  1. I would point out that apparently the black smoke is specifically corrupted Breaths (https://wob.coppermind.net/events/250/#e7374). Additionally, per this WoB it might be better to describe what is happening within Nightblood as mixing of Investitures, not changing one into another So I don't personally think Nightblood converts consumed Investiture into Ruin's, but instead that: He contains some Ruin's Investiture, that was most likely drawn into him during creation. This is part of what makes him so 'extra' when it comes to destroying stuff. Consumed Investiture then comingles with his own Investiture, and is leaked out. So the leaked out black smoke is not just Ruin's Investiture, but commingling of the Ruin's Investiture he has access to and the Investiture he has consumed.
  2. I agree as well, it would feel like re-tread of Mistborn. However, so far Brandon keeps pulling out unexpected developments, so I hope that hints at War shard are just red herring, and we will see something new on Roshar.
  3. Yet. Again, yet. The fact remains that he can resist for appreciable amount of time, something which is not possible for really any other non-Shard entity as far as we know. Fair enough, we will see. Bondsmithing requires physical contact, he did not have that. However, Stormfather did, which again shows that for a lot of purposes Radiant and their Spren are as one. He reached out directly into SR, something that was not shown by any other Bondsmith yet. Even Ishar seems to requires some measure of physical connection. And he still Connected Kaladin with his dead brother. That is feat beyond anything we have really seen. Exactly, in that moment Dalinar acted with power and authority of Shard, despite not holding any remnant of it. Stormfather holds part of Shard, not Dalinar, and yet Dalinar could act as if he was Shard. No, he is not just Sliver and Cognitive Shadow, he is something more. He is largest Splinter of Honor, one made intentionally (https://wob.coppermind.net/events/34/#e5991). Stormfather could Ascend, if situation was right, and Honor was reforged. And then Dalinar would be Bonded to a Shard, and could leverage some of its power in ways yet unseen, as he has already demonstrated.
  4. Stormfather however is also explicitly not a full Shard. He only holds the largest remnant + Cognitive Shadows of Tanavast. Of course he is not on level with Odium. I bet if Honor was reforged, then Stormfather could stop Odium from breaking into visions with ease. Edit: And I forgot that Stormfather was able to resist Odium from breaking into vision, if only for some time. So despite not being full Shard, he can temporarily resist full Shard. Dalinar already did make him stop blowing winds, if only temporarily. Dalinar has already shown capacity beyond most when he somehow managed to Connect Kaladin with spiritweb of his deceased brother. Brother he has never seen might I add. And he did it by acting through Stormfather, and notably he was speaking in the same letters Stormfather does. When acting like that he is already showing those capabilites, and don't forget that spiritwebs of spren and their Knights are slowly merging as Oaths progress. Who is to say what 5th Oath Bondsmith bonded to Shard could do, and how it would affect their Cognitive self. Dalinar + Honor would already be much more equipped to resist Autonomy than Sazed was. Elendel was couple of minutes from destruction, and only fluke of events saved it. Sure there are hints that Sazed was not as blind as he acted, however, Honor+Dalinar would have been able to act much more directly to counter Autonomy. Not to say they are more powerful than Sazed, of course not. But they are free to act where he simply isn't. Agree to disagree then. And I would just stress than in the theory Shard is held by Stormfather, who could act as full Shard in both CR and SR. It is only PR where he would be limited, however Dalinar would provide the Connection to PR needed to act. Like Avatar, but more so. And per this WoB (https://wob.coppermind.net/events/484/#e15824), there are ways to work around the limitation of not having link to PR, and I would say having Bondsmith is one of those ways. So there would be full Shard (Stormfather), with access to PR (through Bondsmith), and the Bondsmith can leverage some or possibly all of the Shard powers temporarily (like we are already seeing Dalinar do in Connecting Kaladin and accepting his Oath, on Thaylen Fields, etc.).
  5. Fair enough, I agree that that part is a bit more of a stretch. Nightwatcher intervention is an interesting idea, question is if she has enough power. But her boon/bane systems seems to be modeled after dragon behavior, so maybe that is done on purpose. Yes, he would be bonded (perhaps more strongly) to a Shard that is held by spren/CS. I disagree. We already see Dalinar act as representative of a Shard, and to actually force the bearer of the largest remnant of Honor (Stormfather) to do as he wishes, and to sometimes take over as the driver of those acts (this with Stormfathers consent). He would not count as Shard yes, but I think he would have possibly control over more than what was in Well of Ascension, albeit not all the time. It would be sort of sliding scale, the more power of his bonded Shard he access, the more bound he is by Intent, but the very fact that he doesn't hold the Shard would partially shield him. I mean, even books say that Stormfather and Dalinar are something new "Your power, my will., which sounds along the lines I am describing. I would position Dalinar somewhere between Avatar and Full Shard in power. Disagree again. Stormfather as the bearer of the Shard would be able to do that 'easily', albeit less effectively. We already saw that in SH, where Kel resisted Ruin. Additionally, in TLM Avatar caused quite a bit of trouble for Sazed, and those are also much less powerful.
  6. Shards were already shown to rewrite spiritwebs, so maybe? She would have to somehow do it while Descending though, as you point out Shard could interfere. Alternatively, she could commit suicide, as Dragons are said to be ageless, not fully immortal.
  7. Regarding Dalinar and his connections to both Honor and Odium, as you and the WoB say, that might be 'long-term' plan, which could easily mean decades or hundreds of years. Personally I hope that never happens and it is only red-herring, we have already seen Ascension (both of person, and of CS) and dual Ascension in Mistborn. I would hope that Brandon comes up with something new and surprising. Also, I think that this 'Indirect Ascension' would not be as limited as you say. We already saw CS take up Shard (Kelsier), and he was able to do quite a bit with the power, primary limitation being near inability to affect Physical Realm. Now, if someone happened to provide CS/spren with Connection to Physical Realm, e.g. via Nahel Bond, I think this CS with Shard would be able to act much more freely in PR. And their bondmate would also 'power-up' so to speak. And we have already seen Dalinar force Stormfather to take actions, and use his powers against his will. If he were able to do that to Ascended Stormfather (possibly after strengthening/modifying the bond via Bondsmithing), Dalinar would be able to wield power on scale rivaling that of Shards without a lot of restrictions. So I would say you could end up with something that is weaker in PR than full Shard, however this entity would also be able to use their powers with fewer limitations, which could potentially be quite an advantage. Yeah, why would Koravellium search for her replacement is also something I have been struggling with. But I think @Quantus has a good point, she lost her husband, saw horrible destruction, and might possibly want to experience the one thing she could not as neither dragon nor Shard, mortality. I could see her want to live out her days as mortal, and then pass to Beyond to hopefully reunite with Tanavast. If it is possible to intentionally 'Descend', she might be able to create mortal body for herself, after all, Tanavast setup a system that automatically creates bodies for Heralds, so it should be possible for her as well. And in general I would point out that what is more in-line with Intent of Cultivation (wishing for change and shaping into desired form) than creating 'better' gods/Shard?
  8. Originally I wanted to only reply, but then I realized I don't want to hijack a thread. So this was inspired/encouraged by post by @Quantus over in Dalinar's power thread in SA forums. This is an idea that I also had few times, but never though too much about it. I would posit additional corollary, Cultivation is specifically trying to prepare vessels for the Shards in such a way that they won't be as influenced by Intent as they would be normally, and each of the three represents a different approach: Taravangian experienced great extremes of both emotion and intelligence. It is plausible that it could have been intended as sort of preparation for handling the strongly emotional and unruly power of Odium, in fact Cultivation says she hopes he will bare the power with honor. Additionally, the effect might still be in place, it was RAFOed. This represents trying to condition a Vessel into being able to handle the power. Dalinar might be a new thing in that he will not fully Ascended, but instead will Bond a Shard of Honor that will be merged with Stormfather. Corollary: This could possibly allow him to reinterpret the Intent more easily (e.g. Unity). This would be trying to get around limitation on Shards via Indirect Ascension, similar to what Dalinar did on Theyalen Fields, but on more permanent basis. Lift specifically asked to stay the same " I want to stay me. Not become someone else. ", and while she thought it would meant she won't grow older, I would posit that instead Cultivation specifically made changes that will allow her Cognitive and Spiritual aspect to be fortified against external influence (e.g. Intent of Shard). Corollary: I would posit also that not only she creates Lifelight, she specifically creates Liftlight, e.g. Lifelight aligned more with her (e.g. what Lifelight would be, had Lift held Shard). We know that holding Lights has various cognitive effects, so it would make sense to grant her ability to create Light that would not do that to her. This would trying to get around Intent by fortifying Cognitive and Spiritual Aspects of the Vessel-to-be. TL;DR: I argue that Cultivation is attempting to cultivate process of becoming a Shard in-order to create sort of Shard 2.0, one where Vessel is less influenced and bound by Intent. Each of Dalinar, Lift and Taravangian represent different approach to this problem.
  9. I like that theory! I was thinking along similar lines but thought it kind of crazy. I have elaborated on it in new thread:
  10. Chouta seems to have been becoming quite endemic 'fast food' even outside Herdazian circles by RoW, so it is plausible it could be just piece of culture Iriali brought with them. But then again, it does not have to be. Fair enough Though he has been consistent on Era 2 entirely happening in the SA gap for ~8ish years by now, confirming it as recently as 7 months ago (https://wob.coppermind.net/events/508/#e15877). This then implies that the events that possibly stranded some Horneaters in Shadesmar should be much more recent, since very few would stay 'lost' for nearly a decade.
  11. Very cool! One question, where does this come from? Because as far as I know, WoBs say that the entire Era 2 happens in the gap between the two SA series. So if anything, it should be AoL that happens after KoWT, not TLM. Additionally, in TLM we see most likely Iriali, who travel periodically, not necessarily suggesting refugees.
  12. Well, bendalloy/cadmium can manipulate time and require relatively little Investiture, if you use proper mechanism. So if Gravitation/Adhesion allows for such manipulation, then they could do it relatively cheaply. I would say it would not be through Basic Lashing, but more a new Lashing they would learn about and start using. So 'Time Lashing', the object would retain gravitational attraction, but would now have different time stream. If that would be the case, it would be targetable effect, which would be intersting.
  13. It is not 'observational issue', it fundamentally means that momentum is not conserved. It is only conserved in some preferred reference frame, however that alone breaks even just Galilean relativity, which means that not even Newtonian physics is applicable. So basically it means that when it comes to Iron Feruchemy, we can throw away literally any IRL analogue, since Iron Feruchemy breaks the most basic of assumptions (that different observers agree on what is going on ). E.g. for person on train, momentum is conserved, for person off-train momentum is not conserved, and the only way to square that circle is well, magic.
  14. Good points! So either CS are not too restricted due to Investiture comprising them, or it takes a while to take hold (like with Shards).
  15. Yep, thank you! So compared to the 'naive' scaling due Newton, 'bulletproofiness' would be actually improving even faster, most likely due to the complex interactions with the environment (e.g. hydrodynamics and what not).
  16. Sadly no, probably one of the vs. threads. But roughly the argument comes down to old Newton approximation of impact depth (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impact_depth). So basically once the human body has density of the same order as the bullet, bullet can penetrate only as about as far as its length. Since human body has density of ~1g/cm^3 and lead has about ~12 g/cm^3, increasing mass 15x means that bullet basically goes only its length inside the body. Still painful, but no life-threatening. True, perhaps storing magnitude of the momentum then? That would clear up that complication. But it still has to be the somehow tied to the reference frame of planet/solar system/galaxy, which just makes it more complicated not less :/
  17. Except that would not work. If the mass of the particles is now higher, bullet penetration would go down. I did some numbers on it in one of previous threads, and if he just ~15x his mass, even modern bullets would not penetrate more than ~3 cm or something like that. Which since he is storing all the time, he should be able to do for brief moments of being bullet proof in fight. But it is not happening, and per WoBs it cannot happen. So Iron Feruchemy breaks a lot of things. Edit: @alder24 Consider it in vacuum then. Thorneater has a point, you cannot conserve momentum like Wax describes it in different reference frames. If in frame A, Wax is moving at v_A = 10 m/s , and he drops his weight to 1/10, then his speed should increase to v_A2 = 100 m/s to conserve momentum. But an observer frame B which is moving at 5m/s with respect to frame A, and from which perspective Wax is moving only at v_B = 5 m/s, would expect that after dropping his weight to 1/10, he should start moving at v_B2 = 50m/s to preserve momentum, which is just 55m/s in frame A. So there is discrepancy there, and Iron Feruchemy is breaking principle of relativity, and we have a momentum deficit to explain. It would work far better if Iron Feruchemy stored momentum and not weight, which would also make it an interesting counterpart for Steel which stores speed or velocity. @Thorneater good point on the issue with different reference frames! I guess there must be some different kind of relativity in Cosmere that takes into account Investiture for it to work. At the end of the day though, it is fictional magic, and it will most likely never be actually consistent, despite best attempts. It will look consistent, unless you poke it too hard.
  18. Ah, true, I forgot about that Thanks! I think Shard can heal anything as long as the person has not left for Beyond, and even then it is a voluntary choice. After all, we see Sazed offering to bring back Vin and Elend, but they refused.
  19. But then they are no longer Knight. They are just regular person. Anyone who is Knight Radiant is unable to leave Rosharan system currently, they have to give up the powers. Yeah, and they both have physical forms. You did not specify 'physical form without hack'. Oh, I did not mean to imply that they are not traumatized by the age and torture. While no expert on psychology, I have some familiarity with the complications trauma can cause due to my own issues (BPD). I just wanted to point out that per Brandon major part of Heralds illness is supernatural, which we see when Ishar briefly becomes sane because Navani sworn an Ideal. If he was 'just' regularly traumatized, that would not have happened I guess. I guess it depends to what extents Investiture in CS/spren shapes them, and what flexibility is there. I expect that the restrictions on them are more lax than the ones on Shard for example. E.g. I would expect that while Kelsier can hurt, perhaps he cannot kill at the moment (or can but only as a side-effect). Ah, sorry about that. What were you discussing then, since I missed the point?
  20. I don't think I will continue to engage as I don't really appreciate your personal attacks and condescending attitude. It is okay to disagree and discuss, but I don't enjoy the rudeness. I did make some mistakes in the post, thank you for pointing them out. I should not post in a rush On the subject I will only have 3 notes: I said 'sort of lever'. Also, the try it at home was for the fact that rope is pulling the object at the end, and the object starts moving only after the rope becomes taut, not referencing the lever. So again, object at the end of rope will start moving only once the rope is under tension (or taut), before hand it will stay still. You can try this by tying a piece of string to e.g. book, leaving the string loose and then pulling on the string. I don't think the acceleration would work out like you want to, simply because we know that Pulling/Pushing gently is very hard, and here you would have to modulate strength of the pull basically continually. Even if it did, you either have to raise the hand above your head to make the movement or rotate your entire body. I don't think it would work as deterrent, If I would see someone with their hands raised, swinging it around and moving one object, I would not be really scared, more amused. Because you could not orbit more than few object like that, and they would all travel in a clump, since they follow the hand. So to even start considering whether it is possible or not, it requires the Lurcher to be able to gently push (which is hard and requires years if not decades of practice) and to move the point they are pushing from to their palm (which we have quite possibly seen only done by someone with literal centuries of experience, and that is not even confirmed). That I can agree to.
  21. Knight also cannot leave, not without breaking the Bond (https://wob.coppermind.net/events/508/#e15879). Kelsier? Heralds? That is a bit of an oversimplification, I think. Connection is necessary, it is typically to access the power. E.g. on Sel, the Connection is to place not to Shard as you state. Also, while yes, Connection is necessary for access to Invested Art, that does not imply that most of spiritweb of the people is composed of that Shard's Investiture. One does not follow from the other. We see Heralds in prologue, and they don't seem to be exhibiting the same extent of madness as they do later on. That alone suggests that their madness has gotten progressively worse over the millennia where they weren't being killed. Per this WoB (https://wob.coppermind.net/events/445/#e14135) the factors in their madness are 1) Nature as CS , 2) Perception by other people and 3) Torture. Brandon is quite clear that Heralds madness is supernatural in origin, so age and torture alone should not be the primary cause, as those are not really supernatural. Also, CS are basically pure Investiture, just like spren or Shards (https://wob.coppermind.net/events/36/#e1537), and we know Investiture has Intent and cannot be use in someways (e.g. Well could not be used to kill directly), hence CS should also be in some sense bound the Intent the Investiture that makes them up. I think we know too little about SR to be making too many statements honestly. We know that all of SR is Investiture and Connection. Connection are most likely of Investiture as well. Investiture can be coded with Identity. Hmm, but now I found this WoB (https://wob.coppermind.net/events/3/#e115) that basically states sDNA and spiritweb are similar stuff So they are not the same, but closely related. And I just confused now. Personally I will wait for Era 3/4 to speculate more on this stuff I think that is a different thing they excise in TLM, or, while related it is not the same. Also, we don't know what the Set did or did not manage to get spikes to do, only that they were not really working well or reliably. Yeah, but different muscles are also considerably different from one another, so there is a space for argument there. Yeah but my point was that two thing determine 'level' of someone with Invested art, innate power and skill. Fair enough.
  22. That I agree with. Yeah, that is true. Note thought that Navani is also in the process of forming some measure of Connection with Sibling and Radiance can be sort of retroactive thanks to SR shenanigans. So it is possible she is leveraging those abilities at least partially. But it is possible that people can be trained to hear them, like she was. That is not the issue alone though. Radiant that bonded a spren is also prevented from traveling away from system. Investiture of a Shard is strongly tied to that system and typically cannot leave like that. So either people souls are somehow special, or they are made out of amalgam of Investiture that prevents these issues. Or something else entirely. But why would individuals form Connection to resident Shard? Vast majority will never encounter the Shard, nor interact with it, at most they will come close to Shard's Investiture. While it will have some effects, I don't think they would be so strong as to eventually basically overwrite spiritweb. Which is the issue. Why thank you. It is also kinda boring some of the time. Thank you Though I recommend not taking online people at their word But you can check out wikipedia, they have relatively good explenation of these topics (and make distinction between rest mass, and matter, which is relevant here). This section could help clear some things up https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy#Conservation_of_energy_and_mass_in_transformation Well, it is kind of matter, in the same sense that everything is matter But it is not the matter as we would understand it (i.e. protons neutrons etc), and clearly exhibits un-physical (IRL) properties as can be seen from Wax's experiments. That does not confirm sDNA and spiritweb are the same thing though. No more than implanting an organ means you have the same DNA as the donor. If sDNA somehow forms spiritweb (despite timelessness of SR), then sDNA within spike would be different from the sDNA of the rest of the spiritweb. I am not convinced. Interestingly, Brandon very rarely uses sDNA anymore, most of the citations from the last several years where by other people. The only time he brings it up is when discussing heredity of Invested powers, not actually having Invested powers active within soul. In fact, existence of Allomantic lines and the fact that non-allomancer presents can have Allomancer children, implies that you can have sDNA for Allomancy (or Feruchemy) but not exhibit it. This then implies that sDNA cannot be the whole of spiritweb, because otherwise you could theoretically spike out Allomantic powers from non-allomancers, which is not the case. Oh, that is indeed quite dangerous possibly. Personally I though it would mean that you can tap that attribute back only to the body part you were storing from. Yes, but Allomancers of Era 1 were all generally stronger than Era 2, and Vin was above those of Era 1 even. I don't think being Savant would put Wax on Vin's level. Also, where was it stated that Savants get more Investiture per metal burned?
  23. I won't get anymore into it, but I will point out that typically you can affect things that are keyed to your Identity far easier than those that are not. E.g. Radiants can use their powers through Shardplate, even when Shardplate otherwise fully blocks Invested Arts. So it might be that while Stonewards cannot affect living tissue of other beings, they can still affect themselves. This would limit the power of the ability, but also nicely explain 'Stonesinew'.
  24. I don't think Avatar could become new Vessel like that, simply because Vessel would not let it happen. The only scenario I can see where it could happen is if the Avatar was much strongly aligned with Intent then current Vessel. I think there is some treshold, since Odium seems to have Invested basically against its will. So once Shard Invests enough power within system they will become part of it, whether they want or not. So equally would just result in new Invested Art, near-equally not at all, but it would be easy to push them across the line. Rhythms generally don't operate with hearing directly it seems, more 'Spiritual' sense. So in that sense no, but yes if you had appropriate power. That cannot be the case, as otherwise no one would be able to leave their home planet without issue, because Shard's Investiture is sticky. See Kelsier in TLM, and yet there are Feruchemists on Roshar. Similarly other world hoppers. Just being on a planet is not enough to be Invested by a Shard like that, unless it is part of magic system (Breaths) or necessity on the Shard end (Preservation's spark in Scadrians). Also, we know that Nightblood has Ruin's Investiture in it, which since he was made with Breaths implies that somehow either Ruin was involved (doubtful, he was imprisoned at the time), Endowment created Ruin's Investiture (against rules previously quoted) or that sentients beings souls naturally incorporate the entire width of Intents. The last one makes most sense to me, since sentient beings have capacity for any and every Intent, which means it must be somewhat in-line with their souls. I know I am finishing my PhD in mathematical physics at the moment That is why I know there is no such thing as pure energy, when matter-antimatter annihilate what happens is that other particles are created. For your examples of electron and positron they simply change into two photons. No pure energy just particles Energy is property of particles/fields. Yes, energy is property as I said. Matter has energy (which is what Einstein showed), and everything is matter (in the sense of being particles of some kind, or field excitation). As stated above, energy is just property. What Einstein showed is that mass is the same as energy, not matter. You cannot have energy alone, as it is a property (specifically one component of four-vector/of stress-energy tensor). Energy is descriptor, not a physical thing. Similarly then, what Sanderson says by that is that Investiture has energy and mass. It does not mean that Investiture is not made of particles, not anymore than it means light isnt. Also, Harmonium still is Investiture, just Investiture in physical solid form. Do we know sDNA directly maps for specific powers? Technically, Hemalurgy deals with spiritweb, not sDNA. Though what is the difference (if there is any) is not explained anywhere as far as I know. Agree to disagree then How does it get around balance restriction on Feruchemy and gets around limitations? Exactly, a lot of the difference there is skill not power. I think achieving Heightening would be possible, that is apparently effect of simply being Invested enough. Though I will mention that it would not be possible to do this by just randomly burning metal with Breath, but you would have to most likely Compound Nicrosil. I overlooked you did not specify it as nicrosil Invested with Breath. Burning regular Invested piece of metal with your Breathes simply gives you those Breathes back, there is WoB: https://wob.coppermind.net/events/120/#e8055 . So unless you are explicitly Compounding Nicrosil, you won't get anymore Breath than you started with, and it will be the same Breath.
  25. Theoretically it probably is not less, however it seems that Shard must be somewhat actively Involved to supply Investiture in such manner as all the examples worked such: Vin intentionally powered Elend Ruin intenionally powered Marsh SA spoilers: And Nahel bond alone does not seem to have mechanism to procure Investiture, so I don't think Hemalurgically stolen Bond would let you power yourself off of Ruin. I think the Avatar would have to hold such a large portion of the power, and Invest it into the planet that they would effectively cease to be Avatar, and the Shard would just relocate to that planet, Avatar fully subsumed to the original Vessel. Based on what we see in SA: That is very interesting conjecture about the pitches! I could very well see that being the case. I wonder how it would sound to someone with perfect pitch, because it could be confusing Most likely no, since all the other are immigrants from Yolen as far as we know. Hence their lineage dates back to before Shattering. Their souls are most likely mix of all the Investitures. Personally, I think only first generation of Scadrians had souls exclusive out of P+R Investiture, and the subsequent natural generations draw on others as well, though with a bit more Preservation than usual (similar to Nalthis and Breath). Technically energy is just a quality of physical object, not an object in itself. So based on that Investiture can have energy, not be energy. It would still have to be composed of something. That is exactly where I was going with that analogy, it is multiple things working in concert to achieve effect. The fact that Feruchemy is part of sDNA does not mean you magically know how to do it, it must be trained and practiced to achieve effects, like motor function. Feruchemy and sDNA are separated by scale and nature, just like somersaults and DNA are. I just think that just like you have to know what you are doing to pull of a somersault, you have to know what you are doing to practice Feruchemy. Maybe practice does factor into it, we just have not seen anyone practice as much. E.g. perhaps sufficiently practiced F-Iron ferring could store only mass of certain body parts, or F-Pewter only certain muscle groups, etc. Other arts allow similar selectness with practice (e.g. pushing/pulling on parts of metal, Surges affecting only part not whole). We already see something like it with F-Tin, which lets you store individual sense, and not just all of them at once. I would separate strength and skill. Vin is stronger allomancer (more power per unit metal burned), so she can overpower some effects (like piercing Copperclouds, or possibly hearing the well). The manifestations of Preservation and Ruin could also be intentionally for her, since they are doing it on purposes. But she could not create steel bubble like Wax can, despite Wax being weaker. So yes, I agree that Feruchemical spike won't make you 'stronger', but that does not matter for skill. Apologies I overlooked it, busy days I don't think you could, neither Compound nor create Divine Breath. One, Shards cannot create Investiture of other Shards (https://wob.coppermind.net/events/31/#e1710) and Divine Breath is a spliner (https://wob.coppermind.net/events/10/#e6539) so you cannot make it. Two, you might create something that looks like a Breaths but is made out of Preservation Investiture, which would have most likely some impact on its function (since Endowment Investiture is kinda extra sticky, but can be easily given away) so it might end up not suitable for using in Awakening.
