    Max looked at her hands gripping his, and then looked to her, to her eyes. “I promise.” He smiled. “How hard can this Vesuvius guy be anyway? The fact he targeted children probably says more about his fighting skill than his motives.” He kissed her again. “But that goes for you too. Please try not to die,” he joked, but there was still a little bit of seriousness at the core of it. The Alleyverse was a dangerous place.

    Wilhelm looked to the tower and forced Arun up, then followed Lizanne. Since he didn’t need a crutch he could catch up to her fairly easily. “Is that limp permanent?” He asked.

    Max was about to reply as well but Althea kissed him and Max could do nothing but hold her and lean into it. Oh, how in this world of spikes and alleys, how he was so grateful for her, her presence in his life. He tightened his grip slightly and then loosened, slowly pulling out of the kiss, his arms still around her. They’d have to do this again, maybe when time wasn’t pressing them. “I love you too,” he said, adoring her, still holding her, and then called out to Devaan. “We’ll be right there!” He looked back to Althea and stepped back a little. “Has anyone told you you look Dzhamarian?” He asked.

    “And how do you know his name?” Alask pointed to Berk. “And I’m sorry to burst your bubble, but there’s no imbalance of Investiture here, or anywhere. Next thing you’ll be doing is assassinating Endowment because she gets to choose who gets to be Returned. “Because Investiture is random. No god picks and chooses. Radiants all break. Mistings and Ferrings are random. Sand masters too. Awakeners are given their breaths voluntary. Every form of Investiture balances itself out, by random choice or otherwise. Name one use of imbalanced Investiture, if a vague term like that can even have an example.l

    “That one does,” Alask, nodding to Berk. He actually had no idea whether he had Investiture or not, but most notable people did and Alask would take his chances. He looked to Lena, who looked ready, with a hand on some bottle. “And I’m pretty sure by working for the Mastermind, you’re a criminal. And with the recent law system being implemented, I’m pretty sure you belong in a cell.”

    Oh, I was going to do that anyway, Max joked and made his way to the kitchen as well. But I’m glad you read my mind.

    “I think so. Any leads we have could go stale if we delay.” Ok. Should I Riot focus? He asked, slowly cutting off the calm Riot on both of them.

    “Not really, I can be with anyone,” Rob said. “Or you all could be against me,” he joked. “I’m sure I could handle it.”

    “Well, that makes three of us. Ironically, the only people in this room who have Investiture are the ones you’re allied with.”

    “And how do you know my name?” Alask held his ground. “Well, I don’t have Investiture either, so so much for your ‘balance’. And why would you knowingly be the bad guys? If an imbalance is beneficial for everyone involved why tip it?”

    “I didn’t know you were her biggest fan now?” Alask said turning back to the woman. “Slayers of Investiture is fine and all, but some of us don’t have or need Investiture. Kind of redundant then, isn’t it?” “Your threats sound like something that Mastermind guy would say. Overconfident, much?”

    “I wouldn’t be too trigger-happy with the threats seeing to how we outnumber you five to one.”

    “Not much, clearly, as you’re attempt to blow us up failed pretty quickly. Were you still looking for that permanent badge or was that just a ruse?”

    “I... what?” The Haunt looked forward at her. It was confused. “Who’s possible history. Patterns? Without the ability to be bored?” It swirled in light confusion. “I don’t understand.” *** Alask saw her slip beneath him and unsheath two daggers. Well, at least they didn’t look silver. But still, blood was not something he was keen on having spilled. “Maybe we can just talk,” he manages to say as Shez roared within him, his body pushing itself into a wall.

    “She kindled flame.” Alask’s arms, against his will, moved and tried to grab the lady by the shoulders and push her into a wall with incredible strength. “Oh, I’m really sor-” but he shut up as Shez kept ranting in his ear about explosions and fire and how he was responsible.

    Alask paused. Then narrowed his eyes at the man. “How do you know my name?” He made sue to keep an eye on the woman regardless, he wouldn’t allow her an easy escape. @Lord Meeker

    “Yeah, the host just threw it straight out of the window.” He paused, then looked at the host. “Wait a second, there were people down there.” He shook his head and turned back to the woman. “So, uh, yeah, we need answers.”

    Alask widened his eyes at the bomb which had been thrown out the window. He quickly walked over the door, blocking the woman from exiting. “Okay, lady, who are you? And why are you here?”

    “Hi Luther,” Rob said, extending a hand. “If you really want to fight well you need to use your surges. Martial arts is good, I don’t know if anyone else here has training with that, but surges are good. What order are you?”

    “Hey!” Alask said, swiping the box back. “She gave that to me. If you want to see what’s inside just ask.” He opened it.

    “We should,” Max said, sitting up straighter and hardening his expression. This wasn’t Devaan. He sighed. Having a friend and an enemy in one body was going to be challenging. He felt Althea leaning against him so he stay put for now, stacking the plates and utensils upon each other to make it easy to carry to the sink. It seems no one other than him had had their cake.

    She blushed. Why did she blush? “Well, someone around these facilities is bound to know, I guess.” Alask looked around. “What did you need to deliver?”

    Wilhelm saw how she needed help to get up, and the skinny woman could not help for her own issues. Both of them, such easy prey... Wilhelm extended a hand to the girl. “This is for one time, and one time only.” He said. Helping was bad. Then the people you helped never grew strong, they just relied on you. The baby bear would accomplish nothing if it stood by its mother its whole life.
