The sorcerer quickly threw his hands up in front of his face. The mass of Investiture copied the movement, creating a blazing wall that Deras crashed into. "If these fools had given up the traitor," the sorcerer said, muffled by the wall of energy, "then there would have been no need to hold you hostage!"

The sorcerer may have been injured, but he wasn't dead yet. That was Deras's first mistake. The second was allowing the stranger to heal him. With a transhuman roar, the sorcerer dodged the blade, brought up his hands, and blasted Deras with a bolt of lightning, tossing him away. The sorcerer rolled over, getting up to one knee and thrusting his hands to the side. "Where. Is. She!" he shouted, a maelstrom of frothing Investiture whirling around him.

Alright, sorry about the absence. School has been crazy the past few days, but I finally have some free time! Two words: No. Alright. Sounds good. What's the "perfectly reasonable explanation"? Yep. That's about what I was thinking. I like this. Especially with someone as powerful and tragic as Mortarion, the leaders really need to have a lot of flavor to them. It'll make connecting with the different armies easier (I hope ). This is a great idea, and exactly what I wanted this project to end up being. There's so much story potential to be mined in the crossover between 40k and Sanderson- how would the normally xenophobic space marines react to casual use of magic and friendly non-humans? How does advanced warfare change when Investiture meets sci-fi tech? This is totally something I would support.

The sorcerer glanced down at Araha, shaking his head. "I am a disciple of Tzeentch, child," he said. "I know lies like I know my own soul- you cannot hope to deceive me." He looked back up, pointing towards Deras. "I know the child of the Enemy is here!" he roared. "Surrender her now, with no trickery or falsehood, or this woman dies!"

The sorcerer glanced lazily at Damaya, then turned away to gaze at the crowd. The circle of marines shuffled, armored boots stamping down the fresh snow. "A woman," he finally said, looking over the crowd. "Named Damayakan Vulken. She's here, playing as one of you. Bring her to me, and then we'll talk."

"But of course," the sorcerer said. His sword didn't move an inch. "All of this will be resolved, if you just cooperate. "You," he continued, gesturing to the crowd around him, "have something that doesn't belong to you. My master wants it back."

"Well," a voice said above Araha. "Isn't this touching." An armored boot shoved Damaya to the side as a Chaos marine teleported in beside Araha. Dozens of massive marines followed, warping into reality and surrounding the sorcerer, guns pointed outwards in a ring of death. A lound crunch resounded from the rooftop as another marine teleported onto the turrets, crushing them with his fists. Faster than the human eye could follow, a burning blade was at Araha's throat. "If any of you move," the sorcerer said calmly, "she dies."

A bright-red beam of fire lanced through the storm, hitting Astiel right in the chest and blasting him back off the cliff. (Not that it killed him, of course. The Shardblade suggested that this man had Stormlight, so he'd probably be fine.) Across the battlefield, Gunner Fredrick grimly lowered the lascannon. "No von," he said, "steals zhe Iron Warriors vhunder."

A shadow crossed the threshold. ... Silence. ... A black-armored Chaos marine stepped into Dayne's view, and knelt in front of the prone Coinshot. Ghostly warpfire ran across his armor, quietly echoing with the screams of the damned. "Shhh," it said, reaching towards the twisted sword on its back. "It'll all be over soon."

The Vindicators' cannons boomed again, sending explosive shells crashing into the Waystop. Though the armor held, one of the shells burst into the interior, landing right between @Sorana and @Cyanic. The Vindicators' sponsons blazed away at the enemy around them, firing streams of bolter shells and bursts of plasma. The fallen Vindicator's hatch popped open, and an Iron Warrior stuck his head out. He aimed his plasma gun right at Deras's head, and pulled the trigger. ---------------- But with all the explosions and shouting, no one could hear the quiet whine of the anti-Chaos turrets as they activated and turned towards the back of the Waystop...
