The stated target is usually a 6-month period where a new book has its own forum. In practice, that can be a little bit longer; you'll want to wait until the subforum has been merged to openly discuss it. (And, don't forget, discussing a book in another series' forum always requires a spoiler tag.)
-
What's the spoiler policy for AU information? Obviously, Secret History stays in its subforum for now. Will Edgedancer get a subforum of its own? All the other stories, I assume are fair game, since they've been published before. But what about the essays? Their content appears to be glorious, glorious WoB-esque infodumps, not stories. There's no spoiler policy for WoB's; do they fall under that umbrella? If they are treated like stories, will they only be publically discussable in Cosmere Theories, or will a sub-forum for the essays be created anywhere? (Basically, the essays are our first release of new encyclopedic text, and I wonder if a more lax approach could be appropriate since there are no plot points to spoil.)

@Argent, does anybody even name rings in real life? @PallonianFire, I'd expect that the moons of the outer planets have names, but aren't marked on the star chart. If this system is anything like ours, the gas giants should have many more moons than just 3 or 4 apiece; the diagram might not be comprehensive, and thus only name the one relevant satellite and illustrate that the gas giants do, in fact, have moons around them.

I'm pretty sure we're not actually disagreeing on anything (the best kind of arguing, in my opinion). In fact, the only thing I've said we can prove about Silverlight is that the following two statements cannot be simultaneously true: The Ones Above are from Silverlight Silverlight is on a planet we haven't seen before We can't prove either of those individual statements, so we can't determine which one is false. (Sentence 2 of my post didn't just lead from Sentence 1, but also Sentence 3 of the post I was quoting.) It's also possible that both of them are false. Well, we can prove one other thing concerning Silverlight: Brandon is certainly enjoying himself.

[Arcanum Unbounded Spoilers] The world inhabited solely by...
Pagerunner replied to Landis963's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I don't think we know enough to say "probably" yet, and from what we've read, Khriss doesn't know either. Both sound possible, but Khriss didn't mention either of them. As the most knowledgeable person in the cosmere, when she says it's a mystery, it's definitely a mystery! -
Brandon name-dropped Silverlight as a city on Twitter, when talking about population centers in the Cosmere. We know nothing else about it. It's not the expeditions that give me pause; I was addressing the suggestion that Silverlight was located on a world we haven't seen before. If it's the same group that sent both the Shadesmar expeditions and the spaceship expeditions, then either Silverlight is located on a world we've seen before, or there are some serious verbal gymnastics going down to justify how a group that sent out expeditions hundreds (thousands?) of years ago still considers themselves to be from somewhere else entirely. EDIT: Wrong source.

Planet. Not a system, a planet in the Rosharan system that has no people, only Splinters. Of the three major Shardworlds, Braize takes the cake, but there are other worlds without sentient life, and it could possibly be one of those.

Silverlight is a place, that sends out worldhopping expeditions. The Ones Above are not worldhoppers - they are a space travel society based on a planet we've seen before. Yes, it's possible that a worldhopping colony from one planet could launch other expeditions, maintain its original identity, and later use space travel to continue exploration, but that's a lot of hoops to jump through. Not technically impossible, but Occam's Razor would say that they are two separate groups. Only that the they're prior to Sixth of the Dusk, which doesn't really narrow it down that much. It was a specific comment on that story and how it was a bit of an oddity in the timeline of published stories so far, not a general indication of when Khriss wrote the essays.
-
The Ones Above are from a world we've seen before. So, that would mean Silverlight would be a city on a world we've already seen: Sel, Nalthis, Roshar, Scadrial, or maybe Threnody if you stretch. (This WoB was before White Sand.) So, I think they're two separate groups - Silverlight tried to explore in the past, Ones Above managed it in the future.

[Arcanum Unbounded Spoilers] The world inhabited solely by...
Pagerunner replied to Landis963's topic in Cosmere Discussion
We've been discussing the Drominad info over in this thread. But, yeah, I came to the same conclusion about Braize, but there are more planets with non-sentient life in the Rosharan system. So, it possibly could be referring to one of those, a planet inhabited by non-sentient spren. But we'll know for sure when the book comes out. The piece of cosmere-wide info I found more relevant was how minor Shardworlds are inaccessible to worldhopping, with First of the Sun being the exception, not the norm. I was wondering why anyone would even need to develop space travel, if they could worldhop - but, apparently worldhopping is limited to several worlds, so to reach the entire Cosmere they'd need to go there the 'old-fashioned way.' (Space travel. The way we the readers typically envision travel between planets.) -
Yeah, we already have a thread on the Drominad system over here. A lot of cool stuff today!

Sorry for the double-post, but major Drominad update! There are three inhabited worlds Khriss doesn't know why there's a shardpool, but thinks it has something to do with the system's history Silverlight has sent expeditions (which we don't know what Silverlight is, anyways, but apparently it has to do with worldhoppers) Shadesmar is a universal term for the Cognitive RealmT here's a planet in the Roshar system that is inhabited entirely by Splinters. Lots of cool stuff; it gets me really hyped for the other essays. Only thing is, my browser at work can't load the images in the article. I'm gonna have to wait all day 'til I get home and see the images. Unless @Demoux posts them the same way he did the ToC; I can see the image in the original post. Going from the names, there's a symbol and a star chart. Pretty please?

I only found out about this through the Tor newsletter, and I don't see it on the Tor frontpage (yet), so I figured I'd pass this along. They've revealed Ben's art for Emperor's Soul, featuring Shai Forging a wall. You can find it here: http://torforgeblog.com/2016/11/07/exclusive-art-reveal-from-brandon-sandersons-arcanum-unbounded/

Trell is Odium - The Sign of the "Red Eyes"
Pagerunner replied to TheBlueShifting's topic in Cosmere Discussion
That's quite a bit of speculation as to Odiuim's intentions. You think he's trying to take over Roshar - I think he's trying to kill Shards. Honor had him trapped there so he couldn't kill any others, dragging him into a land war, but then Honor died. If Odium manages to take out Cultivation and free himself from whatever is trapping him in the Roshar system (i.e. winning the war), then why wouldn't Harmony be his next target? Bavadin is thought to be in league with Odium because Hoid, in the First Letter, mentions holding a grudge against both of them. Many people infer that Autonomy and Odium are in league to destroy the other Shards because of their two Intents (although that itself involves a lot of speculation as to what exactly Autonomy means).- 70 replies

Calamity Release Party. Oh, and by the way, according to Amazon.es, the Shadows of Self translation was just released, so fans wouldn't have really had a chance to get it. Bands hasn't been translated yet. The novellas aren't available in spanish, either, so it could be any of them. I think they're our top candidates for our fourth Odium victim. Emperor's Soul: set on Sel. Two Shards on Sel. Unless there's foreign magic, I think this is out. Sixth of the Dusk: no Shard. We've seen the Ones Above before, otherwise I'd think their tech might be the result of a splintered Shard's magic. Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell: I've always thought the phrase "Justice died in Homeland" could refer to a splintered Shard, and recently concluded that the Forescouts may have been worldhoppers. I haven't been able to tie this to Odium, however, for timeline reasons. This makes me reconsider it... maybe the Forescouts experienced time dilation as they worldhopped? (I would like this one to be true, but I'll admit it's mostly confirmation bias.) Secret History: I think the Shardic influence is all accounted for in there. But you never know; there was a lot in there, and the Ire appeared to have tech from at least one other world, so maybe we need to pay attention. If he is referring to Trell in Shadows/Bands, then how would we get info in AU? Well, it depends when Khriss is writing the essays. I personally hope they'll be set after the W&W books, to tie in her conversation with Wax as a part of research for said essays. But, as long as it's after 'Trell' has begun affecting Scadrial, then Khriss might see fit to mention something about it in her Scadrial essay. -

Is that confirmation that Odium has only killed 4 Shards? We've known that there was at least one more than Honor, Devotion, and Dominion, but not exactly one more. But the questions are paraphrased... @Axies, are you able to provide any clarification on that? Because there are half-ish of the Shards remaining whole. If Odium has only killed 4, then there's someone else out there that is killing Shards. Yikes. Maybe it's Autonomy, maybe it's a worldhopping organization, maybe it's something else entirely. -
When will the new Leatherbound come out??
Pagerunner replied to Radiant Returned's topic in General Brandon Discussion
They've been saying December, so they don't step on Arcanum Unbounded's toes. I think they've got a new gallery, but no additional editing - Elantris, as Brandon's first published book, missed out on some of the TLC that his later books got in that regard. It might not take the full six weeks this time around for the first batch; they might already have the books, and are just waiting to announce them. It is their goal to have them out by Christmas. -
Yep, Peter confirmed it on Facebook. (Or so I hear from here.)

Trell is Odium - The Sign of the "Red Eyes"
Pagerunner replied to TheBlueShifting's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Wait, do you view Odium's destruction of this hypothetical Shard as a separate incident entirely than the Evil's destruction of Homeland? Where do you see this first migration in the text? We get info on the destruction of and exodus from Homeland, but I don't recall anything about what came before.- 70 replies

Trell is Odium - The Sign of the "Red Eyes"
Pagerunner replied to TheBlueShifting's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Here's the text from the book: Yes, it's a representation, but there's something there, something so powerful that Harmony is literally fighting to keep it away from his world. The only concrete thing we've seen in the books is a crude representation, the Red Haze, and Marasi's deduction that there is another Shard named Trell behind Bleeder's attacks from last book. Sazed has an enemy; he might not know about the other Shards, yet, so it could be Odium or Autonomy. But his vision to Wax, he designed it purposely, and he included details like it being red and surrounding the planet. It's not a metaphor for how he's protecting them from the worst of life. Something wants to destroy Scadrial.- 70 replies

I'm gonna have to find my way to a signing, soon. When the movies start coming out, it's going to be impossibly crowded. In the meantime, though, do either of you want to ask for a definition Major Shardworlds, and confirm if Ashyn or Braize meet the criteria? (I'd want to clarify if there are 10 Major Shardworlds, or 10 Major Shard-Systems, some of which have multiple worlds.) I feel that this question fits well with the theme of the collection. Providing, of course, that the Major Shardworlds aren't already denoted in the star chart or elsewhere in the book. -
Trell is Odium - The Sign of the "Red Eyes"
Pagerunner replied to TheBlueShifting's topic in Cosmere Discussion
You might want to double-check who you're responding to. @PallonianFire has been consistent in suggesting that a Shard was splintered on another world. It looks like @JUQ was the one who thought Odium may have splintered a Shard on Threnody. (Unless this is carrying on a convo from outside this thread.) I've been calling this hypothetical world "Homeworld" (since the settlers' name for where they came from was Homeland). There are two phenomena that may not be directly connected: the destruction of Homeworld, and the presence of the Shades on Threnody. They could both be caused by Odium, although I think the Shades are more of a natural phenomenon, since there is no Shard Invested on Threnody. (I personally don't think Odium killed Homeworld's Shard, but only because I don't think that he is the red haze that Saze is fighting off.)- 70 replies
