  1. The problem with bringing horses through shadesmar is that they won't stop talking about their feelings.
  2. A couple years back, Peter was hinting that The Way of Kings was supposed to end with a totally unfair betrayal at the end of the book. While there's Dalinar misinterpreting the Almighty (and trusting his fellow highprince), I don't really feel like the ending really fits the description Peter gave. Does anyone know what the original ending was supposed to be like? Was Dalinar supposed to die in the first draft, instead of being saved by Kaladin?
  3. He's probably at least put some thought into it. A couple other gem nerds have nitpicked about stormlight archive's gemstones
  4. Vapors has to be scandrial, I mean it's MISTborn for crying out loud. They've got ferucheMISTs, skaa live in constant fear of MISTwraiths, and when the Lord Ruler aimed the planet towards the right orbit he TOTALLY MIST.
  5. You could just ask "are breaths primarily spiritual, primarily cognitive, or roughly equal of both". I mean that's easy.
  6. Ah, that makes sense. The Expanse of Densities is 'a world we know' apparently
  7. Honestly, it probably makes the most sense to come up with some interesting questions that would either conclusively prove or disprove your theory, and add them to the ultimate list.
  8. I don't think Stormlight is a good starting place. Szeth's intro has a real 'tutorial level' feel, and it's very difficult to get past the first couple chapters - and once someone's opinion has soured on a book, it makes the remaining thousand pages a slog.
  9. Nah, I've got other disagreements, but I don't want to fill up this thread with them.
  10. 'the unseen energy that permeates all of the world' could very well just be the power of creation. And later in that same post you disagree with him, so I don't think you can really cite an ambiguous phrase while discarding half of it.
  11. And your 'soul' includes both cognitive and spiritual stuff. After all, storing memories is very firmly a cognitive thing, and we know that soulforging includes a LOT of memory altering.
  12. You're saying that 'life sense' is the same as connection? Why? They have decreased emotional stability and decreased immune system response as well, which are cognitive and physical. They also get mentally 'fuzzier', as we see with Vivenna, which is also cognitive. And as we can tell from the Returned, the Big Breath gives you huge physical gains.
  13. You don't gain access to it by hating people/ being hated. On the other hand, it does seem like fabrials involve some sort of growth, even if it's only in the metaphorical sense of gaining knowledge.
  14. Well, the way you gain access to a magic system is based off the shard, and it sure as heck doesn't involve honor or odium, so by process of elimination...
  15. Also, gold feruchemy can cure shardblade wounds, so it clearly does something beyond the merely physical.
  16. Yeah, but there's a death vision from what appears to be Kaladin's POV So...
  17. Well, technically mists+well+lerasium+people. I vaguely recall something along the lines of preservation wanting atium's power to be useful, but I can't dig it up. Something that gave a indication that preservation had a little say in what atium did.
  18. Well, Kelsier is hanging out in the cognitive realm at least, and shadesmar is a special case of the cognitive realm...
  19. Fortunately, he's got a long time to get any changes happening. There's another quote about it being like trying to get between two planets so the forces cancel out.
  20. Found the breakdown.
  21. "Does the weeping occur on the entire planet at once? Does it correspond to a Node in the Highstorms? Are the seasons regional or planetary" I think node is confirmed, since it's apparently the lowpoint in a regular cycle of highstorm activity. This one I think has been answered partially
  22. Yeah, but every skaa allomancer has noble blood within 5 generations back. Worst case that's what, 1/32th? (sidenote mister Sanderson: I am disappointed that it wasn't 1/16th) Even if you've got a full 100% power mistborn as the noble... that's not a lot of magical inheritence remaining. That said, it could just be that having even a tiny extra dollap of preservation disturbs the even balance of powers needed to develop feruchemy. I figure though, if the Lord Ruler was worried about getting someone who could challenge his power, it's probably possible. He's got magical intuition into this sort of stuff.
  23. I think having a lot of power is a requirement to be a mistborn, but not necessarily sufficient. After all, if it were just a matter of the bloodline thinning, you wouldn't get any mistborn descended from mistings and skaa crossings at all - the children would always have less allomantic power than the parents. Also that would result in weirdness with hemalurgy, but hemalurgy is already weird so who knows.
  24. Technically, it could be whatever genes cause mistings to exist instead of mistborn... I mean, it seems more likely that mistborns are lacking some limiter than having fifteen extra genes.
  25. Well, there's a good possibility that Sazed is the most powerful guy in the cosmere, so I think more than two is probably impossible, and even two is a bit of a stretch.
