  1. Don't sleep, if it is on audio book, you have loads of time. But then you will need to sleep before tackling Wind and Truth. There is nothing like rushing that spoils a good book.
  2. I read an interview this week that someone did with Brandon, and it seemed like they were saying a dead god was the real villain. This could make a lot of sense. Honor chose to plunge Roshar into an eternal war for the sake of His dive ego... I mean honor. He invested the 10 best humans on earth with loads of stormlight and kept knitting them back together so they could be tortured eternally. They only way to truly win this war is a complete genocide of a species. And on top of all of that Odium may actually be the hero the cosmere needs to be rescued from a bunch of broken gods and Honor is stopping that from happening.
  3. I think El was the counterpart to Jezrien for a long time. At the Last desolation El, seeking to keep his friends and people from a cold oblivion of madness betrayed the Singers and helped keep 9 of the 10 Heralds alive. The Heralds rather than bring peace to the world enslaved the Singers after the false desolation. I think El is loyal to the new Odium but which Odium is hard to tell. El seems to appreciate the logical ruthless side of Odium which means if Odium's heart wins out El will betray him. The worst thing for the Cosmere is Dalinar ascending to Odium and Honor. Hear me out. Taravangian is a god divided. Logic and Passion, but never at the same time. Dalinar is The Blackthorn and Dalinar Kholin Bondsmith. The Blackthorn is the perfect avatar of Odium. Dalinar as a Radiant is bonded to the largest portion of Honor. So, I would argue he is a perfect Vessel for both Honor and Odium. Also, his honor would compel him to kill Cultivation so Navani can take up that shard, since you need to keep the marriage together.
  4. Only thing that could possibly make Moash worse is if he kills Gavinor. Something like this, Gavinor through the shenanigans in the spiritual realm ends up as Odium's champion. Dalinar can't make the contest but somehow designates that Bridge 4 should pick the champion, not knowing Odium chose a child. Everyone in Bridge 4 hesitates because the choice of Honor (including Honor spren) is life. Moash says, "I have no honor," steps forward summons Jezrien's honor blade and burns out poor Gavinor's eyes. Poor Gavinor. Obviously, this would be terrible. Would this be rock bottom or the beginning of a redemption arc, since Moash would have just saved all of mankind?
  5. they question of how does breaking oaths hurt Honor is a good one. I think the answer can be found in the phrase, "Honor is not dead so long as he lives in the hearts of men." Perhaps Honor saw something in mankind that He thought would better allow him to keep his intent so he abandoned the Singers who maybe were easier for Odium to influence. Depending on how closely Honor bound himself to mankind might have affected Honor's power.
  6. One of the more recent chapters said at the beginning, I pray you have the wisdom to know when to walk away. I think Honor swore an oath to defeat or bind Odium and being Honor he was incapable of going against this oath. So, he started a forever war which appealed to Odium's vanity and lust for battle and destruction. The Heralds and the Fused broke roughly at the same time. The spren saw what was happening over thousands of years and did what they had to in order to stop the cycle. Not sure if the Recreance was a response to Honor's death (because without him limiting surges they become more dangerous) or if it caused it. All three things, the breaking of the Oath pact, the Recreance and Tanavast's death are connected somehow. The Stormfather knows something though. There is a plan perhaps to have the Shard of Honor absent a human host bind Odium forever maybe?
  7. No, in the preview chapters it was mentioned that there were gods on Roshar before Honor and Cultivation. Those gods were the Wind, Stone, and Night. If the new gods leave or are killed, the old gods may return with vengeance. I don't think Cultivation turned the old god Night into the Nightwatcher, maybe someone else knows.
  8. Speaking of Death Rattles, the one that says, so the Night will reign... What if the true big bad is not Odium, but one of the old gods. Not the Wind, nor the Stones, but the Night. Perhaps, both Odium and Honor kill each other only for this ancient god to convert some of their power for itself.
  9. I actually don't think that this is true. Odium said that his people are growing tired of the conflict and seek a terrible ending (anti-light). Anti-light means that the Cycle of Desolations have to end. Both Fused and Radiant spren can face a true death. So, we have heard that there is a 20 year gap between books. This means that a generation can grow up and prepare for the last war. Odium likely thought that with Honor dead he would be able to finally win, so humankind surviving, is in itself a victory. The Radiants reformed. All three bondsmith (possibly) active. The Shard of Honor being taken up and the Heralds functioning again. I think that is really a huge victory for mankind. They have 20 years to prep for the war to end all wars. I imagine there are going to be lots of surprises for us though.
  10. I have a thought on this herald madness. Ishar says when an oath is sworn near them, they regain their sanity briefly. But don't their honor blades give them that resource? Essentially infuse themselves with stormlight to counter the madness. They must have had a way to function in the past. The other thing might be because they are cognitive shadows when they break their oaths they become the ten fools till they re-swear their oaths.
  11. So, I am unsure if this has been asked or mentioned. But with the way the last chapter ended. If Dalinar and Navani's bodies got thrown into the spiritual realm, is it possible that their spren treat that like them dying? If the If their is nothing tying them to the physical realm or the cognitive realm, how is that different than being dead, other than the fact that they can come back. A normal Knight Radiant that dies goes to the spiritual realm, but their ties to the physical and cognitive realm cease. So, the only thing I can think of tat makes this different, is that Dalinar and Navani still have living bodies.
  12. I really am curious what dividing a Shard in half does, not only to the power, but also to the limitations placed on Shards. Odium speaks of the power binding Dalinar eventually. Ohhhhh just had a thought. Hoid was after becoming an Elantrin. I don't remember where this was discussed, but he has been going around collecting various types of investiture. Now, I think it is safe to say that the people of Elantris are the most invested people on a large scale. After them, I'd say the Returned (but that is a very small group). I only say the Returned because they are functionally immortal. But what if instead of splintering Honor between two people, Honor, Odium, and Cultivation are shattered over Alethkar, and the combination of the three is Conquest. So you have a people who are highly invested that go forth to conquer everything. War+growth would be conquest right?
  13. Without the Everstorm I am unsure how effective a desolation would have been. Of course, without Radiants, the Fused would be a power house. But every Fused you kill would be one less to deal with.
  14. lol, I was almost like noooooooooo such a huge spoiler. Let's go with the bridge runs. Whew that was a close one
  15. If Odium and Cultivation combine, you would have divine wrath being cultivated. In theology, sometimes hell is described as a place absent of God's mercy, but a cultivated divine wrath that only grows, would be another terrifying way to describe it. But calling it the Shard of hell doesn't seem to fit. But what about Misery.
  16. No I haven't. It seemed like it was very spoilery. From what people are saying it makes me think 90% of the Windrunners die... which is exactly the noble sort of thing that they would do, Honor bless them.
  17. It would sorta be fitting if Leshwi became a herald of the Windrunners with bond to the spren she asked after once all the dead eyes are re-awakened. But in terms of Honor, if the Shard is poured out upon all non-fused, then we will have a planet of Windrunners, that resemble Elantris.
  18. And what might make this more terrifying, and here me out. Both Dalinar and Taravangian have been touched by Cultivation, making them ripe for growth. One to bear the Shards and one to be the Avatar of that Shard. Dalinar and Taravangian agree on principles but not methodology. There is a chapter in Oathbringer that discusses this. Dalinar says to imprison all three men, Taravangian says to execute all three men. Also, part of Taravangian and part of Dalinar always wished they had been truly allied. There is actually nothing to stop this now that between the two of them they hold all the cards. The scariest outcome for everyone else in the Cosmere is not that Taravangian wins, or that Dalinar somehow takes up Odium and Honor, but that Taravangian takes Gavilar's spot and Dalinar agrees to be his sword either by choice or by losing the contest. So, you have the Shard of Justice, and the Avatar of War, and because it is being executed by a shard, it is by definition a holy war.
  19. great question. I think that a steel arrow or bolt that has an anti-light gemstone attached to it would simply scratch the paint of plate, but if I recall correctly aluminum behaves differently. I remember Kaladin fighting fused with weir weapons that resisted shard blades. The thing is those weapons would be useless against regular steel. So that sets up a rock, paper, scissors sort of patter. Shard blade beats steel, aluminum+ anti-light beats shard blade, steel beats aluminum.
  20. Divine Wrath+ Divine Honor= Divine Justice. An atonement must be made for sin. Thus, the blood of the gods who have failed mankind shall be required of them.
  21. So, from the interlude that was read a couple of days ago, it sounds like Talin and Ashin are in Azimir. If there are only a handful of Fused, and both Adolin and Colot swear ideals, it is possible that we see two Heralds win the day in a couple of minutes. For Adolin I think he may say several oaths in quick succession because he knows them and has lived them. The third ideal may be slightly tailored. Something like this: Life before death, strength before weakness, journey before destination. I will remember those who have been forgotten. I will listen to those who have been ignored, including my father. Side note: perhaps the way the Heralds were able to remain functional is by just consuming a very large amount of Stormlight all the time. If Tower light, doesn't really run out, they may actually be functional in the Tower. Maybe they need to re-swear/re-bond their blades first. But for Talin at least this would make tons of sense. Here is a map compliments go to the wonderful people found here: Wind and Truth Read-Along Discussion: Chapters 19 and 20 - Reactor (reactormag.com) One note, there are 1k fused headed to the shattered plains.
  22. I do hope we get a Dalinar vs Gavilar. And I hope Gavilar unmasks himself so that it is clear what he became.
  23. Question, about Jasnah, Isn't teleportation a thing for Elsecallers? Is that just to Shadesmare? Could a temporary Oathgate be created over short distances with the help of both bondsmiths?
  24. Nale has an intimate knowledge of the Tower, but I think we are underestimating the Sibling and Navani. The Sibling knows the Rhythms and can simply isolate the Skybreaker strike force. Is it worth diverting the Skybreakers and losing Thaylin city when you could also lose the entire order. Finally, if the Skybreakers are still governed by their oaths, what claim would they have on Urithiru? It has always belonged to the Radiants. I don't think they have the legality to attack it. I think three chasmfiends could take a Thunderclast. Like wolves pulling down a moose.
  25. That is the real question. How many Chasmfiends does it take to combat a Thunderclast? Also, how many Chasmfiends were killed during the war between the Parshendi and Alethi and how many are left? It just hit me that Adolin would be the prime subject for Nightwatcher. His mom and uncle are bondsmiths. He is uniting people and it seems like one of the bondsmiths needs to be the frontline warrior. Stormfather is the general. Sibling the logistics, support, R&D, but where is the bondsmith that charges in and shatters armies? I also think that the bodyguard that used to be a squire is going to go with Adolin and be one of the few survivors. It only takes a few in Azir swearing ideas to completely change the landscape of that battle. Furthermore, Adolin, can conduct a fighting withdraw to the city gate. The battle hasn't started. So, he needs to hold for about 4 days and then they can retake the city in the final 2 days.
