you do to me?” he demanded, voice hoarse.

I agree with you. I don’t think Oroden would do it, because that person needs to be willing, but Gavinor has already showed that he is motivated by vengeance for his father, like in RoW, when talking to Navini about learning how to fight. He says, If Gavinor was persuaded that Dalinar was the reason his father died, he could easily become Odium’s champion. Some people have also theorized that it could be Gavilar vs. Dalinar, and they point to the “I’m standing over the body of a brother. I’m weeping. Is this his blood or mine? What have we done?” Death Rattle. (I think that’s what it says. I try and type these quotes from memory.) I think this is a bit of a stretch, but plausible. After all, dead people don’t always stay dead in Brandon’s books. Anyways, I almost think it’s neither, simply because we’ve thought of it. (That’s what happens when you read too many Brandon Sanderson books ) ...(wow this topic is so dead)...

Does anyone still want a Moash redemption arc?
Procrastination replied to Elsecaller_17.5's topic in Stormlight Archive
I've hated Moash since the whole "joining Odium and killing Elhokar" thing went down. As far as I'm concerned, Moash can go die. I want to see Navini go all ninja Bondsmith on him and totally wreck him for killing her son. -
Well, this just became terrifingly plausible.

This is Ash, Jezrein is her father, and he's the "king" of the Heralds and the first Windrunner. -
My favorite part was when the stick came and Ascended to Honor. Totally insane!! And totally awesome.

I'm also thinking that Kaladin might be Odium's champion. That would be cruel though...Kaladin has been one of my favorite characters (besides Lift and Rock) and I really don't want him to die but he prob will. Brandon Sanderson has a talent for killing off main characters. I hope he doesn't die. He probably won't get a happy ending, though. Maybe he could, I don't know, swear the 5th Ideal during the Contest and he decides to not fight instead of being consumed by TaravOdium.(Taravangian + Odium) I hope it's not him vs. Gavinor, that would be cruel to send a tiny 3 year old against a professional soldier and Knight Radiant. But that might be just what Odium needs to do to win...

Kind of off topic, but I feel like even if Elhokar wasn't ready to say the oaths until the day he died, , he was still being watched by the Cryptics.(he says he sees strange figures in mirrors with twisted heads in TWoK) Which makes me wonder, hmmm, well, why would Elhokar be a Lightweaver?? Would it be because he was kind of lying to himself, and the Cryptics are fascinated with things like that? Or could it be that Cultivation was interfering here, too? ...[mysterious silence]...

Interesting theory!! It sounds like it could work. I wonder if the "suckling child" might actually refer to Kaladin having to make a choice to kill Elhokar or protect him in WoR. The full Death Rattle says: The "I hold the suckling child in my hands" could be referring to how Kaladin men were guarding the king, and so they were in charge of his safety. Elhokar is often referred to as a "child" and acts like one often, especially in TWoK. The child's could also refer to how Elhokar is innocent, like a child. The knife could refer to how Kal could choose to let them kill Elhokar. "Spill its blood upon the ground, over my hands, and with it gain us further breath to draw" maybe refers to how if Elhokar died, Dalinar (even though we find out he wouldn't later) would be king, and he would lead better and make things better, and give them more time to prepare.

Also, if your interpretation turns out to be correct when there's an answer to it, you can throw yourself a party and announce it to the world. Now go off and search!!
-
In the Stormlight Archive, Death Rattles are a big part of the Diagram's "telling the future" thing. I've noticed a lot of people trying to interpret what they mean, but they're scattered around, and hard to find. So this is dedicated to searching for and interpreting the Death Rattles that appear so often in the books. You can look at the ones at the start of the chapters, but there are also many in the chapters themselves, like when Maps dies on a bridge run in TWoK. Anyways, I hope you can find some good ones! ........... I basically just sent you on an Easter egg hunt for words spoken in dying delirium.

This might be true, but I was also thinking: We have learned that Shallan bonded Testament and swore oaths as a child, enough to get a Shardblade (which led to her killing her mother and her betraying her oaths and killing her spren etc., etc). That was long before Syl found Kaladin. If that's enough to be a full Radiant, then how is Kaladin picking up the "fallen title" of Radiant?? It sounds like the Death Rattle is saying that the person it's talking about will be the very first to have that title in a extremely long time, like a Herald. (But then again, I'm the sort of person that wants a twist to be super dramatic and awesome soooo....)
