New character in Edgedancer [Edgedancer Spoilers]
Pagerunner replied to WeeDunadan's topic in Stormlight Archive
They're on his website (WoK, WoR), if you can't find them in the eBook. -
[AU Spoilers] Bavadin, Autonomy, and new info
Pagerunner replied to FirstSelector's topic in Cosmere Discussion
From the Scadrian essay: If all the Vessels were human, that parenthetical statement would be superfluous. Thus, there must be non-human Vessels. -
A theory about Yolen and the 4th Era of Mistborn
Pagerunner replied to Rasarr's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I don't think we know this. To the contrary, I think Yolen is still inhabited, and hasn't been completely taken over by the fain life. Frost, the recipient of Hoid's Letter, is not a worldhopper, so he must still be on Yolen. When Brandon was working on Liar, the plan for Dragonsteel was to be a two-part Liar of Partinel duology, then a time-jump of several hundred years or so, then a 5-book main sequence. Those of us who haven't read Dragonsteel don't know much about it, but it did contain the original Shattered Plains sequence, which were stolen for Stormlight. From what we've seen in the Liar previews, I don't think the fain life wouldn't make much sense as the antagonist of a Shattered Plains story. -
Can you point me towards a quote? I try to keep up with WoBs, but I don't recall seeing that one, and it would basically confirm my view of Shards.

All are welcome here to publicly renounce the views which they had formerly held. Arcanum Unbounded was not kind to my ideas. I hereby officially disavow myself of the following theories: The Forescouts were Worldhoppers. We have received official confirmation that they came from another continent, not another world. The Parshendi aren't the Voidbringers. I thought the spren-inhabited Parshendi were not the true Voidbringers. Nale says otherwise. I cannot argue. Trell is a local Scadrian phenomenon. I thought it was schizophrenic Harmony or possibly the extra piece of Ruin. If Autonomy interferes with other Shardworlds, then it seems overwhelmingly that it is her in Scadrial. (I still hold that Trellium is not a new god metal, but an atium alloy, and that Harmony doesn't recognize it because of the forces working to limit his knowledge.) Dominion and Devotion have combined. They have most certainly not combined, and the conflict between them powers the Dor. I will need to reconsider one of my other ideas: that Shardic Intents are Divine Attributes. The other Intents we've known, I have been able to mesh with an attribute of God, most with several possible interpretations. I have no concept of God's Ambition, though. I think there's too much going for this theory, especially with the Intents of the Rosharan Shards, to toss it out. But I will need to consider how Ambition fits into this view, or what else it could be a euphemism for. So, which of your theories were demolished by the new content?

Yes. The author himself has said he has expanded Adolin's role, and that he will 'dig into things with him in this book.' I will read the book before judging whether or not he has a satisfactory character arc.

Arcanum Unbounded Tour Thread
Pagerunner replied to Ted aka WinespringBrother's topic in Events and Signings
It's at the Babbio Center, a building at Stevens Institute of Technology. Apparently, it has an attached parking deck. It looks promising. -
So, having gotten a hold of the hard copy, I have some detailed observations about the endsheet: It appears to be an in-universe depiction. There are cracks running all through it, so it looks like an old painting. The names are not cracked, so they are not part of the original piece; it probably had no words, much like the Way of Kings endsheets. The cracks do not run through the stars, so they are probably glass or something like that. The rays coming from each star aren't affected by the cracking, so they're probably not painted on. It's probably just a representation of the light sources, and it's important to note that only the planets we've seen (plus Nalthis) have these rays. They're probably brighter because they're closer (or, in the case of Taldain, fairly close and also just plain brighter). If the constellations are viewed from Yolen, then it makes sense that major Shardworlds will be closer to Yolen; the Shards aren't going that far after the Shattering. Is this the entire night sky? I don't think so, and I think there are more Shardworlds that aren't visible. The net in the Drominad constellation extends off the edge of the image. Any amateur stargazers care to comment whether or not our night sky can be entirely mapped in a rectangle? Or if we can even put the northern and southern hemispheres' constellations on the same image? With Nalthis being someone's breath, Roshar being an armored warrior, and First of the Sun being someone on a boat, I find it hard to believe that these constellations were not fabricated in response to the cultures on those worlds. But I doubt there was Shardbearing before Honor and Cultivation went to Roshar or Breath on Nalthis before Endowment, so that would imply that they were named late. But Scadrial isn't in its own constellation, which would make sense if they were named early, since it didn't have a habitable planet before the Shattering. So, I'm wondering exactly when these constellations were created.

We have confirmation that Odium is on Braize. With Khriss's mention of Cognitive Shadows on the planet, I think it's definitely behind their perception of the afterlife.

The exception that proves the rule. Before that info was widespread (there have always been WoBs about it, but nothing published or in annotations), Brandon wouldn't have any reason to go out of his way to offer that fact on Scadrial.
-
The Derethi believe that Jaddeth will rise from the earth. It's possible that the planet itself is what's speaking to Wyrn, and it wanted to destroy the Elantrians for some reason. Not saying I agree with the theory; but it seems the earthquake is related to the planet coming alive, and the Derethi could definitely be listening to the planet.
-
Here's another quote from Brandon that says the planets were named before the Shards got there. We had a name for our planet before we even knew it was a planet. (If you say that it was renamed to Threnody, that I don't have anything against.)
-
Which country are you in? US has the 22nd. I think UK has the 24th.
-
That would imply the system wasn't named until after the Shattering, which seems to contradict the implications from elsewhere in the essays that humanity predated the Shattering of Adonalsium and the arrival of the Shards.

Hey, who says Odium targeted Ambition. Maybe Ambition saw Odium killing Devotion/Dominion, said "I can take him!" and then promptly got beaten. Other things I found interesting from the essays that weren't previewed: Scadrial The gas giant names seem like they're from the Southerners. Anyone able to provide some Scandanavian or German linguistic insight? Selish Ground coming alive. I would be remiss to not mention this. Three large empires. Obviously, Rose and Fjordell. Does Elantris count as the third? Cognitive Realm Shards confirmed. Threnodite Is Ambition the Shard without a planet? Killed in interstellar space, pieces flooding Threnody and latching onto souls to form Shades? Is The Evil a remnant of Ambition? Or something else entirely? It seems to be local to this system, not the cosmere-level threat I had originally thought it to be. Where do Perpendicularities come from? What is this 'somewhat morbid origin.' Does it involve the Shades? Taldain Khriss's explanation leaves the door open for Bavadin to be the sun, and in my mind strongly points there. Bavadin isn't just Invested in Dayside. Autonomy must be Trell. Interfering with other planets. I didn't want it to be true, but I can't argue with it now. The textual evidence is too strong. Roshar Oh, boy. Wow. Things on Roshar sure get broken a lot. I bet whatever Shattered the Shattered Plains is the same thing that broke Ashyn. Remember, the gas giants aren't named after the Heralds. They're just numbers 1-10 (which, in turn, come from the Heralds). The Shades of the Knights Radiant theory comes out stronger than ever! Cognitive Shadows on Braize! Spren are the personifications of the natural forces. This is also given voice in the Threnodite essay, where Khriss says that the spren became self-aware because of "peoples' focus on the surges as being alive." 'Humanoid Life.' Not Human. Humanoid. It sounds like the Listeners might be responsible for the spren. Honor and Cultivation transformed the planet's nature. What did it look like before they got there? Were there self-aware spren? Endsheet Someone else said that constellations only make sense when viewed from a planet. I like the idea that they're Yolen's constellations. There are a lot of stars on there. I wonder what other ones hold major Shardworlds. I bet Brandon has most (if not all) of them named. Wait a minute, is Threnody's star going red? Maybe it is connected to the Red Rip. When were these constellations made? I find it hard to believe that Nalthis is someone's breath, coincidentially. @Mason Wheeler, SSFH happens after Warbreaker. The Shades are a direct result of Ambition's shattering, but the Evil is something else that happened much later.

Is the image after Brandon's preface in the Amazon.ca preview the same as the endsheet? (link to listing)

Here he has. It was a few years back, and he's since gender-swapped a White Sand character, so it's possible he switched things up. Like how he's said if he had a time machine, he would have made Ham a woman in Mistborn. Here, he gets his chance to do a similar change to Dragonsteel.

100% chance in my mind you'll get a RAFO from Brandon on the second one (he's RAFOd it before), 99% on the first. He's spoken before how he's cracking down on handing out info on the original Vessels, as they're the Dragonsteel characters. But I really like that third one.

This looks like it could be a direct line from the Diagram, possibly a follow-up to one we've seen in the WoR text. We'll see if we get more Diagram notes in Oathbringer. Here's the Diagram epigraph that it's most likely referring to: The Diagram calls for the assassination of Dalinar to prevent Alethkar from uniting. If they can't kill him, they'll need to do something else to fracture the nation, something much more extreme. I wouldn't necessarily call it a 'contingency plan,' since the Diagram already presents two 'branches,' one where Dalinar tries to unite Alethkar, one where he doesn't. This sounds like a further branch of the first path, but one where Dalinar lives. Which is a little hopeful, since from the info in WoR either Dalinar would have to die or Taravingian would have to deviate from the Diagram, and now here's an option where neither happens. But at what cost?

IIRC, he's said before it would cover the ~300 years between HoA and Alloy, and could involve a lot of Marsh.
