  1. Not clear, not the Dawnchant. That doesn’t narrow it down. Maybe a language from Ashyn. I assume this one came from Ashyn at some point since multiple Dawnshards were used on Ashyn.
  2. Yes, he is not main character material. By the end of the novella I was skimming his POVs, in part to get back to the Dawnshard, but I also was kind of done with his silliness. I like him better than Wayne though, probably because Lopen generally has fewer POVs.
  3. We do have a recent WoB that their madness is magical. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/431/#e14004 I agree it's part the torture, part living so long. The other thing is they are cognitive shadows that are impacted more directly by thoughts and they've lived so long with the guilt of what they've done. They don't think well of themselves and that is causing them to behave directly counter to their divine attributes. It can't be just other people thinking ill of them that's changing them, because the Heralds are revered and or worshipped all over Roshar. It's the Heralds opinion of themselves that is warping them along with all the other things mentioned.
  4. We got a lot Rock background including that he bonded a spren that made him stronger. Not a radiant spren either. It’s how he shot Sadeas’ Shardbow twice. Sadeas needs plate to use it. Also I LOVE right after that quote when Cord kneels down next to Rysn and whispers like “unfortunately this god doesn’t seem to be familiar with ancient pacts”
  5. That's a good though!. Either Chiri-Chiri or a giant Larkin that Chiri-Chiri will be the size of in the back half.
  6. I love this!
  7. Yep, we have the Ch. 36 WoK epigraph mentioning the Dawnshard known to bind all creatures voidish or mortal. Unite, Bind, Connect it's a word like that. I agree Dalinar must be tied into a Dawnshard in some way, but not actually one in the straightforward sense. Much like he is kind of Honor enough to briefly form the perpendicularity, but he isn't actually a Shard vessel fulltime. We also have a WoB post-OB where Brandon was asked if we'd seen a Dawnshard yet and he said "yes and no". We've seen a lot of Hoid and Dalinar. Hoid used to be one, but not for a long time. If Dalinar was straight up a Dawnshard already the answer would just be "Yes". https://wob.coppermind.net/events/394/#e12846 So I don't think Dalinar = Dawnshard is correct, but it seems like it's wrapped up in his whole deal somehow.
  8. If Dalinar and Gavilar were both the Unite Dawnshard and they became that by reading the book and they read the book because Honor’s visions said to read the book (at least that’s probably why Gavilar did it). Then Honor’s fingerprints are all over this Dawnshard. This Dawnshard who he is technically directly telling isn’t available. When Dalinar hears Honor tell him “without the Dawnshards” honor is saying “without the Dawnshards” to a Dawnshard. The only way I can make this work is if Honor tied the Dawnshard, his Remnants, the Stormfather and that storming book together as a contingency for his death and whatever he had to do to tie it all together made the Dawnshard not useable. He is keeping it out of Odium’s hands but now no one can use it like it once was used. I don’t think it’s “dead”. Nikli says none of them are alive including the Rysn has. The UNITE one may be altered to the point where it can’t be used though.
  9. Bind/Unite/Connect is absolutely a Dawnshard. It’s like the one thing we knew about them in book 1.
  10. Wisdom in Remain, Endure or Survive. Whatever Preservation is in. Wisdom is usually associated with experience and one only gets experience by continuing to exist. Making wise decisions helps with survival. Ingenuity - Create. Using intelligence to make new things.
  11. They are definitely related, but I’ve never felt the Shard groupings had to be in line with allomancy’s external push - internal pull etc. The Shards don’t all have perfect or near perfect opposites. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/247/#e5518 https://wob.coppermind.net/events/256/#e8689
  12. It might look a little something like this (except yellow) ... 16 pieces in groups of 4
  13. Intelligence could fall under Create or similar. Ingenuity has been hinted at in WoBs as the word for the Shard, which is a synonym for creativity or inventiveness. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/123/#e3299 https://wob.coppermind.net/events/352/#e10288
  14. On the second point I think life is covered by "everything in the universe". Adonalsium created planets teaming with life along with the lifeless gas giants in Roshar. I think the Dawnshards names would cover both life and other matter in the Cosmere and I don't see that as particularly hard to do. CHANGE is equally applicable to organic and inorganic. UNITE as well. On your first point, I agree the shards fit into the 4 Dawnshard categories and are all part of the same whole. Adonalsium was the sum of what we now know of as the Shards, Dawn and otherwise. I think they were both part of Adonalsium. Somehow the Dawnshards became separate enough pre-shattering to be utilized in the shattering. The emotions Rysn felt seem like Adonalsium's before he died. It seems like they must have been a part of him if they house some of his emotions.
  15. The Unity and Passion shard groupings makes sense. Passion can't be the name though. "The Dawnshards are Commands, Rysn." Nikli in DS ch. 19. Passion isn't a command. That doesn't invalidate this grouping though. Fortune and Passion are two ideas that get the capital letter treatment from Odium. Odium mentions Fortune with a capital F to Taravangian. "Destiny" get mentioned in the Hemalurgy table, which could be a different word for Fortune and whoever wrote the table didn't know others in the Cosmere call it Fortune. None of these sound like Dawnshards though, if Nikli is correct that all 4 are commands and we have no evidence to the contrary. Fortune, Destiny and possibly Passion may be forces that permeate the Cosmere and people can tap into them with the right magic. I could see Ruin Change category shard. Sometimes you have to break a bone to set it straight, slice into someone to alter their health for good or ill. The death of a person or a planet exploding is a change to the state of that matter. UNITE fits as a Dawnshard title. I'm not sold on Dalinar already being it, but it's possible. I won't write it here, but I gave my reason in 2 comments in another thread. https://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/92890-could-dalinar-be-a-dawnshard/?do=findComment&comment=1108541 https://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/92890-could-dalinar-be-a-dawnshard/?do=findComment&comment=1108554
  16. Good catch on the book. Yeah, I get there's more than one. Yet, again why did Tanavast build his entire plan around the the person getting the Visions having access to BIND/UNITE Dawnshard if, as you say, he thought that particular Dawnshard wasn't going to be available? Yes reading the book did something for him, but he was getting the Visions shortly after. He wakes up in a the storm wagon fighting something and thinks how weird what he just experienced was in OB Ch. 114. The glow could have been the stormfather choosing him because he was reading the book . Tanavast says to "read the book" in the visions. If Dalinar also got the Dawnshard from reading the book, which seemed to play a part in the Stormfather bonding him at around same time, then they all are wrapped up in the same action Yet Honor didn't think they would be. All four Dawnshards are a Command, like what Awakeners on Nalthis use, the place where invested people see enhanced colors. Why has Dalinar never commented on seeing really vibrant colors like Rysn does? Rysn got an impression of emotions that seem to have belonged to Adonalsium, had a dialogue in her head with the Dawnshard and got an intense rush of power, why didn't he experience any of that? He sees a soft glow and then he's bonding the Stormfather and getting visions by the time her arrives at the valley.
  17. I get where you are coming from. I think it's possible, I can't disprove it with a WoB or anything. I will argue against it though . My theory on the voice saying Unite Them over and over is that it's Tanavast's Cognitive Shadow. In the visions Tanavast/Honor says "Unite Them" repeatedly. Hidden for length: It's hard for me to square Tanavast/Honor saying "Unite Them" in just about every Vision he created and then saying the Dawnshards won't be available to the radiants in the modern conflict in those same Visions if "Unite Them" hinges on the vision recepient being the Untiy Dawnshard. Seems unproductive. "Drive the car!" ... "I sold the car, sorry!" Succession Plan Tanavast planned for his death and his successor. He made it so whoever bonded the Stormfather was Connected to Honor's remnants and he ordered the Stormfather to bond people and show the visions to. He set it up so a member of the radiant order that specializes in creating new bonds between separate things will be Connected to the pieces of Honor and getting visions that say UNITE THEM over and over. Seems like a plan to restore the shard. Tanavast was the vessel for Honor then he died and his cognitive shadow was absorbed by the Stormfather. His CS is Connected to the remnants of Honor because he was its vessel for so long. Because the CS and the Stormfather merged in some way anyone bonded to the Stormfather is connected Honor's remnants. Stormfather didn't get Tanavast's memories or anything, I think Tanavast's CS is within the Stormfather, but still separate enough to send Dalinar "Unite Them" reminders without the Stormfather being aware. WoB support hidden for length: Golden Light Rysn experiences a golden light when she becomes the Dawnshard. We also have Dalinar's weird dreams of dead people featuring a golden light. Those being Gavilar as a child laughing in the next room in a dream WoR Ch. 89 and shopping with Nohadon in OB Ch. 103 My guess is they are a result of Dalnar's Connection to Honor's remnants. The golden light is either Honor's power or the spiritual realm (which Dalinar is able to get closer to due to his Connection to Honor). It feels different from the scorching, painful golden light Rysn experienced, but a warm familiar one. The second time Dalinar found it blinding, but still didn't find it painful. Granted it could be that each Dawnshard feels different. The perpendicularity Dalinar summons is golden, same color as the gloryspren swirling around him. Odium's power is white-gold when seen in the realm world and in the vision in OB Ch. 1. A lot of golden power in these books, not all Dawnshards.
  18. Thanks I already forgot that she said that. The Iriali are a likely suspect. Sleepless are not from Roshar is confirmed now, but they took over the duties by necessity. Then again even before the Sleepless took over guarding it, it was in Aimia. The other paintings in the chamber showed humans in front of portals though and Sleepless don’t prefer that form.
  19. Definitely Endowment belongs in there. I also agree with @Argent that Hoid had the stasis one or the “STAY!” Dawnshard because that’s more of a command. Hoid must have been complicit or feel responsible for the Shattering. He was a Dawnshard and either directly gave it to one of the 16 or gave it up and one of them got it. Without his they couldn’t have done what they did. I am expecting him not to be trying to reform Adonalsium because it seems like that is what he’s doing and I expect a twist. It has to be related though, restoring something important to him that was lost with the Shattering. If the Dawnshards truly aren’t alive as Nikli says then I doubt he cares thaaaat much about the Dawnshard he used to have. Unless it is the one that Brandon said is unlike the others and the difference is it was alive. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/226/#e4824
  20. The Dawnshard was used to kill Adonalsium and it was (and perhaps others) were used on Ashyn per the Stormfather in OB Ch. 38. The Vessels presumably still had them after they were used in the Shattering. Did Cultivation bring it with her and then deposited it on Ashyn? Or did the Vessels all give them up? If I was a Shard I wouldn’t want another Shard to still have one. If Cultivation didn’t bring the Change Dawnshard how did it get to the system? If there are only 4 why were 16 people involved in the Shattering? What did the other 12 do while 4 people became one with their Dawnshard? Provide moral support?
  21. I am not sold on Destruction being a category of 4 Shards. I feel like Change would include Ruin and Cultivation. Dying is a change, growing old and falling apart is a change. Having 4 limbs, then losing one is a change. Then regrowing the arm back is a change. It’s hard to come up with 3 more Destruction Shards whose concepts aren’t already incorporated in Ruin.
  22. These 4 Commands are the 4 groupings or categories the 16 Shards fit into. This seems heavily implied by how the 16 are grouped in the mural.
  23. I know! I can't get upset. Everyone worked fast to turn this around. It's funny what not having a firm release date does to expectations. I've been so worried I'll miss it I've been checking for updates every day the last couple weeks. With RoW I found out the release date forever ago, thought "cool!" and haven't felt that antsy about it. The preview chapter probably help that, but even so I don't feel crestfallen when I remember it's still almost 2 weeks away. While Dawnshard being pushed maybe another day makes me sad. Again, can't blame them they did this as fast as they could and originally Brandon wasn't sure he'd be able to get one done before RoW or at all this year. Plus it's so big it exceeds novella length.
  24. Leshwi would be cool! I have a strong aversion to Moash getting a lot viewpoints. His POVs in OB were the only part that dragged for me. He’s depressed Kaladin without Syl around to liven things up. Granted it’s been year and he may have changed some. The other thing is he seems to have something supernatural going on with him with the way he tried to appeal to Kaladin to give up his pain. Maybe not, that’s speculation. If there is something supernatural I would think Brandon will wait to reveal that secret until aa climactic moment and having a bunch of interludes could hurt that. But your right, Moash is a strong possibility.
  25. Between checking the news for updates on the US election and checking for updates on what day/time Dawnshard is coming this week I have been fruitlessly checking websites way too much . Today is the day though, so pumped!
