  1. For this question, I am asking not of the utility of an object, just the simple amount of force an awakened object can exert. Does it depend on the awakener? The object awakened? For example, if the basic command “hold when thrown” is used on a shirt, and said shirt lands on someone’s face, how much would they have to exert themselves to stop themselves from suffocating? Is it a set strength?

This seems to be a simple question, yet I can’t seem to find the answer to it anywhere.

  2. Now safely behind cover, Perses scanned the area further. With the Allomancers, past the annoying seeker, all dead, he could try out the other fun part of this weapon.

Perses switched the pistol from aluminum rounds to tungsten.

From behind his cover, Perses aimed at his enemies. One by one, he shot precisely placed steel-enhanced tungsten rounds through his cover, through enemy cover, through the enemy’s chest, and through the walls behind them and into the street.

Using a mixture of carefully placed rounds and concussive force from metals around the diner, Perses silenced the fight, killing everyone but the seeker. He certainly wasn’t part of the gang, and he frankly didn’t seem to be a threat. He did, however, pull the man’s gun from his hands.

Emerging from his cover, Perses turned to face the mysterious seeker. “What is it that you’re mad at me for again? I don’t seem to remember you.”

Hmm, that's kind of a problem. Is there any way to reach out to him? I'd like my character to interact with him, or at least ose position of authority.

Sadly, I currently have no easy way of communicating with him. Assume that the current active players are me, @Lunamor, @TheRavenHasLanded, @Scars of Hathsin, @Stormlightsong, @RoyalBeeMage, and yourself. Our crew is currently not the largest, but the hope is to gather more recruits!

Sonyr dropped his books on a table. "Alright, you are gonna die here, Perses. I'd like you dead rather than in jail, so I'm willing to betray corbeau for a bit..." he growls in a quiet voice. "See ya in hell" and he pulls out a gun and shoots it directly at perses.

    @Koloss17

Perses, dodging both the presumably glass dagger and the bullet, looks at Sonyr. “Who are you?” However, in this moment of confusion, he lost track of the other threats in the room. An aluminum round hit him in the shoulder. Perses gasped in pain, and anger rose in him. Taking off his shades and tucking it into his mistcoat while avoiding further injury, Perses grinned. Let’s show them what we’re really made of.

Perses burned iron. Quickly spotting the other Allomancers in the room, including the one yelling at him, he pulled at metal behind them. At the same time, he began firing his newfound weapon in quick succession at each of them. Four rounds found their way into four allomancer’s heads. Perses raised his pistol, now relatively safe behind cover, and fired at the seeker.

Can you specify what I can fix to make this character as optimized as possible? Thanks!

I mean, at this point it just boils down to roleplaying. You have a solid base for a character, you just need to fill in the fine details. And frankly, that’s the sort of thing you do through roleplaying with the character, as there’s only so much you can do through hypotheticals. Get out there and ‘optimize’!

Oh ok. My bad. Newbie here.

Hey! Not a problem! It’s admittedly quite complex to start off with. But once you’re in, you realize that all the minor rules and norms are there for a reason (that reason being fun!).

Oh sorry, I completely forgot to mention! It is a hemallurgic power. His father was originally from the alleyverse, and he was descended from scadrians. He manifested chromium ferruchemy, but Frisian had no powers. Frisian found his father before he died, and explained that he was his son. His father believed him due to the resemblance. As a parting gift, his father allowed Frisian to take his feruchemy through hemallurgy.

Frisian couldn't afford to get off world while on the streets. He had been intending to stay on Roshar after his bond, but he decided not to go back after being pulled to the alleyverse because he thought it was perhaps Adonalsium pulling him back to his father's home.

That looks pretty good! For future reference, I would say that your merits would be

    -Major: second ideal Windrunner

    -Normal: fortune

-minor: confidence, general soldier’s training and demeanor

But other than mild formatting errors, I’d say this is Approved!

If ya haven’t check out the guide to the Alleyverse post, I would do that. Otherwise, feel free to jump on in! The collaboration thread is a great place to ask for RP, and you are more than welcome to interact with my characters (which I’d recommend talking about in either DMs or the collab thread)

It has never been an Alleyverse thing, as far as I’m aware. If you wish to pioneer its crossover into the RP, you’re free to, but it is not currently part of the Alleyverse.

Nametba, unless you have any ideas?
Appearance: aluminum husky w/ a bag slung over shoulder, (like as seen in the pmd series.)
Guild (or intended guild): dunno. got any ideas?
    Personality: clean, ace/aro.
Concept: a deity decided to make a "janitor" for the alleyverse.
Motivation (Short & long term goal): long term: find who made them. clean the alleyverse of "impurities". short term: find a place to belong to.
Merits: amature painter, swordfighter, decent at some magics and ranged weapons.
Flaws: awkward and random at times.
Relationships (Eg. Family and Friends): rumored to be the result of a shard. not that that's true or anything.
    Home Planet: the alley verse???
    Current Residence: an rv
Backstory: just kinda appeared one day. rumors were spread that he's the result of a bored shard or something else silly.
Loose ends (What is unfinished in their life?): finding out who they are. (think shadow in shadow the hedgehog.) cleaning the alleyverse.

    Alright, few things.

-I assume this is an anthropomorphic husky, which I have no qualms with, but it wasn’t explicitly stated.

-Why are they a deity? What’s the story behind that?

-What is your character counting as impurities? What’s its moral compass here?

-when you say “decent at some magics and ranged weapons” what did you have in mind?

-For reference, the home planet is in the context of the fact that many come from outside the Alleyverse, like earth, Scadrial, Detritus, etc. Now, you are perfectly allowed to be born in the Alleyverse; I just wanted to let you know the context to why that’s there.

-For current residence, an RV is a decent start, but what I really want to know is where in Alleycity they reside. New Halladren? The Spire? Mistkeep? That type of thing (list in the guide).

I have a question about the Alleys. Do the alleys lead to other cities on the world? Where is the starting city? The magic system is slightly confusing. Also is there a king of the Alleycity?

    Name: Frisian

Appearance: Strong, determined build and an intimidating face. Frisian makes you want to obey him. He has shoulder-length black hair and blazing green eyes that fade when he hasn's summoned Talamar in a while. His skin is the dark tan of his Herdazian heratige, and something about it tells you that he knows how to work hard.

    Guild: TBD

Personality: Frisian is calculating young man who sees the big city as a way to show himself off to the world. He doesn't show that on his face, however. He hopes to start as the head of the police force and take off with it, eventually building a massive mercenary force that is used primarily to police the entire Alleyverse. He expects greatness for himself, and won't settle for anything less.

Motivation: Primarily to protect the entire world. He takes his oaths very seriously. Secondarily, he wants influence over the world. He realizes that he can't directly take over the world, and perhaps it will be enough to have his mercenaries in every kingdom on the planet.

Merits: Minor: Law enforcement official, windrunner, rosharan. Major: seeking world influence.

Flaws: Frisian is power hungry. He will do whatever it takes, short of massacre, to gain influence and money. He's also insecure about this, however. He thinks that his persuit is not something a knight radiant should be chasing, despite his spren telling him that he has good intentions. This insecurity means that he tries his best to keep his ideas secret. He would be devestated if someone were to confront him with it.

Relationships: He has a squire, a teenager named Kalack. The kid is ambitious as he is, and hopes to serve at Frisian's right hand when his mercenary enpire is set up. He is very loyal, but he can't see the same value in the oaths as Frisian himself does. He doesn't understand why Frisian cares so much about protecting people. Frisian's spren, Talamar, is also supportive of Frisian. He doesn't necessarily condone Frisian's goals, but he doesn't deny that they are made with good motive.

Home Planet: Roshar (Herdaz). Kalack is from Jah Kaved.

Current Residence: None yet, though he intends to requisition a barrack when he becomes the leader of the constabulary.

Abilities: Windrunner of the second ideal. Spinner ferring.

History: Frisian is the son of a whore. He was left to the streets with a few coins almost when he could walk, and grew up in an orphanage. When he was ten, the orphanage kicked him out because he couldn't pay. As he grew up, he got more and more tired of seeing people (including himslef) get mugged, robbed, and raped. One day, he saw another kid, a couple years younger, getting beat up by some older guys. Frisian related to the boy. He had been that same boy once. So, he picked up an old plank and attacked the guys. Scared and drunk, the men surried off.

Frisian took the kid in, and soon realized that he liked protecting people. He would go around, beating up bullies and standing up for the downtrodden. He soon bonded an horonspren, and took the kid, who's name was Kalack, in as his squire. As he rose up the ranks, he found his thirst for power. Before he could reveal his powers to the monarchy, however, he was whisked away in a dream to a strange world, where portals lurked in alleys. He woke up to find that he and his squire were in that universe.

Alright, let me first answer your questions, and then I shall get on to the character itself. For future reference, these sorts of questions are best asked in the chat thread, but I do not mind all that much.

    1) the Alleys can lead to pretty much anywhere! They are tears in the fabric of the Alleyverse that are remnants of when Voidus created the world. So theoretically, yes. Now, generally speaking, you need to be quite skilled in traversing the Alleys to actually get where you want to go, and it is often quite dangerous, so few other than members of the Dark Alleys intentionally traverse them. That’s not to discourage you, just to seed a bit of worldbuilding for ya.

    2) Alleycity is the “starting” city, and for the most part that’s where the story resides. That’s not to say that you can’t go to other cities on Alleyplanet, it is just that those places are largely unexplored, and that the action is all in Alleycity. If you want to have a bit of an adventure in other cities, let me know and I can ask about some more details, but generally we keep our RP to one city.

The city has a mayor, if I recall, and you are more than welcome to give a personality and name to the currently unnamed narrator. The most powerful being in the Alleyverse is of course the virtually all powerful god Voidus, but he generally has more important things to do than interfere in the affairs and going ons of the city (also, he hasn’t been RPed in over a year).

As for the character, it’s looking pretty good! I only have a few questions:

what’s the story behind the fact that they are a spinner? It seems like an odd addition to the character. Also, how did they discover that they are a spinner on Roshar? Unless we’re talking space-age (which is allowed), the methods of discovering their Scadrian abilities are pretty slim.

It is not approved yet, but it’s pretty close!

[placeholder], the aluminum Dog. How his maker managed to awaken a larger than life-sized husky retriever (husky + golden retriever) made of aluminum, nobody knows, what was used to awaken him? also unknown, where is he from? also unknown. but he's here now. he's... alright at wielding the comically long sword he has, but is somehow very proficient in ranged weaponry. whenever he "eats" something, it, in reality just gets sent to a pocket dimension, meaning he can store things, like a car, a flamethrower, or a dead horse. (not living animals though.) he can absorb breaths, other forms of investiture, energy, etc. etc. etc. when eating or biting something. He acts akin to a real, living animal, (such as requiring sustenance,) but is, in reality, just a very complex and weird awaken. he is very much a mystery... dog? man? thing?

The idea seems interesting! However, I’d try formatting it with the character template for two main reasons:

    1) so it’s easier for me to get a full handle on what exactly the character is

    2) to give an easy opportunity to flesh out the character. I’m just fine with a bit of mystery, this is just a way to turn this general idea of a character into a more living, breathing thing.

Template (pasted from the character thread)

    Spoiler

    Name: Character Name
Appearance: A brief description of your characters. Could include height, hair and eye colour, complexion, what clothes they typically wear, how they carry themselves, etc. (Eg. A haughty man in his late thirties, lazy blue eyes, black hair with a characteristic streak of grey on the left side. He dresses in old fashioned Scadrian formal-wear and has a dueling cane perpetually in hand)
Guild (or intended guild): Please include if you have any intentions of starting in a guild or joining one shortly (Can also leave as unaffiliated, or ask in the Character discussion thread if you'd like some suggestions for a guild your character may join)
Personality: Briefly describe the characters personality. How do they react to people below them? Above them? Their equals? Is there a discrepancy between their appearance and their true feelings? Or do they wear their emotions on their sleeve? What are they passionate about and what do they hate?
Concept: A short summary of what you feel the key components of the character are, ideally should be a single sentence or even only a few words. A sociopathic doctor, a bleeding-heart assassin, a dishonorable Radiant, etc.
Motivation (Short & long term goal): What is the character aiming for? What are they trying to get done this week and what are their longer term plans? Short term motivations could be as simple as finding somewhere to live or someone to talk to, long term motivations should ideally pull from the backstory and personality, and preferably tie in to their flaw.
Merits: Characters should have three minor merits, two normal merits and one major merit. A major merit is the defining ability of your character, what sets them apart from others. This could be being a Knight Radiant, or an expert swordsman, or a genius inventor. A normal merit is a secondary but still key skill or talent. The bread and butter skills that the character uses the most frequently after their major merit. Minor merits represent rp skills (Such as being a talented singer or musician), a lesser talent (An amateur swordfighter), or a very minor magical ability.
Flaws: What problems does your character face? Do they have a physical impediment to achieving their goals? A problematic personality? Or a disadvantageous social situation? Ideally a flaw feeds into a characters long term goal, this is the thing that must be overcome in order to achieve what they are looking for.
Relationships (Eg. Family and Friends): Can be as minimal or as detailed as you wish, does your family have any family? Friends? Enemies? (These will usually be represented as flaws as well) These relationships could be NPCs or they could be other player characters, though please ensure you consult with the players in question first. Please think carefully about this section, as who the character surrounds themselves with will often influence who they are.
Home Planet: Where is your character from? Can also list a specific heritage here (Eg. Veden, Elendelian, Arelish)
Current Residence: Where does your character sleep at night? Do they rent a room somewhere (And if so how do they pay for it?), do they have a cottage, a manse, an apartment? And which district of the city have they chosen to reside in? (See our Guide to Alleycity for information about districts and existing locations)
Backstory: What has led your character to where they are? This should tie many other of these fields together, explaining their motivations and how they achieved their merits.
Loose ends (What is unfinished in their life?): What lingering threads from their backstory still hang over the character?
Links (Eg. Theme song, a spotify playlist, a pinterest mood board): Links to any resources you may have created for this character. Not mandatory but they are very fun to make

I’d also recommend taking a look at my character guide in the pinned guide to the Alleyverse!

Hello, fellow disasters! After a tough week or so, I have determined that I am 100% transfem, despite doubts I had. Unfortunately, defeating that anxiety made way for another level of anxiety, worry that I won't be able to be a real woman and my life will suck. Not really an improvement. Oh well, at least I know who I am.

    Please give me encouragement.

Hey! Let me tell you this: you will be a real woman. You are a real woman. The concept of “real” is arbitrary and stupid. But if you want to define it as “passing” or “being treated as though you were cis”, I can assure you that it is very possible. It might take a while, and you will almost certainly have a phase of not passing. And that is okay. You need to fail to improve, and transitioning is no different in that regard.

I have a lot that I can share about my experience, but the biggest is what I call the Passing Pyramid. It highlights three core elements of external appearance that generally judges how people decide your gender in their heads. There is no three that I feel go above the rest, but so long as you have two of the three aspects, I think you will generally pass among generally supportive folk. All of these big three apply to any gender, but I’ll focus on the trans femme lens.

    1) clothing. If your dress sense is more typically feminine, like wearing bras, dresses, or generally female cut clothing, you will be perceived in a more feminine way.

    2) secondary sex characteristics. This can range from a feminine hair style to body fat distribution to breast growth to how well shaved you are. Hormones make this part a lot easier, but you can certainly make strides without it.

    3) VOICE. I know voice training can be daunting, and it is very frustrating that hormones don’t help a feminine voice. However, it is a fairly crucial part to transitioning. I recommend private voice lessons if you can afford it, but if not, there are plenty of online resources to help (they will just sadly not be personalized). I highly recommend Transvoicelessons on YouTube, as she is one of the most experienced voice trainers in the field for transfemme voices.

If you would like to talk or for me to offer more personalized advice, you are more than welcome to hit up my DMs, either on here or on Discord (TheCosmerian). I wish you all the best, and know that if nowhere else, you have a supportive community here.

  15. Perses, The Corridor, Dancing with Death Diner.

    Quote

Perses entered the spacious diner, gun carefully concealed in his mistcoat. There were by his estimates close to 100 people in the room, 150 of you included people in back rooms and behind a false wall. Out of these, there were only at most 30 that Perses particularly cared about. The rest were either clients or partygoers—not worth his time.

In one swift motion, Perses raised and shot his pistol at the ceiling. “Everyone out!” He yelled. The music abruptly stopped, with the calming notes being replaced with panicked screams.

Almost immediately, around five of the staff began to open fire, including one of the musicians. Perses, with senses bursting through the roof, easily ducked under the rain of bullets. As the crowd rushed to the exit, Perses casually approached the nearest enemy.

    Good. Feed the chaos.

The man shot, as well as a few others in the room. This time, Perses burned steel, and pushed. The bullets ricocheted, with some of the bullets colliding with enemy combatants.

    “Coinshot! Drop your metal!”
Quickly, the enemies dropped anything metal on them. None of them carried much, and what they had on them was easy to remove. Clearly, they had come prepared.

However, they weren’t prepared for the Prince of the Alleys.

    @TheRavenHasLanded @Stormlightsong

  16. Btw folks, I am more than happy to have Perses interact with another character. At the moment, they are causing a fight in the Dealing with Death Diner in the Corridor. If you would like your character to be either present before the fight broke out or end up joining in due to the ruckus that was caused, you are more than welcome to. I suspect that @TheRavenHasLanded could make use of either scenario if they wished…

and @RoyalBeeMage and @Scars of Hathsin, my invitation extends to you too, as well as an interaction with Chloris is still on the table.

If anyone is interested in RPing, feel free to talk here or in DMs!

  17. Hey folks! I’m thinking of making a new Episode in Era 7. This will not have any sort of time skip (unless you want to), and is purely just going to be a new thread to RP in. The reason for this is threefold:

    1) The arcs of episode 2 are pretty much done, and so everyone is kind of in between interactions at the moment. A new thread could invite people to coordinate and start up that interaction

    2) it provides a golden opportunity for newcomers to join in if they have been eying the Alleyverse!

    3) The current thread has gotten quite long, and if someone wants to go back and read what happened, it would be nice to know that more will not be added on to that thread while they are reading it.

Again, this will not force any sort of time skip, though you are more than welcome to do a time skip of a few days or so. The only thing that this will entail is starting up a new thread.

Will that work with you folks? I’m specifically talking to @TheRavenHasLanded, @Scars of Hathsin, @RoyalBeeMage, @Lunamor, and @Stormlightsong, as they seem to be the currently active folks.

  18. Perses walked with a purpose. Through his days of waiting, he learned the location of one of the last major hideouts for the Tin Street Mafia. They cleverly hid it in the Corridor, where law enforcement is stricter, but with a more population-dense area, which allows for trouble to easily go under the radar.

The place was called Dancing with Death Diner, and to the uninformed partygoer, it was a great place to drink and enjoy live Post-Catecendre music. But underneath the surface, it was a hub for Tin Streets to make deals, get recruits, and help bridge the gap between the Mistwarren’s and Mistkeep’s corruption. He had planned to strike it later tonight, but Perses felt the need for some long awaited action.

    And so, the fun begins.

  19. Perses emerged from the Silver Dagger, weapon in hand. This feels right. The next step. However, there was one more thing that he had to grab before he could finalize his control of the Mistwarrens.

Perses’ adrenaline spiked. Good. Suddenly, he felt the urge to punch something. Perses disabled his pistol’s safety. Before going home, he needed to test his new power.
