  1. I don't see how Grew in a direction he couldn't of by himself, or with any of his characteristics that he was known for. Almost as if he was set on a path and couldnt go another way ? Right ?
  2. The very nature of Dalinar himself. I think might - still is implied, because if she didnt intervene he 100% would of
  3. I don't see how. Given Cultivation says something along the lines of the nightwatcher being young and needing to experience humans etc, if she had regularily bonded humans she wouldnt need to do this, least that how i see it, clearly you see it differently.
  4. As above the nightwatcher having any number of bondsmiths doesn't negate my theory does it?
  5. Where does it say Cultivation changed very little in Dalinar ? You think this because Cultivation says she "pruned Dalinar" "Pruning is a horticultural and silvicultural practice involving the selective removal of certain parts of a plant, such as branches, buds, or roots. The practice entails targeted removal of diseased, damaged, dead, non-productive, structurally unsound, or otherwise unwanted tissue from crop and landscape plants" as can see above "pruning" implies large changes, leading to designed growth.
  6. Could of just had one bondsmith when BAM gave the parsh forms of power, or had two after Odium unmade BAM, so i don't see that fact as an impediment to my theory. Well BAM did "bond" with all the parsh in order to give them forms of power. We have seen enlightened spren manifest different powers in the radiants then normal radiant spren, so easy to see how a unmadd bondsmith spren would have different powers then regular bondsmith spren. BAM did form a connection through all the parsh, which would fit
  7. My personal theory is BAM used to be a bondsmith spren, and was "unmade" by Odium. BAM was either a sliver of Cultivation, or a daughter of Cultivation/Honour or Cultivation/Odium imo. This is based purely on when Dalinar goes to the nightwatcher and Cultivation says something along the lines of the nightwatcher being young and how she leaves him/her play the boon bane things with humans to help him/her understand humans. If nightwatcher was originally a Bondsmith spren then wouldnt need to do that When BAM gave the parsh forms of power, this could of been what voidbinding was
  8. Yes it is 2 arcs, but of the same story, the story is a 10 book series. But look ok you can count it as 2 5 book series, or 3 triollogies and a standalone or however you want, but its a 10 book series. Correcting someone who says a 10 book series is just pedantic, and pointless.
  9. Except Alloy of law isn't book 4 of the mistborn series. Its a 10 book series with a time jump after book 5.
  10. Thats still a 10 book series. With regard to the OP's, i agree that having T-Odium be the big end reveal in book 4, it is unlikely he will disappear by end of book 5. So logical assumption is Dalinar loses or Taravangian does something to make reneague on there agreement thus freeing him from the Rosharion system. although given the future of the cosmere is a "space opera" i think it makes narrative sense for T-Odium to win, spend 5/10 years consolidating power, then launch on offensive againt the rest of the cosmere, to "save" everyone. Personally i hope the above happens, Dalinar winning would mean next 5 books in the series would be narratively restricted like you say
  11. Well hopefully it is, if its dragged out to the end of the book would be disappointing
  12. I actually find it quiet surprising how few people see this in relation to Dalinar, most seem to think Cultivation did very little to him, and his "growth" after that interaction is just Dalinar. But you are correct in saying, changes in people throughout history has been down to random outside changes. But just don't see how people rewrite the narrative on Dalinar to tye degree we see here
  13. He didnt grow into an honourahle man, no. Cultivation took away everything that made him how he was, leaving the "good" parts of Dalinar, who Evi says she sees inside him. Removing all the negative things about Dalinar left him as the man capable of being honourable. Without this intervention, that wouldnt of happened. Hence why i say it isnt personal growth but a remaking/unmaking/reforging etc Exactly, hence why isnt personal growth, was outside influences
  14. Giving up Oathbringer was honourable, i never said Dalinar was unhonourable, what i said was he is honourable and dishonourable an even amount of the time. And the Dalinar who leaves cultivation is same Dalinar who we meet in WoK, with the additional life experiences the intervening 6/7 years gave him. And that life experience, those choices would not of been the same had he never gone to cultivation So essentially they are same person.
  15. As i mentioned earlier, being on honourahle lighteyes isn't hard, because the rest aren't remotely honourable, given Amaram eventually succeeds to that title that alone proves that. As for Dalinar, after cultivation prunes him, he is the same person as we meet in WoK - Yes. Albeit with the additional experience of the intervening 6/7 years. And yes the choices he made in those 6/7 years wouldnt of been in no way the same choices had cultivation not intervened. Because as you say she didnt take his memory, she took away/hid away everything that upto Evi's death made him that way (the despot) and took away everything that made him who he was after Evi's death, (the drunk who didnt wanna fight) Now i personally think cultivation made Dalinar into the man Evi always said he could be. "By taking away the darkness" I might he wrong. So there wasnt personal growth on Dalinars part, there was an unmaking. Because simply put if somehow you remove all your negative characteristics and only the good remain then you aren't the same person. Yes you can say he stopped drinking - his reason for it was taken away Yes you can say he stopped being a horrible father - his reasons for it/what made him that were taken away So i don't see personal growth. But an unmaking.
  16. I think this option going forward would prove the most interesting narratively. And give the most scope going forward.
  17. Valid point, but Dalinar was about to go to the centre of shattered plains to break the parshindi, highprinces had already aligned with him or against him, taking Amarams blade wouldn't of changed that. Agree the others had larger issues to contend with, but Dalinar as a man of honour as you say, surely should of told him his son killed Sadeas, instead he hides it. No, because he has his memories back. But the Dalinar we first meet, is the same as the one we see after cultivation prunes him. Because im pretty sure Cultivation makes him the man Evi thought he could be
  18. By middle of OB, who killed Sadeas isnt mentioned, long before the betrayal, while i agree after the betrayal, less likely people will care Sadeas was murdered, but still strange was never mentioned, no one held account for it etc. What Kaladin wanted was retribution not remotely the same as vengence. Kinda answeree this qbove but was about the identity of Sadeas murderer See i think she did alot more then take away Evi as you put it, she took away everything bad that made him who he was. No point i was making is, if Dalinar had taken Amarams blade any number of things could of happemed and listed a few possible things that could of for reference We will go back and fourth on this one forever so think time to calls a spade a spade here before we go in circles with it and agree to disagree
  19. Nothing was said before the betrayal either Same as what happened anyway. But if he had taken Amarams blade, maybe Sadeas never gets killed, mayhe Sadeas sees Dalinar is back to the blacktorn, maybe Sadeas falls into line, maybe not, maybe civil war starts, , with Dalinar faction in Urithruu and Sadeas in the warcamps, where easy targets for fused ? How long you think civil war would last ? Not long id say, but no way to know all of the what ifs that could of happened
  20. Sure, when was it referenced in RoW ? Or by any highprince since the murder originally happened ? He wasnt a highprince at the time, just a landed lighteyes and recent shard bearer. Because was swept "under the rug" by Dalinar Heartstone wouldnt be destroyed if Kaladin killed Roshone, or took his power within the town away etc I don't think at any point in this entire conversation have we disagreed what Honour is, so unsure what you are talking about. Dalinar didnt have personal growth, he didnt accept his problems, work through them, and come out the other side, they were removed, ergo no personal growth.
  21. If i recall correctly, he was about to leave on the expedition to the centre of the shattered plains, the highprinces has already seperated into 2 factions, Amaram belonged to Sadeas, who had set himself opposite Dalinar, so while would of caused a stir, def would not iof caused civil war esp as things turned out how they did. Sadeas murder was forgotten about, imnsure taking the shards from his vessel would of been. Guess i kinda answered this above really Can you show him battling the need to drink ? (Before gets his memories back), one line is indication to you ? Agree about the culture, but it it irrelevant to Kaladins lack of action with regard Roshone, esp since Kaladin wasn't thinking along those lines, his thoughts were "i know real evil now, Roshone is just a petty lighteyes" well that petty lighteyes still is the person ultimately responsible for your brother dying in your opinion so you would still want retribution,
  22. Shardblade to the throat. As i said yes would cause a stir, yes would set a precedent, but cause civil war ? No i dont think so, Still a drunk ? No he wasn't, his reason for drinking was taken away, his need for drinking was taken away so no he wasnt. Same with the children, reasons why he was how he was were all taken away. But if he didnt work on himself and was just made better like Dalinar was ? To be fair wouldnt of taken much time to deal with Roshone, and was clear Laural could of handled things as well. Moash is an unfortunate character in alot of ways,
  23. Sorry now, but wanting retribution against the person you hold ultimately responsible for the death of your brother is far from petty. Its 100% normal. Regardless of what else is going on Same for Moash in relation to his grandparents,
  24. He could easily of made him gove up his shardblade in order to ensure Amaram stood trial, don't see how that would cause civil war, would cause a stir and perhaps add fuel to the fire of Sadeas arguments, but civil war ? Don't think so None taken, and far from short sighted, if live a code of honour, you can't turn it off an on, thats my point, if you think you can then your misguided in that opinion. There was options Dalinar had but didnt take because "not how its done" whereas he should of set the prescedent. Besides, if a shardbearer was to stand trial the obvious thing to do is take away hes shards, its actually basic common sense, doesn't require q lot of in depth thought to come to that conclusion. Considering how unhonourable the Athleti are, the barometer for Dalinar isnt very high What pain ? When everything that made him who he was, was gone ? And all that was left was his good side, anything that could lead to Dalinar becoming who he was again was taken away, he didn't do anythinh to become who he became, So if same happenee Amaram, you would love him, even knowing what he did? Dalinar experienced no personal growth between going to the nightwatcher and OB when hes menories come back. Saying otherwise is rewriting the narrative. Thats the thing Dalinar isn't all that honourable, look back at before he went to the nightwatcher, and since he got his memories back, how many honourable things did he do ? Look back at while he was pruned, and see how many honourable things he did, then genuinely look for the dishonourable ones and will balance out, take the blinders off and actually look.
