  1. It's only a prologue, but I've got something to submit. Some have already seen it, but it's been revised since then, and it looks as though we have new people.
  2. Except now I can't upvote it...
  3. Look inside the front cover, on the page opposite the acknowledgement. There will be a bunch of information, but around the bottom it should say which printing it is.
  4. Totally not worth it. You got the Adonalsium is a Vase theory wrong, and there was no mention of me.
  5. You can't make me pick. My favorite Bradbury story is whichever one I'm reading at the moment. That's not a cop-out, but the honest truth. I was reading a relatively recent piece of short fiction by him, Juggernaut, and as I was reading it I was thinking "man, this guy has still got it! This has to be one of his best stories ever!" And then I thought the same thing, the other day, when I flipped through The Martian Chronicles again. And now that you've gotten me thinking about The Illustrated Man, I'm becoming increasingly convinced that, no, THAT is my favorite collection. So... I pick them all.
  6. I don't hate it. I'm not especially impressed, but I don't hate it. The problem I have with it, is that while it does represent the story well, it doesn't help you guess at what the story is if you have no idea. It might not be an issue for this book, but if I were to pass it in the bookstore, without having ever heard of Legion, my first thought would be "This looks like the story of a guy who's really busy." That said, the art is good, and maybe my interpretation is just me. I would have done something a bit different, though.
  7. Fool! I AM the forum rules!
  8. Currently watching Farscape, and wondering why I never watched it when it was actually on television.
  9. And it only took us three seconds. We are good.
  10. To be fair, when Eddings was writing, a lot of those tropes were not tropes - many, in fact, became tropes because of Eddings. I would recommend the Belgariad, a five book series that is a pretty quick read. If you can get through the prologue - which held me off for about a month - then it's a fun read. Malazan is one of those series that I cannot understand the appeal of. Granted, I have only read the first book, but it was incredibly underwhelming and disappointing, I haven't managed to get past page three of the second book. The worldbuilding is fantastic, but the writing and plot overall felt amateurish to me, and the dialogue was near-abysmal most of the time. It took me two years and three attempts to finish the book, and it was a chore. I'm not trying to discourage you from reading it and deciding for yourself, just giving a differing opinion. It's a series that critics seem to love, so finding negative reviews is difficult. If you look through this thread, I know I've mentioned my dislike for the series before, in much more detail.
  11. How are people with heterochromia iridum - having two different colored eyes - treated on Roshar?
  12. Yes, and no. If handled correctly, keeping your identity a mystery can be just as - if not more - useful in terms of gaining Influence. People will be thinking about you, even if they don't know your name, and nothing spreads like a good mystery.

Hi. Sorry very random this. But I have registered but cant post anything even though I have validated my account. What to do?

  13. Once I finish this pack, yes. If I had done the math before buying this one, I'd have an extra $6 and would probably be into my first nic fit by now.
  14. I would like to announce that I just did some very interesting -and very disturbing, to say the least - math. The average I spend on a pack of cigarettes is $6.50. The average I smoke is a pack a day. That means I spend $45.50 a week on cigarettes. That means I spend $182 a month on cigarettes. Now, that doesn't seem like much, in the grand scheme of things. However, what definitely does seem like much, is this. I spend, roughly, $2,184 a year on cigarettes. My tuition, for next semester, is $1,700. I'm paying more for cigarettes than I am for schooling. And I keep thinking about what that money could be... • Four months of rent in a decent apartment. • Good food - not ramen or other cheap stuff - for about six months. • A year and a half of phone payments. • 145 books. • A visit to the movie theater - full pricing, not matinee - every week for four years. • 548 packs of Magic cards. • 859 packs of Tic Tacs. • So many waffles. And the list goes on. .....
  15. On a side note, a Soother would make an excellent babysitter. xD
  16. Shardwaffle. There. You have your word.
  17. Welcome! I upvoted you for your username. Which do you prefer, serif or sans serif? And to keep on topic, the concept that ideas are cheap, and everything they have ever said about discovery writing.
  18. A fair warning to everyone - do NOT listen to the Audiobook of The Black Prism. Worst. Reader. Ever. Horrible voices and complete lack of inflection when it was needed. It was like listening to a bored professor reading from a textbook, only occasionally make an effort to modulate his voice. Left me incredibly unimpressed with the book as a whole.
  19. Welcome! Have a waffle, courtesy of your friendly site admins! It's perfectly safe, I assure you. Don't listen to those claiming it's got a hemalurgic spike within it. Clearly such a thing is impossible...
  20. Maybe I'm odd, but I never found Szeth to be that compelling of a character...
  21. Just thought I would put this where it would be easier to find for new members. We have a chatroom, for your chatty chatting needs, hosted on freenode.net, in the #cosmere channel. It can be accessed through any means you have of accessing IRC. To access it directly from a web browser, you can just click this link. The same rules of the forums apply to the chat room, remember. Enjoy!
  22. A pleasure to have you here. On behalf of the Admins, have a waffle!
  23. Jim Butcher sprees are fun. I went through every book in the Dresden Files last year, reading them all in about a week and a half. Currently listening to Discount Armageddon, by Seanan McGuire, and listening to Deadline, by Seanan McGuire's alter ego, Myra Grant.
