  1. Bravo! I see hints (from the moments when Dalinar wakes up under the influence of Odium in some dream/vision) . . . that he recognizes Odium on a subconscious level and feels a very positive reaction to the experience! I do not discount the perspective of the Blackthorn. The passion of a G^d is likely well beyond the threshold of his followers. .. still, it puts Odium into a class of beings who understand such things. This is very germaine! So I agree, Odium should not get such bad press from the git-go.
  2. Nice work!

Our culture is so ... visually oppressed, for lack of a better term, the visuals we get are mostly about advertising!  Not that supporting our cash hungry infrastructure is not kinda basic, but really ... we need more visual input which releases our mind set and lets us breath a breath of fresh air into the visual interpretive brain cells!

When I found DA ... after a life time of book worship, it was awesome, and amazingly, my book trolling actually improved as a result!  We are "grown" in the world of words ... written words, very unlike the Orient where cognitive processes never leave the visual realm, except for speaking, which engages auditory brain cells!

I think it makes us a little dull, but, for an artist it provides an opportunity, and a niche where in your work is not drown in other common input. Seriously, we learn quickly to push the adverts, and the news casters down a notch or a few notches, and generally wait for media to massage our eye reception brain cells, and they over achive;  with violence and destruction, too often . . .

You, however, tied to books ... have a novel and unobstructed path to a whole set of unencumbered brain cells ... do well!  I know you will.

  3. Nice art! Glad you are here! Its good to branch out from FB. Happy Reading. Happy posting!
  4. [OB] ... Speaking of Pattern, I did not notice at which point he became separated from Shallan and she did not miss his presence! . . . AND THEN . . Pattern had to be rescued from the palace (which was being deconstructed) by Wit! Its a nice piece of writing, I just totally missed the reasoning behind it!
  5. This is intriguing. .. however, there are a number of us coming into the Sanderson Cosmere with the Stormlight Trilogy, and so much of what you mention is completely unknown! Fullborn = ?? .. Metals 16 in 3 ... and more? If you put it in book 4, which I am waiting on also, there will have to be a 17th board to catch us up, or some discretionary interlude where these principles, properties and etc are fleshed out a bit. Sounds awesome, however.
  6. Thank you!
  7. So is this possibly the reason that the Nightblood sword (sword nimi) draws power from anyone who draws it, and can actually kill the person holding it? Drawing Nightblood is by definition overtapping? it's worse than candy!
  8. [OB] So when Dalinar experiences the golden light and associated warmth as familiar somehow, though he cannot place it in his muzzy state, that tells the readers that Dalinar has known Odium before . . possibly. .. ? So much more to read ...
  9. Whoa . . . I just read the story from the web site: Warbreaker where it is implied that to bring sentience to steel requites a massive amount of breath, and I assumed this also may have been the reason Nightblood aka sword nimi, was sentient. Not so it seems! Nightblood is also hyper-invested? ... So is there a book where this is divulged? TIA ;-)
  10. @MasterJack .. there is a documented effect which impacts heavy drinkers, its called the Tenth (?) Bar Syndrome or something similar .... it actually refers to a biological process whereby a certain level of inebriation causes the brain to alter its functionality .... the person with this problem cannot remember where he went after his body makes this correction ... that is any bar after ten, and anything else .. like how they got home. I read this so very long ago, I have no clue where it was written, but it definitely stuck with me. So, your drinking character sounds like a VERY interesting item, and a potential entry point for surprises, sub plots, extra characters heretofore not revealed, and lots more! If you publish, you might want to have the documentation of this phenomina available! Good luck writing, (et all).
  11. I was not thinking that the Parshmen lined up and donated breath to corpses on another planet (I assume Warbridge did NOT take place on Roshar!)... I was thinking in bigger, more deific? terms .... That the life essence fot 40 thousand lifeless had to come form somewhere, and the army of bones in stone as well. Writers as people are constrained to our world of experiences and laws .. so when someone sets out such a consumate puzzle as Brandon has, the puzzle addicted tend to step back and make hypotheses!! I have to admit, I was really awed to read the story of the Emperor, wow!! Awesome!! Winkin, Blonkin and Nod one night sailed off in a Wooden Shoe .... And the ship of Odyssus spoke! And much, much more!!!
  12. WARBREAKER . . . . I know this is not on Roshar, but it seems to me that some of these characters have the Hero Genes on steroids, and some can planet hop. It crossed my mind that the FOURTY THOUSAND strong Deathless army might have come from the Parshman (suddenly) falling into dullform? In the Trilogy wriien on Roshar, it says it was done to escape their Gods. . . and that's all. OR ... Might these have been liberated when the Parshmen gave up dullform and accepted warform in the opposite moving storm ??? This is because of that law about conservation ... Nothing goes poof, really, it just changes form (state .. whatever). One breath each . . . To make the lifeless soldiers, leaving a dun doner behind. And the Returned who healed the God King was Lightsong . . . The next big, and bigger question is . . did the Parshmen have to donate to build the D’Denir (?sp)... as well? The Parshmen being so intrinsicly tied to The Singers, and having the internal consonance of emotion-associated music, in all their interpersonal communications. Mayhap there is somewhere to find information on The Singers? Off to read Aether of Night . . . Thank you for supplying the texts! ;-) Oh, one more . . Giving someone a lot of Breath at death .. might cause the Retutned?
  13. Warbreaker was a nice read! Thank you for the heads-up. A thousand Breaths to bring sentience (heightened sentience) to a sword, which has the maturity of a child, and gives off AND creates BLACK SMOKE when used! I think the researchers need to find a material for the hilt! From a cross media viewpoint, it is not unlike the hungry, hungry Smoke from LOST . . . (Sorry, no hippos). In the episodes of LOST when the man with the briefcase of knives comes back to the Island, in a coffin, and is resurrected, . . . There is a question "What rests in the shadow of the alter which will, save us all." . . . Curiouser and curiouser . . . . . and a 'silver' sheath . . For Nightblood! . . . Mmmmm ... as Pattern would say.
  14. READING . . . There is much reading to attend . . . Hoping the factoid page for newbies is ready soon.
  15. Whoa, thanks for that!
  16. Does chromium relate to the metal or to time or to both? Electrum is a very special item, it creates room temperature high spin element which can enable resonance with the Materia Prima (my version of a Cognitive Realm in the Universe). We occupy the common Universe, Magic occurs in the overlapping subdomains attached to alternative Universes . . Have you ever tried Ormus materials? these are called The Highward Firestone, or Shem an na of the Ancient World and the White Powdered Gold of the more recent past. They do go to the eyes & mind if taken sublingual. Personally I love Ormus! I will be interested to see how yor plot proceeds.
  17. Writing on Deviant Art . . . It can be pretty inspirational. So many short stories, so much fan fiction, it is a good place to visit, and a good place to post. Of course you must prime the pump, visit other posters and engage in commentary . . . But it is a very nice site for the creative minded.
  18. I have 3 on Kindle, but they are one viewpoint//single flow naratives ... very beginner-esque. I publish under Alabaster Danse, as a nom de plume --- permits me to avoid putting my SSN into the Kindle database. My first serious foray into writing was like an invitation to empty my mind onto the page, but there were other surprises, too. I do not have Photoshop to do my covers, which is problamatic, and some hottentot red dress hit my muse up in 2016, and it has not come back --- like a missing spren, I worry over it, and await the return of the creative drive. . . . Some people wield too much personal power! She actually stalked me for months! ... consumate lier, too. It was certainly a hard lesson for me. She seemed so nice, but in truth I think she was a Face Dancer from Tleilaxu. (Herbert's DUNE) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Face_Dancer Is there a forum where various books get compared for ideology? The Blender forum, perhaps? Or another site alltogether? What kind of class does Brandon teach?
  19. [OB] .... Is Odium really more dangerous than sword nimi? The blade of the Assasin in White in Oathbringer ... which will claim the life of it's bearer is used for an extended time. I have not read anything with Shard Odium being used, yet. Mistborn is next, then I must rejoin the 9-5.
  20. Sláinte! Guinness or popcorn or chicken wings? Name your poison. Its a good soul who offers the comforts of a pub in a forum . . . Though I have no clue at all how that works! May a shard be with you.
  21. Wow, that is right on the money! Unfortunately it is also an enormous secret held very tight, so the full picture cannot be seen. It is a cry for help riding the blood of low iron ... because it was the only genius way to get the message out! imvho, of course . . but I did not read this ... where is it? The originating realm is _______________ tight!
  22. Pattern is one of my favorite characters at this point ... I don't see anything scary except Shallan's first unexpected//unexplained visions of Pattern and obviously some other Crytic Spren there in the Library of all Libraries! It would spook anyone ... but so would a very novel animal appearing in your garden!
  23. I certainly can second that, I find life every bit as daunting to comprehend as the Cosmere. Thanks for your help. I would ask one more time, however, if it would be more "seemly" to not drag the mundane mortal world in with cross references . . . Somehow this seems potentially annoying for other board members ... .... to that end, is there a link explaining how to put hidden information headers on the end of a post? . . That way if my synthetic-think is burning holes in my concentration I could limit the impact for other posters. i basically live to study! At this point I have not found a way to turn that around, however. As I am drawing your attention once again (no, did not feel ignored at all) . . I would also ask .... could someone tell Brandon about the Kindle Count Down Deals? He does not need them, but there are many, many readers sampling the heady savings which this offers, and having been one of them (often diappointed with 99cent fare) .. I am thinking there is much to be gained here. Also, Amazon shares profit with authors who are doing well, especially in many countries!
