What if the investiture on the planet pre-ambition was of a shard other than Odium of Ambition. It coulda went like this 1. Investiture is on the planet prior to Ambition or Odiums Arrival. 2. Odium went and attacked Ambition. 3. Waves of Ambitions power washed over Threnody. 4. Her power corrupted the Investiture already there. When someone breaks the Simple Rules, it somehow activates Ambitions or the others shards investiture and their eyes turn red. The question is which Shard are the Simple Rules tied to. Ambition or the shard we dont know

@Honorlessdid this WoB just confirm that Shades are corrupted investiture? i think it did Steeldancer On Threnody, the Shades, their eyes turn red when they get really mad. Is that the same thing as with the Voidbringers and all the other ones? Brandon Sanderson I have a subtheme in the Cosmere of the redness and it's supposed to be intentional. Steeldancer So it is the same thing? Brandon Sanderson It's the same theme. But I do not mean to imply that it's the same Shard. Steeldancer But it's the same effect? Brandon Sanderson Yes. I'm doing it intentionally. Red eyes specifically are meant to mean something but I use it a few other ways [the same way?]. Legion Release Party (Sept. 19, 2018)

I just saw this WoB earlier today.

Maybe not fainlife but something similar that uses some of the same principles Either that or a ambition splinter
-
I think The Evil has something to do with Fainlife or more specifically Sho Del or their abilities. Uli Da's status as a Sho Del would probably factor into that
-
When nazh is talking about rituals to become a shadow, is that what you were referring to? Your probably right about that, but Im still standing firm on the rest of the theory.
-
Whatever it was, it was probably less restrictive and far less powerful

danimalod I just read Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell and loved it. How did the first shade come to be? Are there shades in other worlds? Do shades have bones? Brandon Sanderson Shades are what we call "Cognitive shadows" in the cosmere. They're basically "spren" or "[seons]" created from human souls. (Where investiture--or magical power--keeps a consciousness alive after it has lost its Physical connection.) Yes, shades all once had bodies. Think of them like petrified souls, where instead of stone replacing the tissue of a corpse, magical power replaced the parts of a soul that connect that soul to the Three Realms. Investiture replaces the humans connection to all 3 realms. Spren didnt have that preexisting connection to the 3 realm. So when a human dies and turns into a shade, the Investiture is imprinting on their connection to the physical realm and some part of them is stuck in the physical realm. This also makes me think that if only part of them is stuck in the PR that the bulk of them is in the CR then the shades must be smarter in the CR. This could explain why in Mistborn: Secret History, Alonoe is afraid of "threnodites" trying to make a move on them

From Khriss in Sel's AU Essay: "I believe that early on, the Shards took an unconcerned approach to humankind—and society was shaped by the slow, steady discovery of the powers that permeated the landscape." This implies that there was some kind of magic system prior to their shattering

so you want to see a Invested piece of Investiture? Kinda contradictory isn't it?

I think the effects would be drastically reduced. Elantris is a Focus for Elantrians pumping more of the Dor through them. Without Elantris less of the Dor would be feeding them and the effects would be less visible. I bet they wouldn't even have the white skin or silver hair--this to me seems an side effect of more of the Dor feeding them--i bet they would still glow faintly

"Maybe she could move into Rockfall, act the part. And the former lady of the house? Well, she was an inferior version, obviously. Just deal with her, take her place. It would feel right, wouldn’t it?" this quote is what made me know that her personas are each individiual and not just shallan "acting" we've seen her do this plenty of times, but here she is taking it too far if she keeps this up she could easily lose herself to one of the personalities. i could see Brightness Radiant taking over because Shallan just doesnt think she has the strength

I gotta say I am thoroughly loving Mistborn Prime. I dont know if its because so much of it is so familiar from The Final Empire but Im only half way through and already like it more than Aether of Night. Theres actually a lot more worldbuilding than I thought there'd be. I gotta recommend it, if you haven't read it yet. @Honorless this is what its like to live in Alaska. You have to wait at least a month for anything to come in the mail I ordered MP on 1/7 and still haven't received it.

I was reading Mistborn Prime and didnt make the connection until I read one line, but I think Sebruki was lifted straight out of Mistborn Prime and put in Shadows for Silence These lines are what made me think this: "Rosela had explained that after their mother’s death, Sebruki had decided that it was her job to take care of the house, and she did so with surprising skill. " "Kathin looked over the room. The floor was indeed a slight bit cleaner where she had scrubbed it, dark wood-lichen scrubbed away, but the change was barely noticeable. It looked like she had done the back wall as well, brushing it so hard that she had scarred the wood. There is something seriously wrong with this child, Kathin thought" In MP sebruki only lost one parent but she doesnt talk a whole lot and spends most of her time cleaning--most notably scrubbing the floors and walls. Sound familiar?

Ooo I like that. We know it takes a long time for spren to reproduce, and we know per WoB that the population of Dysians is only in the Dozens. And some of the High spren populations are in the sam range(probably hundreds though)
-
i don't think they're a Spren. when one cremling get separated from the rest, itll go back to being a regular cremling: albeit a weird on because it was part of a larger being. i don't think they can ascend because they're not truly their own individual. sure they have their own mind, but if one cremling is separated and lost connection to the whole, it would just be a "regular" cremling again. this, to me, says that the Cremlings, even while being "controlled" by the Aimian, theyre still theyre own individual; but now following "orders" and thats why they cant ascend also Brandon has been kind of Iffy on using the term "hive mind" he describes it as "if your finger got cut off and started acting on its own." this make me think that all the Cremlings of the "hive" view themselves as one being. when one gets too far away, its stop seeing itself as part of a larger whole and starts seeing itself as an individual again.
-
Exactly. Sadeas himself was never even a player in the game.
-
You just have to destroy most of the Hive. After losing a certain amount of cremlings they wont have enough "mind?" left to heal. That Aimian that was burnt in the vision, someone probably used Division on it.

I just don’t see Vax being a person. Khriss mentions it/them in the “initiation” section of the Ars Arcanum. So unless This “vax” has their very own magic system and their own way to initiate it, then it’s not a person.

By Preservation's gonads, that's so true I am absolutely loving the character of Kathin. Hes a more ruthless version of Kelsier. This writing style, the darker theme throughout the book is really something I wish Brandon would explore more. I love the prologue(kathin's awful upbringing) and his fraternity style Mistborn initiation. Elements like these just aren't present enough in the Published works

i think i saw a WoB or something that said that Leras would recognize Vax. that paired with the WoB that most shards have been to plenty of other worlds before settling. i think its safe to say that Leras was there too Diego98 (paraphrased) Would Leras recognize Vax or is it just like some Ati backstory?? Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased) Yeah, he would recognize Vax. Madrid signing (July 16, 2019)
