  1. I get the feeling - and I probably should do a reread of the series to be sure - that Wayne isn't very comfortable having money, and prefers to give it away or invest it in other people. Thus having money he gave to someone else returning to him is likely a disturbing prospect - if I'm right, he thought of what he was doing as charity, but now its unwanted and unexpectedly returning to him.
  2. Now that would be interesting! This story looks like it might have a deep exploration of Wayne as a character, and his unhealthy dynamic with her would certainly be an arc to close before the end of the book, and thus the end of that era. Either with her ultimately forgiving him, or both just moving on, if she is involved somehow that would certainly add an interesting dynamic to the situation.
  3. My own tin-foil hat theory is that the Set was founded by Shallan, and as a direct attack against the Ghostbloods. (Not sure if this counts as a spoiler or not, but the rest is based on Thaidakar's identity:
  4. Everyone is assuming Wayne owes people money, but I think, for two reasons, that the situation is actually reversed. The reasons: Previously, Wayne invested money with and in the work of Sophi Tarcsel, who is the equivalent of Nikola Tesla's daughter, and who is likely doing very well in this modern age Dramatic irony - nowhere does Wayne say these people are after him due to him owing them anything, and everyone else is just assuming that he does because of his past habits Wayne doesn't owe people money, people are trying to track Wayne down to give him money, as a return on investments. This also might explain why he hasn't been as big a drain on Marasi in terms of metal nowadays, but that is a side issue. The bowler hat people, contrary of the beliefs of those around Wayne, are there to give him money due to his financial backing of Sophi Tarcsel's business.
  5. Providing new information is one of the many services we provide Huh ... I probably should watch some of those videos at some point then. Though if you're interested in an ... interesting play of some Sith Lords (well, they become Sith Lords ...) check out SFDebris's videos: https://sfdebris.com/videos/games/swtorinq.php (Sith Inquisitor, though he steers more Dark Side) https://sfdebris.com/videos/games/swtorsw.php (Sith Warrior, and one of his better series, goes for a Grey Sith) Looking forwards to the future posts!
  6. Very interesting and very cool article, and highlighting a sad element of history that many outside the Jewish community likely don't know about. I'll be interested to read more on this as you post them In the words of Senator Palpatine, "We will watch your career with great interest." ... wait, maybe I shouldn't have quoted the bad guy ...
  7. First mantis baby of the year! Took these photos about ten minutes ago. We successfully got it outside - and hopefully saved it from an unexpected spider!

  8. So I'm rewatching Warehouse 13, and one of the items they introduced - and criminally underused, though the show on the whole is great for all that they forget to Tesla people (I mean, its a lightning firing stun gun! Why wouldn't you use that at every opportunity?! And its a stun gun! If you're holding someone at gun point and they have an artefact they are threatening to use, unless the artefact is going to go off when exposed to the Tesla, hit them with lightning! But I digress ...) - was the Tesla grenade, and that got me thinking. What if in Era 4, there is a Nalthian equivalent of the Primer Cube technology, and Awakeners can pre-program a set of commands into a store of Breaths to throw at the enemy, taking control of the environment around them. Imagine, you are a soldier in a bunker, when suddenly a strange device lands nearby. You pause as the colours disappear from the environment, and suddenly your own clothes start attacking you. Or the corpses of your fallen friends suddenly rise up and attack. Imagine the Awakening grenade landing in the area right after a conventional grenade - a commander would have to deal with troops they sent in suddenly being killed and turned into Lifeless against them. ([Edit] Now I'm imagining a story beginning with a soldier, either a new recruit or a seasoned veteran, heading into an area with their squad, friends they've known for years, when suddenly there is an explosion and most of the squad is killed. As they lie there, still clinging to life, they see the Awakening grenade tossed nearby, and watch, badly wounded, as their friends suddenly rise up, and possibly begin attacking the remaining survivors, while they can only watch.)
  9. Happy birthday Nathrangking! I hope your day is a blessing!

      Thank you sir! As always I hope that blessings fill your day!!

  10. I have been summoned! ([Editing this post down a lot - I turned my reply into a bit of an essay! Keeping only the relevant bits) There is certainly a lot that can be said on this topic I actually have a book given to me on my birthday a few years back I need to get back to reading but it covered a lot of the general beliefs of Messianic Jews. I'm also friends with one Messianic Jewess in particular, so I'll ask her more directly on this soon, but I believe scripture is fairly clear on this, and the general gist I've gotten on this from those I know in person and those I've heard about and from, but basically a Jewish Christian is still a Jew and still lives the life of a Jew, but one who has seen the fulfilment of the promise and is awaiting Yeshua's return, and so they see both the value of the traditions but also understands how they apply to Yeshua and what He has done and fulfilled, and so they still in general - as all people are different, but these are general practises - keep Kosher, honour the Shabbat, and circumcise their males at the appropriate time after birth, but don't require this of their believing Gentile Brothers and Sisters. Others may try to push them one way or another - there are Gentle Christians who feel Jews need to become Gentiles now, a deeply flawed ironic reversal, and one just as false as Paul's opponents' claims - but either way in Christ we are all one, but being one doesn't make us identical, and Jews are free to be Jews, and Gentiles free to be Gentiles, but all are still the Church, which must be made of both - and the Jewish people are by no means removed from the LORD's plans. (There is a lot more to say on this, and this post has already become rather long, mainly because I rambled on a semi-relevant section at the start, but I'll end this section with one particular note - I personally don't think all the interpretations of Kosher laws are actually being applied correctly and may actually be being applied overzealously, but ultimately this, as Paul noted, is a matter of conscience, as is honouring one day in the week or all days. I do think that cheese and meat should be fine to eat together though - if Abraham offered them together to G-d when He visited, it probably is fine for us to eat too )
  11. Still working on the "Seven Days of Creation as a poem" post and graphic to post to the General religious discussion thread, but while doing so I've found some more interesting elements and links in those days, one in particular which means I may need to change the graphics core structure - I may need to do multiple graphics to get the full observations on the data across, but we'll see. Otherwise, how is everyone? I haven't been active here the past month and a bit - how is everyone doing? :)

      Ah. Someone who actually keeps true on promises, unlike people who promise to write about the history of Judaism and basically did nothing related to it for months.

      Me? I'm completely fine, not procrastinating on anything, why do you ask?

      Though, to be fair, I am in the IDF, so I don't really have much time to work comfortably on stuff.

    4. Ixthos

      Ixthos

      To be fair, I haven't actually posted it yet, and what I've done needs reworking, so that promise still is to be kept :P

      Also, right there with you on procrastination on other topics, though you at least have a great excuse - the IDF as a time sink is a much better reason than most, especially my own.

  12. I suppose that depends on whether Shades can receive Breath - they might not be able to, being Cognitive Shadows, with their physical presence being similar to that of a spren pulled partially into the physical realm. If you could, I would say it seems likely it would change them, though they would probably become more like Nightblood mentally than a Radiant spren, as Nightblood is a "robot spren," and so their minds would likely become affected by the nature of the Breaths they received, and possibly the command if it isn't just transferred. Of course, we also know Investiture interferes with Investiture, so their "bodies" might reject an attempt to infuse the Breath into them. Of course, if Breath could be transferred, and assuming Shades are similar to Mistwraiths in that their is a "blockage" between the Cognitive component and their physical presence, it might be possible to use the Breath like a Hemalurgic Blessing and "restore" the Shades mind to it, if it still retains one. In that case even one Breath might be enough to induce sapience, restoring the lost memories and personality to the Shade.
  13. We've all been there don't get discouraged - this is exactly the right sort of topic to theorise about here. Keep going! It is a cool theory even if I disagree with it
  14. As I recall the Shards are present in all three realms, it is just that their power is mostly in the Spiritual Realm and the concept underlying them is manifest in the Cognitive and Physical Realm, while the Dawnshards are not what I would label as primarily Cognitive - as each was associated with tearing apart a Spiritual Realm being, and Change is a good description of the idea underlying at least two shards (Ruin and Cultivation, and arguably Endowment and - as an antithesis - Preservation), it doesn't seem accurate to think of them as Cognitive Realm elements, or at least not purely Cognitive Realm elements anymore than the Shards are. Why do you suppose the Dawnshards are primarily Cognitive Realm related?
  15. I'm hoping to do a post on this at some point in the future covering my thoughts on this, but basically I think Identity is the type of connection that spans realms and causes different "things" to be considered one thing in the Cognitive Realm - so basically every atom - or axi - that make up an object in the physical realm are joined together with Identity to form the bead or misty construct in the Cognitive Realm, and going on further to form a node in the Spiritual Realm that itself then contains connections to other nodes in the Spiritual Realm. Basically if you think of the three realms stacked on top of one another then Identity is the "vertical" connection that spans across realms, and Connection is the "horizontal" connection within the Spiritual Realm that can be seen mirrored down in the Cognitive and Physical Realm. Identity says two things are one, and are the reason individual axi become a single object in the Cognitive Realm, and Connection says two things are related but not the same.
  16. That sounds like a plausible and cool method to try to get around being consumed. I don't know if it would work and I don't know if most people would be willing to risk it to try the method, but if it could be done I would enjoy seeing this done in the books, or at least attempted. What would also be interesting would be to see if, once you are connected to Nightblood in such a way, any Investiture Nightblood consumes would also flow into you, that while Nightblood absorbs Investiture if it suffuses everything that Nightblood considers to be a part of it.
  17. Depending on whether the initials are in glyphs or the Latin alphabet ... probably keep it and try to revive the deadeye spren if it is a deadeye. What would you do if you found [REDACTED] in your pocket, with [REDACTED] [REDACTED] attached, and a [REDACTED] in your pocket?
  18. Return it to Valinor. ... Does anyone know where Valinor is? What would you do if you found a spare copy of your favourite friend or family member in your pocket?
  19. I'd ask them for a tour. What would you do if you found a radioactive spider in your pocket?
  20. Why do I do this to myself?

    • I have to work on my dissertation;
    • I have to get the Genesis 1 post completed for the General Religious discussions thread, including the chart;
    • I have to message several people, as well as finish a debate with someone online;
    • I have to work on one of my Stormlight theories to post here - though I might do a Cosmere or Mistborn theory instead - that list isn't going to shrink itself, and it also has the unfortunate tendency to grow;
    • I have to update my journal (not a Planescape reference) for what happened over the last week;
    • I have to fill out the June Edit log for my writing, and update the internal links and list of the contents in the weekly logs for the end of May;
    • I have to complete the post about my meta-setting to post in the Creator's Corner;
    • I have to finish that bloody short story (and finish the outlines for at least two of the novels);
    • I have to make more silly videos for my niece and nephew (I take my uncle duties seriously)
      • on that note, I need to learn more magic tricks for them;
    • I have to clean my workspace and room;
    • I have to organise my files and clear up space;
    • I have to finish rereading 1 and 2 Samuel, along with the associated commentaries;
    • (I have certain elements of my personal life to get in order);
    • I have to go to bed before midnight and try to actually be asleep before 03:00 am;
    • ... I have to stop putting so many things on the plate, or at least prioritise them better;
    • I needed to get that off my chest.

    ... So, how is your week going? :P;):D

  21. I would see if I could use it. WWYDIYF a small accordion in your pocket?
  22. Will do it probably will only be in a couple of weeks, but I will endeavour to do that. Have a good one!
  23. Make sure I had something to read it with. WWYDIYF a small sabretoothed squirrel carrying an acorn IYP?
  24. God hiding Himself yet also making Himself manifest is a point repeatedly mentioned in scripture, and actually ties into one of the (as I see it) design goals in creation, and is a topic I would like to get into (seriously, the list of topics I want to cover is growing enormously). Still, I'm afraid I don't see how the universe is now differs from one that was created - I mean, I could listen to a piece of music and say it was clearly designed, but someone else listening could say it is just natural sounds, the rhythm and beat not requiring an agent, etc. And indeed there are lots of things I could point to which I could argue to be signs of design, and which others could say are not, but I don't want to get too far ahead of this right now - I need to focus on getting the Seven Days of Creation post complete before I go too far down any other rabbit hole. Suffice it to say I believe I can make an argument for evidence for God's existence from observed phenomena as well as purely philosophical reasons tied to the logic of origins, but for now I'm going to try to get that first post done first; I'm letting myself get too distracted right now, though I'm glad this sort of discussion is happening
  25. @Nameless okay, I said I am going to cover this in the general religious discussion thread, but two things: Day 1 can't have been 24 hours by the pure logic of it - light was created as the start of that act of creation and the LIGHT was called day; day can't mean 24 hour period. It, and its pair with day 4, are all about the creation of time and means of measuring time, but day is used in the first instance of the word in the scriptures to refer to light, and therefore if taken literally it means the 12 hour period; If it is poetic then allusions to day and morning and evening are elements of its poetic structure; much like talking about one's love being a rose and referring to her thorns doesn't mean you really are talking about a rose and not a human If you object to it being poetry - and I am going to make a strong case for it being poetry - why do you do so? It being poetic means evening and morning? Maybe - if this topic is going to be discussed further here - it might be best if you give our objections to the points I listed in my previous post here so I can mull them over in advance of the specific topic discussion.
