We are told that the Threnodites arrived on space ships. And they designed flying cities. How did they power them? The first generation died from causes other than the Sun. So they spent years on Canticle without Sunhearts. How did they keep the cities flying? And am I understanding this correctly? Did the first generation intentionally destroy and lose that technology to force their descendants to go into the Sun, lest Shades overrun Canticle?

Are horses and Ryshadium originally not from Roshar?
Oltux72 replied to Soulcaster05's topic in Stormlight Archive
And Spren. Being an ambush hunter while you are drawing anticipation-spren is not a good combination. -
It would seem to mean that Odium was released from Roshar. In fact from Lost Metal it very much looks like Shadesmar is a war zone. But which oaths would bind the Radiants? They may bind the Skybreakers and they bind Dalinar personally, but the Knights Radiant in their entirety? Strictly speaking Dalinar does not command them. Isn't that the whole point of contention between the Skybreakers and the rest?

Compared to the bomb we have seen in Lost Metal? Or Antiinvestiture weapons? Or nuclear weapons? Nightblood is an incredibly powerful weapon if you can bring it to bear. If ... It still is a sword and has the range limit inherent in that shape.
-
Vivenna's blade may be weaker on purpose. Wielding Nightblood is dangerous to the user. That is not desirable.

Let's assemble the known facts Nomad has been on tens of planets each of his skips uses up vast amounts of Investiture the Night Brigade caught him within days What does that imply: the majority of the inhabitated worlds in the Cosmere have no Shards in residence (simple math) it is possible to gather a lot of Investiture quickly on worlds without Shards Now the obvious question: Where did that Investiture come from? It seems to me that the close association between magic systems and Shards just does not exist.

The Evil is still active on Threnody - not an earthshattering relevation Deadeyes still exist - that is very significant. Is Ba-Ado-Mishram never recovered? The Knights Radiant still exist Sel & Nalthis survive

Sunlit Man Full Book Reactions (No Cosmere Edition)
Oltux72 replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
So you agree that the book has no "Sanderlanch"? -
None. The sun predates the Shattering. For the simple reason that the raised gravity must be old for a planet of this size to retain any air.
-
He spent time studying the arcana. I don't see how that would be compatible with being hunted all the time.
-
There is a major problem: Galladon's father died of heart disease.

Sunlit Man Full Book Reactions (No Cosmere Edition)
Oltux72 replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Atypical for a Sanderson book. The typical concentration of events towards the ending was much less pronounced. And, this is his possibly darkest book ever. I mean, using your dead relatives as a power source and abandoning your old people as human sacrifices, that is hard core. -
Do we agree on the following sequence of events? Sigzil ceases to be a Windrunner Sigzil becomes a bearer of the Dawnshard Hoid once carried Sigzil becomes a Skybreaker Sigzil inadvertedly kills his spren Sigzil gives the Dawnshard up Sigzil becomes an Arcanist (It seems like he spent a period of several years in Silverlight) He has an encounter with the Night Brigade They start hunting him

Is it the same planet? (Yumi spoilers)
Oltux72 replied to The flying spider's topic in Cosmere Discussion
OK, so you are assuming that the prominence of the U'Tol system arose in between the time of YATNP and Hoid telling the story? I understood Hoid in the way that U'Tol was already known during YATNP -
Now we have all three Secret Projects an obvious question arises. What is their temporal ordering? I will propose the following (earliest) SP#4 - SP#3 - SP#1 (latest) Now what is the evidence? SP#4 is before SP#3 - and that is I think the only temporal relation we have good evidence for: Sigzil does not know that Sho Del settle outside Yolen. Yet in SP#3 Hoid claims that the U'Tol system is famous. If it is famous, people must know who lives there. SP#1 after SP#4 - that is very hard. I would, however, say that if Hoid were an Elantrian in SP#3, he would have used Aon Tia to leave SP#4 before SP#1 - the description of Nalthis in SP#4 sounds like Nalthis is not yet a high tech world at that stage.

Is it the same planet? (Yumi spoilers)
Oltux72 replied to The flying spider's topic in Cosmere Discussion
What makes you think that Yumi is before Sunlit Man? -
But why? we have two groups here. One that heals extremely well: Stormlight Voidlight Lifelight Charred Tormented And those that heal very badly: Returned People of higher Heightenings Elantrians
-
Just to have this in one place: Zephyr spores Dawnshards The surge of Gravitation Steelpushing Awakening (not necessarily with Breaths) Steel Feruchemy Dead Shardblades Shades Manufacturing by Shades "Continuity Chains" - is that the gift Mraize gave Raboniel? Shade Control Purified Dor Medaillions? Or is the Scadrian scientist a Coinshot? Ashyn gravitation magic hemalurgy
-
Not necessarily. Stormlight may be more effective at causing this effect than other forms of Investiture. In fact, if that is not the case, why are the Returned so easy to kill compared to a Radiant? It seems to me that we have an upper bound to the Investiture content of Stormlight.

Well, right at the edge of the Basinis at a place where you want them to be found. Hence also the whole temple. Yet, how would one side learn that the other side has the bands? If you want them to think that the other side has them the version with the shattered case makes much more sense. In fact, it almost seems like the temple and the statue have different intents, hence also origins.
-
-
So whoever stole them built a gigantic temple with a humongeous statue in front of it instead of hiding it in a box under somebody's bed. I am sure you see the issue. Sorry, but that makes no sense. For that the Bands don't need to be actually there. The mere rumour would suffice. There is something very off in that whole story line.
