  1. Part of something would be interesting but I have no idea how it would work. My working theory is that it is one of Odium's emissary spren(like Ulim). I am REALLY REALLY hopping that they sunk it at a particular place as a security measure as opposed to just dumping it like idiots. Agreed. I wonder if his smallness is caused by genetics or malnutrition. I think it more probable they want a more precises and accurate terminology. Voidbringer is a dangerously catch all term that applies to most sentient races on Roshar.
  2. It is possible the Moalach spent most of his time in Shinovar back in the day. It would also explain that quote. The Shin understands what the diagram is trying to do.
  3. Don't you guys know any better! YOU DON"T THROW DEMONS IN THE OCEAN!
  4. And thank you
  5. DIEEEEEE!!!
  6. There is and possibly. This is generally interpreted as a reference to what the diagram itself is doing(killing in order to get information that will save a few lives for a little while longer) but like most rattles it is ambiguous. A good point that we should have considered. The sleepless are very good at spotting radiants and others of import. It could also reference fears they have.
  7. I think we should add (d) The reasons the singers began to hate humanity. Shallan's memory is her greatest asset and weakness. Her ability to perfectly recall things is incredibly useful but also served as a primary trauma that lead to her developing DID. What could she know?
  8. A frightened child who knows something extremely important. No wonder Shallan has issues. I think it is talking about the fact that no one has answers for Kaladin. Unlike our typical hero his mentors don't know almost everything. He can only figure things out for himself. "Her ancestors" has a double meaning though. It could refer both to the listeners and the fused. Navani is an organizer of information. She usually does not make it herself but she moves it to the right places or causes it to be used in the right ways.
  9. I hear this one a lot actually. You can simply adjust the amount of gunpowder used for this. Gunpowder is also not useful because it is particularly versatile or impressive it is just cheep and easy to produce. Heck early firearms were worse then bows. However point and shoot could be learned in six weeks while the logistics of teaching a good archer took several years.
  10. I am going to cross off medicine as Sazed has access to an entire medical library in his head. Normal people do not. All of the other things you talk about are not the result of good technology but rather abundant slave labor and a lack of enemy nations. Limelight just happens when you more or less burn the right type of rock. It is actually even less impressive when you consider that the technology required to make it is electricity meaning TLR could easily have cut costs with even the smallest amount of R&D. We think. Neither would be available at Silence's place anyway and we don't actually know neither exists. I will concede we have not learned about Threnody much but they have tax laws which imply a lot of bureaucracy and we have yet to see what one of their major population centers looks like. I kind of excluded them because we don't really know anything about them. What about them? All of these planets do have centers of learning(other then early mistborn). In fact I think in 50 years or so Roshar could easily jump to first or second place. It is just that research on Roshar is heavily concentrated and directed pretty narrowly and has lots of barriers.
  11. BAM would make much more sense for Shallan's mission. The sibling "withdrew" it was never as far as we know imprisoned. I would also probably task the spren with caring for such a dangerous prisoner rather then trusting a more unpredictable human agency. Finally given that Gavilar was looking for ways to restart a desolation it would make sense that he tried looking for her.
  12. Mistborn era one is really incredibly primitive. Bronze age China had more innovation and was much better organized. We don't actually know what wealthy people on Threnody live like or what technologies they use. They do have steel but they can't do combustion engines for obvious reasons. Roshar actually is quite primitive in many respects. Most people are farmers combined with fabrails that are only available to the wealthy who are actually not that impressive. Of course magic messes with everything we do. Using this internet definition. I would actually say Roshar. Mistrust of surgery, the mysticism surrounding fabrail science, and the lack of centers of learning that support new commercial sectors are all indicators. Also most of their most impressive stuff is really salvaged and reworked from the Heralds and Radiants. Rysn's babsk Vstim is at the absolute cutting edge but he is the only individual we have seen use fabrails for commercial reasons rather then personal comfort or warfare.
  13. It is an interlude. The interludes will not take place for quite a few chapters as they must come after part one. In OB that was after 28 chapters and we are still only at 15. Assuming the same distribution between our five PoVs Kaladin will still have another three or four chapters to try other options.
  14. It does bring up a funny AU where Dalinar is in the devotary of Nale and assumes that Nale must be the one they were all talking about. However biased he is Dalinar is correct that in terms of raw willpower you go looking for the enlisted soldier.
  15. True. I really hope we get to a point in the cosmere where it is just one bratty shard putting up a wall and humans trying to cut through it.
  16. Dyson spheres are ineffective at actually blocking travel from a solar system. Most models have them being "paper" thin. She might try and kill everyone off and start again but I think it more likely she will try and make one mono culture that contains every group in the cosmere.
  17. That would actually make a lot of sense. Autonomy blockading any shardworld that looked like it would export significant technologies would explain a lot about the cosmere. It also increases the importance of Roshar if true. She might want to block them as well but the number of shards already in attendance means doing so would be difficult to impossible.
  18. Sure. Except we know some worldhoppers travel with guns. Meaning that cosmere aware Rosharans as well as rosharns that travel to say scadrail should know what a gun is and come back with the ability to make one. Nalthis is even worse in some respects. Imagine Nalthis's customs agency not knowing what a gun was.
  19. What particular microbe? Decomposition absolutely must exist on roshar. Dalinar comments that before heatrails they burned wood and plenty of people still do use heatrails. They also soulcast and chop lumber. It is not just a status symbol. Rosharans might be more interested in fabrails but if a couple of country rosharan nobbles saw a firearm I would imagine a repeat of the exact same thing that happened in ancient Japan. Nalthis of course does not even have fabrails and there exists absolutely no reason roshar could not have both.
  20. None of the components of gunpowder are chemically complex and all are highly distinctive. Soulcasting would not be a challenge. Despite it being somewhat expensive on roshar people do also burn wood. I think wood houses being expensive is partially because of the inflated upkeep costs due to highstorms. I can make saltpewter from scratch. All it takes is two years some, urine and decade plants and surfer has to be available on roshar or humans could not live there. Nalthis of course has an earth biosphere so same methods should work.
  21. Guns are really not hard to reverse engineer. If trapped on Nalthis I could make a crude one with the cooperation of some financial backers and at Roshar's current non magic tec level earth cultures already had guns.
  22. This is a very good question that has been bugging me for some time. Given the plethora of guns on Scadrial why don't we see any on Nalthis or Roshar? In fact why aren't Roshar and Nalthis manufacturing their own guns?
  23. Experimentation indicates that parshemen left to their own devices will just wait around doing nothing according to Gavilar's accounts. While cultural superiority can be pretty strong I don't think it is strong enough that people would ignore a possible slave uprising or desertion. Most slave holding societies have deeply entrenched fears of this despite any bravado.
  24. True but if you have to guess about one of the Heralds being the odd one out on that description you would probably guess Taln with maybe a bone thrown to Chana. Even today it is mentioned in passing that elitists look down a bit on Taln's devotery as a place for common people(ordinary soldiers). You also have to keep in mind just how well every Vorin knows the Heralds(at least in myth). Remember they count based off Heraldic names. Dalinar can probably recite dozens of stories about the different Heralds in his sleep.
