A flower. Such a simple object, but it meant so much. And it could kill him. So much easier than jumping. He picked it up, slowly raising it towards his mouth.

Jenny immediately tried to grab his arm to stop him, then yank the flower out of his hand. She made no attempt to be gentle. Stupid, stupid Jenny. She’d handed him a deadly poisonous flower. Death followed her everywhere. It was no wonder people were scared of her. They should be scared.

Jenny was back. He didn’t know what she was doing there. Hopefully she wouldn’t talk to him. He didn’t think he could stand a confrontation.

This was for best. It had to be.

He wasn’t hurting himself because she was back. There had to be something more she could do. Maybe she could start everything over again. Go back to the very beginning. Jenny grabbed a flower out of her bag, then wordlessly slid it across the floor to Ed.

  3. Out of the corner of her eye, Jenny saw plants of some sort sprouting. She tried to keep facing away, but couldn’t. It was so hard to stay away. She risked a glance over her shoulder and saw that Aaron was covering the crack in the window. Ed was looking at that and crying. Had he… oh no. Was staying away not enough? Was she hurting him by leaving? She’d hurt him by staying, too. No matter what she did, she’d hurt him. But she couldn’t just watch him hurt.

She walked back over to Ed and sat down. She was barely in arms reach and didn’t look at him directly. This way, she could grab him if he tried to do anything.

“It’s…it’s for the best. I’m sorry. I wish it didn’t have to be this way. But it is.”

He didn’t look up at her. Instead, he twisted his body, blood soaking his bandages. It felt…not good, but it made him feel better. Because he felt a fraction of the pain he deserved.

    “Please don’t hurt yourself.”

This was her fault. Jenny was hurting Ed. She had to stop him. There was only one way she knew how. She stood up, quickly backing away.

”I’ll… I’ll leave. Just please don’t do that.”

She couldn’t run. She was on a quest. The other questmates were relying on her, the world was relying on her. Jenny couldn’t flee. So she instead scrambled over to a place as far as she could get from Ed while still staying in the general area. She sat down facing away from him, knees pulled up against her chest and tears flowing freely.

  5. Just now, Weaver of Lights said:

“I…I wish we could stay together. But…it’s me. And I can never be enough. I can never be strong enough, good enough, never the one you deserve.” The words and tears were flowing faster now. “You deserve someone who doesn’t nearly die in every fight, someone who can take care of themselves and protect you. You deserve someone who isn’t…well, me. I’m sorry.”

He looked down, burying his face in his arms and curling up, ignoring, no, relishing the pain it caused. Because he deserved it.

“But I don’t want anyone else! I want you. I need you.”

Jenny had never been able to truly convince Ed that he wasn’t a burden. So she probably couldn’t do it now. He was going to leave her, and there was nothing she could do to stop it. Tears started streaming down her face. The crack forming in her heart was echoed in her voice.

    ”Please don’t abandon me.”

  6. 2 minutes ago, Weaver of Lights said:

“This is all my fault. All of it.” He looked into her eyes. “I love you too Jenny. More than anything. More than I love myself or how I feel. Which is why…” he took a deep, shaky breath. “Which is why…what we have…it has to end.”

    “What? Why? That… that doesn’t make sense…”

Ed was breaking up with her. Jenny didn’t understand why. They both loved each other, made each other happy. Was Ed lying about still loving her just to spare her feelings? Ed didn’t lie. But it didn’t make sense if he wasn’t lying. She’d done something wrong. What had she done wrong?

She was Jenny. That was what was wrong.

  7. 7 minutes ago, RoyalBeeMage said:

"fine! fine!" roy said putting his hands in the air non agresivly

Jenny glared at Roy for a moment more, then turned back to Ed.

9 minutes ago, Weaver of Lights said:

“How…how can I not be?” Another tear dripped down his cheek. He seemed to get smaller, trying to up as little room as possible.

“There isn’t anything to be sorry for. None of this is your fault.”

Ed was crying. She was making him cry. He felt bad for inconveniencing her. She hadn’t done a good enough job of telling him otherwise. Her voice quieted and shook slightly.

”Please listen to me. I love you. I help you. You help me. That’s what people do when they care about each other.”

  8. Eza internally groaned. Lum had already tried this strategy before. Challenging that police guy to a game had accomplished nothing. They were still fugitives whom the constabulary was searching for. There wasn’t anything that could prevent this glowing guy from breaking his word like the policeman had. There must be something iffy going on in Lum’s mind. It was like they were incapable of learning anything.

She supposed that if you could cheat at life, you didn’t need to worry about failure. That was really rusting annoying. And stupid. Everything about this was stupid. Lum was being stupid, their plan was stupid, and Eza being there in the first place was stupid.

She wandered closer to the ring toss. Lum was leaving their fate to a series of children’s games. Eza held up her koloss plushie and realized that she was matching the perturbed expression on its face. With some effort, she reverted back to a look of wide-eyed curiosity.

He hugged her weakly back. Was this their last hug like this? Would he never feel safe like how she made him feel? Surely no one else would love him.

    “I…I’m sorry.”

    ”Wh…what?”

Sorry. Ed was always sorry. It hurt Jenny whenever he apologized for being in pain or struggling. None of this was in his control. She whispered to him.

    ”Please don’t be sorry.”

    1 minute ago, RoyalBeeMage said:

"i said the flowers are better than you."

Jenny’s head snapped towards Roy. He was always looking for excuses to bully Ed. This one was clearly a stretch, so thankfully it didn’t seem to hurt Ed.

    ”Leave him alone.”

  10. Just now, Weaver of Lights said:

Edgar blinked his eyes open, trying to banish the image of Hades from his mind. He and Jenny had the same pale skin.

”W…what?” he asked, wiping the tears from his chin.

Jenny hugged Ed tightly. He was talking, he was ok. She wasn’t going to lose him. She hated that he kept scaring her like this, then immediately felt guilty about that. It wasn’t his fault.

    ”You were shaking really badly.”

She didn’t break the hug, holding Ed like she was trying to keep him from blowing away in a windstorm.

Edgar immediately falls asleep, finally leaning against Jenny.

     He dreamed.

Hades stood before him. “You think you’re worthy of my daughter? You think you, you insignificant, weak, useless boy are worthy of her love and devotion?” He laughed.

Edgar just stood there, stunned. “I…I…” He bowed his head. “No.”

Hades laughed again. “That’s right. You will end this nonsense, boy.”

    ”I…ok.”

    - - -

Lying with his head on Jenny’s shoulder, a tear dropped down  his cheek and he started shaking uncontrollably.

    “Ed?!”

Jenny immediately roughly shook Ed, trying to snap him out of it. Had something been wrong with the flowers Aaron had used? Maybe he was allergic. What did you do for an allergic reaction? It could be a seizure, too. She didn’t know what to do for that either. Were allergy seizures a thing? Jenny frantically looked at Aaron, her eyes wild and panicked.

Aaron looks up. "I am fine now" he says, his voice becoming perkier. What just happened to me, I thought he was in Tartarus. he glances at the vial of Gorgon blood in his pocket, and goes cold. It was empty. No, no, no, who got it. He goes through the days event in his mind. Did a monster take it?

He heads towards Edgar, throwing his special mix of blooms around him once again. He glances at the rapidly mptying packet. "I dont have too much left." he says to Jenny, focusing on the healing, and what he can do for his friends.

Jenny smiled gratefully. Ed really needed this.

    ”Thank you!”

It was unfortunate they were running low on healing supplies. They might need to stop by a plant nursery or something for Aaron. She scooted away slightly to avoid accidentally taking up some of the healing magic. Her bruises were only an annoyance, so fixing them would be frivolous.

Aaron glances up at this, trying to contain his headache. "That was not at you" he says through gritted teeth. Feeling the other presence trying to do something to him. He tries to batter it away. It goes away. He slumps forward. Remember what I can do, don't disappoint me he whimpers.

Who had Aaron been speaking to? Maybe he had a voice in his head like Jenny did. Her voice hadn’t bothered her for a while. She avoided thinking about it more than that, any further thoughts slipping away like motes of dust through grasping hands.

He was slumped forwards and whimpering. That wasn’t good at all. Was he scared or in pain? Both? Jenny was getting worried.

    ”Are you ok?”

Frisian pulls to a sharp halt. He glares at Asylum, who smiles back at him.

"Talamar, is she right?" he asks. the spren forms back into his human shape.

"I'm afraid so, Frisian. I had been planning to warn you once you'd landed, but..."

Frisian looks down at Asylum. "Fine. What deal do you want to make?" He cancels all of his upward lashings except for a one-quarter lashing to slow the fall.

When the glowing guy grabbed Lum and shot them into the air, Eza immediately burned iron. Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough metal on their persons to stop them. She’d been right. Those glowing people Lum had angered had come back for them. She didn’t recognize him, but that hardly mattered at this point. Lum was probably done for regardless of who this magic guy was.

She barely managed to see Lum saying something that she couldn’t hear, as they were far out of earshot. The man slowed, then they started falling. Eza was somehow both relieved and oddly frustrated by this. Lum never seemed to face any permanent consequences for their actions. That didn’t mean everyone else didn’t have to deal with them, though. They’d destroyed a bar and with it someone’s livelihood.

Lum had known that could happen yet had pushed their luck anyways. Lum was well past the point where any repercussions could serve as learning experiences, however. There was little point in finding a newfound sense of wisdom if you were stuck in a prison cell or worse.

Eza maneuvered so that she was standing closer to where the two were descending, trying to keep them in sight as the crowd stopped to stare. This was unfortunately quite the spectacle, moving all of the fairgoers’ attention to Lum that they hadn’t already drawn themself.

She noticed a silver hairpin stuck sideways through a woman’s elaborate bun and absentmindedly ironpulled on it, sending the shiny piece of metal rocketing into her hand. The previous owner was too distracted by the glowing figures above to notice that her hairdo had collapsed. Eza haphazardly stuck the pin in her own hair, her newly created “hairdo” far less elegant than the woman’s. She had a love-hate relationship with spectacles.

"Just stop it" he almost yells, clinging to the sides of his head. He glances towards the others again, but another bout of headaches seem to split his head. No, No, No, my little pet

Jenny flinched at his words. Had Aaron been talking to her? He hadn’t looked at her when he spoke, but you didn’t always look at someone you were talking to. He probably was upset with her for bothering him. His magic made him tired. Maybe she was overstepping; he probably would’ve already offered help if he could. She mumbled an apology, looking downwards.

    ”Sorry.”

Is Aaron speaking that out loud?

She doesn’t think you’re strong enough to even stand. She knows you’re weak. She doesn’t want you next to her.

“Ok,” he whispered, sounding like he was about to cry.

Ed sounded different than usual. That was probably bad. At least he was agreeing to not stand up. Jenny sat down next to him and shut her eyes, continuing to try to support him.

”Aaron, is there anything flower-magicky stuff you can do to help Ed? We really need to get moving quickly.”

Hopefully referencing the danger they were all in would help persuade Aaron to heal Ed.

He struggled weakly to sit up, but was unsuccessful.

Jenny tried to gently help Ed sit up. They needed to leave soon. Ed had to rest, and mortals were going to start chasing them at any moment.

    “Please don’t try to stand.”

She whispered this to Ed to avoid embarrassing him in front of the others. She knew he’d hate to not do anything, but his condition was scaring her. Jenny didn’t want to come as close as she had to losing him before.

Jenny ain’t gonna interpret anything correctly :P

That admittedly made sense. Ed had been sitting last time she’d seen him, and the thud was probably him falling down. Why had he stood up? He’d needed Jenny to carry him there, he couldn’t support himself. She looked back at him and saw that he was a sickly pale. She paled, too. Ed was normally heavily impacted by pain, but this seemed to go beyond just pain.

Edgar tried to stifle his yell of pain, but was largely unsuccessful.

    “Ed?!”

Something was hurting Ed. Jenny scrambled to her feet and tried to move so that she was standing in front of him, nearly tripping over him in the process. Roy must be involved with this somehow. She couldn’t protect Ed from him blind, so she cracked one eye open as a compromise.

"jenny dont look at me!" roy said harshly

“My eyes are closed! I physically can’t!”

Jenny sounded rather panicked. Now that her adrenaline was gone, her fear of seeing the city below her had returned.

35 minutes ago, Weaver of Lights said:

As he said this, Edgar felt hatred bubbling up through him. Why was Roy always such a bully? Someone had to put a stop to this.

He stood, ready to confront Roy. Then he immediately fell to the floor, shaking in pain.

She heard a thump. Was it more monsters? Police trying to break down the door? The elevator falling to the ground?

    ”What was that?!”

Jenny knew that she was probably overreacting, but that didn’t overcome her general panic caused by being so high up.

  22. 17 minutes ago, RoyalBeeMage said:

roy looked at edgar once more before turning away in distain. what ever it was he would get over it he was sure.

Was this Roy’s fault? Had he done something to Ed? Jenny glared at the back of his head. Ed was hurt. Roy being mean to him was never good, although normally Ed seemed to handle it alright. But in his current state, he might not be able to. She unconsciously placed a hand on Sword’s concealed hilt.

She then realized that her eyes were opened and the window was right in the center of her field of vision. She quickly shut them again, tensing up. Hopefully they’d leave this terrifying place soon.
