Welcome! I second Joe's request for that fanart. And I'm actively trying not to go into my rant about the "dark" trend in fantasy lately, simply because I try not to turn into a frothing madman in front of new members. I save that for after you have at least ten posts.

That reminds me. Another one I have. Adaptability/Super-Immunity My immune system is ridiculously strong, and I adapt to medication faster than should be possible. I haven't been sick in two years, and the last time I was, it lasted less than a day. Medications rarely work after the first few pills (which is something of a disadvantage) before my body adapts to them. I've been in rooms filled with people coughing and hacking their lungs out, sometimes accidentally on me, and never caught a thing.

It's fun for us. ^^

You're setting a nasty precedent, Eero. If you start doing your job, the rest of us are going to be expected to do the same! And where will that get us?

Audiobooks depend entirely upon the reader they get for it. A poor reader can ruin an otherwise good book. I enjoy audiobooks, usually getting through one a month or so, depending on the length of the book. It's a different kind of immersion factor, as you can't skim the pages, and the story if being recited right into your ear. With a good reader, the different characters get very distinct voices. They aren't for everyone, though. Some people honestly can't stand them, because they prefer the physical copy, or because the reader distracts them from becoming immersed. What I would do, is use Writing Excuses promo through Audible to get a free book, and see what your friend things of audio at no cost (providing you cancel the membership before the two-week trial period is over).

That is a very, very good idea. I'll add it to my list. ShardPins should be fairly easy, presuming we can find the right place to make them.
-
Now that is just ridiculous! Endowment is a Shard of the vase that was Adonalsium. He did not exist until Hoid knocked it over. Tsk tsk, people, get your theories straight. Everything happened AFTER Hoid knocked over his wife's priceless vase.

Uncontrolled Super-Hearing This is one I cannot turn off. Due to my head injury a number of years ago, I lost my ability to filter sounds. So I hear everything around me - I can't NOT hear it. So even in a crowded room, with multiple conversations around me, I can hear a quarter landing on the floor. Soccer-Ball Targeting They won't let me play soccer anymore. Everytime I kick the ball for a goal, it would zoom directly at the goalie's head - additionally, the goalie would somehow forget how to dodge out of the way, and be hit with the full impact. I knocked out three goalies during gym class before they asked me to stop attempting goals. After that, the ball would just fly toward a random person's head. Eventually, they asked me to stop kicking the ball altogether. Super-Sneakiness I have the ability to make no noise at all when walking up behind people. I'm not trying to be sneaky, but for some reason I am so silent I make people jump when I suddenly speak or they turn to see me. I have more, but that's enough for now, I think.

Okay, this is easy. Say 'Shiver'. Say it a few times. Get a good hang of it. Then, say 'tongue', as in that appendage inside your mouth. The one that, actually, lets you say this exact word and all others. Try it out a few times. Then, put both words together. If you like, add the rest of my Discordian Pope name, 'von Slamdance'. And don't forget the silent and invisible 'q' in the middle of 'von'. 'Slamdance' should be simple. There is a story behind the name. But I won't be telling you what it is.

17th Shard Twitter Type People
Shivertongue replied to Silus - Shard of Flame's topic in Social Groups, Clans, & Guilds
In addition to the one I posted earlier in the thread, I also tweet somewhat frequently from @17thShard. In fact, anyone following the #alloyofline coverage, that was primarily me. -
Now Joe, you know spikes are reserved for staff.

I'm not on board with a bound 'Ars Arcanum' or 'Brandonology' type of thing, simply because of the sheer amount of potential copyright and legal issues. We're kinda trying to avoid that.

That would, for the most part, completely negate the effect of the ads. Second, the issue with premium membership that I have is that it splits the community into two parts, essentially introducing a classist system. I do not care for such things. Secondly, having people pay $20 a year or whatever just to not see ads is pretty lame.
-
Not only time-consuming, but essentially pointless. People know that they risk running into spoilers around here, and the coding to prevent it would be insanely complex and, in the end, not worth it. The best way to avoid any spoilers, if it matters to people, would be to avoid any theory threads and any sections on books that you haven't read. That's far easier, and doesn't make us have to do a lot of work that is essentially avoidable. Also, that's what spoiler tags are for.

One thing about shirts and plushies and things along those lines... these are already designed. I've had many for several months to a year now, and every so often I whip up another one when I'm bored. Naturally, not everyone of them could be made and sold, because that might end up costing too much for us, and if we find out that demand for one is almost nonexistent, then, well... yeah. So, once we have everything arranged (because it looks like a business license will be required for us to sell anything, or get ads) I plan to post the various designs to see which ones people like the most. Some of them will be standard - 17th Shard shirts and the like, with just the logo - while others will be more specialized. And no, I won't tell you what those will be. Not until we're ready to actually start making them. My vote, thus, is for merchandising and ads. I'm firmly against any kind of paid membership, as it creates a sort of 'class system' between paid members and non-paid members, and the idea of this site is that we're all fans of equal standing. Excluding Admin, of course, who are your overlords and have the right to hemalurgically spike you whenever the whim takes us.

I think one did get it, but he said he was too far back to really get everything. If my phone had had a decent enough charge, I could have recorded it myself, provided I stopped tweeting long enough.
-
You know, until that last sentence, I thought you were actually serious.
-
Wait... was that random, or did you deliberately pick it? I'm pretty sure I handled that sign-up, and my memory is going both ways... Remember, though, I was severely sleep-deprived at that point. And I still am. ...What am I doing awake and posting here?
-
No man, YOU are awesome! Thanks again for everything, especially the t-shirt. I was out of clean ones at that point.
-
Ah, don't worry about that. The worst that will happen is that we'll relentlessly mock you.
-
Assuming it can work over a forum. Other discussion has been to get some people and play over Skype. However, you could also check out Mistborn: The Inquisition, a sister site of ours that hosts a pure-text, character-driven Mistborn roleplay.
-
Welcome! Glad to have you with us. Yes, this is something I have noticed as well, that you don't run into many people who have read the books. At the same time, everyone who is a fan seems to have a few stories of people they have, essentially, converted into fans. It's quite fascinating, when you look at it closely; it's almost like missionaries, spreading some kind of gospel. Only about fantasy, and not religion. (I will not say it, I will not say it, I will not say it...)
-
Welcome to 17th Shard. Your signature amuses me, as do yourself. Once the Mistborn RP comes out, I was planning to see if we could manage to do a game of it through the forum, possibly over Skype. More on that as I remember what the idea was.

Impromptu staff meeting in the big tent last night. Lots of fun stuff discussed, and lots of evil cackling on my part. Got three more people camping out now, as well. On the negative side, sadness. I wanted waffle this morning, but the 'Cougareat' appears to be close on Sunday...

Sorry Joe, our tent rocks.
