  1. I am really fond of what I call the hilarious teams. first place, Llarimar and lightsong followed cloesly by Breeze and Ham. A step lower in hilarity yet great in their own way, Kaladin and Syl.
  2. To me it was the betrayal of Denth and Tonk Fah. Especially the thing about Tonk Fah torturing his pets. I always assumed he was a fluff-ball who had to become hard in order to survive, but then this. It was like dropping from totally likeable to complete jackass in a matter of pages, it completely rewrote any conversation and character building, shifting everything from a fuzzy pink to a dark and damp black. I was completely knocked out and it was the first time I actually said "WHAT A B***H!" out loud instead of thinking it.
  3. Weeeee, welcome to the frey!
  4. My best friend and I had this agreement once, every once in a while one of us could "force" the other to read a book the other liked himself. So one day he comes to me with a whole stack of books, Elantris, Warbreaker and the mistborn trilogy. I argued with him that it's quite the stretch for our agreement to give me a stack of 5 books instead of one single book. Then he says, with a straight face mind you, "I'm merely being considerate, once you read one of them you will want to read the others." Intrigued by that statement I started with Elantris and as it turned out he was right. And I actually was a Sanderson fan before I read WoT, somehow I never got around to reading it, only started when I knew that quite a bit of Sandersons time would be going into those and thought well, better get started on those if you ever want to read sandersons WoT books. Needless to say, I devoured the RJ books just as greedyly.
  5. Actually I believe that she does not fall into one category with Szeth at all: She has some kind of Spren following her around and we have that tidbit form Nohadon about not all kinds of spren being as discerning as honorspren, so one does not have to be all honorable to establish a nahel bond, which I believe is the only thing necessary for surgebinding.
  6. Permanently fill steel and zync, live in slow-motion Fill Atium all your live, more in the beginning, going less and less with every year. Around forty instead start tapping it, more every year: You are now Benjamin Button Fill away your sense of identity then compound determination, you are determined to be nobody
  7. For me it was when Hoid/Wit said "Adonalsium" to Dalinar. The thing is, english is not my native english, so I had to google Odium on my first time through WoK. On my second run, I saw Adonalsium and assume I had just skimmed over it in my first read and thought: Hmm, that sounds latin. So I looked it up online and came across this exact forum and the cosmere 101 thread. I tell you, I was so flashed.
  8. I'm actually not quite sure what exactly the difference is between mental-speed and physical, at least in regard to how it effects the speed with which you percieve your surroundings; When you tap steel, could you actually run past your target by accident, because you didn't realise you already reached it? Or is everything in slowmotion, but you can move normally? Or do you need both zync and steel for slow-motion? Maybe when you tap tync you percieve everything in slowmotion, your own body included? I'm sorry I'm starting to babble, but the more I think about it, the more I think you are right. Zync compounding sure is useful when you combine it with a gun and you have all the time in the world to aim perfectly. It's just that your body stays sluggish.
  9. I would like to see the fight od a steel compounder, infinite speed sounds very strong to me. And those Zync compounders can solve any puzzle very quickly, although it is relatively useless in a fight. I really wonder what storing determination would be good for, just as saving your own identity. One thing that seems useful to me, if applyable in that fashion, would be someone who can tap zync and burn tin: Sense, see and hear everything around you, tapping mental speed to be able to comprehend all that information, perhaps it would be a little like atium burning.
  10. I think his question referred to how the Parshmen that the rest of the world knows breed, since apparently only Parshendi in mating-form can have children. Plus, I have wondered the same thing, since Parshmen do not really seem capable of passion, besides the thing with their corpses maybe.
  11. I think Shallan would fit the 4. Vev. the best, because of the body focus: She closes her eyes to capture a picture in her mind. And now that I think about it, she captures not only "a picture" but the "true" picture, enabling her to draw truthspren. Besides she can see and store something, draw it, and only then noticing details she must have seen (for she could draw them) but not noticed, as seen when she looks at the pictures she draws of Jasnah to find out she can soulcast without a fabrial. The more I read about Shallan the more I believe that her memory must be some form of magic, though not fully evolved.
  12. I'm sorry, that this is kind of off topic, but I have heard references to the reason why the parshendi killed Gavilar and a reading of Stormlight 2 by Brandson Sanderson, but I cannot find that reading anywhere, neither transcript video or audio recording. Could someone please provide a link? It would be really appreciated. Edit: Accidentally a word.
  13. Concerning that, there are at least one other type of spren that have some kind intelligence, the unnamed spren that shallan can draw and Elhokar can see. Well now that I think about it, maybe they don't have the same king of human feel to them that Syl shows, but they seem to be sentient (just my impression).
  14. I found the book to be really satisfying. It explained so many things, brought all the lines that seemed seperate together, all the explanations for the prophecies were great. There is just one thing that really bothered me, although it is a very small thing: The Tuatha'an. I really wanted to know about the song they are looking for and when Matt heard Rand sing in the garden I thought that this must be the song they mean. Sadly though, There was no conclusion to their search. And I was really disappointed when that Tuatha'an womans POV came and went without mention of the song. At least the Ogier seem to have discovered the same song or one very much like it, so perhaps that will help the traveling people find rest and stop searching. Oh, and of course all of this may be baseless musing on my part and the song that Rand and the Ogier sing is completely unrelated to the one the Tinkers wish to find.
  15. So, I have been rereading The Way of Kings recently and when I came to the end Syl said that Dalinar would be better off without his shardblade. At that point I began to wonder: Would shardblades perhaps be able to "kill" spren? In the book it was said several times, that shardblades cut the souls of living beings, instead of their bodies. Since Spren do not have solid forms but seem to have a soul (at least Syl does) maybe the shardblades are able to hurt them. And to go even farther, maybe the shardblades were never meant to be able to cut the souls of beings but that Odium corrupted them in some manner. What do you guys think? PS: I hope this hasn't been answered by Mr. Sanderson yet.
  16. Hey guys, I live in Germany and wanted this book very badly. However, it seemed to be impossible to get a physical copy within the next two or three weeks, since the E-Book release is delayed. I have found a way, though i wasn't able to find a book, it is fairly easy to purchase the audiobook via audible or possibly other audiobook stores. And a very nice side-effect: for me it only cost 5€ a month, with a runtime of at least 3 months, meaning I actually got the A Memory Of Light as well as 2 other books for a whole of 15€ (instead of 20€+). So, to anyone such as myself who cannot wait, check out audible.com. I hope I could help some of you get the book we all want to know the ending of
  17. I always thought that was the shadow of Preservation, the same Vin was seeing.
  18. Hey guys, I'm new here and I am a little confused. I have read the mistborn books twice now, but i have not picked on when Kelsier held Preservations power. when was that? could someone point me to a stage in the books? Thanks
  19. My best friend said that he had read a book from some guy called Sanderson that was really good. He said I would love it, so I started reading Elantris. I got hooked instantly, in a matter of a month I had read Elantris, the Mistborn trilogy and The Way of Kings and I just couldn't get enough. Then I heard, that there was this gigantic epic called The Wheel of Time, that Sanderson would be completing, so i thought "Phew, a little more to read!". Little did I know, there were 13 (!) books, not counting the prequel, so i got to reading. And I must say, although The Wheel of Time is an amazing book in its own right and R. Jordan is to be commended for a work of such proportions, I really loved the way Sanderson handled Gathering Storm and Towers of Midnight. I have been a fan ever since, although I have yet to read the Alcatraz books.
  20. This is one of my most favorite games of all time! It's terribly underrated and unknown though, nice to see other people playing it. I'm playing Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 right now. I have to say, the game is quite slow on the start, it was like 2 hourse of continuous dialogue before the first real battle came along. I do like the story and the whole social life during the day - battling at midnight idea though. I hope the story doesn't drop!
  21. I would guess once Kaladin has full access to all the powers of a Windrunner it would certainly be possible. Besides it is definitely an awesome ablity to have and, as you have said, he already seems to have that ability to a certain extend. Guess we will have to wait and see where Mr. Sanderson is leading with this.
