Yay! Less overall work for the staff as a whole! *throws confetti*

The Clan for Pirate Monkeys, obviously. What more needs to be said?

Nice job!

Perhaps on the wiki's main page, we could have just one big spoiler warning?

Simple. Chasmfiend's pupate, which means they undergo a process of tranformation. We never see what they pupate into, however, because the pupating chasmfiends are always hacked open and killed for their gemhearts. If they were allowed to finish pupating, I'm betting they would form into a Thunderclast. To put it more simply: Chasmfiend = Caterpie pupating Chasmfiend = Metapod Thunderclast = Butterfree

Asked Brandon at the Chicago area signing tonight - Odium was, in fact, on Sel before the events of Elantris.

My initial reaction was simple. First off, I am, and have always been, a huge fan of The Wheel of Time. I've loved every book, even the ones most fans didn't like. It is, in my opinion, one of the best fantasy series ever written. I don't care what anyone says, what I've read of Erikson so far doesn't hold a candle to Jordan. I'm almost sad that the end of The Wheel of Time is coming soon, even though I anticipate it eagerly. I've been worried I wouldn't find a series that compares or captivates me as much. Upon finishing The Way of Kings, I am convinced The Stormlight Archive is up to that task. I would say that I think it's going to be The Wheel of Time for this generation, except saying that would be like comparing an old friend with a new; they fulfill the same purposes, but they're both awesome, in their own ways, and it simply isn't fair to compare one to the other. So that's my reaction. The Way of Kings heralds a great promise for The Stormlight Archive, and I am eager to see where things go.

I definitely want to know more about Shadesmar, and want to see a slightly larger focus on Shallon, who I find just a bare fraction more interesting than Kaladin or the other viewpoints. I think, at the moment, the two would go hand-in-hand - Shallon learning more about Shadesmar. I also want some kind of proof for my theories, which I haven't gotten around to posting here yet. I agree that Kaladin shouldn't get Shardblade or Plate, simply because it's awesome seeing someone being so cool without the fancy toys everyone else relies on. ;D

They are, quite possibly, among the sexiest fantasy book maps I have ever seen.

Theory: The Seventeenth Shard are separate
Shivertongue replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think it's kind of interesting how we always assume Hoid is up to something good... -
I don't listen to music while I read. It's the same reason I don't listen to it while I write - if I know the words, I'll want to sing along, which will distract me from actually taking in what I'm reading. I can't read in complete silence, however, since the silence itself will become a distraction. What works for me is ambient noise. The fan running, or the sounds of traffic in the distance. Stuff I can hear but zone out on. I find, for me, it allows me to become better immersed in the actual story.

Is it wrong that I want to keep two copies of TWoK?
Shivertongue replied to HardcorePooka's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yeah, the hardback is too pretty to deface. The staff is Rubix (Josh), firstRainbowRose (Mi'chelle), Shivertongue (Will), Ryan, and I. [Note to Josh, has Chris even registered here yet? What a slacker ] Our getting of ARCs is independent of being on the staff of this site. No i know, I just want to know how one persues staffdom. If you'll fix the session timeout bug in this here forum, I'd take you. (Seriously. I had to delete cookies twice just to make this post. Frickin' Eric. ;D) Joking aside, I'm afraid staffdom is by invitation only. You have to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, which is what happened to me. Or have an incredibly useful skill that we can exploit. Such as being able to make awesome code (Ryan), make awesome graphics (myself) or... um... come to think, what does everyone else do? ??? Kidding, of course. All the staff have jobs that they do awesomely, and the site couldn't be here without all of us. I expect, though, that as the site grows we'll have need for additional moderators and whatnot, which will likely be picked by long-time members who have distinguished themselves in some way. It's probably something we'll have to discuss amongst ourselves at some point. -

I'm doing the same thing. The copy I bought yesterday is for reading. The copy I buy at the "Chicago" signing will be for... um.. signing. And I can't speak for the rest of the staff on this, but that is probably the case. Of course, some of them got ARCs... -
What does that mean? For each character, you would make a new account and name it after that character. Player Information is the heading under which Handle and Contact are listed. Handle refers to the name you use, not the character, to let people know who's playing the character - for example, you would put down Silus as your handle on every character application you filled out. Contact is just how people can get in contact with you if they need to, like for coming up with plots. AIM, Yahoo, Skype, private message, whatever means you would prefer.

Honestly, it works better than BS. I always think first of the other thing BS could stand for when I see it...

You know, I was looking through the boards, and I realized that none of the staff have properly introduced ourselves to the forums at large. Yes, you know we're here, obviously, but I can't help but feel like a poor host for not introducing myself. <---- (By the way, this is BunnySkull. Respect the bunny, and he won't gnaw the flesh from your bones.) I'm Will, also known, obviously, as Shivertongue. It's short for Shivertongue von Slamdance, High Priest, Cleric, and Occasional Pope of the Paratheoanametamystikhood of Eris Esoteric. I'm a graphic design student and aspiring writer, as well as voracious reader. I also know the words to entire Beauty and the Beast soundtrack by heart. Take a look at the banner at the top - the one with the incredibly gorgeous shard logo - and the background as well. I made those. I'm the Art Director (read: Graphics Monkey) of 17th Shard. I made the banner, the logo, the background, a bunch of stuff you guys haven't seen yet, and every other graphic that will eventually grace our humble corner of the intertubes. Y'all have me to thank for making this place look pretty. I'm also in charge of Fanart, apparently, which is an easy gig considering there's nothing in there yet. As a global moderator, I have a fair bit of power at my disposal. Never fear, however, because the others have made me promise not to abuse it. Spoilsports. One day, though... I made a blog for the heck of it. Go there, I guess: Clicketey-clack!

Ha! That's the exact reason I picked up Elantris as well! Part of my ongoing theory (which has essentially been proven since a few months ago) that you can judge a book by it's cover. Anyway, welcome! Be seeing you at the just-outside-of-Chicago signing ^^

Unless I'm wrong, there was only one shard in Warbreaker.

REPORT: Midnight Release
Shivertongue commented on firstRainbowRose's article in Events, Signings, & Giveaways
Unable to make the trip, what with being a few thousand miles away and all, it's interesting to see what exactly went on. I spent the night trying to make more site graphics, watching Showtime, and then discovering that some had been making fraudulent purchases with my credit card. I posted a congrats on Brandons facebook wall about half an hour after midnight (your time), which was promptly drowned by about a gajillion other posts. Yeah, you had much more fun than I did -
I didn't steal nothin'!

The only one I can think of right now is very dirty. Hilarious, but dirty.

As the only staff member currently awake, allow me to return your greeting. Welcome to 17th Shard, still under construction.
