I'm just assuming it's still up in flux. Dude's giving off the cuff answers for systems he hasn't finished yet. -

That 'for each metal' is the thing. -

"You could really answer that either way." Stop arguing. -
Brass compounding could be pretty cool, since you're protected from the side effects. Want to be the human torch now's your chance.

The origin of Adonalsium (the word)

Atium used to be called 'atrium' as well, too. -
Predicting the results of atium alloys
Phantom Monstrosity replied to SwiftSteel's topic in Mistborn
He's been kinda inconsistent about it. There are apparently 'way more than sixteen' atium alloys for each metal, but there are also 'nearly' fifty allomantic metals, and the ars arcanum says there are sixteen atium alloys total. So really I think it's in a state of flux. -
Aluminum compounding is pretty useless, according to Brandon. Should probably be free. You should also add a total column

I actually would not be surprised if Brandon hadn't figured out how many there were yet. -
Eyeballing the different mistborn charts!

There are a couple charts in Ars Arcanums as well. Here's Hero of Ages EDIT: How do you do tables on this? Not really. Lightweaving is 'close enough', so it ends up working identically.

The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
Phantom Monstrosity replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I'll point out that a mistborn CAN burn nonallomantic metals. It is just a very bad idea. I haven't got a response back (since emails take a long time to sort through), but when I asked for a copy of Mistborn prime and Final Empire Prime I also asked Brandon if it was possible for a persistant-but-dim mistborn to become a savant in a bad alloy. Depending on if that gets answered... well, I have a theory that if becoming a savant starts tearing channels into your spiritweb, you might be able to create entirely new configurations by flaring the right combinations of non-allomantic/badly alloyed metals. Basically burning a new path into your soul. -
Well, multiple feruchemists can store power in the same metal, by putting it in different pieces of the metal. And since hemalurgic spikes let you access someone else's metalminds (and involve killing said person), I don't think metalminds wipe upon death.
-
Well, it's either Hoid or a member of the Seventeenth Shard. So really a tossup (if we knew who Nahz was on the AoL map it'd help). I don't think it's Hoid, just because he has feruchemy and he'd know his own magic system. He wouldn't have put 'unknown' in the HoA Ars Arcanum for aluminum and duralumin.
-
Why? The number of magic systems isn't just created by using 'every combination of shards', and the planet seems to have a pretty firm say in how things work, as well. Could just as easily be that location-based magic inherently has a bunch of regional changes, but by default stays relatively homogenous overall, regardless of the shards involve.
-
Ah, but Shards are better at some things than others, and 'all kinds of' is an idiomatic phrase. That said your next theory should incorporate this since Brandon seems to have been careful to draw a distinction here.

Well, that's been Hoid's defining characteristic since the beginning.

Dragonsteel and a Legal Question
Phantom Monstrosity replied to ivorylemur's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I am not a lawyer, but yes, that sounds like a pretty clear-cut example of copyright infringment. I believe that Brandon generally doesn't want people making unpublished books he sends them publicly available - and I think a lot of the reasons for that should apply to dragonsteel as well. I mean, if he wanted people to just be able to download dragonsteel, he could at any point put dragonsteel.doc up on his website, and it seems kinda rude to do an end-run around that. That said I'm not a mod or anything. -
Wow, that 'metal reforming' thing is weird. Brandon mentioned it was possible to run out... I guess that means he was Aes Sedai truthing on that...
-
Not necessarily. No need for the shards to merge at all. They could just have done the right things to the planet's inhabitants to grant a joint system, but not the things to give individual systems. And since it's possible for systems to be set up pre-shattering and then linger without being directly powered by a shard, and Sazed ascending and unifying the shards didn't collapse the powers into hemuchemistborns... I don't really see them being essentially all the same magic really as evidence for or against shards having merged at any particular point.
-
Maybe if if were 'had an effect on' yeah. I don't really buy 'all other' just. Because of all the planets with no shardic influence, and even 'all shardworlds' has issues. Odium does not strike me as a guy who would stop kicking a cripple, and scandriel would be the perfect place to splinter a couple shards with no risk.
-
Neat! Now, to ask what happens when you alloy charged zinc and charged copper
-
it depends. If we're talking expanded universe jedi, then there is all sorts of stupid stuff they can do, including a billion flavorblasted forms of precognition. On the other hand if we're talking movie jedi, then their precognition seems super limited, given how many got chumped by clones with normal guns.

I'm willing to bet that no new shards will come to mistborn; mistborn will go to other shards.
