Long Game 79/Anonymous Game 10: The Rhythm of Freedom
Mauve Crocodile replied to Steeldancer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Rieta walked, step by step. Step step step step step. Thinking was so very hard. Dullform made thinking so hard. Harder than she had thought. She hummed to Amusement softly. Thinking, harder than I thought. The rhythm soon trailed off. Hard to keep thinking things. Hard to hear the rhythms. Dullform made everything more difficult. Someone else started humming, then. She was humming to... Peace. Rieta joined right in, satisfied. Peace was a good song. Peace was also a reminder. It helped them to remember. To remember what they wanted. Why they'd chosen to leave. ————— Hurrah for five word sentences! They are perfect for this.- 819 replies

I voted on Sage because I don't want to die C1. This is my first AG, and I'd rather get to actually play it, thank you very much. When I voted I was the only one with more than one vote, and I was about to go to bed, and you had just called on everyone to condense the votes. Natural conclusion? People would probably pile on me. I wanted there to be an alternative since I wouldn't be there to defend myself. The first vote on me was @Sapphire Elephant saying they didn't like my poke vote post. Which. Like. I get it, the post didn't make the most sense in context, but like I've said that was because I wrote it after skimming the thread. I've explained what I meant by that post, and Sapphire hasn't responded. The second vote on me was from @Opal Lion. In their original post about it they said the following: "Anyways- I've seen one too many people hide sinister plans behind smiles, Mauve. Just like back when-". This is literally not a reason. When pressed, their response was that the vote was based partially on past grudges and partially on my vibe. Which is still not a reason. The third vote on me is from you, @Violet Axolotl. You voted on me because I self-presed after the second (purely nonsensical) vote. The fourth vote is from @Onyx Flamingo. Your post said: "and now, i vote we exe mauvy crocy. mostly because i don't think our pal the kangaroo has done much to anyone yet, and i just don't like how that counterlynch came out of nowhere." Two objections to this: I haven't done anything to anyone either, and the counterexe didn't come out of nowhere, it came from me because I don't want to die. The fifth vote on me is from @Amber Vulture. You say that "Crocodile's gave me the worst gut read (though he was the leading candidate at the time, so I can also see it being a self-preservation vote, but... eh, it's Day 1, and I don't have any better ideas, unfortunately.)" I've already addressed this like five times in this post, but I'll say it again: I voted on Kangaroo in self-pres, because this is my first AG and my first anonymous game and I want a chance to actually play it. Kangaroo seemed to be the best choice of counter-exe, because as far as I could tell, theirs was the only vote that actually had some amount of reasoning to it, rather than being a poke or based on a read. (Edit: also I'm a she lol) Would you all please reconsider your votes? I would have responded earlier to each of you and explained myself but I was asleep so it would have been kinda hard for me to do that. Edit: Also I am in fact on Braize. Why would I lie about that? Edit edit: Besides that, it should be obvious to you guys that I'm not elim. I'm currently leading in the vote, and only two people have voted on my closest competitor apart from myself. There are likely at least five elims in this game, possibly six, so if I were an elim wouldn't my teammates have been working to bail me out? And really, if I were elim, I'd have just asked my teammates to start a counter-exe in the first place, rather than doing it myself at the risk of drawing more votes onto me (which is exactly what happened). I'm just a normal villager with an item and a role, neither of which involve vote-manip that I could use to save myself! Basically: I'm working alone. If you guys don't take your votes off, I will die, and it will be a mis-exe. In fact, why aren't you looking with suspicion at each other, the people who've randomly hopped onto my train with little to no reason. All I've done is attempt to self-pres, whereas they're actively condemning me to death.

I wholeheartedly agree with this bit... Unfortunately, though, the person with the most votes is me, so there's not much I can do to condense. Except... come to think of it, it does seem a bit odd to me that Sage Kangaroo would suggest that the neutral Shards claim. Their identities are not information that we want in the elims hands (who are we kidding, we don't want any info in elim hands ), and from what I've seen, games are generally set up so that claiming is never beneficial during the first few cycles. Later on and under specific conditions, claiming can be a good strategy, depending on the situation, but it's not a thing to recommend D1. Is this really just a long-winded way for me to attempt to not die? Well duh, that should be obvious. But in my totally unbiased opinion, the reasoning for exeing Sage is infinitely stronger than the reasoning for exeing me, since the latter is practically nonexistent (I believe the first vote was a poke edit: not quite a poke but it was lending weight to a rather small objection to something I said, and the second was apparently due to "my vibe" and "past grudges", in an anonymous game no less). Now, I'm getting off for the night 'cause sleep exists, as Violet pointed out. Please try not to kill me too much, okay? Oh, and I might as well mention that I'm on Braize, so my vote counts twice. Maybe Siena wasn't so unlucky to end up there after all...

I don't really understand what you mean by that... though I guess that's probably the point. (have you used up your free Shadesmar PM?)

I'm... afraid you must be confused? I've never met you before in my life.

Er... well I guess? I mean, you do you I suppose but I think past D1 it's probably not a great idea to tell people who give reasons for their votes that they're being "hasty", since then it makes everyone a little less likely to vote. And from what I've seen in recent games, we need more people to vote, not less.

Violet said something about hasty votes being a problem. Having skimmed the posts that started the discussion, I figured as I was writing my post that Violet was referring at least in part to the poke votes that had appeared earlier on, since the vote that Violet was responding to was not what I would call hasty. And no, of course votes with reason aren't immune to scrutiny, but attacking someone for voting with a reason because they were "hasty" just kind of doesn't make sense?

Sorry if I didn't make it clear, but that was kind of my point. Gorilla provided an actual reason for their vote, which is rare indeed during the first cycle. Anyway, I say "poke-vote discussion" because you were arguing against hasty voting (aka poke-voting? idk the inside of my head is weird sometimes). But in my own humble and ill-informed opinion, all voting is somewhat hasty during C1, so arguing against it is futile unless you're arguing for us to just not exe anyone this Day. Aaaannnddd here I am getting sucked into one of the vote discussions I was just complaining about.

Are we seriously having a discussion on the efficacy of poke-votes again? Seems like every time I play a game I get to read through post after post debating the merits of voting someone off C1, or the merits of voting with little to no evidence, or what have you. Personally, I think it's just a playstyle thing. (I would include something about how my RP character is severely unfortunate to have ended up on Braize--which incidentally I know next to nothing about, since I don't recall what was said about it in SA off the top of my head, so apologies for any inaccuracies that appeared in my previous post--but I feel like I've said enough already.)

@Prudence I'll request PMs with Sapphire, Opal, and Charcoal. And then I'll go read the rules, finally.

Siena Ashao, the unluckiest person alive, was on Braize. How had this happened?!?! "It's perfectly safe", they'd said. "You'll have so much fun, travelling the worlds," they'd said. "The vibrant cultures, the food, the different magic... worldhopping is the most wonderful experience!" they'd said. Why had she listened to them? She had figured that with her luck, she'd end up in some backwater ash-logged town on Scadrial, but this was just ridiculous. Trembling slightly, she glanced out from behind the rock formation where she'd found some concealment (although even the stones here were blisteringly hot, and she had to be careful not to burn herself on them). Those things were still there, looking for her. I have got to get out of here, she thought. Though, given how things generally went for her, she'd probably end up some place even worse. She tensed up as she heard them getting closer. A few more seconds and they'd find her. She shoved her carving tools hurriedly into her bag and counted down in her head. 3... 2... 1. She took off running just as the hideous creature rounded the formation and caught sight of her. Hello everyone! I'm here, though I haven't read the rules in a week and didn't really understand them when I read them the first time. I should have time to remedy my cumbersome ignorance this evening, but in the meantime I figured I'd pop on and say I'm here

Mid-Range Game 41 / Anonymous Game 8: Lord of Chaos
Mauve Crocodile replied to Fifth Scholar's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Sorry I haven't been on in a while. Emerald Falcon. I am also a Forsaken, and my interpretation of our win-con is that Lews must die rather than have us kill him. Having looked at the Wheel of Time wiki, I know now that Forsaken serve a "Dark One" or something. Is there a Dark One? If there is a Dark One, do not reveal yourself for fear of Lews slaughtering you.- 235 replies

Mid-Range Game 41 / Anonymous Game 8: Lord of Chaos
Mauve Crocodile replied to Fifth Scholar's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I am of the opinion that we lynch, if only to discover what it does. The mystical magical RNG has chosen... Emerald Falcon! @Emerald Falcon, you have been chosen by the Gods of Luck and Chance. Your defence? So Balefire. Very dangerous, though I'm certain it's good enough that the gains outweigh the risks. If we all die because of it, I trust the write-up will be entertaining, at worst. I also wish to hypothesize about why the almighty Game Masters wished for 14 and only 14 players. Are there unique roles? Are there individual win-cons? Is 14 an important number in Wheel of Time and I'm just ignorant as I haven't read it?- 235 replies

I'd just like to say to Fifth/Elbereth that the writeups have been really awesome this game, and have made it a lot more fun to play in. Thanks!

Okay, I don't think Falcon is an elim. Two elims made note of Zebra before his death: (italics added by me) I'd guess that Iguana and Falcon are both village based on this list and the fact that Octopus was the one that made it. Seems like a bad idea as an elim to make a list that is 50% elim. Could be wrong about this though. 2. Amethyst Scorpion: Jesh, Lost Axehound6. Emerald Falcon: Sein, Inquisitive7. Indigo Weasel: Adhom Inem, Ardent9. Magenta Albatross: Jonan Wikim, Lost Axehound (Gren)11. Mint Heron: Sam, Once a Darkeyes12. Onyx Flamingo: Kir, Kleptomaniac Scout17. Saffron Iguana: Merinira, Scout18. Sage Kangaroo: Gilglin, Ardent (Devotary of the Mind)19. Salmon Meerkat: Cadamum, Ghostblood Recruit21. Sunburst Toucan: Tafud, Slightly Crazy24. Violet Axolotl: Adi, Anxious Above is the list of remaining players (minus myself). Italics are inactive (little point in lynching), bold are people I don't want to vote for this cycle. Heron placed a vote this cycle but hasn't done any followup. Amethyst is willing to lynch either Falcon or Meerkat, which could be an indication of being elim. Weasel hasn't voted, and neither has Axolotl. I think I'd be happy lynching either Scorpion or Heron.

Oof. Today is going to be rather busy for me, but I hope to be able to do some analysis tomorrow.
-
What is the basis for this theory? D1 voting, in my experience at least, is far more influenced by play style than by alignment.
-
Since we are well into the cycle, I thought I’d post a vote tally: Onyx Flamingo (1): Mauve Crocodile
-
I can’t disprove it, and since I read you as a villager, I’d probably believe it. The Point isn’t to prove that I did anything. It’s that there are several things (in my opinion) that cumulatively suggest I’m telling the truth (which is sort of how SE works in the first place, by accretion of evidence). Presumably there are 2 reasons someone would claim to have dustified Rhino: either they are a villager who actually did it, or they are an elim who wants to cast suspicion on me. Thus, by asking all players who attacked Rhino to reveal themselves, we learn something. If nobody else responds, that essentially verifies my claims. If there are other people who sent in a kill, then either I’m lying, someone is setting me up, or we both just killed Rhino. I’m pretty sure the only plausible scenario you have mentioned is the one where I’m an elim that got confirmation in a PM that someone else was going to kill Rhino. Say (sticking with the earlier assumption) you told 3 (lots of flexibility with this number) other players you were going to Dustbring Rhino. One of those is an elim, and let’s me know, so I can justify my suggestion last cycle. In response to my claim of killing Rhino, you give the thread the names of the 3 players you told about your action. Lynch me, and if I flip elim, follow with those 3 players and the game ends, village win. Seems like a rather poor plan for the elim team. In summary, I think if you follow any of the scenarios you have mentioned to their logical conclusions, they don’t make sense for a rational elim team. Thus, the most plausible scenario is that I’m village.
-
You say those things are uncheckable, but it wouldn’t be that hard to get an idea about their plausibility. Rather than ask everyone in thread what action they took last night, just ask if anyone else sent in a kill on Rhino. My response from the GMs indicated that my action in particular was responsible for the kill, so I think it is quite possible there were no other dustbringers last cycle. Why would an elim submit a kill on their own teammate to frame someone when they could just as easily kill a villager? Discrediting me like that would cause any suspicion I gathered to transfer to said elim following my death. Similarly, you could just ask who all has PMs with me.
-
I lean village on them because as an elim, I would definitely have voted on Rhino. I just have to say, it makes no sense for an elim to use their dustbringer kill one their own team. And I've been involved in a whopping 1 PM this game (or 2 if you count the GM PM).
-
@Saffron Iguana Does the fact that I was the Dustbringer that slew Rhino help at all? I mentioned last cycle that my receiving that role was what prompted my suggestion. I have a village read on Falcon, based on their strong reaction to my post last cycle. From the Rhino lynch, this post by Flamingo reads a little weirdly: I'm not sure if I read elim from this, but it seems unnecessary padding for a vote on a scanned elim. I don't really have any better reads at this point, so I'll vote Flamingo. Also, the following 4 players didn't vote, which gives me a slight village lean on all of them: 2. Amethyst Scorpion: Jesh, Lost Axehound13. Opal Lion: Tnaidar, Scout18. Sage Kangaroo: Gilglin, Ardent (Devotary of the Mind)21. Sunburst Toucan: Tafud, Slightly Crazy I'd like to hear more from Lion, in regards to the wasted lynch 2 cycles back.
-
My claim is that during last cycle, I didn't know what Rhino's role was. Thus, my suggestion to kill him at Night was not a subtle attempt to keep him alive for another cycle. However, I made a snarky comment saying that a way to know Rhino's role that didn't involve being an elim would be to have scanned him as a Skybreaker (except this is false, and is causing lots of confusion).
-
Oh yeah. You'd think after playing with this ruleset as many times as I have, something would stick. The name change from the Mistborn roles is what's throwing me off.
-
Actually, I could have known this if I scanned him last cycle (but that is beside the point). Falcon is accusing me of being an elim, on the basis of my suggestion to the thread last cycle. The argument goes: Assumption 1: Killing Rhino in the Night fails (or probably fails) if Rhino is an Elsecaller. Assumption 2: It is Very Bad if Rhino doesn't die this cycle. Assumption 3: The elims would sacrifice a 4th member of their team to have a chance to delay Rhino's death. Fact 1: Croc suggests killing Rhino during the Night. Fact 2: Rhino is an Elsecaller. Subconclusion: Croc is trying to delay the death of Rhino. Conclusion: Croc is suspicious/an elim. Now, I may have summarized those assumptions incorrectly, but as I see it, they are not worth building an argument from. The risk/reward ratio for the elims here is far too high for them to bother with a ploy here.
