  1. If that is true then should not all the great spren have counterparts?
  2. Maybe they can't be. Taln has not tried to summon his blade yet. If they work anything like normal shardblades he should be able to.
  3. The Windrunners I have always seen as sock troops, scouts, and forward commanders. Stonewards are (in my view) meat shields. Their job is to just take as much damage as possible and keep fighting anyway. The Dustbringers(in my mind) are middle managers. They don't lead. They don't have vision. They keep everyone motivated and together. Kaladin is a great leader. He has managed to instill discipline and gain respect. He looks out for everyone and does his best to keep from harm. However whose job was it to take care of Teft(this is the most pointed example)? They noticed but they had trouble doing much. Bridge four has consistently had trouble with moral. The Lightweavers provide information and spiritual sustenance(inspiration). The Truthwatchers look after everyone physically. The Bondsmiths keep the elements working together. Elsecallers give good advice. Windrunners go out and lead others. Stonewards absorb punishment. Skybreakers keep order. Edgedancers make sure no one is left behind. Willshapers give new ideas. Where is the heart the passion the omf! Dustbringers!
  4. Personally I think her name comes from a cultural association of her with death. As in "all save the Heralds must dine with the Nightwatcher"
  5. I think that the Oaths existed to some degree but were codified and more narrowly focused by a bondsmith(the way leadership and good leaders always existed but was codified by Nohadon latter).
  6. This happens before Denth uses that move.
  7. Sure but if you have a few hundred people shoot at the shardplate is is going to break quickly,
  8. Coinshots have limited height capability. As soon as aircraft can consistently beat that they become better militarily(by better in this case I mean that each side is going to have to have some). All of the technology exists for flight and they even have some of the theory(Wax mentions that the words of founding say flight is possible). All that you really need is a smart inventor some funding and either a war, threat of war, or a economic imperative really. Side note. Speed bubbles and or F-steal(speed) would be incredibly useful for this. Also the ability to decrease your weight would be really nice.
  9. I meant the end of the book where he has just discovered that Gav is still alive. Elhokar is dead. A living family member to remind you about how badly you screwed up is going to be hard. Anyway we are getting off topic.
  10. Remember. Vahr only had a few hundred breaths. The fifth heightening is several times that and is more likely to be significant. Thanks for the WoB. Doesn't Vivenna give Vasher a bunch of breath to help him get back on his feet?
  11. Kaladin suffers from depression. It goes on and off. He met Gavinor on a good day when he had already given up on him and his squires. So when meeting him he felt great. Eventually he is going to have a bad day and then he is going to feel terrible about not doing more.
  12. Personally I am hopping for some kind of passion increase/ intimidation ability. I think Dustbringers should be the kind of people responsible for leading the charge and making everyone next to them feel 10 feet tall. Not a leader but an idealist. Kind of like a passive rioting.
  13. That tracks with the real world. Think about all the assassinated voices of moderation, diplomacy and unity are out there...
  14. The yes was a "this is what I meant statement." Also really?
  15. The guy that Vasher killed early in book 1. He held off torturers for quite some time and in the annotations it says that the personality of the givers helped. Also returned are faster and stronger. Breath might help you heal faster too. My understanding of identity is that it makes you harder to influence through both magical and nonmagical means. After all. Soothing is not really mind control. The prologue of Warbreaker disagrees. Vahr and Vasher both recognized that the former would succumb eventually, the only question was whether he'd give his Breath to someone he hated, or to someone he really really hated. Bear in mind that the torturers were being very careful to keep him alive and in a state to say the necessary Command so the fact that he'd resisted for two weeks doesn't really tell us anything. He held out for quite some time though.
  16. Congratulations. You are not Kaladin. When you look at Gavinor you can think "good on those Windrunners! They got this one right." When Kaladin looks on Gavinor. He thinks "if only I had done better."
  17. I am fairly sure that people with a lot of breath are resistant to torture. They might have a greater identity because they are more invested.
  18. Because then he can keep feeling like an inadequate failure.
  19. Yes.
  20. I prefaced that by saying it was a personal pet theory. Not something I could verify the accuracy of. Our discussion has gotten rather out of hand. I like to chase the rabbit. I believe our discussion is already over.
  21. The WoBs indicate that the metallic arts do include a method for FTL travel when used effectively. The Alcubierre drive is a theoretical FTL engine that works like the following. Think of space-time like a conveyor belt. We all normally run up and down on the conveyor belt without noticing it move. It is forbidden to run faster then the speed of light on the belt itself but no such law forbids the belt from moving.
  22. This seems accurate.
  23. No. But Cultivation spren form Edgedancers not Truthwatchers. He is a Truthwater spren. We don't know their name.
  24. It does seem rather stupid when you stay it like that. Kodos. However my point was that if a person disagrees with your supposition they don't even have to address the theory. Ideally a theory should be based on as little supposition as possible(if you are trying to be accurate that is).
