There's a decent chance one is, but as to who I'd have to look. I'm free tomorrow so I'll try to megapost. But I'm more logging my complaint that... it's risky. Better than ye olde "PM reasons", as as Mailliw pointed out there were posted reasons. It just feels... a lot like what goes on in a doc for who to kill. Shady. I wrote half of this last night, so I'm gonna finish Derrick then get back to you all... Derrick knew none of this, of course. He wasn't allowed to use the... the... what was the word. No, he wasn't supposed to use that word either. What did Derrick know? Derrick knew who he was. Why he was. He even knew where he was, although that one was a bit fuzzier than most people expected. How he was... well, that was the problem, wasn't it. Or was it the solution? Perhaps it had been both. That's what the voice had said. When he was... that one was tricky. There were koloss about. Did that mean the Lord Ruler had died? The world hadn't ended yet, that was obvious enough. That gave him... blast. Two years? He'd been here about four months. Derrick had been here a bit longer, but that was the old Derrick. The one before the... accident, that had left him with a fairly severe brain injury and a healthy insurance payment. They were far enough away from Luthadel that Derrick decided they must be before the release. That made the most sense, all things considered. Derrick didn't think it would make too much of a difference whether he was right, though. They weren't going to die to the Ascension - either one - anytime soon. And if the mists came earlier... well, most people here were nobles. At least in blood. That's what matters, doesn't it? Blood. Who cares about intellect, strength, senses, emotions. Blood is blood, and Derrick considered himself a good judge of blood. Derrick found that blood had two types. Most people did. Noble or skaa. Darkeyes or lighteyes. Fresh or dry. Red or silver. Positive or Negative. A or B... or O? Derrick usually saw blood as "internal" or "external". He was good at judging which was which, and was also good at correcting any incorrect placement. It was more easy for some that others. He still hadn't made Philico bleed yet, he thought. Hadn't had a reason to for a long while. Almost on the Southern Wind... but then circumstances had gotten out of hand. Besides, they had been pirates together. He could hardly kill a fellow! But there hadn't been much blood around that was misplaced. All was in its proper place. What was it with Derrick today? He hadn't any need to spill blood here. Not yet. He didn't plan on it, but planning for Derrick was difficult. How long had it even been? What time was it? What had he been talking about? Who. Check. Where. Check. When. Within acceptable levels. What. Irrelevant. Why? Derrick pulled out - in a way - the orb Roko had given him. It wasn't atium; he would recognize that. It also wasn't the other metal... lerasium? He was fairly certain he'd seen that somewhere before. But where he couldn't say... and either way, this thing was different. Its weight felt different, as if it was unbalanced. A... mechanism? But one unlike anything he'd ever seen. Certainly nothing from Scadrial, from this time period. Or even time line. But how to turn it on? Did Derrick even want to? Yes. He couldn't trust Roko, but the Basilisk had his own objectives outside of this town. And if they proved troublesome... well, he had countermeasures. Of course, he had no idea what to do with the thing. He rolled it around; it looked uniform enough. Perhaps an Allomantic trigger... no, Roko wasn't an Allomancer either, Derrick didn't think. He heard someone talking in the distance. Perhaps it would be good to get with the group a little... start talking. Convince them all he wasn't spiked. Well, he wasn't Spiked, at least.

I’ll second/third that I do not like the idea of a PM group “deciding” to exe someone. There’s a fine line between discussing suspicions in PMs and just becoming voting blocs. And to me a “small but informed group with the power to kill players who (they think) oppose them” sounds a loooooot like an Elim team...

I don't think an Elim!Rioter would needlessly out themselves on D2. That just removes a lot of potential for vote manip later in the game. Especially with the Rioter-Smoker combo. Other roles? Sure. Vote manip roles I'm more inclined to read village for proving yourself, because you can get held accountable (or framed) much more easily. Plus, a Seeker will know something's up if an essentially-proven Rioter scans Vanilla Villager.

Well, that throws my Coinshot idea out the window... Why XP? It was a 50/50 chance they had just proved themselves as a Rioter. Also if you need anyone to be insane with Derrick's mostly recovered from his anti-breakdown Okay, so we know Bard didn't self-protect. Interesting.

By ‘potshot’ I mean a random attack. Not knowing the role of the target.

... why would the Seeker need to out to deserve protection? Losing a (Village) Seeker to a potshot is probably worse than losing a Village Lurcher. And there’s already worry the Elims have a Coinshot or Mistborn.

I could probably do my Unmade game if TJ’s not available. I have Spring Break all next week, which should help with setups. (But I would probably need a co-GM) Post 1,500... yay?

That too. But that would mean Bard was scanned N1 and the Elims were confident enough that Bard wasn’t self protecting. Which he evidently wasn’t, unless there’s a Coinshot behind Door #4. Edit: wait, if Bard got Seeked he was probably on the Seeker. Right.

So Bard was the Elim kill. Other two are coinshots. Did Bard claim to anyone? He was low-activity enough to be a believable potshot but being a known Lurcher would seem to make more sense for a N2 returning player kill.

Derrick watched the lizard go. "No, Roko's not a lizard. Not a lizard... something like the serfant... basilisk! Lost the word there for a second... unimportant. But... this..." Derrick clutched the orb. The... bead? It was metal. That was enough to trigger the old remembrances of Derrick, the search, the future, the benevolent endowment... no, not Endowment, endowment. Endowment. Like honor and Honor and honour, and sometimes Hunor. Was this mystery one to be solved now, get a peak into the inner workings of the Basilask? Derrick thought he had a good idea of what that could be, if he remembered his prehistory correctly. He didn't, usually, but it could have be. But this trinket... could be what he thought it was, of astronomical value. Could be much more than astronomical, but why Roko would have that Derrick had no idea, much less why it would be given unto him. Could be just a means. Derrick had no way to know, and asking would likely beg for unheard ears to listen in. So, Derrick decided to do what he always did with small items of value - he swallowed it. It should be safe there, even if a normal digestive system would ruin or be ruined by whatever it was. It wouldn't be in the digestive system very long, anyway; how Derrick usually did it it never entered there in the first place, but he'd found doing that spread the... wrong rumors. Derrick had a reputation to maintain, you see. "Traverse the corridors of madness and you will always be free..." he murmered. "Derrick, what think you of that? Madness has its advantages. It had happened in the village grounds, which meant Philico already knew. No preventing that, although the shifter was unlikely to act upon it; his portrayal was good, but it lacked the non-culpability that Derrick had. Philico. Hmph. Derrick would need to pay him a visit. He could use a good story. Who else... it was impossible to know. Well, not here. He didn't want to use that, not yet. Derrick knew, which could be problematic. Kast and Wyl, they would likely hear tale of the sounds. Derrick doubted they knew of the reasons, though. Unless he had... told, them? It was so hard to remember... so hard to think when one's thoughts are jumbled through the uncanny view. He could feel another scream coming. One that would be far more dangerous. He'd been alright for now but he could rusting feel the staring. Oh... the staring. No, the corridors of madness were not freedom. Not for Derrick. Not when every inch, every outburst, every crazed detail had to be set to perfection, to avoid what had just happened. They were close. And yet the for all the doors in the world, Derrick lacked a key. Perhaps that was what Roko had meant. Derrick needed a key. This? Perhaps a key, perhaps not. He'd barely looked. He didn't have time. It was driving him... driving him mad. He let a single whisper escape his lips. "Why have you forsaken me..." It's hard to pretend to be mad, you see. It ends up being real.

So, here's the thing. I am very busy today, and I don't think I'll have time to assemble a read list with actual, you know, data. What I do know is I really don't want to kill Striker here. He's put himself much more... out there, for lack of a better word, and I read him at least moderately village which is much better than a standard null on most everyone else. Which means I need a new plan if I'm going to avoid dying without just self-preservation voting on Striker, which would be both counterproductive for the village if I'm right and... boring . I have reasons for some of these, but mostly they're just gut. Village Reads: Striker, Illwei, Elandera, Araris, Low Village Reads: Quinn, Mat Low Elim Reads: Maillaw, Reading, Dannex(???), The Unknown Order New and Old NAI: Fifth, Young Bard, Stick, Tani, Daisy, Biplet No idea: Gears, TJ, Devotary, whoever I'm forgetting to put places STINK: STINK ... well, that didn't help my brain at all... hmm. The Unknown Order, any general thoughts? @The Unknown Order

Okay, let's see here. I think what I was trying to get at (without really saying it because putting it out there makes me nervous) is that experience-based Elim team building works as a strategy, but is a really unhealthy strategy long term. Take the last LG: the Elims were Connie, Lotus, The Unknown Order, Flyingbooks, and Devotary. All of those people except Devotary are newer than me, and all of them died before Devotary did. With so many older returning players in that game, like Kas/Alv/Burnt, it... really didn't make sense for another newer player to be the last Elim. That's not what got Devotary executed, but I'd wager it's something that sits in the back of people's minds. But if we do that, GMs may start ignoring the experience balance, and that could end up with an Elim team made of nearly all new players or all grizzled veterans. Neither of which are great, because of fairly obvious reasons. ... this is me talking in circles again. Well, that's what I do to stop myself from tinfoiling I guess. This issue is more a meta one than a me one, because I'm happily in the middle experience zone where I'm free game to get killed by anyone. Which doesn't really explain the vote xD Here they explain that it's essentially just a random vote, and that they would prevent a tie if it comes down to it (which it did, and they followed through on this, changing their vote to Books). I'm curious though, why didn't you vote for TJ, who (as far as I could tell) was the only player you expressed actual suspicion on in the post? @Ashbringer I mean cuz, the vote was meant to be tentative anyway like you admitted yourself, so why not vote on somebody you're actually suspicious of? The main reason I picked Reading was because he already had votes. TJ had... one from Illwei? Reading had two. (And then Illwei moved to Reading). And... Derrick's worry of TJ was simply from this: Derrick gets nervous about people talking about kandra too much so that wasn't really a serious suspicion. Which is what I meant by the fact he doesn't think it's a spike, but that obviously didn't come across well. TJ is RP'ing more than usual, but we're in a post-Alcoholics Autonomous world so I can accept that more readily. So... I'm not really suspicious of him? Much? Not really more than the average person who's contributing less than they look, and TJ doesn't do the half-serious stuff very often either. Like I will do, especially when trying to view suspicions through an immortal maddened kandra who has no real stake in the fate of Fallion's Tears. In my opinion this isn't a reason convincing enough, mainly because 1) They did not mention this at all in their reads post, and 2) They admit that there's other players that are also showing similar patterns So...why Reading? I still don't completely understand Well, obviously I didn't do it for the pun, I made that after. I didn't specify a reason because, again, it was 12:15 in the morning for me and I really didn't want to spend another giant chunk of time trying to reason through everything I'd just written down. I mainly chose Reading because the fact they had more votes - I've had some really bad luck when it comes to starting vote trains lately - and because I couldn't really out-meta a reason to exe them like I could the other saying nothing of substance groups (like Dannex, who I got exed last LG and has I think gotten D1 executed... 3-4 times now?). Of course now that it's not midnight I remember that I eliminated Reading D1 in the Rithmatist FFA, but that doesn't count. I think that generally speaking, roaming protective roles are better than ones that just sit on a certain role and don't let them die. There's the chance to block a lot more kills that way, especially with multiple protectives that can't really coordinate. However, most protectives can't continuously self-target until they have a reason not to. That's not the case with Lurchers here. Let's say we have one Seeker and three Lurchers, somehow. If all three Lurchers are sitting on the Seeker, you're just wasting Lurchers. If none are on the Seeker, problem. So the best thing when you have one player you want protected, but multiple protectives to do it who can't yet coordinate, is to have the Lurchers randomly decide whether to protect the Seeker or protect someone else/themselves. Statistically that should work, and practically it should work enough to dissuade Elims from striking the protected role while still having roaming protectives to block kills. So, I don't like to give just one option. That's just something I do when I don't feel like I have enough say to do things. I look at both options, and when I feel like either works or a split works, I send out both options. I was 99% sure that Ventyl was the Elim Kill and RandBy was the Coinshot kill. I'm used to writeups never giving out any factual information, as that's been the case in... essentially every game I've ever played. And to me it made more... sense. Ventyl was (widely, apparently not widely enough) read Village and had a claimed role. RandBy was largely just RP'ing and nearly inactive. That feels a lot like a somewhat-contribution-crusading-coinshot and an Elim team who wants to stop claimers. Then it came out it was the other way around. So now Ventyl, a claimed role read Village, was killed by a presumably-village Coinshot, and a near-inactive, quite-new player was killed by the Elims. Queue confusion. That's all I got. It enough? Probably not, who knows. Between wisdom teeth and midterms I've been busy, but that's not really something I want to lean on all week.
