Woah! It’s the token gay character from SA in the flesh!
-
Do you just want me to pop in in-character and see where the natural RPing takes us?
-
@Speeding Steelrunner and @Scars of Hathsin I’m thinking of having Perses run into you two. How would you want that to go down? also @RoyalBeeMage are you looking for an opening in the plot? Right now everyone’s kinda centralized, but I’m sure there’s ways to work with that.
-
Honestly I haven’t decided. I’ll probably get into the details before posting the epilogue chapter, but not long before it.
-
Btw folks as a sneak peek: I’m planning on this being the last full episode of the era with this large conflict probably being the end of it. There will be an epilogue chapter where you will be able to conclude and set up storylines for the next era, with as much of a time skip as you want for your individual character. I wouldn’t go more than a month or two, but we don’t really have an idea on how far from Era 7 Era 8 will be. This will also be where I’ll be unveiling some of what we have planning for the next era. Keep in mind though is that while I’ve been kinda acting as a chauffeur of the plot, I very much don’t want to be the definer of the plot. So feel free to come up with your own stuff. I’d recommend letting me know, as I can help you make that idea a reality, but that’s all I want to do. This is a RPG based around not having a DM, and while I seriously think that having someone take the reigns a bit is needed for the survival of the roleplay (and part of why I suspect the original RP kinda puttered out), I don’t want things to go any further than having a guide to push the plot along.

Honestly with your clear aptitude for worldbuilding and storytelling, I’m trusting pretty much whatever you make. Just make sure not to abuse that . This seems powerful, but balanced. Approved!

Perses, Mistwarrens. Something was wrong. According to the panicked bystanders, there was a blood moon in the sky, which was very concerning. Though something else was wrong. No, the blood moon wasn’t what was wrong. It was whatever had caused it. Or whoever caused it. Something is wrong in Smokestack. Perses don’t know how he knew, but he was sure of it. Whoever had caused this was in Smokestack. Burning steel, Perses flew off. ———————————————— Perses didn’t like flying. He knew it wasn’t proper flight, but few things were. But being in the air, continuously fighting the pull of gravity, terrified him. Being deprived of his senses, being too far to easily detect life, with his touch and hearing enveloped by the roaring winds. The only sense that was useful to him was his steelsense. Yet sometimes, the downsides were worth it. Perses flew overhead, entering Smokestack. The cobbled and worn buildings quickly turned into hardy housing. Nothing particularly glamorous, but sturdy. Well maintained. It was odd, being able to actually see that. It burned through his steelsightminds, but it was certainly worthwhile. All of the things that he had to intuit, to learn through hearing or feeling. To just be able to see it plainly felt like cheating. The constabulary. Perses landed, finally feeling ground again. His patchwork stitches burned in agony, but held. He would need something proper, but now wasn’t the time. He had to discover what chaos was being wreaked in his city. @Stormlightsong @Scars of Hathsin @Speeding Steelrunner @Lunamor @Longshot97

So it’s worth noting that both steel and ironsight give 360 degree vision, so I would assume that Atium works in a similar way. I’d also think that while burning Atium, their focus would be on their opponents rather than on the ground. You generally don’t burn Atium for scholarly purposes, and so the focus isn’t on the interesting quirks of the metal.

Okay! How long do you think you’ll be gone?
-
Btw @Scars of Hathsin a Crasher is very specifically an A-Steel F-Iron Twinborn. Are you looking for Skimmers?
-
Well, I think they would also require a degree of dissociation for that to work. Copperminds, from what I understand, don’t rewrite memory. Unless you are suggesting that they store their own memories somewhere, which I suppose is a thing they could do. At the very least, it seems hard. (But a very fun Alleyverse character!)
-
Well, if you would like, I can have the reason your talent isn’t working be used more. There is an opportunity for me to make Eighth feel a flicker of their talent in the not too distant future, which could inspire some thoughts about what @Speeding Steelrunner said or inspire something else in your character. Right now I’m taking a bit of a back seat to the current happenings, though Perses will join in sooner or later. But I think it’s best if I let Asylum be a singular problem for a while longer.
-
Like as an example, Perses is kinda pushing for a separation of the Mistwarrens from the districts they are technically attached to (for selfish reasons obviously), and if he succeeds in the future, that would lead to a new district forming. Obviously that’s more tame than like a civil war between a district, but with the amount of power struggles in Alleycity and the underpolicing of the districts can lead to any manner of things happening to it. Heck, Era 6’s main plot point was that the DA (I believe) forged the Wordlspike, rewriting the history of the entirety of Alleycity! With Era 7 I’m resetting the stakes, but expect things to ramp up in coming eras. And feel free to pitch ideas, as there is no one person guiding an era! I mean, with this one alone Perses was the main protagonist (Using the Sandersonian definition of the one who protags) and it has shifted for this portion of the Episode to Asylum. As the head mod, my job isn’t to set the plot, it’s to help facilitate.
-
So it would probably require a major story building event. Like-if a large or significant enough population wants to set up at the outskirts of the city, or make a deal with other districts, it could probably happen. There’s also the possibility of violent uprising… Basically new districts can very much be created, but it would need to be an RPed thing, not something that happens in the background (probably).

Thanks for letting us know! I totally get it. There’s so many other more important things than a silly little roleplaying game with strangers, and it should never feel like a chore. No hard feelings! I wish you the best, and I hope everything works out with your future endeavors.
-
Yeah idk. Inevitably it’s very small potatoes.

You’ll get withdrawal symptoms from being without pewter for a while, which means you’ll probably wake up grumpy, but that’s most of it. Spook for example didn’t seem to need to burn tin in his sleep.
-
@Speeding Steelrunner it’s not significant, but your character can’t really burn metals in their sleep. Theoretically pewter can instinctively be burnt while unconscious, like we saw Elend doing, but making a habit of sleeping with metals gives them time to digest, which ends up being quite toxic (see page 280 of TFE). So I wouldn’t think your character would want to be doing that on a regular basis.
-
I believe @Stormlightsong has an idea on how to role you in, but also things are about to go down in Smokestack, and a sudden blood moon is not a normal occurrence. I’m sure you can find a way!
-
Well, so long as you think your character could reasonably get involved in the plot, your character is approved!
-
This is looking pretty solid. My only wondering is how your character would get wrapped into the plot. Was it imagined that your character is the somewhat heroic type?

Perses looked at the radiant in disdain. All of his life, he had been underestimated, with others claiming that he couldn’t do what he wanted alone. His lack of sight holding him back. This radiant was doing the same rusting thing. Rage burned within Perses. He winced as his wounds came to his attention. Seething with rage, he knew the man was right about one thing. He was in no condition to fight. “You don’t know me. You don’t even begin to know what I am. Get you and your crew out of the Warrens, or I will see to it personally that you will know what I’m capable of.” With that, Perses burned steel. He stepped out of the building and pushed away, taking to the skies. Retreating, for now. ——————————————— Perses’ Apartment. Perses treated his wounds. The injuries went deep, and they wouldn’t heal without magical intervention. Fortunately, he knew a guy. However, he couldn't go to them now. Wincing in pain, but still storing most of the feeling, he worked to patch up his wounds. He could stop the external bleeding, at least. The wounds went deep, and the worst outcome was that they got infected. Strangely enough, his cloak almost seemed sympathetic to his pain. As he worked, he thought about what the radiant had said. He was wrong, in so many ways. He didn’t want to save the mistwarrens. He acted like he did, but he didn’t. It was a lost cause. But what did he want? Power. Power to get what you want. To never be underestimated by others that think themselves better than you. To never be bossed around by those that would rather have someone that they thought was better suited for the job, even when they were dead wrong. You want freedom, Perses. Perses felt a sudden chill in the air. Yet it wasn’t something that he could store. Almost as if this “feeling” was coming from somewhere else. Something was deeply wrong. @Stormlightsong

Perses lashed around, confused. What the hell was that? Who the hell was that? If that nuisance showed up again, he’d… Rusts, he was bleeding. Perses was strong, but as much as he tried to deny it, he wasn’t immortal. Not yet. Pushing his lifesense further, he didn’t seem find any other assailants. All he had to do was tend to his wounds. Ideally, somewhere more private. And that radiant still needed to be taught a lesson.

Thus far, these are looking really cool! RPing two characters simultaneously can be weird, as it is a challenge to differentiate them narratively and also have inner narration for them. Usually the writing format is in 3rd person limited, and while that is certainly not a requirement, it helps cohesion. My recommendation is to have their thoughts and dialogues separated, much like if two people were RPing them. It’s a challenge, but if you are willing to try to RP two separate fully fledged characters, I certainly won’t stop you. My concerns are in regards to your narrative ability (which is not a dig at your RPing skills, I frankly have no idea about them. Just pointing out that it’s complex for anyone), and less so about interacting with others. So long as you make it clear who’s who and what which person does when, you should be fine! Now on to my thoughts on the characters themselves. Jerrin: Steelrunners, by nature, are going to be really powerful. I am appreciative of the synergy with electrum, though. (for those reading and unaware, F-steel increases reaction speed, which A-electrum lacks but can appreciate. There’s also an interaction with burning metals faster, thereby increasing the effect of a burned metal in the same amount of time, but that isn’t particularly relevant for electrum, as for electrum you are still burning the same amount relative to yourself, if that makes sense). Overall, I think this won’t be an issue so long as you’re careful of godmodding. However, something that caught my eye was that your character likes continuously burning electrum. Have you considered that they might be a budding savant? Perhaps that’s something to theorize about and potentially incorporate. Your call though! If you want some help theory crafting about that, I’m totally down to help! Thav: A sparker is also quite the powerful ability. In tandem with Jerrin, I can see a lot going on. However, I suspect it will work out. Both of these characters seem interesting, and it is clear you put a lot of thought into them. I have two concerns, however. 1) this is basically a reiteration of the previous point about running two characters. Now, a few people have multiple characters atm, including myself, so that’s less of an issue. It’s when you haven’t RPed in the Alleyverse before and that you have two characters that will pretty much always be interacting with each other that gives me pause. This is not to say that you can’t do that, it’s just to say that there will be a lot expected from you. I would want to make sure that you aren’t crowding out whoever you are RPing with and that your characters serve more than just combat purposes. Having interesting individual characters that feel real is what the Alleyverse is all about, and when you have characters joined at the hip like you do, it can be hard to rise up to that standard (again, especially when this is your first time in the Alleyverse). 2) these are both characters that do a lot more than other characters in the same amount of time. One can think much faster than most, which can lead to them making descisions and reactions much faster, and the other can do things faster than others. With these in tandem, I can see it be overwhelming for someone you are RPing with. Additionally, making sure to avoid godmodding, allowing the other characters time to react, is incredibly important for this style of RP. Obviously the characters you will be RPing with will probably have less time to react to your characters’ actions, but you want to make sure that they still have that window. As for backstory, things are looking pretty good, with my only wonderings being a) how was the team formed, and b) how did your characters join the team. How about this: I will not yet be approving your character, but if it’s alright with you (and when you’re available), we RP a small scene through PMs. It won’t be a substantive scene (something akin to your characters approaching a bounty target), but it will help you get a hang of your RPing style and how that would interact with others. Does that sound like an okay arrangement?
