  1. I know that gravity still has an effect, but the point is that normally, if you were going fast and angled your hands to push air downwards, the drag would also slow you down, and lift is dependent on velocity. If drag can be eliminated, it wont slow you down, only the direction change will. Plus, using abrasion allows you to have a much faster speed than is normally possible. You could start out going much faster, and not be slowed down by the air.
  2. I like how the steward had too many rings. Mistborn:
  3. Friction-less air will still provide lift, and the only thing slowing down your forward movement would be moving up. She doesn't need any propulsion during a flight like this, but she needs to start out going fast, which isn't very hard for an edgedancer. In fact, she would even need the bottom of her arms to be unSlicked; she could control the air movement by tilting her arms and hands like the flaps on a plane. ...right? If we could get somebody in this thread that knows a lot about physics of lift in a zero-viscosity fluid, that would be great.
  4. With the surge of Abrasion, would Lift be able to give lift to herself? If she spread out her arms, removed resistance from the top side, and (maybe) increasing it on the bottom?
  5. Why wouldn't a Herald work? We have had both a Taln POV and an Ash POV so far.
  6. Something that confuses me is that "this book... starts with all the characters together--then splits into three groups of viewpoints." I assume Venli is a viewpoint character, but how is that possible if they all start off together?
  7. I don't think this would work because Nightblood's effect doesn't really involve your spiritweb getting corrupted; it just breaks your spiritweb down into raw investiture and consumes it.
  8. MBSH and the Lego Movie
  9. Another thing that the Wandersail story is very similar to is Szeth's struggle the first two books. He kills other people because it is commanded of him, then later discovers that he should have never been made Truthless, then feeling the guilt from all of his murders.
  10. Brandon has previously stated awakening to be an end-neutral magic system, and this seems to hold for awakening's passive effects from the heightening, but does not seem to explain the kinetic effects. He has said that this classification system is not totally accurate. I think that awakening could be better described in parallel to allomancy and feruchemy, the two magic systems we (or at least I) understand the best so far.** Awakening components: Breath - Investiture and Connection. Breath is known to be a form of Investiture, and it provides Connection to the Shard. Relation to allomancy - Being an Allomancer. Allomancers have there powers as a result of a strong, specific Connection to Preservation. Relation to feruchemy - Tapping a metalmind. This is most similar to tapping Identity. Although Breath has a different effect than Identity, when you receive it, it stays stuck to you until you use it. Color - An extra cost. Something that gets used up, while not providing a significant amount of possible fuel for magic. A - The metal is "burned away," but doesn't provide the Investiture behind the allomancy. Command - Intent and key. You have to be trying to say a command, it has to be said a specific way, and you need to visualize its effect. A - You decide to burn a metal, and the metal has to be a specific alloy/element. F - Same as A but with tapping/storing in place of burning. A host - The Breath needs something to hold it, and things close to life are ideal. F - Attributes are stored as Investiture in metalminds. Fuel - Heightenings don't need this and are the "neutral" part of awakening--a natural, passive effect of the Investiture. On the other hand, something needs to be fueling BioChromatic entities. Types I and IV both consume Breath. Types II and III cannot be powered by Breath because they output energy without consuming any Breath. This leads me to believe that they are likely powered directly by Endowment's Investiture. A - Powered directly by Preservation's Investiture - similar to BioChromatic entities II and III. F - Fueled by the attributes of your body that have been converted to Investiture, but it is facilitated via another Investiture source - similar to Heightenings. Surgebinding - Consumes Stormlight to fuel their magic - similar to BioChromatic entities I and IV. (hmm... not like we've seen this similarity before... *cough*Vasher and Nightblood*cough*) **Okay... I compared it to Surgebinding too.
  11. Is this supposed to say Susebron?
  12. I didn't put Stump because she wasn't a part of the Knights Radiant; she was just a surgebinder (I think).
  13. A couple of these, like some that are Bridge 4 are disputed on whether they are knights or not, but I'm putting them here anyway for the sake of the poll. I chose Nale.
  14. The coppermind page has most of what we know about speaking High Imperial. https://coppermind.net/wiki/High_Imperial
  15. The difference between gold vs atium storing is that atium stores youthfulness, while gold stores your rate of healing. So you still "snap back" to a normal state after you stop tapping either of these. When you stop tapping atium, you return to your normal age, and when you stop tapping gold, you return to your normal rate of healing. (Although of course the unnatural healing rate of gold allows some stuff to heal that your body wouldn't normally be able to.) SA:
  16. Wasing not good ising of some.
  17. This is a very old thread, but there is a very recent post on the topic you're asking about here:
  18. When he taps the metalminds, he is getting a temporary change in his age. If you compound steel, you are not going to have a permanent speed increase. If you stop tapping it, there will no longer be the change. This is also one reason he got "less efficient" as he aged. His spiritual age got older and older, so he had to compound more often to stay looking young.
  19. The Shin might have let Nale take his back. They still think of him as a deity (Nin-son-god), and there seems to be artwork of him retrieving it. The Relief of Nalan'Elin
  20. We don't know how many breaths Azure's Blade took, which is part of why I mentioned it, but it's still just speculation. We do now have confirmation that he wants it back, although that doesn't necessarily mean it has magical properties.
  21. So, necro here, but there is relevant information in Oathbringer. Azure's blade seems to be awakened, but doesn't seem to have Nightblood's properties. Is it possible that Nazh's knife is similar to her Blade?
  22. As far as we know, the Shin have 7 Honorblades. Jezrien's blade is currently in the possession of Vyre, Nale has his own, and the location of Taln's is unknown (As it was swapped with a different Shardblade sometime between the end of WoK and WoR).
