  1. Hrovell is also considered a backwater which is isolated from much of the rest of the Empire. The Coppermind says this: That (plus their defiance of Shu-Dereth in favor of the Jeskeri Mysteries) seems to me that they still consider themselves to be separate from Fjordell in several ways.
  2. I definitely think that oath to protect Kharbranth will show up again, but I don't think that's why Cultivation liked Taravangian. Rather I think it would be more likely that either Odium ends up breaking that oath or he fails somehow because he follows it.
  3. yeah, the way I saw it, pewter healing is just enhanced metabolism, so rather than using Spiritual qualities as a template to heal towards, it just makes the body work harder at what it's already doing.
  4. Referring to this, you could probably name the metals by the spren or the order. But that also raises the question of Shardplate vs Shardblade metal, since they have different properties as well
  5. He still needs to make the remnants of Honor (Dalinar/Stormfather) release him from Braize, though. He can influence Roshar, but currently he cannot do too much with it himself. As for why he wants Roshar to be his army, that is probably because he is weakened by his encounters with the other Shards. If he can make the other Shards focus on protecting their physical planets from powerful invaders, then he can try to surprise the Shards with a direct attack rather than engaging in a drawn-out fight he is not sure to win.
  6. Those Bondsmith couples are somewhat different though, firstly because all past Bondsmith relationships were between the Bondsmiths of the Stormfather and Nightwatcher (never the Sibling), and and because of the unbinding of the Surges since Honor's death. Dalinar and probably Navani have greater abilities than past Bondsmiths.
  7. The way I see it, Dalinar's Perpendicularity allows travel between the Physical Realm and Shadesmar, as well as pulls Honor's Investiture from the Spiritual Realm. Swearing an Ideal touches the part of the Spiritual Realm that (Mistborn), as well as Renarin's Moash illusion thing, touch.
  8. did he really? I cannot find any mention of bondsmith oaths being important, just radiant oaths. Although I do not have access to my copy of RoW rn, so I cannot look for the quote itself.
  9. Firstly, hi friend! It's been a while! Thanks for posting this from twitter! As far as this goes: I know Elhokar and Moash have been compared due to the fact that they are both bad people, and yet we are supposed to sympathize with Elhokar because he's getting better (despite the Roshone situation), and be against Moash because he's actively getting worse. The prime example would be Moash killing Elhokar, which is actually an understandable action that is only considered wrong because Elhokar is trying to be better. Adolin killing Sadeas is just treated as distasteful, though. Moash had no idea Elhokar was getting better, so in his mind, the king was just as bad as he used to be.
  10. Not a Bondsmith, but any Radiant swearing an Ideal would make him sane. That's part of the reason Szeth is going on the mission. His presence in Shinovar guarantees that an oath will be accepted if the overall mission succeeds because he will cleanse the Shin leadership.
  11. Honestly, we still don't know the full story of the animosity between the Sixteen, but we do know that Rayse was bent on killing other Shards. Tanavast may have been trying to stop that. As for why Honor cannot be taken up right now, it's because Odium ripped it into pieces when Tanavast died.
  12. Speaking of which, I really liked that Brandon introduced a new Cytonic power in the concussion bolts! Skyward, Starsight, and Sunreach were fun in that I could pay attention for Defending Elysium references, but I liked that ReDawn added something new to Cytonics that wasn't present in DA.
  13. Like Ishar's trick could probably be countered by storing away the Connection to the ground.
  14. No spoilers, but either Shadows of Self, Bands of Mourning, Rhythm of War, or (a rather uncommon opinion) Firstborn
  15. not necessarily, because he saved up a lot of breaths 350 years ago (and sometimes acquired extra), but only had a couple by the time he fought Vasher
  16. hello! What is your favorite Sanderson book you've read?
  17. Yes he is, and Szeth had stormlight that Nightblood used
  18. he had a bunch of Breaths saved up.
  19. And notice the progression from the trait they have at Oath 1 to the trait they develop at Oath 4 & 5. It follows the Divine Attributes. Bondsmiths wanting to be better (and in each example, pious in an unorthodox way) -> becoming a uniting force that can nurture and guide Roshar (hopefully this will become clearer as we get more oaths). Windrunners throwing themselves into protecting others until they are able to lead others in protecting themselves. Lightweavers creatively lying to themselves (and also being creative in general) until they can accept and be honest to themselves. Skybreakers committing to being just by being lawful until they develop the confidence to trust their own sense of right and wrong.
  20. This is gonna be iffy, but I'll give it a shot. Life before death: I swear to follow the law/seek justice. I will set an example of how one should live (at least that's what I believe the purpose of this Ideal is). Strength before weakness: I swear to dedicate myself to my code. I will have the strength to follow my chosen code, no matter how it restricts me. Journey before destination: I will prove myself and my dedication. Literally the Ideal of Crusade; I will follow through on my journey towards justice. Fifth Ideal: the Ideal of Law. I am the law/justice/truth; I have the confidence to know what's right. The culmination of the previous Ideals: I am living a just life, I have the strength to know right and wrong, I will continue on this path for my whole life. (side note, I feel like the point of the Skybreakers is not simply to be just for justice's sake, but rather to serve as a beacon of justice for others to see) Notice how my interpretation of the Ideals also shows the Divine Attributes of Nale. Specifically, how the emulation of the first (in this case, Just) leads to the development of the second (here, Confident). Skybreakers strive to be Just, and in doing so, they gain Confidence in their own ability to know justice. You know, I think all the orders could follow the same relation to the Divine Attributes. I could be totally wrong, but maybe not. Because we (sort of) know all five Ideals, I'll use the Lightweavers (Shalash: Creative, Honest) as an example. As a Lightweaver progresses through their Truths, they demonstrate their capacity for Creativity through the negation of lies they told before. But at the fifth Truth, they will have admitted their deepest secrets and in doing so developed self-Honesty. Additionally, the Fourth ideal is the beginning of the development of the second Attribute. With the Skybreakers, the Ideal of Crusade shows the beginning of a Skybreaker's confidence in their own ability to know justice, because they must believe their quest is a just one. With the Lightweavers, (ROW spoilers) I believe the Windrunners will follow a similar pattern.
  21. The Unmade probably could not Ascend. And El and the Nine are not shown to be constantly in contact with the Shard the way Vyre is. iirc, Vyre's gift is unique among Odium's servants
  22. For the same reason he moved everyone else: to create a control group. Especially during Ascension, Rashek still cared about the Terris people, so could have included some in both the Final Empire and the unaltered south to ensure they survive.
  23. Because he already thought that turning existing Feruchemists into kandra would be enough to destroy feruchemy, and did not realize that the sDNA survived in all Terris people. He did not intend to enslave them until after Feruchemists began appearing again. And once he realized that feruchemy still survived, he no longer held the power of Ascension.
  24. Feruchemy is certainly OP, the reasons we don't think of it that way is because it's not as flashy as allomancy or surgebinding, and also that the Full Feruchemists we see do not use it to its full potential (imo). In Era 1, many metals simply were not known and therefore could not be used as metalminds, as well as the fact that Terris Keepers had to be careful to not be caught using feruchemy by the Final Empire. Beyond that, the most efficient way to store an attribute would be to use that attribute naturally while storing, i.e. storing speed while going for a jog, or storing health while injured. But either way, the Feruchemist povs we get do not show them constantly storing anything (except Wax, who is always at 75% weight and therefore always storing weight). But Feruchemy is pretty OP, just underutilized.
  25. Probably Rashek moved them with his Ascension powers
