Fantasy Authors' Guild

Ah yes. this exists. What has been happening with you lot? -
I have been assured by people who have posted their work on here that publishers will ask you to delete anything and everything. they do see it as publishing your own. it's stupid, but that is how they view it. Agreed. It is also very useful to see how a reader reacts to certain scenes and characters. Eh, that number is thrown around a lot, and it really isn't, it's a lot more likely than people realize. Yes, practice makes perfect, keep trying, you'll get it down eventually A PM would be able to do basically the same thing but wouldn't piss off publishers. I posted my stuff here and then had them deleted, and he will have to do the same, if he wants to publish it.

if you thought of it, BS thought of it. Finish it all and then come back to gush. We'll be waiting.

Did... Did you forget I have a Captain? Block. -
Someone had the same idea as Cultivation
Aspiring Writer replied to KSub's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The example he he used was about Atium burners, which does not have this effect. -
Yeah, I do recommend trying it out, it might end up working for you, if that's what you're looking for, but I will still warn you that they aren't the type to discuss problems or provide suggestions. They will do a decent job of pointing out issues and help clean your writing, though.

No, i do not remeber that, unless you mean the end scene of hero of ages where everyone was an atium burner and would be haveing future sight. -
Someone had the same idea as Cultivation

That's not how it works, you can't tell that person's future, but you can still see everyone else's. -
Okay, this is a long one. Sorry, it took so long, was working out all the kinks with a friend of mine. So this magic system has to do with the manipulation of the mind, but it isn't completely restrained to that as telekinesis is in this, and that technically isn't manipulating the mind but the mind manipulating its surroundings. Note, skills that are normal are easy to learn and all users with any skill should be expected to be able to use them; skills italicized are more advanced and will only be seen by experienced users, Skills in bold are expert and very few individuals will be seen using them. Bolded letters in skills not bolded means this is a more advanced application of that skill. Note- Users of these abilities will have an increased mental capacity. Telekinesis- So I had telekinesis in my previous magic system, but this one differs slightly. There is still a weight limit to what you can pick up and you cannot pick up users capable of telekinesis, but the weight limit is no longer a set amount and is connected to how much you weigh, or more accurately the mass you have. So an obese person will be able to lift much more than a starved person. Another difference is that the telekinesis is more like a muscle than the telekinesis in my space magic system. While not mention, in my previous telekinsis, if you tried picking something beyond your weight limit, you would just not be able to pick it up. In this, however, you can overexert yourself and lift more than what you are supposed to be able to, but this will cause headaches and pain and even blackouts. Another and final difference is that the strength of the user's telekinesis is connected to your emotions, and can strengthen during times of extreme emotions, giving them incredible telekinetic strength (Though I will note strong, nearly uncontainable emotions can hinder the use of other powers). If strong enough, the user can even pick up other users of telekinesis. Telepathy- Okay, so telepathy is really broad with many different levels of expertise, and I also made it it's own little combat system, so I will be listing these down as subtopics/powers of telepathy. Telepathy- The obvious part of telepathy, you can communicate in other people's minds and read their immediate thoughts. Note that thoughts intended for you you hear no matter what whereas thought unintended for you will have to actively try and hear them. (Intended being someone who wants to communicate with you telepathically. This person does not need to be a telepath themselves to try and send their thoughts toward you.) There is a range to this. Empathic- User can sense and manipulate other people's emotions. There is a more advanced part of this skill that you emit an influence on people's view or feelings of something is, making them view something in a way they normally wouldn't, or even taking away all emotion entirely and leaving them empty, putting them in a trance-like state. Empathic range is larger than telepathic range. Mind link- So a user can link several minds together so they can communicate telepathically (therefore letting two nontelepaths communicate telepathically). This link can be formed by multiple users and each user would have to be rendered unconscious or dead before the link falls, however, it is possible to separate individuals from the link using multiple users. The Mind Link can be used to carry telepathic effects across the entire group like a Mind Wall and Illusions (See Below) Mind Wall- A Mind wall is a protection telepaths can use to block unwanted telepathic effects. A Mind Wall can be overpowered by multiple users and broken, and it will take time before you can put up another. A Mind Wall can be shared over a mind link, but is weakened with every additional person and becomes easier to break. (So every user has 1 unit of the mental wall. If shared with one other person, the mental wall for both is 0.9. if shared amongst five, it becomes 0.5. User can break any wall below one by themselves, but the stronger it is, the longer it takes before it breaks.) Multiple users can share their mental wall with one person and giving that person a stronger mental wall. You need to be conscious to have a mental wall up. Illusions- You can put images in other peoples' heads, making them see what you want them to see or using their own thoughts/expectations to make the illusion. You can give the illusion a life of its own by making it react with other people's expectations. These illusions do not carry mass, as they are simply constructs of the minds, but you can incite feelings to make the illusion seem more real. This will also affect the user, though they can concentrate to exclude them or other individuals from seeing or being affected by the illusion. Illusions carried through a Mind Link will stay on without your attention and will give a little control to the person wearing the illusion. Sensations- You can cause people to have headaches and/or nausea. You can also make people feel certain sensations like pain (As in, you were stabbed in the gut, you can make everyone else feel like they were stabbed in the gut. This can be called upon by memories of the experience, but the intensity of the sensations depends on how clear and vivid the memory is.) Non-users can use something similar to this as a defense against telepathy by remembering something painful and then forcing the telepath to experience it. Prediction- telepaths can read a person's mind and emotions and learn to predict what they will say or do before they do. This is more a skill using multiple previous abilities in a certain way. This is not always accurate. Memory Manipulation- A user can read another person's memories by searching through their mind. They can also remove memories, which is permanent and cannot be reversed, but takes time. You can also create memories from a mixture of your own, the person's, and other memories/experiences you have from others. Note that when reading a person's memories that memories get worse over time, fading away and becoming distorted or unclear (Like actual memories.) Memories also change and may not reflect reality and cannot always be trusted. (Small example is someone remembering someone's shirt as red and green with snowflakes when they just wore a green shirt.) User Mind Manipulation- User can manipulate their own mind to ignore sensations like pain. They can also speed up their own thoughts/mental speed, enhancing their other abilities. Mind Control- User can take over a person's mind and control over them. They can control them using general commands and making them execute it, gaining less control but needing less concentration, or through direct control of every movement for better control at the cost of much more concentration. Every addition person being controlled requires more concentration. (With general mind control, you can control multiple people and make them follow a command, but this will come at the cost in you can't control how that is executed, while direct control means you can control certain individuals very precisely.) So, if you have any suggestions for additions to this (It has to be mind related), or you want to ask questions or poke holes, feel free to. I respond to every single one.

What is your magical color?
Aspiring Writer replied to The Unknown Medallion's topic in Creator's Corner
Purple is the color of gods. I still don't understand why I fell in love with it, but it's beautiful. -
Ah yes, hello. Someone should have pinged me about this question. So, yes, putting it on here will make problems with trying to get this published. I had posted several chapters and then asked Aon Ene to delete them because of that. I ended up doing two things. One, I ended up sending my writing to a Writing Workshop on the shard called Reading Excuses, however, while I will say to check it out, I don't recommend joining it and going for literally any other writing group in the history of the world. My experience there was less than ideal, and while I will not deny they did help my writing in certain areas, it is not something noteworthy by any means and they are very hostile to discussions or questions and do not try and help in providing solutions to problems. The second thing I did was get anyone interested in my story into a PM and sent it there. PMs do not show on google searches and are private, so it's a way of getting around that. Just leave some post saying to ping you on here or your homepage or something. A third option that I did not consider but am going to test is posting something and then editing it out. So you can post whatever you want here and edit it all away. I shall test it now. Edit: Okay, gimme a minute, seems google searching your stuff only works for topics and not post. be back. Edit: Nope never mind, editing your post does not work, however, this means that you cannot google search anything responding to topics, so if you want to post on Creator's Corner safely, make a topic where you will post you chapters, then double post and constantly edit that one post. When you want to get rid of it, you can edit it all out, or even hide it.

Someone had the same idea as Cultivation
Aspiring Writer replied to KSub's topic in Cosmere Discussion
What precisely are you asking? If you're asking if Shards are granting specific people powers to manipulate events, that's literally how shards do everything, so yes others have done so. If you're asking if shards are making servants for a very specific moment and/or purpose, then also yes, we see Preservation do that, however, this kind of planning seems limited to Shards with immense future sight, of which we know three, Cultivation, Endowment, and Preservation. (Does Harmony have superior future sight?) -
Coup Game 2: Chasmgoat Wins!
Aspiring Writer replied to Whysper's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
No worries just wanted to speed the game up a little. Besides, pretty sure you would have died after one turn. Also, I convert Chasmgoat Coins-7 Cards-2 -
Ithink shards can have more than one color, because honor is normally blue, but I've seen quite a few yellow depictions.
-
Agreed. She is very blunt when compared to pattern.
-
I doubt it will be replaced by the affection of the relationship, more likely overcome. I'm not a big shipper either, I just hated the ship name being used. (It's almost as bad as Travangian. I can never remember how it's spelled, much less pronounced.)
-
Certainly understand the sentiment, though I admit my position is slightly more reserved. There are still things he could do to make me hate him more. Amaram has earned more of my contempt than Trav, for example.
-
Okay, I had forgotten that line. Yeah, Trav bad. That crosses my line of questionable morality.
-
Wait, what? Where was this? I don't remember this. ...agreed. i agree threats are manipulation, but I think Trav would just make the spren hate the humans and join him considering many did consider doing so. There is nothing saying that this will be his approach considering Trav seems to be more of a planner than anything.
-
I agree that on my darker days, fading into the void seems relieving, and often what I hope happens at the end of the line. Mood heavily dictates which I find more appealing.
-
... That is actually pretty fair, yeah, I agree. It's not like Odium died and an unknown henchmen ascended into his place, Taravangian was around longer, we have seen more his story, motives, and capabilities, and he was basically in his lowest point before ascending. Subsuming is definitely how i would describe it. I would say that it seems pretty foreshadowing that he will be having a far longer and lasting effect, so it would be a bit quick to kill him, and the fact there are five other books gives BS the liberty to give the antagonist a victory, which is something I like seeing. Well, he wanted to save as many as possible, and when it was clear he couldn't, he decided to save what he could, that being the kingdom he ruled, which is all he could speak for. It's made clear he couldn't speak for the entire world as he wasn't really allowed to speak for them, like how Odium no longer had control over his Regals. Well, that would be difficult to do, but on principle, I still think there's an argument for it. he knew these would give him hints of the future, so he had decent reasons, and he made sure to try and pick patients that he couldn't help, so he didn't kill anyone that wasn't going to die eventually. Why do you say this? Um, again, what makes you say this? He could easily manipulate them rather than use threats.
-
I know, right? I swear, their names are difficult even before combining them.

Coup Game 2: Chasmgoat Wins!
Aspiring Writer replied to Whysper's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Ugh. Why? @Koloss17 hey buddy, you wanna take Windrunner's place? -
So, if the Sibling was corrupted, would they have been able to use all three kinds of light and make a mixture of it? Or would it have made them fully Odium's and they can't use any other light?
-
That makes no sense, the fact he is new to the power means it's intent hasn't taken hold, which means it is the best time for him to act. It would be weird for him to die in what will basically be his prime. Also, narratively, it is not a good idea to replace your replacement of an antagonist so soon.
