Harmony wants to Resurrect Vin
Quick Ben replied to Thaidakar the Ghostblood's topic in Cosmere Discussion
While I agree Vin won't be Harmonies sword, and also agree its Wax. Won't Wax be seriously outmatched against practically anyone he might be put up against ? At least at present. Wax vs awakener - awakener wins Wax vs elantrian - elantrian wins Wax vs radiant - radiant wins Even a full mistborn would lose against each if the above most likely I know Wax has access to by the bands of morning but if I recall they nearly ran out, and yes I know they can be replenished but doesn't seem like that would be as easy do as say. Given the conflicts on scandrial -
I was originally introduced to fantasy like many others through the Lord of the Rings by Tolkien, as such holds a special place in the genre for me, Ursula le guins wizard of earth sea series as well. Read most of Goodkinds books too, but imo he went downhill as series progressed. Iv never read the wheel of time, tried the first book and was all to cliche for me by the time I read it to proceed more then half way through the book. Favourite Top 3 as below: 1. Steven Eriksen - no one does epic fantasy like he does, from the setting to the characters no author/series comes close. 2. Tolkien - Lord of the rings is epic in every sense of the word. So much so other authors have been robbing elements of it since was wrote ( Christopher Paolini for example) 3. Mark Lawrence - his debut novel a prince of thorns was fantastic, and so was the series, writes a very gritty type of fantasy. Worthy mention - GrrM - Rothfuss (both probably round out top 5 if had finished there series) - David Daglish - writes pretty quick paced entertaining reads, I enjoy Sandersons books but OB and ROW have really let stormlight down (after great start in tWoK and WoR) in my opinion and mistborn is more a YA type read,

Will Kaladin say the 5th ideal?
Quick Ben replied to Maddie The Survivor's topic in Stormlight Archive
The difficulties in Kaladin ascending are the same as for Dalinar, and everyone assumes Dalinar will, when in essence there is no reason to be believe he will ascend over Kaladin. The fleet story could of well foreshadowed Kaladin ascending, I was mainly just saying Kaladin ascending over Dalinar wouldnt be a twist as has been hinted at -
Will Kaladin say the 5th ideal?
Quick Ben replied to Maddie The Survivor's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don't see how Kaladin becoming Honours new Vessel would be a twist, dispite the popular narrative on the shard i think Kaladin becoming Honour is more likely then Dalinar and narratively within the books he is much closer to honour then Dalinar ever would be. Although how you imagine it coming about could very well happen. -
As i mentioned in my original reply, it wasnt me you were even talking to.....but yoi ignored that fact, Here is the definition of pruned for you: cut away (a branch or stem) from a tree, shrub, etc. reduce the extent of (something) by removing superfluous or unwanted parts. to cut off or cut back parts of for better shape or more fruitful growth prune the branches. intransitive verb. : to cut away what is unwanted or superfluous The terminology used in my opinion shows more was done then "just memories" taken,. If you disagree then good for you, but reading between the lines, and using the differences in Dalinar before and after Cultivation in my opinion you can see that more then 2 memories were taken, Thats just where we disagree so, Unless im mistakem, fromnthe second he is leaving the valley he decides doesn't need alcohal, which would imply hes need for it is gone. As i said to frustration i just don't agree with that sentiment. By cutting away the "bad parts" you direct the plant or in this case person, how to grow. Unsure why moderator needs to approve what i post now

Meant compass. Apologies. Some acts in my opinion are irredemable, by your argument every despot throughout history is redeemable as long as they are contrite, i just don't agree. Yes it counts, but he wasn't helped in that way, the need was removed, which is different. And i agree he grew in in those 6 years, but he i still maintain he grew in the way/direction Cultivation "pruned" him to grow. The evidence to that is the definition of the word pruned. 100% agree
-
If you think mass murder of innocents is redeemable then i don't know what to say As per the above, and in reality it is a fact, you would need a moral compose pretty screwed to believe someone who commited mass murder of innocents is redeemable. By anyones standards i would hope. Growth directed by Cultivation, wasn't really personal growth, when that growth was directed. I think its pretty clear he would of. Yes she took memories, do ye believe just taking those memories, effected all the change in Dalinar ? Personnally i don't, i think she removed/blocked out the things making him the man in those memories, thus what i mean when i say took his motivations, if don't agree thats fine, but imo if read between the lines that is what she did. She "pruned" away the negative aspects making him who he was, then directed his growth, like with a plant you use a stick to guide its growth how you want. And yes he stopped drinking - because the reason he needed to was gone... This is only my second or third post in this thread so you seem to be confusing me with someone else, Sorry if missed points that were made, but on mobile so awkward. Also ye are all entitled to ye're opinion on Dalinar, just remember so am i.

Finding the need to comment on Dalinar again, as see alot of people. 1. Cutting Dalinar too much slack, for what he did. 2. Attempting to say Dalinar changed mostly by himself (completly wrong). Facts are this: Dalinar has not been redeemed - he never can be Dalinar would of become Odiums champion without Cultivations intervention (he nearly did anyway). Cultivation took alot more then "just memories" saying thats all that was taken is misleading in the extreme. She took memories ya, but she also took his motivations for being who he had been, she effectively hit reset on who he was as a person, and left an empty vessel which could be filled different to how he had been. Dalinar wasn't pruned he was unmade, The differences between Dalinar pre nightwatcher and the Dalinar we first encounter are so stark doesn't seem the same person, why ? Cultivation - so was alot more then "memories" she took, Dalinar only gets this slack from people because of how he is when first meet him, the first ideal of radiance is : Journey before destination - Dalinar didn't do this. Everyone hates Amaram and Moash (alot of Moashs actions are perfectly understandable), yet there crimes pale in comparison to Dalinars, why the different treatment for them ?
-
Neglect is abuse, People always seem to be too willing to cut Dalinar slack, Dalinar wasn't seeking to redeem himself or atone for what he had done, what he wanted was forgiveness without redeeming or atoning for what he done (not that he can) If he had been offered the same thing as Moash, he would of took it then.
-
This is a good point. Seems likely enough that, in some cases a radiants 5th ideal will supercede the other oaths. This is definetly the case with Szeth, so Dalinars could follow suit, if he makes it to the 5th that is.
-
Consodering Rayse was grooming Dalinar long before radiants started appearing in Roshar again that isn't true. Rayse would of took him with or without the stormfather. Taravangian on the other hand ? Wouldn't of even made the deal with Dalinar so don't think he cares either way
-
My thought process on that was a bit abstract. When take 2 shards and combine them, we or at least I, tend to add them or substract them, hence why ruin + preservation becomes harmony (subtracted) or odium + honour becomes conflict/zealot, (addition) its like 1 - 1 = 0, or 1 + 1 = 2. Its linear. When comes to Odium + Honour + Cultivation if you follow along that line, you would find yourself at treachery, malice or abhorrence maybe. But the sum of the individual parts doesn't necessarily equal the combination of shards intent. So 1 + 1 + 1 ≤/≥ 3 Which is pretty much the definition of synergy. This could apply to any groupings of shards however. I guess its more how i think the interaction one work rather then a name for a shard itself really.

[Theory] Taln Wasn't the Herald Who Broke; It Was Chanarach
Quick Ben replied to teknopathetic's topic in Cosmere Discussion
No he doesn't, he said Taln has joined the other 9 in Roshar and that in the time Taln held the oathpact none of the heralds died -
In my opinion: Oduim and Honour should be Conflict or Zealot. Honour and Cultivation - integrity Cultivation and Odium - malevolence Honour/Cultivation/Odium - Synergy

Odium's way out of the contract, from his point of view
Quick Ben replied to Crossen's topic in Stormlight Archive
War still doesn't make sense, in the situation above the more likely name would be conflict or zealot. -
If its on kindle just go into the book, and search for the word, says up the top how many times it appears

Odium's way out of the contract, from his point of view
Quick Ben replied to Crossen's topic in Stormlight Archive
I know thats what it says in the book, just don't think it makes sense, esp when people reference the Odium and Honour shard combining to make a War shard -
Odium's way out of the contract, from his point of view
Quick Ben replied to Crossen's topic in Stormlight Archive
I might be the only one, but i fail to see how Odium + Honour = War. -
Pinnacle is another word for crown, and he jumps off the pinnicle of Urithiru....a stretch but would work for your theory. Guess could be Dalinar excepting the Oath rather then the stormfather too ?
-
While i don't agree with @Bejardin1250 about the child champion, i do agree with him that if Todium gets Dalinar to renege on the contract that frees Todium from the Rosharan system, since Dalinar represents Honour in this
-
One thing to note in this discussion is Todium says something along the lines of "oh i see how to beat Dalinar, so subtle" when he is reviewing the deal Rayse made. So the way he thinks he can beat Dalinar is subtle, or something done very very subtly. Given that i think an obvious champion can be ruled out, which rules out majority of theories Also i think the way Todium saw to beat Dalinar doesn't necessarily refer to the contest at all, at end of the day win or lose, Todium is trapped in Rosharan system, so ideally for Todium he would want a way to get Dalinar to renege on the contract, thus setting Todium free while also getting hin Dalinar as a fused. Also i think narratively, for the back 5 books, it makes sense for Dalinar to lose.
-
She would be willing to be the champion, albeit under duress, If being Odiums champion cant include being tricked or threatened etc then just leaves El or Nale,
-
Why not Navani for Odiums champion ? Shes already shown shes willing to work with the enemy, Dalinar would have a hard time fighting her, So Odium somehow gets Gavinor, and threatens to kill him unless Navani consents to be his champion, could also fulfill that deathrattle everyone assumes to be about the contest of champions (although personnally i don't think it does). I know its far fetched but could be a good angle to go
-
I have one issue with this theory. Highlighted below. No matter how the contest of champions end, the result is there is a "ceasefire" between the two sides, hostilities end, so the "gain us further breath to draw" doesn't actually stack up with what the outcome would be. So i don't see how that death rattle applies to the contest at all.
-
You could argue that point, but unless im mistaken she never once asks ? Silver lining ? Colluding with the enemy is a silver lining ? Also it is all she thinks about while researching/creating anti-light, She colluded with the enemy, gave them the means to kill radiants once and for all and she wasnt wrong to do it ?
