A voice snapped Avren out of his thoughts. The girl—the one with the illusions—had joined him at the back of the group, and introduced herself as Ara. “I’m Avren. It’s nice to meet you.” He paused. “Well, we’ve already met, but... well, nice to meet you again?”

^All of this. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been too nervous to post and have deleted what I wrote instead of hitting submit. (case in point: this post)

Avren walked at the back of the group, watching the others talk up ahead. Part of him wished he could join, but after what happened with Dariya... He shook his head, shoving those thoughts aside, and continued keeping watch for anyone who knew him.

I’ve always been too scared to ask people if I could be their Shardbuddy, so I don’t think I am, but I’d like to be!

I’m with Vapour on this, I’m hesitant to call people friends in case they don’t see me as one, but in my mind, I suppose I would consider someone a friend when I’m comfortable speaking to them and initiating a conversation.

Avren accepted the packages from the girl, placing them in his pack. “Thanks,” he said. “Sorry to trouble you.”

Okay I’m only partway through chapter 12 and I’m taking a break because aakajdkkeejsn but I would like to personally thank Adolin Kholin for existing.

“Well, uh, yes,” Avren answered, taken aback by this newcomer’s friendliness.

Avren entered the market, wishing that he had some sort of hood to cover his face. He looked straight ahead, but was that too stiff? He looked left, then right. No, that was too unnatural. He settled for looking down, and hoped he wouldn’t stumble into anything on the way to the meeting spot. He soon spotted familiar faces, standing with... new members? He joined them silently, remaining on the fringes of the group.
