So the story between salus and queen sah seems to imply that queen sah was a bond Smith, since she was able to crate a magical agreement with a “god” that was rendered null when the terms were violated. however I also thought of two other interpretations 1. the three moons represent the three bondsmith spren nomen stormfather, salus is the night watched and the wise sister is the sibling (with the sibling this theory becomes a little thin) and maybe the salus character is a bondsmith of the night watcher 2. the three moons represent honor, odium and cultivation, this makes very little sense though since odiums gender woudl have had to be switched which I’m skeptical of since as bondsmith sah woudl know of odium.

I agree with this assessment and honestly I think this is setting kaladin up as a potential world hopper just like shallan, In fact thinking about it was that could ultimately be the end result of kaladins character arc. By potentially accepting that he has done what he can for the people of roshar and leaving to go off and help others in other places, sounds kinda fantastical since I’m sure he is gonna die but still. I’m very intrigued about the reasons kaladin is becoming cosmere aware
-
Sounds awesome, I’d love to read that, just kaladin and leshwi

I wonder if kaladin could beat zahel with the syl spear and using all his powers, I guess actually using all his powers would be very unfair since kaladin is basically unkillable by any weapon zahel has, so I guess a practice match but with all powers, I think it would be something like 50/50 or 40/60 either way

I just realized syl would be so much fun worldhopping her general fascination with the world around her could very well make for a very fun read. I’ve always wanted syl to learn how to read if kaladin won’t Because it just seems like it would be so useful to have officers with scribes attached as spren. i also think it would be fun even if a little out of character if maybe syl became something of a scholar, I mean imagine how unstoppable the team of kaladin and syl would be if they went around the cosmere syl studying stuff and kaladin just beating stuff up, I’d read that honestly. Though in fairness kaladins and syls relationship is my favorite, they wouldn’t even be my favorite in isolation but together they are amazing. I like them especially more then the other spren bonds because honestly most of them seem pretty boring and one dimensional with the possible exception of wyndle who like syl seems like a human person but is also a bit boring.

That’s actually a good point and very well what this chapter coudl he implying, I’ve seen people suggest that kaladin could become a new herald and be reaped in braise during the gulf between books 5 and 6, this may imply that theory especially with all the talk of type 2 entities and the heralds being that. but I imagine there had to be a reason that shallan and kaladin were chosen, another point is can radiants die of old age, if stormlight heals you back to your mental image of yourself wouldn’t you always remain the same age.

I find it interesting that both kaladin and shallan are becoming cosmere aware, it’s obviously being done in ways that fit their characters more. shallan now has limited knowledge of many worlds and will continue to try to learn more about them. kaladin is inquisitive and having seen what zahel can do and not been given a clear answer will likely continue to ask questions maybe even talking to jasnah or shallan about it. basically these 2 characters seem to have been chosen for some reason to become more cosmere aware, which is interesting for kaladin because I was sure he was going to die.(specifically by the end of book five)

I really thought it was hilarious how leshwi was like nope lezian you cDNA that Kaladin he killed me first so he is mine. Personally I really want at least an interlude chapter from her POV to explain Her thoughts.

Kaladins and leshwi’s relationship moving forward
Valigus replied to Valigus's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yeah it was interesting and frustrating I feel like we are getting tantalizing hints and nothing concrete Another thing is I think kaladin is legitimately unique in some way when it comes to his skill and other factors, seeing as how all the fused dismisses out of hand the idea that he killed lezian with no powers at this point i feel like Brandon wants us to be invested in the ship, he Is actively encouraging it and frankly yeah the way she constantly seems to be working to protect kaladin without potentially realizing is like neon glowing ship this sign, and Brandon has to know this- 35 replies

I think the most interesting take away from this for me isn’t one others may think of but it’s kaladin and at least his perception in that he is unique, the fused seem to have never seen anyone like him before, they don’t even seem to consider that kaladin could be skilled enough to kill lezian without powers and find it more likely for him to have shardplate then be able to do that. That indicates A level of skill they have never seen before and coupled with leshwi’s fascination with kaladin makes me think something about him is unique in all the desolations some part of his skill and the way he has managed to redound a radiant order quite successfully without any help and the fact that even the fused seem to be aware of his growing legend. also I desperately want a leshwi pov chapter, I really want to know what’s driving her fascination with kaladin

I disagree on some ways I think it’s parallels to stone shamanism are too obvious to ignore. but I think you miss the significance of the white hair it tells us who the girl is, it’s ash. I think while it does make sense to carry metaphorical and emotional significance Brandon seems to very often have hoid tell stories that are both metaphorically true and hunt at dealer truths but also have real word implications. For example fleet is both a emotionally recent story to kaladin and also clearly true in some historical context because multiple people see him striding through the storm. but if the wall is shinovars mountains or the barrier between roshar and ashyn then the heralds must be alive as normal people at this point I think it unlikely to be ashyn due to no mention of any catastrophe. we also know ash was either born on ashyn and crossed at a very young age or was born on roshar. so the idea is either ash somehow breaks into the cognitive realm and gets to roshar as a young girl or crosses the mountains of shinovar. I think it’s the latter considering the complacency of the people If they just crossed over form a dying world I doubt they woudl really want to expand at the moment, but childish curiosity wouldn’t care especially if she knew nothing of where they came from. additionally shallan constantly superimposes herself on the girl but when doing so the girls hair changes white without her meaning to, this is the worst evidence but ash is the Lightweavers herald so there is a connection. this is a terrible way of explaining it but the evidence and logic of the story lines up too neatly your interpretation is interesting but if there is a historical truth to this story I find it more likely to be about ash, because idk why a story about parshmen woudl have been told to hoid or one about his own past that doesn’t make sense
-
I’m almsot certain it’s about ash, I put a post about this theory but it makes too much sense
-
Thanks, I mean it makes sense considering the girl who looked up is very very likely about humans in shinovar and the time period where this coudl have happened must be small assuming it’s the first time someone left and ash fits that plus is the herald of the Lightweavers the order shallan belongs to and the story is a reflection of shallan. The coincidences just keep mounting and it’s making it kinda convincing

Is the girl who looked up about ash? I just thought of this possibility but it seems possible. to my understanding right the heralds except ash are all from ashyn with ash having either come over young or been born on roshar, this means that the girl who looked up only makes sense if it happens very soon after arriving on roshar which means ash is around and considering the similarities between Shallan and the girl that’s constantly implied when the story is told is it possible it’s ash? another hint to this is that while shallan is showing pattern the story the image of the girl has her hair turn white without shallan intentionally doing so. The same color as ash’s hair. so after the story and even before hoid tells kaladin of fleet people see an inhuman shape striding through the highstorms, this appears to be fleet, but what is he. Hoid claims to have never told the story of fleet before and every time someone sees it they kinda ignore it, so why has the story seemingly fallen into the obscurity or been forgotten. Then the question become what is fleet is he a spren? Like a unique sentient wind spren kinda like the winds are sentient in many mythology, a cognative shadow?, maybe a combo like the stormfather the shadow of fleet?

Maybe but the one problem I have with this is lirin supposedly went as a messenger which I feel like means he couldn’t have been there long enough to court hesina but I could be wrong
-
I think people from other planets are foreigners but I guess they could be heterochromatic that’s the only one I didn’t account for, other then maybe a herald or something.
-
This sounds like it may be possible, I also suspect that kaladins mother may be A very capable politician if she put her mind to it and seeing as kaladin gave her or something Returned to her a social status to allow that it could be interesting to see this. maybe we get her verbally sparring with shallan or jasnah
-
So we know hesina has something important going on likely to do with her parents. 1. She had fallen significantly in social status since her childhood https://wob.coppermind.net/events/61/#e1335 2. Both of her parents are not darkeyed meaning at least one of them is a lighteyes or foreigner https://wob.coppermind.net/events/324/#e9290 3. Kaladin is related to the former queen presumably through his mother https://wob.coppermind.net/events/360/#e10909 4. on top of that kaladin could have potentially managed to get married to laral and she is far far above him in social standing, even with kal being high ranking and their fathers being friends it’s still a bit too big of a gap without other reasons. so is it unreasonable to think it possible that someone at Urithiru May recognize hesina or that she will know people there? even if she was onlt related to some people of middling importance she would surly still know someone there. now we really don’t know enough information to judge who would recognize or know her but i think we can try and judge if someone would. (my really really crackpot theory/ hope is that she is sebarial and Palona’s daughter, this is almost certainly not true but still)

Which major character(s) do you think will die by end of series?
Valigus replied to TequilaJack's topic in Stormlight Archive
That’s kinda what I expect to happen with kaladin him to go out as the last act of book 5 -
this is just a random question I had Could a spren take up a shard I imagine I may have to be specific spren like for honor it may have to be either the stormfather or an honorspren, but as sentient beings could they Become the wielded of a shard?
-
I must agree with this, especially because kaladin is far too capable and dangerous to be left in the alter half unless he overshadows everyone

Valigus replied to TequilaJack's topic in Stormlight Archive
Just saying syl could totally be dead, but kaladin needs to be out of action in the early part of rhythm of war it’s already happening because simply put he is too capable same reason we can’t have dalinar going full blackthorn on the front line also adolin is the Dockson equivalent to both shallan and kaladin I love him but he is so dead speaking of which coudl a spren take up a shard -

Valigus replied to TequilaJack's topic in Stormlight Archive
Kaladin is dead, his entire character is literally everyone else dies around him and he can’t stop it. That plus the entire philosophy of journey before destination screams heroic sacrifice the story of fleet is the exact same as the story of like noble six, the fight for the fight itself with the end not really mattering. Plus the way kaladin is with fighting it’s like a borderline drug for him and when he really gets into it he is barely human. my point is if any philosophy ever justified journey before destination it’s that of the knights radiant And kaladin is like jasnah and dalinar in that he just overshadows anyone else around. Jasnah had to be removed for shallan to progress and it’s pretty hard to develop new problems when kaladin can show up and kill everything on the battlefield alone, he has taken on at least 12 fused while protecting dalinar and fighting an unmade with 3 shards while having a depressive episode. Imagine him having shardplate and whatever being 5th ideal gives you he subordinates everyone around him and warps their character arcs to be in relation to him just like dalainr and jasnah, adolin spent 3 books being defined by his father, shallan spent 2 being defined by jasnah, and nobody seems to have broken from kaladin yet. now a more elegant solution would be to have syl sacrifice herself for some reason whcih allows him to stay as a behind the lines leader but still grow and be around for us to enjoy. -
Let me clarify I don’t want him to die but he is like the masculine equivalent of jasnah in wok he just subordinates everyone else around him jasnah had to “die” so shallan could move on and the same thing has to happen to kaladin generally it’s hard to have other fighting characters when kaladin can just show up fight 12 fused at once plus an unmade while protecting dalinar with only a tiny bit of help while having a depressive episode.
