  1. It is widely (or maybe narrowly?) believed that we see some Skybreakers on Scadrial at the end of The Lost Metal. The "coinshots" Steris meets at the end of the book during the Sanderlanche, who specifically ask about whether it would be legal to act and use a power that Skybreakers have, flinging themselves through the air. Brandon sort of half-denied it. https://wob.coppermind.net/adv_search/?query=skybreakers+"the+lost+metal"&date_from=&date_to=2025-10-25&speaker=&ordering=-date#15986
  2. Vasher says that. I don't think he's correct in any useful sense. I am sure Brandon will never finally settle the question, though.
  3. Iron and steel allomancy are not electromagnetism any more than tineyes could possibly hear sounds that are too weak to really be vibrating air. At some point it's the Rule of Cool, as Brandon himself has said.
  4. I don't think anyone answered the original question. The Lord Ruler, and then Marsh, delayed their deaths by the very difficult and expensive method of compounding atium. Atium ferrings can store youth in their metalmind, then burn it to gain enough youth to live for centuries.
  5. Among other things: allomancy belongs to Preservation, the relationship between Shards and metals is weird (metal seems to be invisible to Ruin, as he can't read messages written on it without Marsh's presence), and Preservation and Ruin are deeply, deeply Connected to each other as well as Scadrial.
  6. But she does. She takes (for example) rescuing Vasher very seriously. She covers it with humor, but she hates the idea of someone being held prisoner and abused. She does it in a funny way, but she steals all that grain because she can't tolerate the idea of hungry people right next to a giant pile of food. (This is, by the way, almost certainly a reference to the Prophet Mohammed, Brandon being the hyperliterate guy he is.)
  7. It's the power that's worried. Nightblood can kill people and destroy objects. Hoid holds the Dawnshard Exist, one of the weapons used to Shatter Adonalsium. Presumably, it could (perhaps with another Dawnshard or all of them) quite easily Splinter a Shard. And Hoid was part of the conspiracy to eliminate Adonalsium.
  8. Note that when Yumi moves into Painter's body, her enormous Investiture and the presence of her Spiritweb in there allow her to literally shapeshift that male body into a semblance of her long-dead one.
  9. Adonalsium did not "have" sixteen Shards. It was a unified whole, which neither Harmony nor Retribution currently is. When properly guided by other of the principles behind the Shards, Preservation + Ruin = Creation. Note that of all the Shards, only Ruin and Preservation created a planet or biosphere from scratch, and they could only do it by working together.
  10. From the Arcanum (spoiler):
  11. Nitpick (See my user name): the Returned are "stapled" back into their original bodies.
  12. It's Awakening, probably from Breath. We have not seen any other way to do that (that I remember) but Brandon does say that in the Cosmere, different magic systems can produce the same effects. There's probably another planet or a space station or something, somewhere, that has a magic system to move cloth around with Investiture. Xisis is a merchant. We see SPOILER FOR SP5, ISLES OF THE EMBERDARK
  13. In fact, he broke the oath to defend someone who could not defend herself, paradoxically saying he broke the oath while actually refusing to break its words. This Sanderson guy, he might have some writing talent.
  14. Hmm ... if I were sent to the Cosmere, I'd invent gliders and powered aircraft, and sell them to Shadesmar explorers, since they'd work far better than the sailing ships. I wonder how far you can get above the Reverse Map of Roshar in a sailplane ....
  15. Not so much, with me. I just wish he'd stop interrupting the story to fail again. (Hi, Rayse! I found you a playmate.)
  16. If Adonalsium were recreated, it would be much farther in the future than TSM. I would put Emberdark farther in the future than TSM, but I haven't checked WoBs, that's just off the cuff.
  17. Brandon has been hinting at a rejoined Adonalsium for many books now. This is Brandon. If he's foreshadowing it this hard, it won't happen, at least in a straightforward way.
  18. I mean, the short (and meta) answer is that she needs to have them on so Brandon can have them removed dramatically in a Space Age story.
  19. Again, what makes you think Hoid hates change? I mean, he helped kill Adonalsium, which I think was a pretty big change. He keeps learning new magic systems, which is changing himself voluntarily. He changes people he meets. His apprentices all feel that he changed them, right?
  20. Why do you say he's against change? He carried Exist for a while, but we don't know if he ever gets it back after passing it to Sigzil. Also, why would not wanting change protect him from experiencing it?
  21. Just logic. Just my intuitive sense for how this universe works. Just the fact that the Highstorm can't supply the full power of a Shard every microsecond, or it's absurdly unbalancing. Do you think that the Tower (the Sibling is the Stormfather's ... sibling, after all) can supply infinite investiture to those inside it? Hell, even being in the Well of Ascension doesn't supply Investiture as fast as you're positing. It took Kelsier months (years? can't remember the timeline) of marinating in the Well to become a stable Cognitive Shadow.
  22. Marsh of Era 1 seems OK with the Northern Continent culture you refer to. Kelsier looks on them as far too accepting of aristocracy. I think people like Vin would be fascinated to learn about the Southern Continent.
  23. I don't think the details of what you're describing would work. I'm pretty sure feruchemy is of Preservation no matter how you get it. But if you started hoarding endless numbers of hemalurgic spikes in your underground lair? Hmm ... It would arguably be an even more evil thing to do than Taravangian's murder-for-prophecy scheme (which, be it noted, totally failed to help The Diagram in any way whatsoever, as far as I can tell).
