We have two Bondsmiths that were capable of opening a Perpendicularity: Dalinar and Ishar. You assume that you can take Honors Perpendicularity away from the planet the Shard has Invested in. That seems like a stretch to me. In your initial post, you said that because Scadrial is weak, Rosharans should attack. Why? What does Roshar gain from that? Why not attack Nalthis instead? You also say that the reason for attacking Scadrial is because they have guns, and I just don't follow your logic here. Shards have an understanding of the cosmere above any mortal, and they would have no problem describing what a firearm is to their people. You can get a single Lightweaver or Mavset-im to steal one and bring it back home to create their own. Hell, you can just buy one without any fighting. Also, Scadrial isn't the only place in the cosmere where firearms are common. Darksiders on Taldain also have them. Even disregarding all of that, Rosharan artifabrians were close to figuring out how repulsors work. Why would they need a gunpowder powered weapon on a planet where you have a more efficient and easily accessible fuel - Stormlight.

I don't see any chance for interplanetary warfare happening anywhere in the cosmere before era 4 for several reasons. No Shardworld has anything of enough value to make a planetary invasion preferable to stable trade. If you decide to launch such an invasion, you have to get entire armies through the Cognitive realm. And from what we've seen of Rosharan and Scadrian subastrals, that would mean sailing or flying armies because of wast ocean-like areas. Even if you got your army to the enemy Perpendicularity, it's your single option of attack. A small, extremely defensible bottleneck that allows only a few dozen people to go through it at a time simply because of its size. Then, if you somehow managed to win a war in those conditions, how are you going to maintain your position? You would have to make sure that an entire planet's worth of people and land won't have the manpower and manufacturing capabilities to mount a counter-attack or at least a resistance. The only option with the current level of magical and technological development would be to kill a planet, Ashyn style, which would presumably make an entire invasion a waste. People above stated already that it would also be a logistical nightmare due to the difficulty of supply. Even in the case of Roshar, which has soulcasters, it would still be difficult because they wouldn't have a regularly renewable source of Stormlight to soulcast, Surgebind, or power fabrials, assuming they would even work in the Cognitive realm. Also, in the case of Scadrial, they have a Shard on their side. I doubt that Harmony is so powerless or bound by his Intent of neutrality that he wouldn't protect his own people from such danger.

The greatest strength of Sel in the military sense is that you can't really invade it through the Cognitive realm because of the Dor. While we haven't seen much of Selish subastral, leading an army through a chaotic plasma storm seems unfeasibly difficult. So an army of Regal Singers riding Chasmfiends and Larkin while singing to the Rhythm of Destruction is unfortunately not an option. Khriss also wrote in the Ars Arcanum that the land on Sel became Invested and is growing self-aware, which may or may not affect how difficult it would be to soulcast on Sel. In terms of actual fighting, we know of two Invested arts that can certainly mess with Radiant powers, those being AonDor, and the bone magic thing. There is also the magical battle dance, which might work, but we haven't seen enough of it to say. Two factors make it difficult to speculate about Elantrian fighting abilities. The first one is that we don't really know how they fought before the Reod and the second is how advanced their fabrials are at the moment. The first is important because an Elantrian who has to draw all of his Aons from scratch to fight is a dead Elantrian. Maybe they did something similar to Alchemists from Fullmetal Alchemist and drew some Aons on their clothes, for self-defense if nothing else. The second one is important because the Ire had working warning fabrials three hundred years before the events of TWoK, and by now, they might be living in a full magi-tech society, selling AonDor rifles to anyone who'll pay. Because in the best-case scenario based on these criteria is that, following the initial invasion, Elantrians wouldn't even need to wave their hands around, just push a few buttons on their Soul cannons while sipping Pina Coladas.

@Bzhydack It seems that you can use different Investiture to fuel different forms of magic. Although, as of Era 2, it seems that the best use for it would be in magical mechanisms where Stormlight might be preferable for some reason, like in South Scadrial Technology. However, using other Investiture to fuel a personal use of an Invested Art seems pointless in all cases except the Dor.

Just had an idea. What if, depending on spren and gemstone combination, you could use metal to create either a Feruchemical or an Allomantic effect in a fabrial?
-
Something to keep in mind is that all the versions of the suppressor fabrial were made by spren manifesting in the Physical real as a gemstone. Since we know that most or possibly all of those designs can be made using modern fabrial techniques, it seems likely that with a proper spren, gemstone, and metal we can make this kind of fabrial. It may be where enhancement metals come into play on Roshar.

Maybe Odiums imprisonment on Braize allowed Honor (and possibly Cultivation) to set the terms of engagement, but forbidding him to fight would have set Rayse free. Similar to how Preservation persuaded Ruin to create humans with a promise that he will be able to destroy them eventually, Honor was able to bind Odium to Braize, allowing Rayse some influence over the system.

Endowment’s almighty magic system (Dawnshard spoilers)

@stonewalker16 I meant that they are trying to invert the Command itself, not the Breaths that were used to Awaken an object.- 52 replies

The simplest explanation that comes to my mind is that Honor simply prohibited Odium from granting Adhesion to his minions. Possibly, as another measure to prevent another Ashyn. We see at the end of the RoW that Odium can corrupt Kaladin, and he is still able to use Adhesion. Odium says that if Dalinar became a Fused, he would still be bound by his Oaths, so it seems like Odium can make him something like a Bondsmith. However, my speculation Dalinar might be completely off if Rayse just wanted him to be the Blackthorn, but Bondsmith Oaths don't really allow that, so I'm not sure about that one. As the people above mentioned, Shards don't choose their magic system. That doesn't mean that Odium can't use what people in the world see as Adhesion. We see him Connecting to people and making deals like a Bondsmith. Because Shards have an understanding of the cosmere on a fundamental level and can manipulate everything on that level, saying that Shards can't do something seems wrong.

Endowment’s almighty magic system (Dawnshard spoilers)
ScadrianTank replied to Koloss17's topic in Cosmere Discussion
After stewing on Lights and Intent things we got in RoW, I get a sneaking suspicion that what Navani did with inverting tones to change Intent is similar to how Awakeners break Commands of Awakened objects. Like using the senses granted by the Breaths to "attune" to the Intent of the Awakened object, then inverting it to break the Command or take it over, maybe?- 52 replies

Seon may be cut off from the outside world, like a room lined with aluminum stopped spanreeds from working in Oathbringer.

What would happen if a Surgebinder used duralumin enhanced Basic Lashing on an object? I assume that the Lashing would create a gravitational pull of more than a single normal Lashing, like what Szeth did to a balcony in the prologue for WoK, but since this Surge requires a constant flow of Stormlight, would it be like a very strong punch or am I completely wrong here?

Shardcast: Chatting with Daniel Greene about Fantasy, Cosmere, and Rhythm of War!
ScadrianTank commented on Chaos's article in Shardcast
If there was a city populated exclusively by noblemen, he could have. -
Bondsmiths of old were not qualified for "unlimited power" either. While new Bondsmiths are more powerful, their Oaths are the same. You keep saying that Navani is unworthy, but the Sibling themselves accepted her Oath. So she judged her worthy of a bond after all. The biggest check on Navani or any Sibling Bondsmith is that their powers are tied to the Tower. So she is a lot more restricted than Dalinar in this regard. Navani's knowledge of fabrials and engineering with access to what seems to be unlimited Investiture is a more dangerous aspect of her, in my opinion. She is much more likely to break something with flying machines or fabrial guns than Connection.
-
Sibling said that Navani isn't worthy for two reasons: They don't like Navani capturing spren. They don't like humans. But Navani is worthy. No one in the Tower understands city management, building infrastructure, and fabrials. She kept an entire nation running after its king decided to start going on worldhopping vacations after politics bored him. All these qualities are vital for Urithiru to function as a cultural, political, and economic heart of the Coalition. Rlain would have been a great Bondsmith, but not a Sibling Bondsmith, especially considering the circumstances.

Coinshots would have an easier time because the damage of their attack is concentrated in a small area. In the last three examples you provided, the force of the attack is spread across multiple sections of the plate. So there is a way for Mistborn to get through, a difficult one, but it's better than nothing.

That is assuming all these metals have useful effects and not something like gold or aluminum.

Possible origins of the Unmade [Discuss]
ScadrianTank replied to Ptolema's topic in Cosmere Discussion
My question is, why didn't the Fused unmake Cusicesh in previous returns if the nine Unmade they have now were just big and powerful spren? -
If we put them into a fighting ring and give Mistborn a sword or a cane, then any Radiant of the 4th ideal has an enormous advantage. But I think you all severely underestimate the power of a firearm, especially something with repeat fire capability. As of RoW, where we haven't seen any Radiant who can engage on a distance effectively and repeatedly, anyone with a rifle, even without magical powers, is a significant danger.

Brandon seems to be foreshadowing a connection between Gavilar, Kaladin, and Honor. In the prologue, Navani reacts to seeing Gavilar dead by comparing his corpse to a discarding shell. Then in chapter 110, Lirin describes Kaladin healing his slave brands the same way. Also, in Oathbringer, Adolin says the following to Kaladin. Too tenuous a connection or is there something else there?

A Dumb Idea that Seems WAY too Feasible
ScadrianTank replied to Karger's topic in Cosmere Discussion
If aluminum really blocks all Connection to the outside, any Herald in such a box will die because their Connection to Honor would be severed. You are proposing to do the same thing the Singers did to Jezrien but with a different kind of cage. -
I want to talk about the possibility of God metals made of Anti-Investiture. Anti-Light and Anti-Investiture seem to be inspired by antimatter, which is a kind of atom composed of its antiparticles. For example, the hydrogen atom is composed of an electron and proton, the antihydrogen atom is made up of a positron and antiproton. So what would a metal made of Anti-Investiture look like? What would it do? Can it even exist? Feasibility of existence Firstly, I would like to mention that we may have already seen it in Mistborn. Ruin and Preservation seem to be the only Shards that seemed to act as opposites of each other. Their metals, however, don't behave like they are opposites. Their effects are different. We haven't seen anyone try to bang a nugget of Lerasium against a piece of Atium, so we don't know if their contact would cause annihilation. A way to counter this view would be to show that they are not, in fact, opposites. For one, Preservation and Cultivation would also be opposites. For another, if they were to act as regular antimatter, they would have the same properties but opposite charges. If Anti-Investiture in it's physical form acts as Lerasium and Atium, meaning its opposition manifests in Intent rather than composition, then it may be much simpler to obtain and keep in that form. Composition As we know, God metals are made of Shard's Investiture crystalized into a metallic form. While we don't have confirmation in the text, we have a WoB stating that at least Harmonium is made entirely out of a single element. WoB in question: Given the context of the original question, I believe it is safe to assume that the same holds for other God metals. So, therefore, the same would also apply to our Anti-metal. The question then becomes, would this metal be composed out of antiparticles, or would it merely be another element of opposite Intent? Properties and effects If Ruin, Preservation, and their metals are, in fact, opposites, then we see that Anti-Investiture is different from antimatter. Anti-metal is a new element that has opposite Spiritual Intent, rather than composition. If that is so, we have another set of metals for Mistborn and Feruchemists to use. If not, then we now have a pull effect to every God metal push. In both cases, we have something useful in fabrial science, Allomancy, and Feruchemy. I hesitate to guess any physical properties of these, other than likely explosive interaction with their original counterpart, as the only kind of this interaction we saw was with Harmonium, which is this way because of conflicting Intents that make up its essence. (On a more personal note, it would be cool to see a magical interaction with magnetism.) So here it is. Hopefully, I made some sense and didn't bore you to death. Let me know what you think!
