  1. I can't get into details, since the way any of this exists is kind of everything I have (I have more, but this is what my father gave me when he told me the idea, so it's kinda more important.) Now, I am presenting my real opinions and hopes for the future (the book is not necessarily what you'd think it is from this following reasoning, and it doesn't need be): Yeah, it's hot. Worse, little-to-no oxygen. Not much acid except for clouds, though. You can get water if you bring it or make it. On Mars, even if you make an ocean, it will vanish to space - the water will be hit by extreme radiation, will separate to oxygen and hydrogen, and both, too light to be bound by such inferior gravity, will escape. That's why there is barely an atmosphere there. And no oceans. The radiation will be mostly unfiltered, while earth's is extremely tame because we have an atmosphere. This means death to everything alive. Especially death by cancer. I don't see Mars terraformed, but Venus... it just seems highly unlikely. In a millennium or two (and genetic manipulation), it might be a brave new world (WotW anyone?). Those were real-life reasons for real-life Venusian colonies. In the book itself, it will be somewhat different. And I'm not telling you anything about that right now.
  2. Well, as I did not exactly say, my father thinks it was not. By the way, he has had a passion for films and film critiquing most of his life.when searching for the price here (I'm sure it was more than 10$), I opened a popular service for choosing films. In it, Ender was rated 8.3 by surfers, and 'exceptionally good' by a professional (which was 3.5 of 5 stars. Strange system). I chuckled at the 'exceptionally good', since it actually was exceptionally good for a book-to-film. It was a bit fun and had nice animation, at least. And that chuckling of yours reminds me - Ender is told to do an amount of pushups (was it 20, 30?), but does only half.
  3. I might sneak behind him on breakfast and steal some of it. I don't really know actors, but Potter's Dean whatshisname's actor might be a nice spook. Alexandra Daddario might work for Shan, and I could be TLR (assuming he can be 17 instead of whatever he is. Oh, and 1.65 instead of 1.whatever he is). Or Kel. He's tall. Tom Cruise would be... [wipes the records] I did not say that. I did not enjoy the GA. Audible certainly did a much finer work.
  4. Yeah, Xeno and Speaker is a known dispute as for where to stop. Myself, I read all of the main series and gave up on the shadows. I have to mention my father's reaction (as we went together). He felt that at least half the plot was leaning on external knowledge (the book), and that the characters were flat. Therefore, he rated it as 'the worst film he had ever seen'. I saw something in it - especially the mind game, which was great. However, we both agreed that: A. Peter and Val vanished (and she was quite good, I think it was a wrong choice, although a viable one) B. Petra is his love interest? Thank you, mainstream American movie culture, for being so dumb. C. Colonel Graff shouted. (Pa was particularly disappointed in Ford (whom he considers a great actor) here) Thank you again, American movie culture, for your wealth of stupidity. As anyone who have been in the army knows (and yes, everyone here knows that - mandatory recruitment), that is in boot camp, and some time after then. But not nearly all the time, especially after boot camp. And even then, not all officers do that, mainly the one directly above you (mr. Black McPush-ups), not the person in the highest rank (Graff commands the whole ashy thing - he has silent power). D. Not worth recommending nor recognizing. I would say it is worth the money, but this list is what what my father and I did agree upon. (ninja'd by Kurk) you like xkcd as well? Cool. Note: he is referring to the hint/title-text. Which means text that appears when your mouse pointer stays hovering motionlessly above the comic for a few seconds.
  5. That everyone obsesses over Mars in sci-fi. Every single time there is life (human or otherwise) on another Solar body, it's Mars. Venus is the actual heaven, and it is largely unexplored. This is, at least, my side of things.
  6. Only if they are flaming puppies (literally, not in the WoT profanity meaning). I really don't like K9s, but appealing to my pyromania might work... I do not think it likely, but we must have seen a herald other than the Mistress... Maybe Cusacesh? What's the deal with Axies, anyway?
  7. Jag, you are a great example for an argument I'm having with some people. Also, I am writing a book whose setting/exposition show these arguments (because I discovered them after starting the book). Basically, the thing is that everybody thinks of colonizing Mars and of life there, but I have a better option (both more probable and more interesting).
  8. Buy. We can't get one of the shards we know, so we must get someone else. (SoSiFoH is in a new world, right?) A viewpoint will commit suicide this decade. (Kel-type suicides do not count, only ones of despair or something like that) (FYI, I strongly disagree with anyone contemplating suicide. It just feels that if he lets characters suicide, they should not do it from altruism. At least not all the time)
  9. My current solution is to go leaping about through the mists of writing, especially those of MBI. I really do recommend it to you all. Can't. Storming. Wait. For the. Lord Ruling. WoR. To come. Out. *falls from emotional exhaustion*
  10. Szeth can't lash the bracers, TLR can't push or pull on the shardblade. Nor store anything in it. Sorry, those are pre-invested (invested before the action (e.g. lashing) happens) objects. It is not certain whether if you cannot invest pre-invested objects, or if it takes alot of effort and concentration (which is tough to do if 17S.com just proved you have no edge). Either way, can't be done (unless if they are completely drained, which won't happen). Now, if that was not the case, TLR could push the blade away, leaving mr. grandson with only lashes, which would not work on the body, leaving Szeth open to the Deadlies Bitchslaps in the Recorded History of the Cosmere.
  11. The first two (assuming I will add more) are holocaust-related half-pagers (even less?). I have some drawered/barely-started projects I'm working on (including a book), but they aren't in a form where I can say what will be the first chapter, even. #1: Mejdanek We went to the Rosegarten. We went to the Rosegarten. It was green, not snowy and red. Around, brown shacks stood - squat but looming, threatening. The 49 of us entered Bad und Desinfaktion I, where I coughed all the time - it started within a second or two of entering. It all smelled like crumbling stone and wrinkles, and we ventured into a place of wooden despair. (that was about half) #2: The pits of death It was a forest. It was a forest. Anonymous, indistinguishable from others, halfway into autumn. The air was just beginning to darken, and I could smell the wonderful scent of greenery. The cold, I could only feel through my hands and my face. The group descended slowly into a large pit - crevices for killing. (that's about a third of the story)
  12. I won't go for the "violated Relativity" theory. For one, Relativity does not seem to bear a direct connection to our bubbles. Besides, violating physics seems wrong to me. Brandon said that the Cosmere has the same physics as our universe, so I hesitate to say it differs in it's laws of physics. Of course, there is the fact that according to what I could gather, it could not have the same physics, but this is beside the point. Kurk, what did you do to bait physics? It seems to have been on your side (at least from my perspective) at the time of your post, at the very least.
  13. Vin knows... what? A. What Kel taught her. (which is wrong) B. What she discovered by experimentation (which is not much) C. Nothing about the Cosmere. I would say she might be wrong. By the way, only Atium and Lerasium regenerate. It was confirmed that if Scadrial had much more Allomancers, it would have had the danger of being hollowed from metal.
  14. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to buy now, but I will. I happen to be very free with my money. Ironeyes or Harmony will tell some of the real history to someone (either offscreen and consequential or onscreen with no other conditions) in the WnW series.
  15. By the way, the Audible people of WoK and MB really know their comedic timing. MB1's spook-dialect taunting of Breeze is really well done, and so are the "Kabsal!"s. Can't recall all of the best moments, though. I definitely did have goosebumps at certain parts.
  16. Don't you remember them counting at the Yomen marriage? Wax is at least three times more efficient.
  17. What? I'm sorry, but your talk of dragons makes no sense to me... could you please explain what it has to do with the letter? Or, presumably, anything Cosmere?
  18. I just did, thank you! Seems interesting, but it is dead... too bad.
  19. Buy - Kal does not kill for personal reasons. If he even thought like that, Syl would dump him. The letter was addressed to Harmony.
  20. I, personally, thought it was clear that it is possible to do that. How else would Kel spin the rods while fighting the Inquisitor? If I am remembering correctly, the narrator actually says that "Kelsier Pulled on one side, Pushing the other, making the rods spin", or something like that. This means the lines are actually not thick, but so many, so close together, they appear to be one bold line. One use for this (mistborn only, though) is using torque to spin a rod (by Pushing one side, this will also shift the mass to the side you Pushed on), then repeating (so it continues) with the other side. Every few times, you switch from Pushing to Pulling on the other side to avoid a diagonal line. It will be extremely hard to master, and might actually go in a circle, but still, oddly useful, especially for showing off.
  21. Cute line! I want to discuss with you how to make Cosmere pickup lines, but not here. I am not so proficient at fixing those. Can you search in your coppermind and tell me what it says the problem is?
  22. I've tried both (Audible with all his Cosmeres, GA with Elantris), and found Audible much more entertaining. (note: I just bought my first print Sanderson! it is FE, and the signature is going to be awesome! I had an idea I think no-one have had yet. don't ask what the idea is, I won't tell until the book arrives and I have pictures, and this will probably not happen in the next two months) GA advertises as a "Movie in your Mind", but the fact that I still need a narrator and that things like action scenes happen really slowly made me really dislike them. Additionally, the reading-out is overacted to get us to understand who the characters are (which is bad), the names are pronounced awfully, and there may have been another thing... Audible has great narrators (except Warbraker, whose narrator is OK), and the narrators responsible to Mistborn, SA and WoT (all have the same two (male and female), except for Mistborn, which is only the male, who is much better) are magnificent. It is much more modest, but gives you everything very fully. The only fault I found was that in WoA, the only time the female narrator says Sadeas's name (the scene with Navani's burning glyph), she pronounces it in a way that is unfamiliar, and it is really confusing for a couple of seconds the first time. Just like when I was young and my parents read me bedtime stories, I liked it very much that my father changed his voice to tell different characters. I think I would not have liked it if it was filled with sound effects and bad actors with strange voices. I think Dalinar went to the Nightwatcher after sshhh died. Having both the untraditional "delayed curse" and Dalinar doing such a strange thing feels, to me, wrong. I would have been much easier to buy if there was only one of those seemingly-improbable things.
  23. WARNING: the following thread is a speculation/spoiler of the Allomantic table, so those of you who haven't finished Alloy, you are advised to leave before we get Ironeyes to follow you all day. Hello fellow Scadrians! Have any of you ever thought about the Cadmium/Bendalloy pair's effects on Scadrial throughoutly? How about Chromium/Nicrosil? I did not, for most of the time. However, they bug me. The first issue I will present here is minor (which is why it was placed in a spoiler tag), and you may ignore it. However, the second one is very pressing for me. Now, to the real reason for this thread. (all numbers were chosen to be simple and round) Wax is standing next to Wayne, burning Steel. He spots a silver candlestick, connected to his chest, standing on a table about 10m away. If he were to Push on it for one second, the candlestick would just fly over at the speed of 100m/s. Wayne starts Pulsing at a 1:20 ratio, making his Bendtime twenty times faster than realtime. The candlestick, of course, is outside (Bendbubbles are much smaller). Wax tries Pushing on the candlestick for exactly one second. From now, I see four options: (Cadmium gives us the direct inversion of these results) A. Both the candlestick and Wax react as if they are in Bendtime. 1. If Wax Pushes for one second Bendtime (0.05 seconds realtime), the candlestick is flung in what seems, from Wax's point of view, like 5m/s. However, the candlestick, being in real-time, is actually moving 20 times as fast, which is 100m/s, because it is in a slower time. 2. If Wax Pushes for one second realtime (20 seconds Bendtime), the candlestick is flung in what seems, from Wax's point of view, like 100m/s. However, the candlestick, being in real-time, is actually moving 20 times as fast, which is 2,000m/s, because it is in a slower time. Here, power is gained: Wax can accelerate objects to a the same velocity more quickly, but with the same expenditure of Steel and an added expenditure of Bendalloy. B. Both the candlestick and Wax react as if they are in realtime. 1. If Wax Pushes for one second Bendtime (0.05 seconds realtime), the candlestick, being in real-time, is flung in 5m/s, and the Bendbubble has not affected a thing. 2. If Wax Pushes for one second realtime (20 seconds Bendtime), the candlestick is flung 100m/s. Here, power is lost: Wayne used up 20 seconds of Bendalloy and Wax used up 20 of Steel, but the power they got from that is equal to one second of Steel. C. Each reacts in their own timeframe. This means that everything outside the Bendbubble is twenty times harder to affect. 1. The candlestick reacts like in B. 2. If we replace the candlestick by something that is the same weight as Wax, he is affected more quickly and, maybe, more forcefully. If Wax is affected more forcefully, he can sit in a cart big enough to contain him, Wayne, and the outside of the Bendbubble, sit in the front, and with the bubble up, Push on a coin inside the cart but outside the bubble. Instant horseless (and engineless) carriage. If he is not affected more powerfully, just more quickly, I have no idea what it will be remarkable about, but I am sure there is something. Either way, it is a good anti-PushPull tactic. D. The candlestick, and everything outside the bubble, becomes Allomantically inert. The least interesting option (dare I say boring and upsetting?), but it avoids paradoxes and opinions (except ans being upset). This is a major question, since not only Steel and Iron pair are affected by that, every External metal is. Demonstrations: Can I seek inside a bubble? Can I soothe someone outside? Can I wipe someone outside? (assuming I can get a finger out without the Cosmere collapsing) (Atium is relevant, too) Thoughts?
  24. Okay, I have two declarations! 1. I have a theory about names and metal symbols. To prove or disprove it, I need as many Scadrian names (preferable first) as you can remember. 2. I have just bought a signed MB1, and it is going to be EPIC! When it arrives (two months is reasonable), I will send pictures. I know it sounds unrelated, but I have asked some questions, and what will be sent has some connection to this topic.
  25. Red and Gold could be Blood and Bloodmaking, respectively.
