Welcome to the Shard! Yeah, the unpublished works are full of typos, word repetition and redundancies, grammatical errors, weird turns of phrase, words that don't quite fit with what the author wants to convey, etc. They can be a bit difficult to get through for people who are sensitive to these things.

A lot of the links here don't work anymore actually, and mycoltbug has been inactive for a really long time. This is outdated and we need a new resource page like this.

Using Cohesion to create Physical wormholes

Can the Surge of Transportation only connect the Physical and the Cognitive?

No, the Oathgates also used Realmatic transition, as did the Ashyn to Roshar migration That is also how the Surge of Transportation works Seeing as Oathgates use the same fundamentals as Elsecalling What would be the point in using the (hypothetical) Spiritual versions of these Surges for this purpose when the Spiritual Realm can already facilitate the same? But it's nice to see speculation regarding how the Surges could perhaps be put to use in order to achieve interstellar travel through the Physical Realm. I've only seen theories regarding the Metallic Arts and Aons to achieve the same. I think it's high time someone did some proper theory-crafting on the matter.

Are you suggesting direct manipulation of the fabric of space-time? I think Investiture could do this kind of stuff, but it would probably take more than that to make it possible (& safe!) Right now, the other two Realms and the Surge of Transportation provide a more easily achievable and safer means of travel

I'm gonna copy over my response from this topic (https://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/90305-is-there-a-brandon-book-that-explains-the-shards/): If you're up to date on all Cosmere books, then go ahead and read up on the Coppermind. The book that is supposed to talk about the Shards, "Dragonsteel" hasn't been released. It's an upcoming project of Brandon's. Among the published books, your best bet would be the aforementioned Arcanum Unbounded: a collection of short stories set across various planets in the Cosmere, they contain short paragraphs explaining the planet's history & magic. There's a short but succinct explanation in Mistborn: Secret History by Khriss, as others have already mentioned, that you can look forward to. There's also The Emperor's Soul, which I cannot recommend enough, it contains a good, simple explanation of the 3 Realms by Shai. Aon Sheo, we don't actually know what it does Let's not forget that Elantrians can apparently make items like the Connection sphere and Fortune sphere Speaking off, how they end up hacking the magic to make it work off-world is also a concern
