Out of all of that lore mumbo jumbo, the one thing I actually did already know is that balrogs are Maiar, so let’s not pretend they aren’t.

See, but the Balrogs are conceived of Morgoth: a fallen god. Gandalf's patron goddess, Nienna, is still very much alive. Not to mention that Gandalf has a few secret weapons on him including a scudding Ring of Power.

I thought the Balrogs were corrupted Maiar, not 'conceived of Morgoth'.
