Hello! Welcome, and if the mods tell you to repeat any words verbatim, remember the just want your Breath.

Well, keep in mind that expending power was only a problem for preservation and ruin because it would give their counterpart an advantage in the Divine Shoving Match. Also, there can be magic systems not linked to a particular shard. But yeah there's a quote about hemalurgy stapling you onto preservation as well. And another one that distinguishes between of preservation and part of preservation. my opinion is all shards have access to the power of creation, but differernt shards are better at different things. The quote of 'the power each shard has'is contrasting with just the power that normalish dudes can access in that quote, then. Shards don't have a fundamengtally different source, iow Normally i'd have quotes for all this but I'm on my phone.

Spheres usefulness for soulcasting
Phantom Monstrosity replied to Shardbearer's topic in Stormlight Archive
If they weren't in some way fiat, you wouldn't have nice constant ratios between denominations. That said, the gems in the spheres probably vary in size over time, depending on availability. -
Man I wish I could trust the exact phrasing on that all other planets...

Questions I Asked Brandon Today
Phantom Monstrosity replied to Alsenoth's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Cool beans! My guess on the Hoid spooking thing is Ruin freaking out 'oh no Vin don't talk to Hoid he's weird and he still owes me five bucks' -

The origin of Adonalsium (the word)
Phantom Monstrosity replied to Khmauv's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Hoid talks about taking a bunch of meat, chopping it up real fine, and then trying to reverse the process and reassemble the original form. It's obviously an anagram. Adonalsium = Undo Salami -
And I intend it to work bothways. I'm pretty sure that would make curved surfaces an insurmountable barrier to rithmatics.

My favorite theory: 'Kredik Shaw is a giant hemalurgic construct'. I mean, it'd have been a COOL reveal. 'Yeah those giant metal spikes? They're repelling the mists across the ENTIRE PLANET. You know how the Lord Ruler kills all those skaa and drains their blood into the fountains? It's necessary to SAVE THE WORLD.'

Interesting tidbits from signing in San Jose
Phantom Monstrosity replied to The Anamnesor's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yeah, but we count Odium for Stormlight Archive, and it's possible he used to just go hang out in Yolen back in the day. -
Honestly, I am mostly curious about how lines work on spherical surfaces. Draw an equator. Is it a line of forbiddance? Is it a line of warding? It's BOTH!

Why Joel didn't become a Rithmatist (spoilers)
Phantom Monstrosity replied to blackmagic3's topic in The Rithmatist
Well it would be kinda a waste to note that Joel is special mystically and then never do anything with it. Besides what main character in a Sanderson book doesn't have superpowers? It might just be hair shapeshifting, but its always present. -
The planet has a different focus. As such, mistborn travelling to it must carry and consume a wide variety of horses.

Predicting the results of atium alloys
Phantom Monstrosity replied to SwiftSteel's topic in Mistborn
Atium alloys have temporal and mental effects, according to the table. Technically though all metals have at least a tiny mental effect... -
Why shardblades don't cut each others?
Phantom Monstrosity replied to king of nowhere's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think stormlight is more like the mists - holding in stormlight is VERY similar to the end scene of mistborn, with it seeping out of vin's pores. -
Eyeballing the different mistborn charts!
Phantom Monstrosity replied to Phantom Monstrosity's topic in Mistborn
Sanderson has said there's no canonical way to burn more than one type of metal except by being a mistborn or invoking hemalurgy. -
Eyeballing the different mistborn charts!
Phantom Monstrosity replied to Phantom Monstrosity's topic in Mistborn
Yeah, there's a quote that preservation was screwing with the system to make it work out nicely, but that doesn't solve the 'were metals removed for everyone or just the mists' question. It might well be that the mists *could* have snapped 49% of the population (or some other number), but preservation was like 'mallerasium, ain't nobody got that, it'll just confuse everryone'. -
Here's the reference quote.

Eyeballing the different mistborn charts!
Phantom Monstrosity replied to Phantom Monstrosity's topic in Mistborn
Thanks a lot! I really appreciate you going to all that trouble. Now let's get to farming these guys. First thing I noticed is 'no longer commonly available' and 'not in wide use' for the god metals in feruchemy, which to me seems to imply that some people are using them feruchemically. I mean, besides Marsh and whatever Hoid might be doing. And uh, the author of the table doesn't list atium's age properties. Are the temporal /mental/physical/enhancement allomantic quadrant titles actually listed on the chart? Or is it just the feruchemical terms? For what it's worth, here's the feruchemy table from the rpg: And here's a zoom-in on an obvious pair of mistakes Don't know why I posted that one. Anyway, transcribing the of allomancy now. Physical Iron: Pulls Metal Objects Steel: Pushes Metal Objects Tin: Enhances the Five Senses Pewter: Boosts Physique and Health Enhancement Aluminum: Wipes Out Metal Reserves Duralumin: Massively Flares Currently Burning Metals Chromium: Wipes Out Other's Metal Reserves Nicrosil: Massively Flares Other's Burning Metals Mental Zinc: Riots the Emotions of Others Brass: Soothes the Emotions of Others Copper: Hides Nearby Allomancy Bronze: Seeks Nearby Allomancy Temporal: Gold: Reveals Alternate Pasts Electrum: Reveals Possible Futures Cadmium: Slows Time Bendalloy: Speeds Time God Metals: Lerasium: ??Grants Allomantic Power?? Atium: ??Reveals the Immediate Future Of Others?? Can't get a good read on those last two. Man I wish I had a copy on hand. RPG feruchemy: Physical: Iron: Stores Physical Weight Steel: Stores Physical Speed Tin: Stores the Five Senses Pewter: Stores Physical Strength Spiritual Chromium: Stores Fortune Nicrosil: Stores Investiture Aluminium: Stores Personal Identity Duralumin: Stores Connections ??[to Others?]?? Cognitive Zinc: Stores Mental Speed Brass: Stores Warmth Copper: Stores Memory Bronze: Stores Wakefulness Hybrid Cadmium: Stores Breath Bendalloy: Stores Energy Gold: Stores Physical Health Electrum: Stores Determination Actually the RPG tables might not be very useful, but for completion sake... -
Motivation, Execution, Consequence: A Realmatic Theory
Phantom Monstrosity replied to Kurkistan's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The Allomantic Table was released in 2008, my email was from 2011 (post HoA). I just can't make more than a few words on the feruchemy chart . I've already transcribed the allomantic one... but let's take that to the proper thread.- 134 replies

Nope. Brandon is a sodium twinborn, Hoid is a dragonsteel compounder.
