  1. There goes my savings! These look great!
  2. Think about it this way: they don’t know Dalinar, having only heard stories, and now they’re working for somebody who they don’t know. While it is used as a plot device, it also makes some sense.
  3. Heh, I was about to say this. Prepare yourself mentally, Amira. It gets worse. Much worse.
  4. New PFP!

    …Shocking, I know.

    1. Thaidakar the Ghostblood

      Thaidakar the Ghostblood

      INCONCEIVABLE! take my rep.

  5. I’ve been thinking about Adolin’s time in Lasting Integrity, and how he says that he doesn’t think Radiants force bonds. It reminded me of how people were saying Navani and the Sibling shouldn’t have bonded, because Navani “forced” the Sibling to bond her. (Ok, don’t come for me. I put it in quotations because it’s an opinion, idk. Regardless, this hasn’t happened yet in the book.) That in turn made me think of Dalinar bonding the Stormfather at the end of WoR. You know, when he says this: Even though the Stormfather eventually agrees, I was surprised that the honorspren didn’t bring this scenario up at the trial. It’s the perfect piece of evidence—it shows that Dalinar was trying to kind of force a bond, and that the Stormfather believed that if he were to be bound that he would be killed, and so resisted. So why didn’t they bring this up? I suppose they might not have known about it, but they seem to know a lot. They only talk about Dalinar almost breaking his bond, however. What do you guys think?
  6. Ok, I got a few. 1. I don’t really like Dalinar. I loved Adolin’s POVs, and that’s a huge part of it, but this has been building since Oathbringer. While Dalinar had his great moments, his flashbacks were the only ones I’ve disliked, and every time he talks to Adolin in RoW, I grow more upset with him. Because of all that, I was actually completely fine with very little Dalinar in RoW, because we just got so much Dalinar in Oathbringer. 2. I really liked Eshonai and Venli’s flashbacks. I just thought they were really interesting. 3. I like Venli’s character. I like seeing her struggles, and seeing her trying to be better made me really happy. I just overall liked reading her POVs. 4. I liked Navani and the Sibling bonding. It provides room for conflict, and the Sibling did choose to bond Navani in the end. Navani technically didn’t force them, unlike Dalinar with the Stormfather.
  7. I remember reading tWoK for the first time, and I also loved Kaladin’s chapters. I still do! I hope you keep uploading for the other books as well.
  8. I know I’m super late to this, and somebody else might’ve answered this already, but the city you’re talking about is Seslamex Dar. Sigzil told Kaladin about it after Kaladin’s dream.
  9. I feel bad for Dalinar. He spent years feeling guilty and forced himself to follow the Codes because his beloved brother told him to, and now we find out what Gavilar really thought of him and how he just told him to follow the Codes to manipulate him. Also, about the Stormfather/Stormfaker telling him that a demand was almost the Words: I thought that was odd as well. However, I also thought that maybe the Stormfather/Stormfaker meant something different. Instead of saying that the words themselves were correct, perhaps he meant that the Words could be considered a kind of demand to the Radiant: a demand to be better, especially because it appears that Gavilar may have become the Stormfather's Bondsmith. I don't have the exact quote, but doesn't the Stormfather/Stormfaker say something along the lines of "we have no bond"? This could imply that Gavilar was trying to bond him when he was guessing the Words. I know it's a stretch, and that the Stormfather/Stormfaker could have been lying, but I like this theory regardless.
  10. So, I’ve been thinking about the differences between the Nightwatcher’s boons and Cultivation’s boons. For the Nightwatcher’s boons, we keep seeing completely unrelated boons and curses. For example, one of Ash’s assistants, Av, talks about how his father got cloth for his boon, and then saw the world upside down. However, when Cultivation gives a boon, she appears to make them related. For Dalinar, he forgot his pain from Evi’s death, but he also can’t remember anything else about her. For Taravangian, he received wisdom and empathy/passion, but he could never have them at the same time. Each boon and curse appears to be related. They also appear to be influenced by what Cultivation knows about them. This brings us to Lift’s boon and curse. We don’t know her exact words, only that she has said that asked not to change. We also don’t know exactly what her curse was. What we do know is that she now can make Lifelight out of food, and appears to be partially in the Cognitive Realm. I’m not sure how this is related to not changing, however we can try to guess her curse off of her wording. My theory is that she's changing mentally instead of physically. After all, she’s obviously growing, but her mindset stays the same. She mentions that stealing food is her thing, and she doesn’t want to change it. She says the first time we see her that the reason she hasn’t stolen from a place like a palace is because she doesn’t know where she would go after that. She demonstrates a ridiculous level of stubbornness and a hatred of change throughout the entire series. I believe this is because she is partially stuck in the Cognitive Realm, the realm of spren. Syl mentions that spren don’t change, and we’ve seen other groups of spren stuck in the same behaviors, like Lift is. Spren also regard stormlight as a kind of fuel. For instance, when Notum is injured in RoW, the group gives him stormlight to help him heal. Lift uses Lifelight in this way, turning food/fuel into Lifelight. Whether these are just coincidences or not, Lift does appear to be stuck mentally, and I believe that this was her curse. Please tell me your theories, if you have any!
  11. Fabrial effects are determined by the metal used for the cage as well. Although, with the death ray idea, could you make a diminisher fabrial with a deathspren inside and place it next to somebody who’s dying? What would that do? …Fabrials are weird.
  12. This seems like it could actually happen. Like, if Lift already has lifelight, and then gets stormlight, she very well might be able to join the two. A little off topic here, but isn’t the reason Dalinar can open a perpendicularity and recharge spheres because he’s bonded to the Stormfather, not because he’s a Bondsmith? I’m not sure though
  13. Hi to the few people who’ll see this! Just so you all know, I have returned.

    fear me

  14. (I know this is a dead thread but I’m still going to post) We do meet the Mink before RoW, but his name/title is never directly said. Remember the Shulin interlude in (I think) Oathbringer, where he’s captured by Herdazians? It is interesting how often Rosharians use the word mink. I hadn’t noticed that.
  15. Honestly, at first I found Shallan’s perspective kind of…I don’t really know. Just not my favorite to read. As I read through all the books, though, I’ve actually loved her character more and more, after seeing more of her struggles. (Especially after RoW). I guess I’m just trying to say that I get what some of you guys are saying, but I personally feel her struggles are too big for her to just “suck it up”.
  16. This sounds a lot like the One, (the one the shoemaker in Iri taught the beggar about)!!
  17. When you decide that if you lived on Roshar, you would name your cat Tacocat. Because it’s a palindrome.
  18. I’m dying!!! Anyway this is a pun not a meme but it works Moash: Hello, I need a new window. Window Salesman: Why?? Moash: Odium took my pane.
  19. What if all of us making memes and obsessing over SA is just a meme someone else is making and all of our lives are lies?? …Anyway here’s another meme.
  20. Why do I keep seeing people with the Most Ancient rep level, but they haven’t been here the longest?? It’s destroying my brain.
  21. Came to Shai’s house and proceeded to declare that
  22. Ok!!! I wish to know who’s been on the 17th Shard the longest. (I’ll just tell you right now, it’s definitely not me, and I don’t know who it is.) These are people who are still active. Since the Most Ancient is most likely @Chaos, since they’ve likely been here since the start, and that makes it not as fun, moderators do not count. (Sorry to the mods out there!) Now go, my fellow Sharders!!! Go find the One Most Ancient!!!!!!! And then post here, and if you have found them, then throw yourself a party!!
  23. Don’t you mean, four times in a RoW??? ....yeah that was really bad. *runs away*
  24. Honestly?? Just because you don’t believe the same things that Jasnah does doesn’t mean you have to say her beliefs are illogical. When you look at the Shards, like Honor, (the Almighty), they really aren’t gods.
  25. When you read every acknowledgments page to see if Brandon named any of his characters or places after his friends. ...I just realized this topic has been dead for 6 years...
