@Toofpete, I first started reading stormlight when I was ten and I still loved it then as much as I do now. I don't think that it is too complex for a ten year old, and I'm sure your daughter will love it, especially since she enjoyed mistborn. Also, welcome to the shard!

I am so happy someone made a thread for this, because I have so many. (Sorry violists. I have nothing against you, but these jokes are funny!) How do you transpose a violin part for viola? How can you tell if a violist is playing out of tune? What's the difference between a vacuum cleaner and a violist? What's the difference between the concert master and the last chair violist? What's the difference between ancient Greek and alto clef? How can composers get the violas to play a pianissimo tremelo? You are trapped in a desert and see three things in front of you. Should you head for the oasis, the talented violist, or the bad violist? What's the same about a grenade and a viola solo?

This seems like the most likely explanation to me. Mistwraiths just died out in the Catacendre, so the kandra don't have anything to transform to make more of themselves. (Sorry about the double quotes above; I'm on my phone and couldn't figure them out)

I find it hard to imagine that a ship would ever be falling with an undamaged acclivity ring. One ring is enough to single handedly hover the whole ship, so as long as it's still working, the ship won't be crashing, and it seems pointless to spend so much effort to eject destroyed rings. -

Also, DE is the only novella I can think of with an interesting FTL method.

Isn't it stated that Rock's ability is because he swam in Cultivation's perpendicularly? And didn't Cultivation also make Lift partially in the Cognitive? Is it possible that Cultivation is the one who blessed Rock????

It seems like Aon Tia must be somehow based on perception. If it isn't, to teleport in a certain direction, you must have to draw the Aon at an incredibly precise angle to avoid missing your target.

I would imagine that in the last case, if a pulser burned their metal while falling, they would just slow down. However, I wonder what would happen if a Steelrunner fell of a cliff and then started storing speed. Would they fall slower?
