Hello, I'm currently writing my first character and I'm searching for a way to get him into the alleyverse without knowing anything about what it is, so I would like to know if it would be possible for the Nightwatcher to send someone in the alleyverse as their boon?
-
Actually, I just tagged Rushu because I think she would like to see the the character sheet of a new member in her guild. As for the alley part I did not understand what was an alley, I just wanted that my character found the Alleyverse without knowing a thing about what it was. I will rewrite a less dangerous reason
-
Ok, this is my firs character in any kind of RP so hope I did not do everything wrong^^ I guess I should tag @Rushu42 since my character is supposed to enter in her guild.
-
Thanks you, I'm not the best at naming thing^^
-
Ok, so even assuming the F-Copper medallion cost as much as F-Copper my character is at 165 points before factoring the weaknesses so it should be under 150 in the end, just to finish his backstory and find a name. (Any advice on naming a Terris?)
-
Excuse-me if it is not the right place to ask this. I'm currently trying to create my first character in the Alleyverse and I need some precisions about how much point some objects would cost: my character would have a scholarship level of "skilled" but would also be copper ferring with unkeyed metalminds that make his scholarship level to "expert" and a medallion granting copper ferruchemy so he can share his copperminds with others. So how much would having these item coast? Are some of them strait out forbidden? Also would F-cooper and A-tin be consider a Complimentary Twinborn Combination?

There is also that time were Adolin tell Renarin that as a Radiant, he is already doing the will of the Almighty and Renarin is not conviced. (it's around the moment Renarin get his shardblade, also Renarin comment that "Glys was unsure they could do it")

Well since aluminium is a bad metal to make weapons with it would probably only be used by a specific group of fused (a bit like the hazeliker) so they would not be a lot of this type of weapon. (although I mostly told how I would kill a herald, not sure that's how Odium did it)
-
How to kill a Herald? Use aluminium, investiture cannot heal a wound with aluminium inside, and as aluminium can be soulcast finding some would not be a problem.
-
Well actually no, there is steal with more than 5% metallic additions, for example your knife contain around 15% chromium. But in term of carbon you cannot have more than 2% carbon, otherwise it's called cast Iron. Tho these were the mass percentage, if you decide to use the number of atoms instead then carbon can go up to 8,7% and you will have 5% carbon atom as soon as you have 1,1% carbon mass, a lot of steel are under that limit (most stainless steels for example) but be careful to check

Flux: The Magic System for my Novel, Windswept
mathiau replied to Lunu’anaki's topic in Creator's Corner
I have a few questions : Does infused matter loose it's power over time? if not your system allows people with both infusion and shifting to create some quite powerful like an invisibility shield (infuse water with decreased visibility, put it in a cast with the for of a big shield then transform it to metal), does your world have an underworld market for them? Does shifting conserve mass? if yes, do you have any trick to mitigate the massive amount of air created when shifting anything into it? Also, does your story have any celtic inspiration ? Anyway your stroy looks good, I will send you my mail if you still accept alpha readers On the same topic most stones are composed of of bunch of little crystals -
why is aluminum resistant to investiture?
mathiau replied to Kalaksbreath's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Actually goldmind could store "closeness to your identity/perceived self" without it storing "closeness to THIS identity/perceived self", the perceived self you get closer to would in that case be chosen at the moment you tap in it. Your second point hold tho -
why is aluminum resistant to investiture?

Anything liquid can be split in part (you poor a part in a glass and not the rest) so while it can be undone it can be damage, not like aluminium. While it is possible that the hypothetical physical-resistant metal is less insanely resistant than aluminium (silver can be corrupted by shades) it would need to be more resistant than that to be usable. Also mercury is only liquid at room temperature+pressure but not sure a physical-resistant metal would need to be resistant in settings men cannot live (which kind of undermine my "cannot be fused" argument in the last post, oops) -

It would need to be an imaginary metal (or non-metal), every thing else can be physically fused/destroyed. It would probably end up as some kind of cosmere adamantium. (so it cannot be lead, sorry @Honorless) -

I would expect any wound to the soul/spirit to put you on a timer, whether or not they touch the identity. Also bloodmaking can save you from withering and if I understand bloodmaking and regrowth correctly it modify the body so it is closer to your identity (which is why you can't heal wounds that are too old as you now consider them as part of you) so I would expect withering is not corrupting identity Although if the withering IS corrupting identity, it could be possible that the grey part of the body cannot be cured bloodmaking can stop it the from spreading (as the spreading line would not have a corrupt identity yet) (reference for bloodmaking healing shade withering https://wob.coppermind.net/events/76-shadows-of-self-chicago-signing/#e6374) -

Wait, shades corrupt Identity? I meant that if Silver protect from cognitive effects and Aluminium from spirituals ones they should not be able to protect from the same effects but I had not thought mixed effects could exists. -

mathiau replied to Kalaksbreath's topic in Cosmere Discussion
An aluminium misting can stop the withering from a shade so I feel like the "Aluminium resists spiritual change, Silver resists Cognitive" classification doesn't really work (https://wob.coppermind.net/events/76-shadows-of-self-chicago-signing/#e6374) -
why is aluminum resistant to investiture?
mathiau replied to Kalaksbreath's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Actually what I meant by "magically" was that killing people with a sheathed sword supposed to be very hard (you must kill by blunt force with a 1kg object not meant for that) so I expected that "killing with the sheath on" was one of Nightblood powers Also thank @Honorless for the Sliver topic -

why is aluminum resistant to investiture?

Well thank you for that information (tho I've always felt like Szeth was using it sheathed and it cut through thing by magic, which is odd if it's an aluminium sheath) -
why is aluminum resistant to investiture?
mathiau replied to Kalaksbreath's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I am pretty sure the metal of which Nightblood's sheath is made of is of is still RAFO (tho the best quote have to offer is one where Brandon say it may not be silver https://wob.coppermind.net/events/139-general-signed-books-2017/#e5131) Also we must remember that aluminium is NOT the only investiture-resistant metal, there are also silver (https://wob.coppermind.net/events/175-oathbringer-houston-signing/#e8423) and whatever the shardblades's sheath are made of (https://wob.coppermind.net/events/261-oathbringer-edinburgh-signing/#e8780) So it is very possible it used to be just a bit stronger than silver (enough that using it to shatter Adonalsium would seems like a feasible idea) and then got better because it was used to kill Adonalsium (but then we need an explanation as for why it was resistant in the first place) -
Oh. Then that either means Patji have claimed weirdly close to Khriss' essays or that he's not on FotS. If it is second Obrodai could be FotS and the Avatar he's referring to some kind of forerunner.

why is aluminum resistant to investiture?
mathiau replied to Kalaksbreath's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I would think it was the metal used to kill Adonalsium because it's resistant to investiture, not that it is resistant to investiture because it was used to kill Adonalsium -
Well I actually did, I had a lot of time on my hands this year^^ I would say my favourite book is Oathbringer, especially the "Unity" moment I definitely will As for my theories I think putting them under spoiler is better here

Why Odium is Passion (and why Odium is not Passion)
mathiau replied to Ixthos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
And what about Odium is hatred and his focus is "strong emotions or/and fellings"? (I'm not sure pain is a feeling a Odium seems to have some power over it) It would explain why hatred is not obvious in the rhythms, in the same way preservation is for from obvious in allomancy.
