    “Take your time first. I dunno how long it takes for that to settle. You could open it up again.” Kaeni then stood back up, leaning against a rock and puffing heavily. The glengal was fending off Mercury and E;la in a deadly impasse, trying to pry out the dagger with its pincers to no avail. Even with its divided attention the monster was holding its own, and neither of her companions had seemingly dealt any damage at all. Their other companion… I’ikeq, was it? They were crouched behind a rock, hiding away. Probably a smart move. Maybe at this point they could just run for it… No. Not that. Not leaving Mercury behind. She had to fight and she knew it, but… gods, the quivering in her bones. She couldn’t seem to keep her jaw still, and both legs threatened to buckle and fall. She’d slowed down; fallen away from the battle. To fight back right away against a sudden attacker was one thing, but to push towards an enemy of her own volition… “Come on, Kaeni, be brave,” she whispered, “Be brave… be strong…” @Szeth_Pancakes @PyroPhile

    So it just occurred to me that you're thirteen and may or may not be comfortable with particularly gory scenes.

    I dunno if that's the case with the whole White Iron thing or not. Could totally just be in my head. But if it is then imma let you know that it's totally okay if you just want to skip that bit and move along. Muchly understandable.

    If not then disregard this.

    And go reply to Kaeni so I can get back to killing giant scorpion monsters

    It took everything she had not to squeeze her eyes shut as she pressed her blazing hand against the wounds, searing them closed effectively. The bleeding stopped with the hole charred to a black lump, already blistering around the edges. The blood that remained was still wet, and with the bruises and raw red skin around it his wound looked so repugnant that it was hard not to cough up her insides and spit them over her shoulder. The whole ordeal was awful. It sent her skin crawling and stomach roiling. But the wound was now closed. "You're okay?" Kaeni panted. @PyroPhile

    Vance eventually tracked down where the others had gone, bumping into Quest. "Oh hey. Where's Kealie?" @Mr. Misting

    But the glengal was far from unintelligent. It kept its wounded side facing away from its new opponent, keeping her at bay with its pincers and tail. A couple it times it even spat a hissing poison from its mouth: inaccurate, slow, but certainly far from harmless.

    I cannot express enough just how perpetually sad I am right now.

    It isn't even like I'm super miserable and sobbing and suff. No, I'm almost fine - I'm just definitely not.

    It's like when you're just sick enough to feel nasty, but not sick enough to feel right lazing around in bed and watching dumb movies all day. Like, you want to be productive and do a bit of homework, but you can't. You're at that perfect threshold of sickness that provides zero room for productivity and a maximum amount of wasted hours.

    Like that.

    Why can't I just keep going until I break down and cry? Why can't I just get over this already? I can't let myself just lie down and mope, but I'm too depressed to get anything done. It feels like someone locked up all my emotions behind iron bars, and I can kinda reach in and touch them but not enough to grab hold and pull them back out.

    This sucks. Life sucks. I'm so bored and so sad and so tired.

    So far I've consoled myself by watching Jujutsu Kaisen (which didn't work because I got to the sad episodes), trying to do some RP (which didn't work because I desperately need to write some combat but Pyro keeps expertly dodging my summons to White Iron), reading other peoples' writing (which didn't work because my brain is functioning at 1% total capacity and can't comprehend even the most basic aspects of narrative structure), then burning my eyes out on a computer screen in the dark typing this out (which didn't work because I want to scream but not enough to actually scream and it's bad and it's awful and GAK).

    The most wonderful time of the year.

    "Downstairs somewhere." Vance started out the door and into the hall towards the stairs.

    "Aight. Just drop the connection and you should fall back out." With that, Vance vanished.

    "Hrm... probably should get back to the others. I doubt we'll find anything more interesting than this."

    "Certainly. This thing is useful for just about everybody." Vance managed to get the flow of energy from it back under control, just about cutting off the magical power influx. "For now, I think we should probably keep going; or get back with Quest and Kealie at the very least."

    Vance held it out for a couple seconds longer, then pulled it back. "Yeah. It's... they're something."

    Vance huffed, then held it out. "Just one hand on it. If you explode that way, hopefully it'll only be half as bad."

    "From this thing, I don't think it's worth the risk. Besides... there's only a limited amount of energy in that thing, even though it's quite a lot." Vance took in a breath, then reached out and grabbed the staff. Its energy began coursing through him, but he cycled it right back into the gem for the time being. "We'll keep it on hand for now. I imagine it'll be good for emergencies."
